The GMC Hummer Will Not Have Removable Doors Like the Jeep Wrangler
Off-road vehicles are stylish and fun to drive. And two of the most popular among the bunch are the GMC Hummer and Jeep Wrangler. That naturally invites comparisons. So it’s reasonable to wonder whether the new Hummer will have removable doors like the Wrangler. Well, it won’t. That might disappoint some fans, but it doesn’t mean the 2022 GMC Hummer won’t offer plenty for adventurers to enjoy.
The Hummer has traveled a long and winding path
AM General introduced the Hummer. It was designed as a civilian version of the M998 Humvee, the “High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle.” Going over rough terrain is what this off-roading monster was made for.
In 1999, General Motors purchased the rights from AM General and, in 2002, began producing and selling the H2 Hummer, History reports. After several years, GM discontinued the gas-guzzler in 2010. And now, General Motors is bringing back a new and improved version, the GMC Hummer EV. This one is built on the BT1 electric truck platform.
In the fall of 2022, the Hummer will reveal a makeover that promises to appeal to all lovers of luxury. But one thing this SUV will be missing is the removable doors that its biggest competitor boasts, The Drive reports
Why won’t the 2022 GMC Hummer EV have removable doors?
The lead Hummer EV Exterior designer, John Mack, told Muscle Cars &T rucks that they considered removable doors. However, he said:
“If you do removable doors or anything like that, it kind of would take away from the [premium] execution.”
In short, the new Hummer will be a luxurious and “glamorous” ride that consumers want, with an electric motor and removable roof panels. The interior will be comfortable and spacious, as one would expect from a Hummer.
And despite the absence of removable doors, this new SUV seems to lack nothing else. There will be approximately 200 accessories available for the upcoming Hummer EV, which will ensure this is an off-road vehicle that works the way you want it to work. It will have the bulk you want, the power to back it up, and the ability to go anywhere you want your adventures to take you.
Who cares about removable doors when you have all these cool features?
One of the most impressive things about this EV is its 350-kW fast-charging capability, thanks to an 800-volt electrical architecture. It gives the new GMC Hummer the ability to go about 100 miles after only a 10-minute charge.
Many prospective buyers will also enjoy the light bar and the GoPro camera mount. And for a whole new perspective, you can take advantage of underside cameras that will show you the terrain as you pass over it.
You’ll also find the new e4WD system underneath. This allows you to lock the front differential electronically. And you can opt for a three-motor model to gain access to a rear virtual locker. This model also has a unique “crab walk” mode for crawling out of tight spaces.
In addition, look out for the off-road mapping application for the 2022 GMC Hummer. This updated version of the myGMC app will work alongside the infotainment system, helping you navigate your way out of the deepest trails. Plus, the app can also show you the location of charging stations to ensure you never run out of power.
