The 2021 Jaguar I-Pace and 2021 Porsche Cayenne are rivals in a class stacked with high-quality luxury SUVs. Yet even with all of their positive attributes, the Jaguar I-Pace isn’t quite as good as the Porsche Cayenne. Consumer Reports rates each of these SUVs in a variety of categories, including giving them each a road test and evaluating their safety equipment. A comparison of what Consumer Reports shows what the Cayenne has that the I-Pace is lacking.

2021 Porsche Cayenne | Porsche

The Porsche Cayenne destroys the Jaguar I-Pace’s overall score

The Cayenne scores a respectable 81 overall, while the I-Pace only gets a 59. The Cayenne’s road test score is higher too, at an 87 to the I-Pace’s 82. Despite this, the I-Pace is slightly quicker off the line, going from 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds. It takes the Cayenne 6.5 seconds.

The Cayenne’s braking is better. It can brake from 60 mph on dry pavement in 131 feet. On wet pavement that becomes 140 feet. The I-Pace can brake from 60 mph on wet pavement in 136 feet and dry pavement in 142 feet.

Safety in the Cayenne is better

Consumer Reports recommends a slew of advanced safety features that car shoppers should look for when car shopping. These include forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking at city and highway speeds. Lane-keeping assistance, lane departure warning, and pedestrian detection are also important. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are other safety features which are becoming more common and are important.

Rearview cameras are standard in all new cars. You should also look for anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, and daytime running lights.

The 2021 Porsche Cayenne comes standard with nearly all of these features. The exceptions are lane-keeping assist and blind-spot warning, which are optional. Unfortunately, rear cross-traffic warning isn’t available.

The 2021 Jaguar I-Pace also comes standard with almost all of the recommended safety equipment. Standard in the I-Pace is forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking for the city, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and blind spot warning. It also has rear cross traffic warning, a rear view camera, anti lock brakes, traction and stability control, and daytime running lights. Emergency braking for the highway and blind spot warning are optional in the I-Pace.

Neither the IIHS nor the NHTSA have crash-tested the 2021 Porsche Cayenne or the 2021 Jaguar I-Pace.

The 2021 Porsche Cayenne has a better reliability rating

Consumer Reports gives the 2021 Porsche Cayenne a 3/5 for its predicted reliability. Although there are no reliability ratings for 2020, 2019 shows an average reliability rating. Problem spots in the 2019 include the engine minor, brakes, and power equipment.

Despite this mediocre reliability rating, Porsche Cayenne owners seem to love their SUVs. The owner satisfaction score is a 4/5. Most notably, the driving experience and comfort are a 92. Styling receives an 85. Value, however, is just a 35.

Consumer Reports gives the 2021 Jaguar I-Pace just a 2/5 for its predicted reliability. There isn’t any additional data available about why they gave it such a low score. The 2021 Jaguar I-Pace has an excellent owner satisfaction score, at a 5/5.

It seems that while the 2021 Porsche Cayenne has a better overall rating, the 2021 Jaguar I-Pace is still a solid SUV. I-Pace owners are certainly happy with their SUV.

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz is the unexpected choice for a modern pickup truck, and upon first glance, it probably looks nothing like you’d expect it to. The modern design choices tie in the aspects we recognize Hyundai for a while, giving the pickup next-level styling cues and body lines that make it a competitive and surprisingly striking option, especially if you don’t want something as common and already popular as the Ford F-150 or similar trucks from competitors. The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz is a pickup truck at first glance, but it’s actually classified as a sports adventure vehicle, SAV, which may intrigue potential buyers.

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz SAV, or really, pickup truck, is smaller than most standard pickups, classifying it as more of a compact pickup as it is significantly short than competitive midsized models by around 10 to 15 inches — though it still has an incredibly useful bed. What sets it apart from most traditional pickup truck designs and moving it officially into the column of SAVs is the basic structural design, where the Santa Cruz skips out on the more common pickup truck body-on-frame composition for a unibody construction. If it looks at all familiar, it is because it shares a lot with the company’s already familiar SUV crossover option, the Hyundai Tucson. In fact, upon first glance, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz almost looks like a sportier Tucson with a truck bed.

