In late March, Polaris issued a recall for a list of ROV models and utility vehicles. The recall involved somewhere around 43,000 ROVs and utility vehicles after being sold in North America. Apparently, the Polaris Ranger, ProXD, Gravely, and Bobcat utility vehicles experience issues with a potentially breaking drive belt.

This problem is serious because if the drive belt breaks during operation it’s likely to cause other damage as well. Specifically, the inner clutch cover assembly and fuel line. According to Consumer Affairs and its report on the recall, this can lead to a fuel leak that results in a fire hazard.

Three confirmed reports of drive belt failure

There have been three confirmed reports of drive belt failure, Consumer Affairs reports. All three of these failures resulted in a damaged fuel line. In fact, two of those three ultimately ended in an actual fire.

Thankfully, the only reported property damage so far has been the ROVs or utility vehicles in question. There aren’t any further reports of extraneous property damage so far. Nor any injuries reported.

Which Polaris ROV and utility vehicles are affected by the recall?

The recall includes several models associated with the Polaris manufacturer, headquartered in Medina, Minnesota. According to the Consumer Affairs report, the models involved include the Polaris Ranger 1000 and Ranger Crew 1000 from both the 2020 and 2021 model years.

In addition, the 2020 ProXD 2000G and 4000G units are affected. Furthermore, 2020 and 2021 model year Ariens/Gravely JSV3200, JSV3400, and JSV6400 vehicles. Also, the 2020 Bobcat UV34 4×4 gas and UV34 XL gas, and 2021 Bobcat UV34 4×4 gas off-road vehicles.

The recalled vehicles affected sold in a variety of colors. These colors included black, red, green, titanium, tan, camo, gray, blue, and white. The recalled Ranger models have either three or six seats. The ProXD, Ariens/Gravey, and Bobcat off-road vehicles have either two or four seats.

“The RANGER and ProXD vehicles have “POLARIS” stamped on the front grille, the Ariens/Gravely vehicles have “Gravely” stamped on the front grille, and the Bobcat vehicles have the Bobcat logo on the front grille.”

Manufactured in both Mexico and the U.S., the recalled utility and off-road side-by-side vehicles were sold at Bobcat, Ariens, and Polaris dealers across North America. With sales beginning in 2018 and up until December 2020, the units sold for between $13,000 and $18,500––according to Consumer Affairs.

What to do if your side-by-side is recalled

Naturally, if you fear your vehicle is affected by this recall you should immediately cease using your unit. After that, you should contact your Ariens, Polaris, or Bobcat dealer. That you can schedule a time to bring your utility vehicle in for a free inspection, diagnosis, and (if necessary) repairs.

The brands will reach out to the documented buyers of each model. Bobcat, Ariens, and Polaris are notifying dealers as well. This should help locate every purchased model that may need an inspection.

If you’ve watched Fast & Furious 7, then you’ll know all about the Lykan HyperSport we’ll be discussing today. That’s because it’s the red supercar Vin Diesel and Paul Walker famously jumped from one building into another. Now, the supercar used in the movie heads to auction. However, this is by no means a normal car auction.

According to Rubix, the car up for sale is the last remaining stunt car utilized in the movie. However, this car isn’t just being sold as a car. Instead, it’s being sold as an NFT. In short, this means you also get ownership of digital assets tied to the vehicle.

How many Lykan HyperSports are there?

If this is the first time you hear about the Lykan HyperSport without its connection to the famous movie, you’re not alone. That’s because only a total of seven of these cars were meant for production. The keyword here is “meant.” With a price tag of $3.4 million, it certainly isn’t easy to sell, even to uber-wealthy billionaires.

The whole appeal of this supercar was that it was designed and built by a middle eastern company for the middle east. Since this car has billionaires as its target audience, it won’t surprise you to learn that it houses diamonds in its front headlights.

Peel back the skin, and you’ll find that the Lykan HyperSport is secretly a Ruf CTR3 underneath. You even get a Ruf-built 3.7-liter flat-six engine pushing out 780 hp and 708 lb-ft.

Chances are, however, that you’ll never see one in the flesh. That’s because no one has. In fact, you can go online but won’t find videos of this car in high-performance scenarios. Instead, it rolls along quietly from auto show to auto show.

As you might imagine then, this auction isn’t for one of the seven proposed Lykan HyperSport models. Instead, it’s for one of the stunt cars utilized for filming. According to Motor1, a total of 10 stunt cars were made for the movie, and this one that’s up for sale is the last surviving one.

As you might imagine, this stunt car doesn’t have any of the original car’s exotic materials or powertrain. Instead, this stunt car houses a 2.7-liter flat-six pushing out 240 hp. While it does have a manual transmission, this car is by no means road legal. As a result, the winner of the bid is winning a piece of movie memorabilia.

As mentioned earlier, this Lykan HyperSport stunt car isn’t being sold alone. Instead, Rubix claims this auction also includes an NFT. Rubix claims this gives you:

“The highest bidder at the auction will receive an exclusive video of the NFT, a lifelike rendering of the stunt car, as well as the physical Lykan HyperSport stunt car that’s currently on display at the W Motors Gallery in Dubai, UAE.”

If this stunt car is the one for you, the bidding opens up officially on May 6th with an opening price of $100,000. While Rubix estimates this car will sell for as much as $2.5 million, that seems a bit optimistic.

Test drivers with Car and Driver were blown away by the Tesla Model S Long Range plus. It’s the first EV tested by Car and Driver to make it more than 300 miles on a single charge. The Long Range Plus is currently the longest range Tesla. What sets the Model S Long Range Plus apart and gives it this incredible range?

