Many people are excited to drive the new Porsche Taycan, a flagship EV among the brand’s sporty, luxurious cars. However, with the Taycan retailing for over $80,000, the average person might never get to buy one. Fortunately, Porsche has developed a service to make its cars more accessible.

The Taycan is the newest addition to Porsche Drive, a subscription service that allows consumers to rent multiple cars from the automaker. According to Motor1, becoming a subscriber isn’t exactly cheap. Still, it might be one of the best options if you’re itching to get behind the wheel of a Taycan.

How does Porsche Drive work?

Drivers can rent several models in the Porsche lineup, starting from $2,100 a month. At this tier, you can experience the Cayenne or the Cayman. The $3,100-per-month fleet includes more exciting models, including some 911 models and GTS trims.

Renting the Porsche Taycan starts at $2,500, while the Taycan 4S is available for $3,250 per month. However, the latter isn’t a part of the multi-vehicle subscription, reducing its value. To join each tier, you must be at least 27 years old and pass a background check.

For drivers who don’t want to pay that much, Porsche also offers a daily rate of $295 for the Porsche Taycan. And you can rent the Taycan 4S for $335 per day. You must keep each car for at least three days, but the minimum age for this service is only 21.

Is Porsche Drive worth it?

The regular monthly service is ideal for people who want to experience a Porsche vehicle without a long-term commitment. For most of the brand’s models, that’s less than what you’d put down each month on a car loan. Additionally, the plan also covers maintenance and insurance costs.

The daily rental fee is slightly less of a value, but it allows younger drivers to get in on the fun. For both the daily and monthly subscriptions, drivers are still required to pay for their own fuel.

Is the Porsche Taycan worth driving?

The Porsche Taycan is in a more expensive tier, but it boasts impressive performance specs. The base model packs an electric motor and a 79-kWh battery producing 321 hp. The 4S is considerably more powerful, with a dual-motor setup capable of up to 562 hp.

Unlike most EVs, all Taycan models come with a two-speed transmission. The two-speed gearbox allows for an extra boost during heavy throttle. According to Car and Driver, the Taycan 4S can reach 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds.

Though not included in Porsche Drive, the S Turbo models are a full second quicker. Handling on all the Taycan models is equally thrilling, and its momentum never decreases. Better still, the ride is smooth despite its sporty suspension and big wheels.

Its electric range — only 227 miles with the biggest battery pack — is subpar compared to many EVs. A DC fast charger can restore the battery to 80 percent capacity in about an hour and a half.

The Porsche Taycan’s interior is already luxurious enough, but you can customize it with several convenience options. You can add heating, ventilation, massaging features to the seats. Other optional perks include four-way automatic climate control and a premium 21-speaker audio system.

The Taycan’s only downside is its infotainment interface. Like most Porsche systems, it requires a steep learning curve, which might be problematic for three-day renters. Fortunately, most drivers will be too enthusiastic about the car’s performance to care.

When it comes to having fun off-road, Kawasaki has a great lineup of vehicles that can traverse the tough stuff. One of Kawasaki’s off-road offerings is the 2021 Teryx line of ROVs. But the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just reported a recall alert for Kawasaki Teryx ROV models that are experiencing fuel pump problems.

Although 100 units recalled doesn’t seem massive, it’s still notable that Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A is sending out a recall for fuel pump problems. Thankfully, no injuries or incidents have thus far been reported.

It seems Kawasaki may have caught the issue in time for any dire situations to occur. However, these Kawasaki fuel pump problems with the Tryx line are still serious. The fuel pump retainer plate bolts can come loose, which can cause a fuel leakage over time. This is a potential fire hazard.

The 2021 Kawasaki Teryx ROV

This four-wheel, off-highway utility vehicle is tons of fun. It also comes in a variety of colors. The colors sold for 2021 include camo, gray camo, blue, red, and green. This is a side-by-side ROV. That means there’s seating for two to four people, side-by-side.

