With Tesla’s recently announced plans to open up its Supercharger network to other electric vehicles, it’s no surprise that the Tesla Supercharger network is expanding. Currently, Tesla’s Superchargers are plentiful, while electric vehicles charging stations by independent charging companies are somewhat more difficult to find. Tesla’s move will increase the ability for all electric vehicle owners to charge their vehicle, and may lead to an increase in the number of electric vehicles on the road.

Tesla already has more charging stations than any other electric vehicle charging company

If you have a Tesla, you already know that it isn’t too difficult to find a Supercharger. Tesla is very careful and intentional with their Supercharger placement, putting them in spots where large number of Teslas tend to be. According to Electrek, Tesla had 26,900 chargers at 2,965 charging stations around the world.

While this number may sound like a lot, Superchargers can get pretty busy. This is especially true during winter months in cold climates, when electric vehicles have less range. To combat this, Tesla has taken several initiatives, including setting charging limits, charging idle fees, and offering discounts to charge in off-peak hours. Still, allowing all electric vehicles to charge at Tesla’s Superchargers won’t help the crowding problem, and Tesla is taking action.

Tesla is on a major hiring spree

In order to get ahead of the projected demand once Tesla opens up its charging network, Tesla is on a major hiring spree. They’ve been posting job listings for Supercharger designers, so that they may construct new Supercharger sites.

According to a map shared by Electrek, Tesla plans on expanding Supercharger sites, particularly in cities and other urban areas. Electrek notes that the amount of Superchargers in cities like Los Angeles and Houston will nearly double.

The advantage to Tesla is multifaceted. They will certainly benefit from advertising the Tesla experience at their Superchargers. They may also benefit from a government incentive. The government just passed $7.5 billion for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The caveat is that it go to charging stations that allow charging of more than one type of vehicle.

When will Tesla open up its network to other EV’s?

Tesla plans on opening up its network to other electric vehicles later on in 2021. Initially it wasn’t clear exactly how other electric vehicles would utilize Tesla’s Superchargers. While in Europe EV chargers are a standard size, that isn’t the case in the United States. That means that Tesla’s Superchargers use a different charger than those of other electric vehicles, and an adapter will be necessary.

At first it wasn’t clear whether Tesla would supply adapters at their Supercharger sites, or if car manufacturers would need to make their own. Now the plan is for adapters to be available. All owners of other EV’s would need to do is to download the Tesla app to be able to use the Supercharger.

With the Tesla Supercharger network expanding, it’s hopeful that all EV owners will benefit. Decreasing range anxiety by increasing electric vehicle charging access will allow more people to charge their electric vehicles, and may help those on the fence about EVs feel comfortable buying an electric vehicle.

Consumer Reports felt that the 2021 Acura TLX didn’t live up to the TLX name when it came down to it. It offered some safety features and an alright fuel economy, but the 2021 Audi A4 was more well-rounded overall. Plus, the 2021 Volkswagen Arteon isn’t a bad compact car choice either.

Consumer Reports felt the 2021 Acura TLX fell short

Consumer Reports: Avoid the 2021 Acura TLX, Buy the 2021 Audi A4 Instead | Acura

When it came to the 2021 Acura TLX, Consumer Reports thought it didn’t live up to the previous generation. The overall score was only 56 out of 100, and the predicted reliability was below average. The predicted owner satisfaction was also below average. The TLX came in at 13 out of 17 on the list of luxury compact cars, only in front of the 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia.

This compact car averaged about 23 mpg overall. Consumer Reports found that the 2021 Acura TLX accelerated well, had a quiet transmission, and a comfortable front seat. The infotainment system was hard to use and unintuitive. Acura included forward collision warning (FCW) and automatic emergency braking (AEB) standard, but blind-spot warning (BSW) only came with an upgraded technology package.

Price Range: $37,500 – $53,100

The 2021 Audi A4 is a better alternative

Consumer Reports says the 2021 Audi A4 is one of the best cars nobody buys. It came in first on the list of luxury compact cars and had above-average predicted reliability. The predicted owner satisfaction was average. CR still found it to be a well-rounded sedan with responsive handling and 27 mpg overall. All-wheel drive is standard, as is FCW and AEB. Blind-spot warning and pedestrian detection are optional.