Notable design features and modern technology

The headlight and taillight designs are undoubtedly the most unique exterior choices for the 2022 Hyund Santa Cruz in a way that sets the car apart from the competition and makes the compact pickup look incredibly modern. If you weren’t familiar with the Santa Cruz headlights in the dark, you would stop and take a second look trying to figure out what vehicle they belong to, as they are unlike that of any pickup truck on the road today, with the headlight spread out into distinctly individual strips rather than one headlight housing with a bulb. They integrate well with the design of the front grille, continuing the lines in a way that looks less conspicuous during the day and strikingly contemporary during the night.

What to expect from the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz

The 2022 Hyundai Cruz is set up for success with its reasonable starting price of $25,175, and while you may not expect much for that price, this spunky and modern pickup offers quite a bit. Of course, the interior isn’t exactly classified as luxurious, but it is comfortable, well-designed, and endowed with a lot of high-tech features like option 10.25-inch high definition touch-screen infotainment system that matches the large driver’s display screen. The standard 8-inch infotainment system is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and, of course, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz comes with a lot of the standard safety features drivers are looking for from new cars, such as:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Lane-keeping assistance
  • Driver-attention warning

From movies to real life, motorcycles have long been a symbol of being cool. With a range of makes and styles, there is a bike to suit anyone’s preference. But having a stock motorcycle just doesn’t cut it for some. That’s where customizing shops step in to take a cool motorcycle and make it even cooler. So what is Workhorse Speed Shop, and what does it have to do with bikes from Indian Motorcycle?

Customizing motorcycles is nothing new. It hails back to the days of hot rods and custom cars in the 1950s and 1960s. The custom bike builder responsible for jettisoning this craft into the worldview is renowned builder Arlen Ness. According to The Mercury News, Ness was known as “the king of custom motorcycles,” and his appreciation for hot rod cars informed his signature chopper-style creations in his motorcycles.

At that time, Ness built custom parts for bikes himself, the Mercury News mentions. He sold his first custom bike in the early 1970s and later built showpiece motorcycles from his Dublin, California shop for decades until his death in 2019.

More recently, television shows in the last 20 years brought the process of building custom motorcycles to a broader audience. Shows like American Choppers highlighted the skills of builders and shops like Jesse James’ West Coast Choppers.

According to Discovery Go, James started out making custom bikes in his mom’s garage. Some of the wild designs featured on the show included a liberty-themed motorcycle made with actual copper from the Statue of Liberty and other awesome themed bikes like dragons and crazy spider web designs.

Builders like these showcase the following and desire people have for cool motorcycles, built to all kinds of preferences.

What is Workhorse Speed Shop?

From drag bikes to racers, Workhorse Speed Shop takes motorcycle custom builds to another level. According to Bike EXIF, the builder behind the Belgium-based shop is Brice Hennebert, who previously worked with Kruz Company.

Workhorse Speed Shop reports that Hennebert works in custom aluminum fabrications where the only limit is the client’s imagination. He’s worked with different makes, notably Indian Motorcycle.

As Thunder Press discusses, in 2019, Hennebert created the Indian X Workhorse Appaloosa V1.0, based on the Indian scout bobber 1200, for the Sultans of Sprint drag sprint challenge. According to Workhorse Speed Shop, this custom build features a full aluminum body, shaped by Workhorse, as well as a 7020 aluminum swingarm. It’s also nitrous oxide charged along with a host of other mods like an Ohlins racing suspension.

Workhorse also made the Appaloosa V2.0, based on the Indian Scout, for the Baikal Mile Ice Speed Festival in Russia. This motorcycle has a cutting-edge design down to its spiked Dunlop tires.

