The MG Cyberster was a concept car, but now it’s headed to production. The flashy electric MG will be made by SAIC, a Chinese automotive company. The MG Cyberster was initially unveiled in April of 2021. It was such a hit that SAIC has decided to go forward with bringing it to reality. How did SAIC determine its viability? Via a crowdfunding campaign.

What is the MG Cyberster?

The MG Cyberster is a two-seater convertible that was displayed at the Shanghai Auto show in April. It’s reminiscent of the old school MG roadster that was sold until the 1980s, though this MG will be electric and come with some upgrades. The MG website says that the MG Cyberster will include a gaming cockpit and 5G connectivity.

The MG Cyberster has a sleek design and fancy light-up front grill, which is perhaps the best part of it. It has “hacker blade” wheels and a flattened “kamm tail” rear.

MG says that the Cyberster will have a range of 500 miles and get from 0 to 60 in less than three seconds. Of course this isn’t proven yet, as the MG Cyberster is still just a concept at this point. If it holds true though, it would make it an attractive electric sports car to a lot of people.

The director of SAIC Design Advanced London, Carl Gotham, said: “The Cyberster is a bold statement that looks strongly into MG’s future, touching on our heritage but more importantly building on our technology and advanced design.”

How did crowdfunding make the concept MG Cyberster a reality?

According to Jalopnik, the MG Cyberster went from idea to reality through a sorta-crowdfunding campaign. It’s only a sorta-crowdfunding campaign because it isn’t like SAIC needed the $775,000 raised via $155 payments to SAIC. However, it’s possible that SAIC used people’s willingness to spend the money to fund the project as a gauge on how the MG Cyberster would sell, were it to become mass-produced.

The MG Cyberster will be the first roadster-type vehicle made by SAIC

Autoweek reports that while MG has been popular in Europe since the company was bought by SAIC in the mid-2000s, there haven’t been any roadster-type vehicles in that time. That’s because the market where SAIC operates has different priorities. Instead, “sedans, hatchbacks, and crossovers” make up the bulk of SAIC’s cars.

MG’s website states that they currently have three plug-in EV’s in the UK: the MG Zs EV, the MG5 EV, and the MG HS Plug-In Hybrid. Unfortunately, MGs aren’t sold in the United States, and this means that it’s unlikely that we’ll see any of these EV’s – including the MG Cyberster.

Even if people in the United States won’t directly benefit from the MG Cyberster’s production, that doesn’t mean it won’t be exciting to see it once it’s ready for the road. With its sleek design and fancy grill, it promises to be a stylish car with excellent range. The fact that it is electric makes it feel appropriately relevant in today’s auto market.

We could make a few different puns here about the Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 having an explosive problem, but it’s serious. The Ram 1500 and heavy-duty models are under a recall due to having rupturing airbags.

Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 recall for exploding airbags

2021 Ram 1500 | Ram

There is a major recall from Stellantis for more than 260,000 Ram trucks over the possibility of exploding side-curtain airbags. Some of the trucks may have airbag inflators that were contaminated by moisture during the manufacturing process.

As a result, the inflators could rupture without warning. The airbags don’t even need to deploy before potentially launching debris, including metal shrapnel inside the cab. As a result, people could become injured, and there is a more significant risk of accidents. Stellantis is aware of one explosion, but there are no related injuries.

The recall involves Ram 1500, Classic, 2500, and 3500 trucks from 2015-2020. This includes about 212,373 trucks sold in the United States, 42,532 sold in Canada, 3,802 sold in Mexico, and 4,540 units sold outside North America.

What to do if your Ram truck is at risk

If your Ram 1500, 2500, or 3500 is at risk, you will eventually be notified. Generally, automakers notify owners of vehicles about recalls with letters in the mail. It could be a few weeks before you’re informed.

If you don’t want to wait, you can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHSTA) site here to enter your 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN). Your VIN can be found around the steering wheel or inside of the driver’s side door. Also, it might be listed on your insurance card.

The fix for this issue is straightforward. You will need to return to a Ram dealership to have the faulty airbag inflators replaced for free. You do not have to go to the same dealership where you purchased your truck. Your local dealership will be fine.

Consider making an appointment in advance to avoid long waiting times. If you have any questions, you can contact the Ram customer service department at 1-800-853-1403.

No, this Ram 1500 recall is not related to Takata airbag explosion recalls. Ram’s airbags do not include ammonium nitrate, the ingredient responsible for multiple ruptures in other vehicles. Long-term exposure to high heat and humidity caused these airbags to explode, resulting in injuries and deaths.

Another Takata airbag recall involves units built with non-azide driver inflators (NADI). A faulty seal on the inflator for these airbags is the root of the problem. Without a proper seal, moisture can leak into the propellant used to inflate the bad and cause it to malfunction. As a result, the bags could deploy slowly, be underinflated, or aggressively explode with shrapnel.

But here’s the twist, the faulty inflators may have come from a supplier named Joyson Systems. This company purchased Takata’s assets after the company declared bankruptcy and is related to another recall by General Motors that involves 400,000 trucks due to a similar issue.

