2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R Vs. 2021 Ram 1500 TRX
Ford and Ram’s rivalry is a tale as old as time. American automaker Ford has dominated the full-size truck vehicle class with legendary nameplates like the Ford F-150. Ram hasn’t shown deference to Ford, proving that its Ram 1500 is here to compete. So what happens when one of each company’s fastest trucks are compared side by side? Which is the better truck, the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R or the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX.
Ford F-150 Raptor: The raptor’s rise
The Ford F-150 Raptor’s first iteration surfaced way back in 2010. Its first generation was known as the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. The F-150 SVT Raptor was made for off-roading and made a big splash back when it first debuted. It was produced from 2010 to 2014, and then it was considered extinct until it re-emerged in 2017.
After three years, the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor was back and more vicious than ever. Ford simplified the name by removing the Special Vehicles Team classification and updated it with some ferocious specs. The 2014 model made 411 horsepower. When it returned in 2017, the Raptor had 450 horsepower and was lighter by a few hundred pounds. Ford knew the Raptor had to be more agile and quicker this time around.
Ram strikes back at Ford with the Ram 1500 TRX
The timing of the Ram 1500 TRX’s announcement seemed like a direct response to the Ford F-150 Raptor. Though the TRX’s name sounds like a shot at the Raptor, TRX models have actually been around a lot longer than Raptors. The first TRX model, the Dodge Dakota TRX, debuted in 2006. The name could be easily mistaken for a certain creature from the cretaceous period, but the TRX isn’t named to one-up Ford’s truck. Make no mistake though, its power and speed have a clear rival in the F-150 Raptor.
The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX’s 6.2-liter V8 engine makes a whopping 702 horsepower. What’s even more interesting about the TRX is it is actually Hellcat-powered. It has a towing capacity of 8,100 pounds. The TRX also has great off-roading capabilities. So how can Ford possibly compete with a Hellcat-powered high-performance truck? Enter the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R.
2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R Vs 2021 Ram 1500 TRX
The battle for the best truck is underway, and luckily for consumers, the competition is stiff. Ram shocked the truck world with its Hellcat-powered TRX, but Ford isn’t one to go down without a fight. Many have deemed the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX the Ford F-150 Raptor killer, so Ford decided to upgrade its Raptor. The amazing off-roading truck that first clawed its way to the top of truck rankings in 2010 is about to get its biggest power boost ever.
According to Motor Trend, the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R has a supercharged engine of its own to compete with the Ram 1500 TRX’s mighty Hellcat engine. The new Raptor R will use a V8 engine that makes a monstrous 760 horsepower. It uses the same engine as the Mustang Shelby GT500.
The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX may have had the upper hand on the Ford F-150 Raptor, but the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R is a different animal altogether. The new Raptor R is also lighter than the Ram 1500 TRX. The Raptor R may have some issues when reaching higher speed because its engine was originally meant for the Mustang Shelby GT500, but it is estimated to compete with the Ram 1500 TRX if not best it. The new Raptor R will arrive in early 2022, so the Ram 1500 TRX best not get too comfortable.
