Lincoln is doing well with its 2022 model year by updating every SUV in the lineup. There are plenty of significant improvements coming from minor changes that could be important to you. The three-row Aviator SUV was a finalist for the 2020 SUV of the Year, and the Navigator and Corsair are better than ever for 2022. Here are the 2022 Lincoln SUV lineup changes.

2022 Lincoln Aviator changes

2022 Lincoln Aviator | Lincoln

Firstly, as far as paint options go, a few of the selections from 2021 are no longer available. Iced Mocha, Ocean Drive Blue, and Red Carpet have been discontinued for the 2022 model year. With any subtractions, there must be an addition, right? Newly available on the 2022 Lincoln Aviator are the following colors; Bronze Smoke Metallic, Flight Blue Metallic (exclusively available on the Grand Touring Aviator), and Gilded Green Metallic. These new paint colors are unique and will change the look of the Aviator to be a little more vibrant.

Most importantly, a brand new Premium package is now available with the Lincoln Aviator that adds a few different things. 20-inch wheels and a panoramic roof highlight the package and add style to the SUV. A Monochromatic package is also available on the Aviator Reserve in Asher Gray, Infinite Black, and Pristine White, which will add 22-inch wheels and exterior body-color details. The remaining upgrades are part of packages that existed in 2021, instead of newly added ones.

Each option from the 2021 Convenience package is now a standalone upgrade, so it can be added to any Aviator version. The Illumination package now includes LED foglights, excluded from the 2021 model year. Finally, the Grand Touring and Aviator Reserve now have wireless charging as standard, and the phone-as-key capability is now part of the Reserve I and Grand Touring I packages.

2022 Lincoln Nautilus changes

Not too much has changed for the Nautilus, rumored to be discontinued sooner than later.  For the 2022 model year, Bronze Smoke Metallic, Gilded Green Metallic, and Chroma Caviar (Black Label exclusive) newly enter as available colors. Consequently, Artisan Blue, Green Gem, Iced Mocha, Red Carpet, and Chrome Elite Copper are no longer available for the Lincoln Nautilus.

The Premium package, available on the base Nautilus and coming standard on the Reserve and Black Label, includes a power tilt/telescoping steering column, garage door opener, built-in navigation, and 18-inch wheels. Upgrade the Reserve model to include the Luxury package featuring phone-as-key capabilities, a 13-speaker Revel premium audio system, and a hands-free power liftgate.

What’s new with the 2022 Lincoln Corsair?

A new Luxury package enters the fray. It includes a heads-up display and a 13-speaker Revel audio system. You’ll need either the Reserve or Grand-Touring Corsair to be able to upgrade it with the Luxury package. The Elements and Technology packages from 2021 are now the Elements Technology package. The package now combines both into a single package.

As far as color updates, Artisan Blue, Burgundy Velvet, and Iced Mocha are discontinued, and Bronze Smoke Metallic, Elite Blue Metallic, and Ocean Drive Blue Metallic will replace them.

Big changes for a big ride, what’s new with the 2022 Lincoln Navigator?

The most significant changes for the entire Lincoln SUV lineup come with the brand new Navigator. Attempting to compete with other vehicles in its class, the Navigator was due for a few decent upgrades that would put it back near the top. Since large SUVs like the Infiniti QX80 announced massive upgrades, Lincoln knew it had to do something to keep the Navigator fresh.

Newly added to the Navigator is Lincoln ActiveGlide, a semi-autonomous system similar to Ford BlueCruise. Front and rear styling on the interior is completely updated, and a 13.2-inch center touchscreen is now included. Now available are Central Park and Invitation themes for the Black Label, not to mention second-row massage chairs. You read that correctly. Sit in the second row of the Lincoln Navigator and get a massage during an entire road trip. The perfect vehicle for a long family trip.

The entire Lincoln SUV lineup has been reworked for the 2022 model year. With new colors and features, Lincoln attempts to pull more attention away from the competition in the 2022 model year. According to GoodCarBadCar, Lincoln’s sales were down 5.98% from 2019 in 2020, and it hopes to not let that happen again. We predict the Navigator will do well in 2022. With the demand for a large SUV and the new features, it looks like a perfectly timed updated luxury model.

The new 2022 Subaru WRX dropped last week, and it was a long time coming for Subaru. However, fans of the vehicle are not thrilled. Which pieces of the 2022 WRX disappointed the general public the most? All of it, except that it will get a manual transmission option.

Where is the horsepower hiding on the 2022 Subaru WRX?

2022 Subaru WRX | Subaru

Subaru announced the new WRX on social media last week. After much fanfare, the reception from the public was lackluster at best. The 2022 Subaru WRX offers 271 hp from the turbo boxer engine. Unfortunately, that’s only three extra horsepower over the latest version. Though Subaru never explicitly said there would be more horsepower, a three-horsepower increase is relatively small.