Car and Driver employs more than 60 years of experience when testing cars. Each year Car and Driver tests more than 400 cars gathering more than 200 stats on each. Testing is performed under strictly controlled conditions to ensure the integrity of the data.

Vehicles are driven at a consistent 75 mph on a loop of Michigan’s I-94 highway. Testing is rescheduled in the event of extreme weather or traffic interference. Climate control is set to 72 degrees, and no extra passengers are allowed. For EV’s these tests don’t include a meticulous and methodical fill-up beforehand.

EVs are tested a bit differently than gas-powered vehicles. An electric vehicle can not be driven at highway speeds once it enters low-battery or “limp” mode. For EVs, Car and Driver records the battery state and estimated range every 5 miles, then plot that data along a curve to project its full range. The Model S Long Range Plus gave Car and Driver an impressive 320 miles on one charge.

Tesla ranges have come a long way

Tesla released its first car in 2008. The Roadster offered drivers 245 miles of range on a full battery. The first Model S was released in 2012. The luxury sedan delivered 265 miles, a bump over its sportier sibling. Two years later, new editions of the Model S boasted 285 miles per charge.

Ludacris mode was introduced in the Model S in 2015. Drivers love the dramatic and exciting features. It may have come at a cost as these models offered a paltry 253-mile range. The Model X was introduced the same year and could only muster 250 miles per charge.

2018 saw the first Tesla models with potential ranges reaching 300 miles per full charge. The upcoming Cybertruck is projected to have the longest range of any vehicle the automaker has produced. The trimotor version of the Cybertruck is estimated to have a range of up to 500 miles.

How Tesla gave the Model S Long Range Plus a boost

Several changes were made to the Long Range plus to improve its performance. Surprisingly, no change was made to the battery, which is the same as the previous edition. Instead, the increase in range was created through efficiency. Interior materials were trimmed down in weight to put less strain on the motors. The Long Range Plus has improved aerodynamics to create less wind resistance. Custom vehicle-specific wheels and tires eke out extra miles. The motors were tweaked for better performance as well.

The Long Range Plus may reign supreme for now, but the upcoming Plaid Plus edition may dethrone it. It’s projected to have 30% more range than the Long Range Plus. The Plaid Plus Model S should be released by mid-2022.

It would seem there is a direct correlation between the size of the pickup truck and how cool people think they are. However, if that were how it worked, these five biggest pickup trucks would be the coolest thing east of the Mississippi.

In fact, like the Ford Ranger and maverick comeback, the small pickup trucks are having their day in the sun right now. As we know, bigger is not always better – but it is always bigger. So, let’s take a closer look at these big boys.

Ok, bad example. The Lamborghini LM002 is the coolest thing east of the Mississippi

The Lamborghini LM002 is one of the coolest 4x4s in the world. The LM002 is a perfect example of something that has become widely known because of its obscurity. Lamborghini making a pickup is kind of like Grey Poupon making ketchup; it doesn’t make a ton of sense.

Although the Lamborghini LM002 isn’t your typical Lambo, it is still a Lambo. Colloquially known as the “Rambo-Lambo,” the LM002 featured a 5.2-liter V12 engine similar to the Countach. According to TruckTrend, there was also an optional 7.2-liter marine V12.

Not only is the LM002 a fully legit Lamborghini, it’s also one of the biggest pickup trucks in the game.

Leave it to Hennessey to make a big truck bigger

Hennessey takes factory vehicles that are typically already insanely powerful and adds more insanity and more power. The Hennessey VelociRaptor is a perfect example of this madness they call business.

Hennessey took the already huge Ford Raptor, stretched it out, added a third set of wheels, and 300 hp. The VelociRaptor was unveiled at the 2017 SEMA show, and minds were blown. The 6×6 immediately sat among the God-Kings of the biggest pickup trucks, without question.

Something called the Apocalypse HellFire would be one of the biggest pickup trucks

The Apocalypse HellFire is yet another 6×6 monster. However, this time, it was built using a Jeep Gladiator. Apocalypse HellFire conversions are powered by naturally aspirated versions of the Chevy LS3 engine, making 500 hp.

If the “normal” version isn’t enough for you, the fine folks at Apocalypse also offer a 707-hp Dodge Hellcat-powered 6×6 with a full eight-foot bed. I guess if you need to haul serious weight and do it faster than chain blue lightning, then I guess you’ll need this giant pickup truck.

Don’t sleep on the OG Hummer H1

The Hummer H1 is one of the first of the biggest pickups that really hit the mainstream. Like the Lamborghini LM002, the Hummer H1 came from the Humvee designed for military use and was eventually offered as a civilian truck.

Of course, most of us think the giant four-door SUV rigs when we think Hummer, but it actually came in a two-door pickup truck configuration as well. This is like the precursor to the Hummer EV pickup truck that is set to come out sometime this year.

The International CXT is one of the biggest pickup trucks ever made

There are a few trucks like this one, like the Ford F-750, for instance. But, the International CXT is one of the biggest pickup trucks in the world. In fact, it belongs to a segment known as “extreme trucks,” as its name CXT (Commercial eXtreme Truck) would suggest.

This behemoth clocks in at 22 feet long and weighs over 14,000 pounds. It’s Detroit Diesel DT 466 I-6 inter-cooled turbo diesel engine makes 220 hp and 540 lb-ft of torque.

The International CXT has a 25,999-pound GVWR and a 42,000-pound GCWR. This is well into commercial license territory. Lastly, the International can carry up to 73 gallons of fuel and will burn a gallon of that every eight miles.
