There aren’t many reasons to chop a perfectly good 2020 Jeep Gladiator in half. Unlike most YouTube car content, this one isn’t some ridiculous stunt trashing something for clicks. In fact, this brutal video of the Jeep Gladiator living up to its namesake is just the first step in the owner going all-in on an overlanding rig.

This 2020 Jeep gladiator is going full overland

According to The Drive, Phil Kockerbeck, YouTuber known for Down2Mob Overland, sold his massive Dodge overland camper known on the internet as the “Dogdemahal.” His Dodge Ram conversion camper was liquidated to make room for a new rig built using a Jeep Gladiator.

For the past year, Kockerbeck has been trashing his 2020 Gladiator from here to there. While overlanding in Colorado, the Jeep Gladiator suffered a snapped front axle after hitting a boulder in just the wrong way.

The Gladiator then had to spend a little while in the shop, and Kockerbeck figured now was a good time to pull the bed and get after it. The plan was to convert the Jeep Gladiator as he had his Dodge, which meant it would have to have some frame trimmed, which meant busting out the Sawzall.

The Bison Overland Camper shell is the key to this camper conversion. Kockerbeck and a friend removed the bed from the frame of the Gladiator, measured the frame, and pulled out the ol’ Sawzall.

As the partner is manning the saw, Kockerbeck nervously watches as his 2020 Jeep Gladiator gets damn near cut in half. Of course, so much of the “nervousness” is done for the fine folks watching at home on YouTube. However, the frame of his new truck is still getting sliced in half—a fair cause for alarm.

The replacement for the chopped frame is a tubular frame that Kockerbeck had commissioned to suit the overland camper shell and a mounted massive spare. This new tubular frame is wider than the original to support the size of the camper shell. Since his Jeep Gladiator runs 40-inch tires, the full-size spare also had to be accounted for in the frame size.

Most of us don’t have to spend this much time and effort on where to put our spare tires, but also, most of us don’t run 40-inch tires. Kockerbeck mentions in the video that without this new rear frame section, he would have to keep the spare in the roof rack, which eats valuable space.

Space is a consideration, but the spare weighs 160 pounds, which in the offroad sphere requires special attention to make sure all the weight is properly distributed.

This camper conversion is going the distance

Not only will the Bison Camper have the pop-up feature, Kockerbeck says he wants to be able to sleep in the Bison shell without having to pop the top. After a long day of off-road travel or even highway travel, there is real value in being able to merely pull over and get some sleep without having to set up the camper side of the Jeep completely.

The frame modifications allow him and another to have enough room in the camper shell to sit upright and eat, hang out, and be indoors without being crunched up.

As noted by The Drive, the final mods (at least for this round) will add the roof rack for his bike and Kayak.

If chopping a Jeep Gladiator in half feels like a terrible idea, think twice. With the right tools, plan, and know-how, chopping a perfectly good Jeep in half might be the best thing you could ever do to achieve ultimate overlanding status.

Ferrari, Volkswagen, and Toyota all have their own car-branded theme parks. It was only a matter of time before CyberLand was conjured. Elon Musk, Tesla’s founder, has been known to want a roller coaster installed in the Fremont, California, Tesla assembly plant since 2017. But a different company has actually taken the next step to make CyberLand a possibility.

Ferrari, VW, and Toyota, all have theme parks-why not a CyberLand?

Ferrari Land, VW Autostadt, and Toyota Megaweb are all car-branded theme parks. “With car-branded theme parks springing up all over the place, the idea of a Tesla version doesn’t seem all that far-fetched,” says Georgia Coggan at Creative Bloq. Others see it as a big hit with Tesla fanboys.

Now LeaseFetcher, a car lease comparison site, has taken the next step by actually defining how Cyberland would be built out. LeaseFetcher’s Alasdair Cherry says it would be “like you’ve just been cast in the latest Black Mirror episode or you’re about to commit some sort of cognitive intelligence heist… The stars are aligning Elon. Get CyberLand built.”

The types of rides and layout for CyberLand are envisioned

So, what would a CyberLand park look like? The “Place Where Intergalactic Dreams Come True” has an illustration that shows what some of the rides might be. It is a general layout of the proposed park. There are rides like the Model X Falcon wing doors flying cars swing ride.

Then there is the Hyperloop motion simulator not for the faint of heart. How about Cybertruck bumper cars? There’s a SpaceX slingshot ride and a Tesla roadster with Starman floating through space. Don’t forget Musk’s boring company represented by an underground rollercoaster.

Musk has said he wanted to add “more fun things”

That’s the thing with Musk’s ventures. It is not just about cars. He’s got the Boring company making underground tunnels, and of course SpaceX with potentially many rocketship-based attractions. And he has in the past said he wanted to add “more fun things” as the company became profitable.

Tesla has already decided to add amusements to its largest charging facility being built in Santa Monica, California. So this is a recurring theme around Elon Musk’s properties. We don’t know if or when it will be completed but it is just one more Musk-related project that could be in the works.

Shouldn’t some fun factor be added to the serious business of cars?

Building rockets, cars, and tunnels are serious business. But some fun factor should be added to the equation, right? Jeep and Ford are hosting off-road gatherings to promote their SUVs. There was even a time when dealerships would drop a used car from a tall crane for publicity.

Maybe it is time to liven things up with active theme parks where you can mix fun with your favorite brand? Making the adventure around vehicle ownership might be a great way to associate your products as fun just for having something like a CyberLand. What do you think?

Ford is releasing bug fixes for the 2021 Ford F-150 and Mustang Mach-E to correct problems with the zone lighting and Android Auto connectivity issues. The Android Auto update is expected to roll out in June.

Apple CarPlay will also receive an upgrade in June to display turn-by-turn directions in the instrument panel and improvements to the built-in native navigation system. Also, the digital owner’s manual will become easier to access with the touchscreen.