If you own a 2021 Kawasaki Teryx ROV model, think your bolts are coming loose, and you want to check up on the recall, you’ll want to check your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). According to Consumer Affairs, the Kawasaki Teryx VIN is found on the steel frame “between the right-front lower A-arm mounts.”On the driver’s side of the hood, you’ll find the model name. If the model name isn’t on the hood, then you can check the front fenders.

A list of model names that might be affected by the recall for fuel pump problems

The CPSC has a list of model codes as well as VIN ranges posted on its website. The 2021 Kawasaki Teryx models affected by the recall include the Teryx S LE, Teryx4, Teryx4 LE, Teryx4 S LE, and Teryx4 S LE Camo. If you feel your unit could have fuel pump problems, you can check the VIN and go from there.

2021 Kawasaki Teryx models were manufactured in the U.S. They were then sold at respective Kawasaki dealers across the country, beginning in March of this year. These units generally sell between $16,000 and $17,900, Consumer Affairs reports.

If you think your Kawasaki Teryx ROV has fuel pump problems

If you are worried in the least about having fuel pump problems with the retainer plate bolts coming loose, stop using your ROV immediately. The first step will, as we said, be to check the VIN. But where do you go from there? Recalls can be a hassle, but with a few easy steps they are generally resolved simply.

Once you identify your model, you’ll want to contact your Kawasaki dealer. Then, you should be able to schedule a free repair visit to rectify the fuel pump problems with the retainer plate bolts. In addition, known buyers of these models are being reached out to by Kawasaki directly.

“Consumers may contact Kawasaki toll-free at (866) 802-9381 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (PT) Monday through Friday, or online at www.kawasaki.com and click on “Recalls” at the bottom of the page for more information.”

If you’re looking for an affordable electric car and don’t want a Tesla, then you should check out the new Volkswagen ID.4 and the Nissan Leaf. Both EVs present a great value proposition as you can buy either for around the $30k to $40k range and achieve over 200 miles on a single charge. But which one really provides you with the better value?

Nissan Leaf versus the Volkswagen ID.4

The all-new 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 has been the talk of the EV town over the past few months, and we’re not too surprised. Not only is it the newcomer in the EV market, but it’s a tough competitor to boot.

It’s powered by either a two-wheel, rear-drive powertrain or an all-wheel-drive powertrain that can produce 201 hp and 302 hp, respectively. The Nissan Leaf, on the other hand, is a front-drive hatchback that can be powered by either a 147 hp or 214 hp electric, depending on which battery size you choose.

While neither car can hold a candle to a Tesla Model’s performance, the Nissan Leaf can get a rolling start up to 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds as compared to the Volkswagen ID.4’s 5-60 mph time of 7.6 seconds, according to Car and Driver’s testing.

Performance isn’t everything

Of course, when it comes to electric vehicles, performance isn’t what most buyers are concerned with. And to that point, the Volkswagen ID.4 is slated to achieve up to 260 miles of range on a single charge, while the Nissan Leaf can go up to 150 miles when equipped with the 40.0-kWh battery and 226 miles with the larger 62-kWh battery.

Both EVs take around 7.5 hours to charge on a Level 2 charger, however, the Volkswagen ID.4 can be charged on a DC fast charger, which can charge it up to 80% in only 38 minutes, CNET reports.

Size matters between the two

While both electric vehicles can fit up to five occupants within their cabins, the ID.4 boasts a slightly larger interior volume. The new Volkswagen EV measures 101 cubic feet while the existing Nissan Leaf measures 93 cubic feet.

That’s not too surprising, considering the ID.4 is around 4 inches long, and a couple of inches wider and taller than the Leaf. So if you need more room, then the ID.4 could be the EV for you.

Which one is a better value?

From a cost standpoint, the Nissan Leaf provides a better value than the Volkswagen ID.4. The Leaf has a starting price of around $32,000 while the ID.4 starts at $39,999, before any additional rebates. However, if you’re looking for more in-cabin technology, an updated futuristic look, and all-wheel-drive capability, then the extra money that you’ll spend on the ID.4 could be well worth it.