Such a slight horsepower increase means aftermarket changes are going to be a massive deal for the WRX. Most fans of the car were probably going to go that route anyway, but it would have been nice not to need it so much.

The plastic cladding is offensive on the 2022 Subaru WRX

RELATED: Can We Get a Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness Edition Next?

There appears to be quite a bit of plastic on the new WRX. It distracts from the vehicle’s design and makes it look ready to plow snow from the streets. The plastic probably serves a purpose, but whatever purpose that is, it’s not worth it. Some were calling the WRX a Pontiac Aztek or a Nissan Pathfinder due to the amount of plastic. Perhaps an extra 30 hp would have given the automaker a bit more wiggle room for plastic, but that didn’t happen. The Solar Orange Pearl paint combined with the cladding makes it look like a pumpkin on wheels.

The Subaru Performance Transmission or continuously variable transmission (CVT)

The new 2022 Subaru WRX
The new 2022 Subaru WRX | Subaru

For whatever reason, the non-manual WRX got all of the cool features. This seems to be the biggest gripe people have with the new car. Subaru calls the Subaru Performance Transmission, but it is basically a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Subaru says the new Subaru Performance Transmission has quick up and downshifts and makes the driving experience superior. It offers Comfort, Normal, and Sport settings, but thus far, it has not impressed.

The manual option won’t get the Recaro seats, better suspension, or all-wheel drive. It forces people to pick between the manual transmission with nothing and a CVT with many upgraded features. Why can’t the manual transmission get cool upgrades? Subaru has said that most buyers want a manual transmission, but it is catering to the other side.

The WRX is still a good vehicle

After all of the buildup, the 2022 Subaru WRX was a bit of a letdown. The car is fine for those just looking to drive in a Subaru but isn’t good enough for enthusiasts. However, the new WRX will probably sell just fine. It isn’t the most exciting vehicle hitting the market in 2022, but it certainly isn’t the worst option either. Subaru makes a reliable vehicle, and the 2022 WRX will likely fill that need.

The Acura TLX is a prime example of affordable luxury. They start at $37,500, and with that comes decent power, a comfortable interior, adequate gas mileage, and plenty of room. Honda started making the TLX in 2015 as a follow-up to the Acura TL, a four-door luxury car that ended its tenure on this Earth in 2014 with a 3. 7-liter V6 with 305 horsepower and all-wheel-drive.

It could have a manual transmission and weighed as much as 3,873 pounds. They were always comfortable, had decent acceleration, solid braking, and responsive steering. The TLX continues this tradition, with more Honda excellence in the way of reliability, power delivery, and overall delivering a pleasant driving experience. But is it worth the extra scratch?

An impressive Type-S variant

2021 TLX TYPE S | Acura

The TLX just jumped into a new generation this model year, with two engine options. The first is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, making 272 horsepower, which is a lot. Buyers can opt for the Type-S variant, which sports a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 making 355 horsepower. The Type-S only comes with all-wheel-drive, but 70-percent of the power can be sent to the rear wheels. The TLX Type-S also has a stiffer suspension and four-piston Brembo brakes in the front.

The TLX uses the patented Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). It’s a sophisticated system that redirects engine power depending on weight distribution, traction, driver inputs, and the general environment. It does this with a computer that constantly monitors the car’s wheel speed, steering angle, lateral g-force, and yaw. While cruising, the SH-AWD sends up to 90-percent of the power to the front wheels to maximize fuel efficiency. Likewise under acceleration through a corner, that power is redirected to the rear wheels.

AcuraWatch is included

2021 TLX TYPE S | Acura

As you can imagine the TLX comes with all the usual safety refinements. Adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist are among the best safety features, all part of the AcuraWatch suite which comes standard. It has new features as well, including traffic sign recognition and a driver awareness monitor. The TLX even earned a five-star rating from the NHTSA.

Reliability is dialed in

2021 TLX Advance | Acura

Being part of the Honda family, the TLX is extraordinarily reliable and has been since its 2016 model. The 2015 TLX was wrought with transmission problems, where it would shift into neutral, or not be able to shift into park. Owners complained about the car jerking between gearshifts, and hesitation.

Grinds and gear slippage were also problems with this model year. Beyond transmission problems, the 2015 model had issues with its engine and brakes. Thankfully, Honda seems to have ironed out the TLX’s little idiosyncrasies as of late, with hardly an accusatory finger pointed in the last four years.

All in all, the TLX is a fantastic buy for someone looking into entry-level luxury sedans. It’s reliable, comfortable, safe, provides great power, and outright invades the affordable sector. If buying used makes more sense, then that’s completely reasonable as well, though they do seem to hold their value. A TLX that’s a few years old still costs around $30,000, but as is proven, it’s well worth it.