Please don’t hesitate to have your Ram 1500, 2500, or 3500 truck checked out. This is a potentially dangerous issue that a free maintenance appointment will correct.

Eventually, everything on the road will become electric, or at least carbon neutral. Even a Jeep, so get used to it. But this could be just as much fun, and it is arriving before 2023.

The first all-electric Jeep Wrangler is set to debut by 2023

Jeep Wrangler Magneto EV concept | Stellantis

Though parent company Stellantis has been late to the electrification zeitgeist it is making up for lost time. It has just been announced that the first all-electric Jeep Wrangler is set to debut by 2023. Stellantis needed to announce something soon about electrifying its vehicle lines so as not to seem outdated.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is the brand’s first shot across the electric bow. Not surprisingly, the full run of 2022 hybrids has already sold out. Based on that alone, Jeep now says that 70-percent of sales are expected to be some form of electrification by 2025.

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer will be getting hybrid power soon

Now it is touting the launch of the WL Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrid coming before the end of this year. Both the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be seeing the same power system soon after.

On the heels of those launches, we’ll see the Wrangler EV. If you saw the Jeep Wrangler Magneto concept at the 2021 Moab Easter Safari then you’ve pretty much seen it. And yes, it will have a manual transmission.

In Europe Jeep makes a hybrid Compass and Renegade. And in China, there is a plug-in Commander SUV. So Jeep is more invested in electrification than you might have thought. And Stellantis is not focussing solely on the Jeep brand.

Over at Dodge electrification is on the front burner

Stellantis EV platforms

Dodge is preparing its own electric SUV and Charger EV. They’re slated to be here before 2024. Stellantis has a variety of electric platforms for nearly every size of the vehicle. The Charger EV will ride on Stellantis’ “STLA Large” battery-electric platform.

Stellantis is also preparing for the launch of the Hornet hybrid SUV. It should be in showrooms by 2022. This one will use the Alfa Romeo Tonale platform, based on previous sources.

These new electrified Jeep and Dodge vehicles are just far enough from launch for there to be little info floating around. By this time next year there should be a lot more to chew on, so come back to MotorBiscuit for updates.

Doug DeMuro posted on Twitter about a Toyota Tacoma overland camper build that’s currently for sale on Cars and Bids. DeMuro calls it “prettttty much the coolest Toyota Tacoma ever,” so naturally our interest is piqued. What makes this Toyota Tacoma so cool?

Second Generation Toyota Tacoma | Toyota Newsroom

This overland build is a Taco camper that will have you dreaming of adventure. It’s a second generation 2007 used Toyota Tacoma with low mileage. Plus, the rig is fully modified for ultimate overland capability.

The ‘Coolest Toyota Tacoma Ever’ is a 2007 Taco with only 36,500 miles on the V6 engine

As of this writing, there are three days left to buy this Taco at this Cars and Bids auction. There are already seven bids and the price is up to $20,000. But is it worth it? Yeah, probably.

The 2007 Toyota Tacoma is a 6-speed manual transmission pickup truck with a V6 engine. Plus, it’s been modified all-around for overland adventure. It’s basically the Taco of dreams. This thing takes Toyota’s slogan “built for the endless weekend” to a whole new level.

Essentially, considering the camper set up and overland mods, this used Toyota Tacoma could not only be your next daily driver––it could be your next home. Who needs brick and mortar when they can have a second-gen Taco camper conversion? Even if you don’t want to give up your patch of land or the home on it, this Toyota Tacoma camper will still look sweet in your driveway.

What makes this Taco camper so special?

According to Doug DeMuro, the “modifications to this Tacoma are incredibly useful, and they greatly enhance this truck’s appeal.” But what are the mods? Well first off, there’s upgraded air suspension to handle the extra weight of the build and your off-grid gear. There’s a popup camper and a kitchen that will make it easy to curate full-blown wilderness experiences with your friends, family, or even solo.

There’s also an “accident-free Carfax report” that “shows this truck has been in California since 2009–and it has just 36,500 miles, which is an insanely low figure for one of these.” DeMuro also points out the appeal of combining four-wheel drive with V6 power and a manual six-speed.

This overland Taco is the stuff of the true Taco fan’s dreams. It’s ready for virtually anything in terms of camping, off-roading, overlanding, and just going off the grid in any form. If you like disappearing any time you feel like it, this truck could certainly accommodate that.

A used Toyota Tacoma that still has hundreds of thousands of miles left to give

Legendary longevity lends a certain air of fame to these trucks. Especially with the older versions of this off-road ready pickup, the Toyota Tacoma is known for lasting a long time. Its well reputed reliability and a history of fantastic resale value both add to the big picture.

This truck only having 36,500 miles on it is nearly unheard of for a second-generation used Toyota Tacoma. It literally has hundreds of thousands of miles left on the odometer. Most consider even a Taco with 100,000 or even 200,000 miles to have a decent amount of life left in it.

But this one is practically brand new. From the Emu Dakar leaf springs, ARB front and rear air lockers, a 17-gallon auxiliary fuel tank, to a winch, an Airtop roof-mounted tent, and an ARB fridge on a sliding rack, this used Toyota Tacoma is pretty much one of a kind and ready to take you anywhere.
