If you’re dealing down illicit avenues you’re no doubt dealing in cash. And once you become successful, if you don’t land in prison first, you need to figure out what to do with all of that cash. Laundering it through the sale of cars seems like a great way to get that dirty money into circulation and clean it up. And no scams of innocent victims are involved.

That’s what many criminal enterprises are doing; importing and exporting used cars to launder their illicit money. In Canada, the Cullen Commission was tasked with looking at dirty money artificially raising real-estate prices in Vancouver. But it inadvertently found that cars are a big part of money laundering according to carscoops

A lot of the cars being exported are selling for less money than they are actually worth. China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Cambodia, are destinations, with prices lower by almost 50%. It is a quick way to dump the vehicles to get cash into circulation.

This includes over $6 million undervalued going to China. And $10 million in diesel trucks undervalued by as much as 50-70% are coming into the US. Recipients here in the US are mostly used car dealers.

Using wire transfers like WeChat Pay, cars can be purchased and then resold for clean money. Another way to clean up dirty money is to put down a deposit on a vehicle. Then, the person backs out of the deal, with the refund coming as clean money.

Leasing is still another way criminals use because the car actually belongs to the dealer. So for the police to get involved it is harder to trace the money. They can’t prove where the funds come from.

Used car dealers are the preferred route to engage with because they are regulated with fewer laws than new car dealerships. Protecting their franchises means things need to be clean for the most part. Financing is usually done through a corporate entity that has the ability to see the origin of the funds.

“Salespeople aren’t detectives”

The other thing about using used car dealers is that there is usually no need to seek out where the money is really coming from. As the head of the Used Car Dealers Association Bob Pierce says, “Salespeople aren’t detectives. We have not trained them to be and nor should we. How can we tell if a driver’s license is issued officially or by people who make false passports?”

Obviously, that applies to cash. Especially, if someone is paying in cash it makes for a much cleaner transaction. So in the case of used car dealers, it is probably the preferred method to sell a vehicle.

New car dealers are paid incentives to finance vehicles through the internal manufacturer’s financial credit arm. So selling a new car for cash offers much less incentive than it does for a used car store.

When a person takes the plunge and buys a sports car, most are in it for the speed, style, and overall performance of the engine. Comfort typically isn’t top of mind when people think about sports cars, but that doesn’t mean a speedy or athletic machine has to be a drag to sit in for hours. The designers of the 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata clearly put some thought into how to make their seats surprisingly cozy.

Learn more about the 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata and its comfortable interior below.

An overview of the 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata

The 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata has been around for decades, and it has cemented itself as a favorite sportscar among many car enthusiasts. What makes this sportscar so special?

For starters, you just have to take one look at its exterior to understand why someone would find the car enthralling. Its aerodynamic and slim front complement any color you could choose, though it looks most striking in “Soul Red Crystal Metallic” or “Eternal Blue Mica.”

The interior is also fantastic, made with high-quality materials that make it look and feel high-class and luxurious. As far as infotainment goes, you’ll get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth, HD radio, a six-speaker audio system, and two USB ports. You can opt to upgrade the infotainment system to include a Bose stereo system, navigation, automatic climate control, and more.

U.S. News points out that the infotainment system is intuitive for the most part, but the infotainment control center is near the shifter, so it’s a common irritation to accidentally knock the infotainment controls while shifting gears.

Some complain about the small trunk space, but most people don’t expect their sportscar to haul around tons of large equipment anyway.

The 2018 MX-5 Miata is available in automatic and manual, but manual provides a more authentic driving experience that is sure to please.

This car also gets incredible gas mileage with both automatic and manual transmissions, coming in at 33 MPG on the highway for manual and 33 MPG with automatic.

Plus, the 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata has an above-average predicted reliability rating from J.D. Power and Associates, which helped propel it to U.S. News‘ No. 1 pick for Best Used Convertibles from $15,000 to $25,000 for 2021.

The 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata comes in three trims, the Miata Sport, Club, and Grand Touring. According to Edmunds, most 2018 MX-5 Miatas are below $26,000, even for the top-of-the-line Grand Touring Trim.

Is the 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata comfortable?

The 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata comes standard with beautiful and plush cloth upholstery seats, though you can opt to upgrade your seating situation to include heated, leather-trimmed, Nappa leather-trimmed, or Recaro sport seats.

As Autobytel points out, the seating in this car isn’t just great because it has decent cushioning to support your bum. This car’s seating is great because the shapes of the seats are comfortable for your entire body and the seats provide excellent support for your legs, back, neck, and everything in between.

Plus, the MX-5 Miata‘s seating is perfectly positioned for drivers to have total control of the wheel and gearshift without having to constantly change positions or strain too hard.

Every second is ticking closer to when the 2022 Chevy Silverado will make its debut. So, with every passing second, we are getting more and more excited. The new Chevy Silverado will answer the call to the recently redesigned Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 in unique ways.

What do we know about the 2022 Chevy Silverado?

Well, we know that the Chevy Silverado 1500 is due for an upgrade, but it hasn’t been that long since the last generation was redesigned in 2019. According to Cars, the hood, doors, and tailgate are aluminum, and the body and frame gained more high-strength steel.