The FordPass app is getting a few additional enhancements as well. The remote vehicle setup will allow users to create profiles with their favorite settings in the app.

For example, you can set your favorite radio presets, and the information will be saved in the cloud for the vehicle. The 2021 Mustang Mach-E will gain updated trip-tracking features to display battery usage data too.

What new features do the F-150 and Mustang Mach-E get?

One of the most anticipated new features for the 2021 Ford F-150 and Mustang Mach-E includes the new BlueCruise hands-free driving software. This update will be provided to the models that have the corresponding hardware and requires a software purchase.

According to Automotive News, the BlueCruise system costs $600 to use for three years. The vehicles also require a driver-facing camera. This way, the hands-free driving system will only be engaged if the driver is paying attention.

The 2021 Mustang Mach-E is gaining a Sketch and Notes feature. Ford mentioned that this allows the touchscreen to be used for drawing and simple gaming. We’re going to assume that this feature can only be accessed while the Mustang Mach-E is in park.

Plus, Ford is partnering with Amazon to enhance its Amazon Alexa connectivity for vehicles equipped with the Sync 4 system. This update will occur later this fall and will be for the Bronco, Edge, Mustang Mach-E, and F-Series Super Duty heavy-duty trucks.

The Ford over-the-air updates are known as Power-Up updates. They can occur in the background while the system is running. However, some updates may require the system to reboot.

Ford recommends scheduling update times for overnight or during periods when the vehicle isn’t in use. Some of these updates may occur in as little as two minutes, but others could take much longer.

When shopping for a new car, many buyers are looking to best deal they can get. However, there are many factors that go into getting that bottom-dollar amount, one of which is how long the car has been sitting on the dealer’s lot. The more days that a car has been sitting on the lot, the better the deal.

But if a certain make and model sells quickly, then dealers are less likely to give you the best deal possible on it. As such, here are 10 of the fastest-selling cars in April, according to iSeeCars, that you’ll want to avoid if you’re hunting for the best deal that you can get on a new car.

The microchip shortage has hindered new car sales

iSeeCars recently analyzed over 1.3 million new and used cars that were sold in April 2021. The site found that new cars take around 48.3 days to sell, while the average used car sits on the lot for 37.4 days before it’s sold. You might be aware of the microchip shortage that is currently slowing down sales as well, so that was a factor last month as the new car inventory was in shorter supply.

“The microchip shortage is showing up as a clear constriction to new car supply, as we’ve seen a 16.6% drop in new car inventory over just the past four weeks from April to May,” said iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer. “The significant decrease in inventory suggests demand continues to outpace supply, and these hot sellers will likely be even more difficult to find in the coming months.”

Here are 10 of the fastest-selling cars, which according to iSeeCars, sell 2.4 to 5.3 times faster than the average new vehicle.

No. 1 – Chevrolet Corvette: 9.2 days

No. 2 – Jeep Wrangler 4xe: 10.5 days

No. 3 – Kia Telluride: 12.6 days

What can we say about the Kia Telluride that hasn’t already been said? Our only surprise is that it’s not at the top of this list.  That being said, we’re not surprised that Tellurides only hang around dealer lots for 12.6 days on average.

No. 5 – Lexus IS 350: 13.4 days

If you’re in the market for an entry-level luxury sedan, then the Lexus IS 350 is a strong choice. However, you’ll have to act quickly as it only spends time on the dealer lots for an average of 13.4 days.

No. 6 – Toyota RAV4 Prime: 13.7 days

The Toyota Motor Corp. 2021 RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid sports utility vehicle (SUV) is displayed during a reveal event at AutoMobility LA ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show in Los Angeles, California, U.S., on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019. Supercar-like acceleration and all-electric range make the Toyota RAV4 Prime a highly sought-after crossover. In fact, it’s in such high demand that many dealers are still marking up the prices on them, but they’re still selling like hotcakes.

No. 7 – Cadillac Escalade: 13.9 days

The Cadillac Escalade is one of the most well-known SUVs in the market, so it’s no wonder that it only lasts an average of 13.9 days on dealer lots.

The all-new Kia Carnival recently replaced the existing Sedona minivan nameplate. It also just hit showroom floors but is selling well considering it only lasts 13.9 days on average.

No. 9 – Toyota Tacoma: 15 days

When shopping for a mid-size truck, there’s no better choice than the Toyota Tacoma if reliability is high on your list of must-haves. You’ll need to be quick if you’re shopping for one, though, as Tacomas only sit on dealer lots for around 15 days.

No. 10 – GMC Yukon: 15.5 days

If you don’t need something as posh as the Cadillac Escalade, then you can always opt for the GMC Yukon. This three-row SUV provides plenty of comfort and space for up to nine people and it’s really popular, so you might have to pay top dollar for it.

There are plenty more high-demand cars to choose from

This is just the top half of the list of “Top 20 Fast-Selling New Vehicles for April 2021,” courtesy of iSeeCars. Here are the trailing 10 cars:

  • Toyota 4Runner – 16.1 days
  • Chevrolet Tahoe – 16.3 days
  • GMC Yukon XL – 17.7 days
  • Cadillac Escalade ESV – 18.3 days
  • Toyota Tundra – 18.5 days
  • Hyundai Elantra Hybrid – 19.8 days
  • Lexus RX 450h – 20.5 days
  • Chevrolet Suburban – 20.7 days
  • Toyota RAV4 Hybrid – 21 days
  • Kia Sorento Hybrid – 21 days

The one important part to note is that since these cars are so popular, it’ll most likely be harder to strike the deal of the century on them. However, your mileage may vary since some dealers have more room for negotiation than others. Just remember to do your pricing research before heading to the dealership.