Workhorse Speed Shop’s upcoming pair of Indian FTR builds

The latest creation slated to come from Workhorse is a pair of Indian FTRs commissioned by two brothers. These inspired rides draw from two unique design styles. According to auto evolution, one motorcycle, dubbed the Black Swan, will be a road bike based on 1990s sports bikes. Thunder Press adds that it will feature lots of carbon fiber to up the cool factor and reduce weight.

The second bike, dubbed the FTR AMA, is like a war tank, says auto evolution. It continues that the bike draws from the Lancia Delta HF and will don Martini Racing livery, a classic racing icon.

Like Workhorse’s other builds, the two bikes will have Ohlins suspension, Beringer brakes, and Akrapovic exhaust. There is not a set release date for the builds as of yet. Hennebert and Workhorse have released several in-progress photos, showcasing just snippets and parts of the build.

Even though the 2021 Mazda CX-9 and 2021 Dodge Durango are midsize SUVs with lots of advantages to each, the Mazda CX-9 is a far better choice. Consumer Reports rates each of these SUVs according to categories including a road test, safety features, and reliability, and the CX-9 comes out on top of the Durango.

2021 Mazda CX-9 | Mazda

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 and 2021 Dodge Durango have wildly different overall ratings

Consumer Reports gives the Mazda CX-9 a very good 80/100, while the Durango only gets a 59. However, the Durango’s road test score is slightly higher; an 83 to the CX-9’s 79. What’s behind those scores?

Consumer Reports gives the 2021 Dodge Durango a 4/5 for its acceleration. It takes 8.3 seconds to go from 0 to 60. The Mazda CX-9 is slightly faster, reaching 0 to 60 in 7.9 seconds.

Routine handling in the Durango gets a 3/5, while emergency handling gets a 2/5. The Dodge Durango’s max avoidance speed is 48 mph. The Mazda CX-9 is slightly better. It gets a very good 4/5, while emergency handling gets a 3/5. The Mazda CX-9’s max avoidance speed is 50 mph.

The Dodge Durango gets a great 4/5 for its braking. It can brake from 60 mph on dry pavement in 134 feet and 150 feet on wet pavement. This is better than the CX-9, which gets a 3/5 for its braking. It can brake from 60 mph on dry pavement in 139 feet and 143 feet on wet pavement.

The Mazda CX-9 comes with way more safety features

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 comes standard with a decent amount of safety features. Forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking for the city and highway, lane departure warning and lane keeping assistance, blindspot warning, rear cross traffic warning, and pedestrian detection are all standard in the 2021 Mazda CX-9. So are a rear view camera, anti lock brakes, traction control, stability control, and daytime running lights.

The 2021 Dodge Durango comes with disappointingly few safety features. Only rear-view camera, anti-lock brakes, traction control, and stability control are standard in the 2021 Dodge Durango. Everything else is optional, with the exception of pedestrian detection, which isn’t even available.

The CX-9 also has better crash test ratings

Both the IIHS and NHTSA have crash-tested the 2021 Mazda CX-9. The IIHS gives it all good ratings. The NHTSA gives it five stars for overall frontal crash and all of the side crash tests, including the side-pole test. The overall frontal crash, overall frontal crash-driver and overall frontal-passenger tests are four stars. The rating for both the 2WD and 4WD rollover is four stars.

Crash-test ratings in the 2021 Dodge Durango aren’t perfect. While the moderate overlap, side crash and roof crush are good, the front small overlap on the driver side is only marginal. There are currently no front small overlap, passenger side ratings, or rear crash ratings.

The NHTSA gives the 2021 Dodge Durango four stars for overall crash, overall frontal-crash, and overall frontal-crash on the driver and passenger sides four stars. Everything else gets five stars, except for the rollover ratings. The 2WD rollover rating is four stars, while the 4WD rating is just three stars.

If you’re torn between the 2021 Mazda CX-9 and the 2021 Dodge Durango, the choice is pretty clear. Although the Durango has a pretty solid road test score, its lack of safety features and mediocre safety ratings keep it from being as good as the CX-9.