But the interior styling remained pretty much the same aside from offering more storage and centering the previously offset steering wheel. As a result, the redesign just didn’t seem to provide enough change. That’s why the 2022 Chevy Silverado is about to take care of business.

What to expect with the new Chevrolet Silverado

According to CarsDirect, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 will adopt a new look in the front and rear. However, it won’t be a drastic change. Instead, it’s safer to expect a light refresh with the latest version of the two-tiered grill design with updated headlights.

Motor1 mentions that you can spot circular lamps in the headlights, but these lights could just be placeholders for the final design.

In the rear, you can expect a new bumper and tailgate design. The taillights may be revised too. This information is highly speculative because we currently only have spy shots to go on. In the photos, the hood and rear-end are heavily covered under camouflage.

The interior is expected to adopt a total overhaul with higher quality materials, an updated layout, and new tech. Motor1 suggests that the Chevy Silverado could gain tech similar to what you can find in the Chevy Suburban.

The 2021 Chevy Suburban has a standard 10-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has an optional Wi-Fi hotspot and tons of charging ports. The Silverado could get the digital gauge cluster that the Sierra Denali has too.

How much power will the new Chevy Silverado have?

The 2022 Chevy Silverado is expected to continue offering five different engine options:

  • The 4.3-liter V6 engine provides 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque.
  • The turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine pumps out 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque.
  • The 5.3-liter V8 engine is a powerhouse with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.
  • The 2.0-liter inline-six diesel engine provides 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
  • Last and definitely not least, the 6.2-liter V8 engine serves up 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

But rumors are claiming that the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 is in the works. This could be a new super truck to compete against the Ford Raptor and Ram TRX. But it could also be an off-roading variant like the Ford F-150 Tremor.

According to GM-Trucks, the Chevy Silverado Z2R was captured in photos and videos while being put to work. They suggest that you can hear the faint rumble of a V8 engine. The truck also looks like it’s sitting on 35-inch tires with Multimatic spool valve dampers.

The new rock crawling truck could include front and rear locking differentials and tons of underbody plating. It’s expected to be like the Chevy colorado ZR2, only larger. But, unfortunately, we will have to wait to learn more.

For many of us, a new transmission doesn’t mean much beyond asking how much it’s going to cost to get replaced. For car enthusiasts, it can reveal a lot about the car, such as how much power it will be able to generate, and how much effort you’ll put into driving it. Hyundai has just made a lot of car lovers very happy with a recent press release regarding the new transmission hitting the 2022 Hyundai Kona N. Yet, it’s also a bitter-sweet moment as one much-beloved feature is notably missing.

The 2022 Hyundai Kona N has a new dual-clutch transmission

Hyundai News recently announced exciting information about the 2022 Hyundai Kona N, and it has some car enthusiasts drooling. The Kona N will be the Korean automaker’s first high-performance SUV, and it will come equipped with an eight-speed wet-type dual-clutch transmission, known as N DCT.

If you’re a mechanic or just like to keep up with the car lingo, this all makes perfect sense. If you’re not, however, it can be a little confusing. So here’s what we found out.

According to Hyundai News, “The electric pump system is composed of the High Flow Electric Oil Pump, which is responsible for gear lubrication and clutch cooling, and the High Pressure Electric Oil Pump, which supplies oil to the accumulator and maintains the pressure needed to control the gear shifting. Together, they ensure that the wet DCT can function with minimum engine power loss, thus resulting in better fuel economy. This new, updated pump system increases the number of applications for the wet N DCT, making it optimal for high-torque applications.”

Essentially, what this all means is that drivers will get superior performance thanks to an increase in the maximum torque, and you’ll have more fun driving the Kona N. For anyone looking for an SUV that doesn’t squeal tires when you press the gas, the Kona N sounds like it might be the solution to your problem. There’s just one issue though that will have some car lovers fuming.

Does the 2022 Kona N have a manual transmission?

RELATED: Is a Manual Transmission More Reliable?

Any vehicle that earns the title of high performance is sure to draw in some positive attention. Hyundai Motors has made some drivers very disappointed, however, by the lack of a manual transmission for the Kona N.

While many drivers dread trying to drive a vehicle equipped with a manual, for others, it’s a rite of passage. There’s something about being in greater control of the vehicle that is empowering and makes some drivers feel closer to their cars. For those who think of a car as just something to get from point A to point B in, the lack of a manual is no big deal. Car enthusiasts are more than a little disappointed, however.

Autoblog was quick to point out the lack of manual transmission. It did go on to state that the dual-clutch automatic seems like it will be all that Hyundai has promised, but it’s still not quite the same. It appears the lack of enthusiasm for manual transmission was all the reasoning Hyundai needed to avoid adding it to the Kona N.

Are there any other surprises in the 2022 Hyundai Kona?

While the lack of a manual is more than a little disappointing, it did leave us wondering if there was more to the 2022 Hyundai Kona N. MotorTrend was able to provide some details.

The 2022 Hyundai Kona N is getting the same 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that’s equipped in the Elantra N. So, if you’ve got time, taking the Elantra N for a test drive can give you a solid idea of how the Kona N will perform.

Tragically, there is no AWD option. It will have front-wheel drive, which is always a little disappointing on an SUV. Despite this, it sounds like the 2022 Hyundai Kona N is well worth the wait for anyone interested in a compact SUV.