The 2021 Audi A4 does have two recalls. The first recall is related to seatbelts, and the second is for a broken lug nut in the suspension. It is a good idea to follow up with these to ensure the issues have been fixed.

Price Range: $39,100 – $44,600

Take a look at the 2021 Volkswagen Arteon

Consumer Reports calls the Volkswagen Arteon an “under-the-radar” alternative to the 2021 Acura TLX. It came in fifth on the list of luxury compact cars and had average predicted reliability. The predicted owner satisfaction was also average. The 2021 Volkswagen Arteon handled well on the streets and had an impressive interior. On the Arteon, the hatchback body was more versatile than some of the other compact car trunks.

FCW, AEB, and BSW are included. Pedestrian detection and LKA are optional. The Acura TLX has two recalls. The first is related to a low-pressure tire monitor, and the second is for the back window. This might freeze over in certain circumstances and reduce visibility. However, CR thought the handling, braking, and controls set it apart.

Price Range: $36,995 – $46,995

Right now isn’t the best time to be going to dealerships for test drives, but it might be worth the effort. The 2021 Acura TLX can get expensive as buyers look at the high-level trims, but the 2021 Audi A4 might have more to offer. The 2021 Volkswagen Arteon is right in the middle, price-wise and technology-wise.

Everyone loves that new car shine, but keeping your car cleaned and maintained is easier said than done. Sure, there’s the convenient option of going to get your car washed, paying 10 bucks, and letting the machines go. But those drive-through car washes can actually damage the paint. If you want to wash your car yourself, these are the best tips and techniques to properly wash your car.

Use two, clearly labeled buckets for applying soap and rising

Lots of folks just dip their rag or sponge in one, sudsy bucket. While you could do this, it isn’t actually ideal. By dipping that one sponge into the same soap bucket over and over, all you’re doing is making the soap dirty. Every time you dip it in again, the gunk on your car is ending up in the solution.

Rather than double-dipping, have one bucket full of soap (high-quality car soap, not dish detergent), and one full of just water. Submerge the towel or sponge into the soapy bucket, wipe your car, and then rinse it off so it’s ready to grab fresh soap.

On a similar note, when it comes to water, pressure washing your car might be quick and easy, but it can actually damage the paint. Or rather, it’ll damage the wax that protects the paint itself, causing your car’s color to fade. I know it’s more tedious, but if you care about the color of your car then the extra time to keep it shiny and safe will be worth it. Just use buckets and soap, or in some cases, microfiber towels.

Make sure you have the right towels, and know how to use them

Road Show’s Brian Cooley recently demonstrated how to wash your car without water, though whether you’re using suds or not, the towels and techniques he uses are crucial. For starters, make sure you have microfiber towels, which can be purchased at your local car parts shop. They’re cheap and washable, so you can reuse them time and time again.

Speaking of which, don’t be afraid to use more than one sponge or towel while washing your car. If anything, that’s the better method. Using the same towel for the entire job means all you’re doing is spreading dirt and grime around. If you want that new car shine, you basically need to use a new towel with every section of the car you wash.

The technique Brian used is to fold your microfiber towel into quarters, then use a separate towel to dry. When washing a new section, you use a new quarter of the towel. And once all those quarters are used up, grab a new towel. Then there’s how you wipe it down, which is in a zig-zagged, non-crossing motion. That way you’re pushing dirt away, not rubbing it back into the area you already cleaned.

Don’t let anything of your supplies touch the ground

Well, the bottoms of your buckets and bottles might hit the ground. But if you’re using the same sponge or towel for the whole job, then you shouldn’t let them touch the ground. Otherwise, all you’re doing is contaminating the towel, collecting rocks and asphalt that could scratch your car.

That said, if you’re willing to use multiple microfiber cloths, you don’t have to worry about this problem. Buy a pack of 24 for $10 and, when you’re all done, throw them in the wash. If, however, you drop your only sponge, you’ll want to either 1.) grab a new one or 2.) thoroughly wash it under the kitchen sink (don’t just dunk it into the rinse bottle and hope for the best).

