The Ford F-Series has dominated the pickup truck market for more than four decades. It is an industry leader for pushing the boundaries for pickup trucks and offering new features. With this in mind, it carries a great deal of weight when the F-Series goes eclectic. The legendary truck now makes a jump toward the future with the all-electric F-150 Lightning.

One of the many great things about the F-150 Lightning is that future models will have over-the-air updates. Owners will love these updates. Even after the initial purchase, the over-the-air updates will enable the F-150 Lightning to continuously improve as new features and functions become available.

The most impactful over-the-air update for the Ford F-150 is an increase in the range of trucks. The range is a critical component for electric vehicles. This is because you’ll want to ensure that you have enough battery power to make it back home or to a charging station.

The F-150 Lightning currently has an estimated standard range of 230 miles. With the range-extender battery, the range is an estimated 300 miles. With the over-the-air updates, F-150 Lightning owners may be surprised to find that the range increases by 20 miles. This update could occur sometime by the second quarter of 2022.

Another over-the-air update that the F-150 Lightning may offer is a pickup and delivery experience. Also, the F-150 Lightning will likely offer many updates for its various technologies, such as the infotainment system. With a connected truck like the F-150, there are many different directions that Ford can go with the updates. The automaker is in the process of exploring a variety of them.

Beyond the over-the-air updates, the F-150 Lighting comes equipped with myriad advanced technologies. It has a sophisticated digital experience with the latest iteration of the SYNC infotainment system. Features in the infotainment system include voice recognition, smartphone integration, and cloud-connected navigation.

The sleek instrument cluster in the F-150 Lightning adds to the digital experience. It naturally provides relevant information as needed, such as the truck’s performance while in hands-free driving mode. With the FordPass feature, you can do things like remotely access the truck and locate nearby charging stations.

Ford moves into the automated driving realm with its BlueCruise feature for the F-150 Lightning. BlueCruise provides hands-free driving on a select number of pre-qualified divided highways. As of this writing, this includes over 100,000 miles of roads in North America. BlueCruise functions by using radar-sensing technologies and a driver-facing camera.
