Ford’s all-electric F-150 has finally been revealed, and the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has a lot going for it. Not only does it look like a regular F-150, but it’s also incredibly affordable, especially compared to other EV trucks. Here’s a comparison between the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning and the 2022 GMC Hummer EV2.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is an affordable truck

As MotorTrend wrote, the price tag of the Ford F-150 Lightning is one of its most startling features. Most EVs, for one reason or another, cost quite a bit of money, especially when trucks can also get pretty pricy. However, Ford has decided to price the Ford F-150 Lightning at a starting MSRP of a tad under $40,000.

While not all details are currently available, there will be three other trims for the Lightning. The XLT will start at about $54,000, the Platinum will be about $90,000, but the Lariat’s price tag is unknown.

The Hummer EV2, meanwhile, also has four trims, but none are really affordable. The cheapest trim, the regular EV2, will start at about $80,000. However, it won’t even be available until 2024. The next most affordable trim is the EV3X, and it will start at about $100,000. However, this trim won’t be available until 2022.

The Edition 1, which is the trim that will be available in 2021, costs over $112,000. Pricing isn’t known for the EV2X, but it’s not coming until 2023 anyway.

While GMC may have equipped the Hummer EV2 with equipment that’s worthy of its price tag, Ford has also done that for the Ford F-150 Lightning. Like MotorTrend wrote, the F-150 Lightning has a five-passenger SuperCrew cab with a 5.5-foot bed, and that’s exactly the same dimensions as the regular F-150. As such, F-150 fans can transition rather seamlessly into their new truck.

In terms of specs, its electric motors will provide about 426 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. This allows the truck to be as fast as lightning, as it can accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in about 4.4 seconds. It will also have a decent maximum range of about 230 miles. When properly equipped, the Lightning can get up to 563 hp, and its range will be 300 miles instead.

A properly equipped Lightning can also tow up to 10,000 pounds, and its max payload capacity will be about 2,000 pounds. That being said, like any other EV, the Lightning will have a frunk, and the frunk will be able to hold 400 pounds of cargo. To top it all off, the Lighting also has a 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen display, and it’s the centerpiece of the F-150 Lightning’s infotainment system.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is a great value

Due to those great standard features, it’s no surprise that MotorTrend remarked that a customer could buy two F-150 Lightning XLTs for the price of one Hummer EV2 Edition 1. That’s not even considering the fact that the Ford F-150 Lightning is currently eligible for the federal EV tax credits, and they will potentially shave off thousands of dollars from the EV’s already affordable price tag.

Because of that, unless the Hummer offers something that customers absolutely want or need, the F-150 Lightning seems like it’s going to be a far better value than the Hummer will ever be. After all, the F-150 Lightning offers almost everything that an F-150 fan may want in a truck while being a very efficient and cost-competitive truck, to begin with.

The Ford F-150 Lightning’s biggest competitor may not even be another electric truck, but rather the regular F-150 itself. But given Lightning model’s impressive specs and affordable price tag, the F-150 Lightning may be able to beat its competition and then some.

Tesla is shaking things up in their lineup once again. This time, it’s in the form of their driver assistance software. According to the Palo Alto-based company, Model 3 and Model Y vehicles delivered scheduled for May of 2021 will no longer be equipped with radar cruise, at least for now. This news comes as Tesla prepares to transition from the use of cameras for radar cruise to software they call “Tesla Vision”. The software is an interesting approach to a feature many consumers expect to be standard in new cars today.

What is Tesla Vision?

As is always the case with the EV brand, there’s more to it than a simple software change. Tesla Vision aims to make use of “camera vision and neural net processing” to accomplish the use of safety features like the company’s Full Self Driving and Autopilot software. This update will fundamentally change how adaptive cruise works in Teslas, a shift from the norm. Radar systems in modern cars function by bouncing radar waves off the back of the car in front and adjusting the brake and throttle inputs according to the distance and speed of the car ahead.

Instead, Tesla’s system will use a series of cameras to analyze the speed and distance of cars around it, and adjust the driver’s desired speed accordingly. According to the brand’s founder, Elon Musk, this shift in technology will pave the way for future models being classified as Level 5 full self-driving vehicles, meaning the car requires no input whatsoever from the driver.

Some features will be hampered for now

There are some downsides here. Because of this update, both the Model 3 and Model Y will not have radar cruise for an unspecified amount of time. It’s a big feature to eliminate with no timeline, and will certainly affect sales of new models. That is until the new Tesla Vision software is up to speed. Among these affected features are Autosteer and Smart Summon. The latter is debatably the coolest feature of these cars; allowing drivers to summon their car to them a la Batman.

As for Autosteer, usage will be limited rather than eliminated. There will be no minimum following distance; which could be potentially dangerous given the number of Tesla crashes seen in the news lately. Moreover, the system will be limited to a max of 75 mph. This one is less of an issue given that 75 mph is breaking the speed limit pretty much anywhere.

What does this mean for Full Self Driving?

Upsides are plentiful once the technology becomes fully active, however. Level 5 self-driving will change the face of driving as we know it. Whether it will be for better or worse remains to be seen. The fact of the matter is, Tesla has made customers pay a whopping $10,000 for a feature they can’t even use yet. Whether this pays off in the future remains to be seen.