Other simple car washing suggestions

Some of these are pretty standard, but we’ll go over them anyways to make sure you have the cleanest car once you’re all done washing it. First of all, you want to wash from the top down. Don’t just pick a side and go, start from the top, as that way the dirt and grime mixed into any water rushes down, and you don’t just collect that gunk as you aimlessly wash the car.

Another suggestion from NAPA is to not wash your car in direct sunlight. If the sun is beating down on your car, the water will dry faster and could leave spots in the same way glasses leave rings on wooden tables from condensation (always use a coaster).

Going along with not letting your car bake in the sun, don’t just let the car air dry either. Keep using those miracle microfiber cloths to wipe off the water, otherwise, those spots and splotches will dull the paint.

It’s a lot to try and remember, but washing your car can instill a sense of pride that you alone took care of your automobile. It’s the same reason why many people learn to change their own oil, to be one with their machine. But just make sure you’re not doing a half-baked job. Take your time, and use these tips and techniques when washing your car to ensure it keeps that new car shine.

Anyone buying a vehicle will pay special attention to the features. Acquiring an automobile with the features you need allows you to get value for the money. The 2022 Toyota Tundra image teasers reveal a feature that customers may find worthwhile. It makes the all-new Toyota Tundra a rig that off-roaders will find worth considering.

Toyota’s recent press release teasing the new Tundra interior

Most people spend a lot of time worrying about their car or truck exterior, yet the interior is as important because that is where they spend most of their time. The Drive reported, Toyota dropped a new teaser regarding the new interior of the upcoming 2022 Tundra. The cockpit is the focus in the teaser of the next-generation rig.

The first thing you identify is a slick-looking set up in the center console, with four-wheel-drive controls and a rotary switch. Also, what appears like pressable buttons for operating the Multi-Terrain Select, Tow/Haul, Downhill Assist, and Crawl Control systems are available. Additionally, the Toyota-released interior photos confirm that the 2022 Tundra will come with TRD Pro trim.

That is as per the signature red leather and black-and-white-embroidered seats. The other thing you may identify from the teaser includes several high-tech comfort/convenience gadgets incorporated into the next-generation 2022 Toyota Tundra. A wireless cellphone-charging pad is part of those accessories. Also, the truck has a dual-pane moonroof and a sliding rear window.

Toyota is running final tests on the vehicle’s all-new Next-Generation Multimedia System, which has a high-tech 14-inch touchscreen. The updated touchscreen infotainment system will also feature JBL Audio. Although not confirmed, standard drive modes like Sport, Economy, Comfort, and Normal are anticipated. It is expected that off-road-specific settings will be among the selections available inside the Tundra.

Teaser indicates Crawl Control will be in the 2022 Tundra

The exciting thing about the 2022 Toyota Tundra is that it will come with a dial and buttons. Autoblog reported that is a priority for most off-roaders because features like Crawl Control allow them to conquer terrains with obstacles. One needs to consider various aspects to gain value for their money when buying a rig.

Crawl Control is one of the options, which makes that a reality. That means that it is a worthwhile addition to the 2022 Toyota Tundra. The pickup truck will get the Crawl Control and Descent Control functions to hold the vehicle to a low speed and help it climb over obstacles. Although Descent Control is standard in modern off-road trucks, it has not been previously available on the Tundra.

There are no details yet regarding what engine option will power the all-new Tundra. However, the general speculation is that the 2022 Toyota Tundra may get a twin-turbo V6, which is the case with the new generation of Toyota Land Cruiser.

What is Crawl Control, and what other Toyota vehicles feature it?

Toyota Crawl Control functions the same way cruise control does but is off-road-focused. The system’s design prioritizes handling vehicle acceleration and speed over different terrain conditions. It allows the driver to focus on steering while navigating the obstacles ahead. One can use the feature in deep mud, rugged terrain, rock crawls, and sand.

Crawl Control uses sensors to judge driving conditions and adjusts a vehicle’s operation to meet the situation at hand, including acceleration and braking to each wheel. The system is available on Toyota’s off-road automobiles. Apart from Tundra, other Toyota models with Crawl Control include Toyota Land Cruiser, Tacoma, and 4Runner.