But if you’re just looking to get into an electric vehicle that can take you from point A to B while providing a quick charge time in between, then for the money, it’s hard to beat the tried-and-true Nissan Leaf.

It’s no secret that 2021 Nissan Frontier failed to impress critics in any significant way. The 2021 Ram 1500, on the other hand, rose to the top of many pickup truck lists. So how did the midsize Frontier earn as many stars as the full-size Ram 1500 pickup truck?

On Cars.com, owners can input reviews. They rank their vehicles according to exterior styling, performance, interior design, comfort, reliability, and value. Obviously, the 2021 Nissan Frontier and the 2021 Ram 1500 are no apples to apples comparison in terms of pickup trucks.

One is a compact pickup truck and the other is a full-size model. One is praised for its luxurious interiors and smooth ride, while the other receives high marks for reliability. So how did they both end up with five-star consumer review ratings?

It’s no surprise that the 2021 Ram 1500 pickup truck earned 5 stars

The 2021 Ram 1500 pickup truck is a winner. It’s been the MotorTrend truck of the year for three years running, with the latest award bestowed upon the Ram 1500 TRX model. This truck offers a range of trim levels and available packages and add-ons. The consumer reviews on Cars.com all but rave about this full-size pickup truck.

It’s a great luxury pickup in top trims, but also offers more work-oriented models. This is a full-sizer that virtually has something for everyone, so it’s no surprise that the general consensus from consumers ranks this one up top. Technically, the average rating comes to 4.8 out of 5 stars, but the visual we get from Cars.com shows it as a 5 star consumer review rating.

In fact, people seem to be absolutely head over heels for the 2021 Ram 1500 pickup truck. One owner calls it a “dream come true.” There are a couple of reviews in which owners had bad customer service experiences. One even says “too bad I didn’t buy a Ford F-150.” But the overwhelming majority of the reviews reveal a far more positive verdict from consumers.

“I have owned Ram trucks since 1997 but the new body style and the interior is over the top. It has all the features that I wanted and a few that I didn’t know that I wanted but now can’t live without.”

People actually love the 2021 Nissan Frontier too

Despite critics like MotorTrend rating the 2021 Nissan Frontier lowest in its class, people who bought a 2021 Nissan Frontier actually love it. The consumer reviews on Cars.com show that this truck is more satisfying than expected. Of course, if you want a top of the line full-size luxury pickup truck the 2021 Ram 1500 is the way to go.

But if you just need a truck that goes and can handle light utility work the 2021 Nissan Frontier may fit the bill better than you think. It’s not trendy, and it doesn’t offer cutting-edge modern tech. But it does come with good reliability ratings and a new V6 engine that’s enjoyed a little beta run on the 2020 and 2021 Frontier models––in order to prepare for the 2022 Frontier release.

Owners of the 2021 Nissan Frontier give it 5 out of 5 stars. They say things like “This Nissan Frontier was just what I was looking for in size and functionality.” The consumer reviews reveal what Frontier buyers are interested in as well as the fact that the 2021 Nissan Frontier delivers on those fronts.

How did they get the same consumer rating?

RELATED: TacoTuesday: Does the Toyota Tacoma Still Dominate Compact Pickup Truck Sales?

This comes down to two major factors. First off, because these trucks represent two entirely different segments within the pickup truck market, buyers of the Frontier are not looking for the same truck as buyers of the Ram 1500. So naturally, these buyers will rate their pickup trucks on a different scale.

The other primary reason for this interesting find in the Cars.com consumer reviews is that there are only three consumer reviews for the 2021 Nissan Frontier. The 2021 Ram 1500 on the other hand has collected 73 consumer ratings. So yes, these trucks both received high consumer ratings. But they aren’t really comparable in any real way. While each model has its highs and lows, they are so different that these consumer reviews don’t exactly draw any actual parallels between these two pickups.