We have a surprise for y’all today! The Ram 1500 has a new flex because it has the best resale value out of every pickup truck. We know you would think that the Toyota Tundra or Tacoma would be on top. But the Ram 1500 claimed the throne somehow.

The Ram 1500 has the best resale value

According to Torque News, the Ram 1500 has the best resale value right now. Owners are being offered a lot of cash to trade in their trucks right now. If you are willing to part with your truck, then you could come out on top.

A study by iSeeCars analyzed over 1.2 million used car sales in April 2021 to determine how much the prices of used vehicles have increased and to determine which options have the best resale value.

Used vehicle prices have increased by 16.8 percent or by about $3,926 over the past 12 months. Used trucks and sports cars have the highest price increases, making them the worst vehicles to buy and best to sell.

The Ram 1500 has increased by 28.8 percent in value. The GMC Sierra came in second place with a 28.8 percent increase. The Chevy Silverado 1500 gained a 27.1 percent price increase, and the Toyota Tundra increased in value by 26 percent. The Ford F-150 wasn’t in the top 10.

Why are prices increasing?

The global microchip shortage is restricting new truck supply. This is linked to a restricted used truck supply because fewer people are trading in their trucks. So, we have a combination of a decreased supply and increased demand.

iSeeCars Analyst Karl Bauer explained that the current used truck price increase is unparalleled. Prices may stay elevated for the foreseeable future due to the magnitude of the global chip microchip shortage. But while used truck deals are hard to find, there are still some good deals out there. Some models won’t have as large of a sticker shock as other used vehicles.

According to Driving.Ca, production of the 2021 Ram 1500 is idling due to the chip shortage. Stellantis recently announced that half of its assembly plants in North America will close due to chip shortages.

Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler models are affected by these closures. Like other automakers, Stellantis used their chip supply to produce their most popular vehicles while they could. The semiconductor shortage is expected to last well into the second quarter.

What’s so great about Ram trucks?

If all pickup truck models are facing shortages, why is the Ram 1500 the most valuable option right now? It was remodeled in 2019, and other trucks haven’t been able to catch up yet. According to Edmunds, the unique suspension delivers an unparalleled smooth ride and sense of control.

Plus, the cabin is spacious and quiet for relaxing rides. There is plenty of storage for all of your gear. The center console bin is massive, there are hidden compartments under the rear floor, and the optional RamBox locking bins that are built into the sides of the truck bed are very useful.

The optional 12-inch touchscreen looks excellent, and multiple USB and USB-C ports are available. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. The layout is simple, and all of the controls are easy to reach. It’s a well-rounded option that provides a comfortable ride, strength to get work done, and impressive off-roading capabilities.

Much like a list of overrated supercars, the most underrated supercars is pretty subjective. Some of the cars on this list might be considered underrated due to the scarcity alone. How often do you see a Lexus supercar on the road? Not very often, right? Ferrari made about 350 of the Ferarri F50, which makes it even rarer.

A criminally underrated supercar, the Lexus LFA

The Lexus LFA is quite elusive. Lexus made the LFA from 2010 through 2012. It had a V10 engine that was very different from a Lexus you could find on a car lot. According to Wikipedia, only about 500 cars were produced, with the Nürburgring Package model being the final version. Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) made up 65% of the body. This helped make the Lexus LFA one of the most expensive Japanese cars ever built. Alain Uyttenhoven of Lexus Europe noted there would be no follow-up to the LFA. “The LFA is an icon now and possibly always will be – we don’t need to replace it to keep that status. It is a car we can reference for another 25 years if we choose.”

Is the Acura NSX a supercar?

What’s not to love about the Acura NSX? The classic version ran from 1990 through 2005, and the second generation launched in 2016. The NSX name meant “New,” “Sportscar,” “Unknown (X) World,” according to the Wikipedia page. Gordon Murray, who designed the McLaren F1, claimed he used the NSX as inspiration when designing the F1. Acura called North American models the Acura NSX.

The first generation came with a 2.3L V6. The first generation was discontinued in 2005. The second generation came with a 2.5L twin-turbo V6 engine and got close to 600 horsepower combined with three electric motors. Honda called the second generation the Honda NSX. Only 1,386 were sold in the U.S. through 2020. In Europe, Honda sold only 215 in the same time frame.

Is the Ferarri F50 better than the F40?

RELATED: Man Used $5.1M in PPP Loans to Buy Lamborghini and Ferrari

The Ferrari F50 obviously came after the F40, which some people find an overrated supercar. Whatever your preference, the F50 was pretty sweet. From 1995 through 1997, Ferrari made the F50. It came with a 4.7L naturally aspirated V12 engine. Ferrari originally used this engine in the Formula 1 car, the Ferrari 641. Wikipedia says Ferrari created only 349 of these cars, and the last one left the factory in July of 1997.

How many of the BMW 850CSi were made?

The BMW 850CSi was part of BMW’s 8 Series, built from 1992 through 1996, says Wikipedia. It came with a 5.6L V12, and the 850CSi was only available with the six-speed manual transmission. Road & Track recorded a 0-60 mile per hour time as 5.9 seconds, which was insane for that year. Only 1,510 BMW 850CSi were made as it was considered a top-of-the-line trim.

The underrated supercars on this list might be ones that you never get to see in person. However, now that you know what to look for, perhaps one will pop up. The most likely suspect is a new NSX. While these vehicles don’t have the same history as the first generation, Acura did a fairly good job reviving the sportscar.
