Motorcycle crashes are far deadlier than car accidents. Following motorcycle safety tips, such as “ride like you are invisible,” can help you avoid a tragedy. And if you’re unable to evade an accident, safety gear such as helmets and airbag-equipped vests and jackets can help you escape death. But even with safety gear, you should always go to an emergency room to get checked after a crash. As one man in Italy found out, it could save your life.

The motorcycle accident that caused the rider’s heart to rotate inside his chest

File this under “craziest motorcycle accident ever.” In 2014, an Italian man was in a serious motorbike crash and went to the local emergency room. There, doctors found an interesting injury, Live Science reports.

His heart rotated 90 degrees and ended up on the right side of his chest.

If you didn’t know, your heart should be on the left side, and it isn’t supposed to rotate. Doctors determined that a punctured lung had caused air to leak from his lungs and crowd the heart out of its normal position. Thankfully, medical staffers drained the air, and his heart returned to its proper location.

Motorcycles are high-risk vehicles

Exposure and lack of visibility are the top two things that make motorcycles high-risk vehicles. Cars and trucks have difficulty seeing motorcycles due to their small size, which often puts riders’ safety in another drivers’ hands.

In addition, because riders are out in the open and not enclosed in a protective vehicle, any motorcycle accident can be deadly. Getting thrown from the bike without any protection, such as airbags, is a big reason why motorcycles are so dangerous.

How to stay safe on a motorbike

Even though motorcycles carry a high risk, there are many ways to mitigate hazards and stay safe while riding. The number-one tip — ride like you are invisible — is the most important. Don’t assume other drivers see you. Despite modern cars’ advanced safety features, such as blind-spot monitoring, you should never rely on other drivers or their vehicles’ safety features.

While you should ride as if you’re invisible, you can also do things to make yourself more visible, including wearing reflective and bright colors. And always wear motorcycle safety gear, including a helmet, a protective jacket, boots, and pants. Additionally, ensure that your bike is working properly and that you’re comfortable operating it.

If you love riding motorcycles or even the idea of riding them, don’t let this story deter you. Though a rotating heart is definitely dramatic, there’s a reason this man’s story appears in medical journals: It is a rare case. Additionally, according to reports, it appears the driver recovered quickly after doctors drained the excess air from his chest.

The main takeaway from this story is that with high risk comes high reward. Wearing appropriate safety gear, remaining laser-focused on the road and the surrounding environment, and following safety tips, tricks, and rules will help minimize your risk and maximize your reward. And always see a doctor if you’re in an accident. Going to the emergency room might seem like a bother and an expense, but it can save your life.

Red Bull has always been known for pulling off some of the most insane stunts to promote its energy drink. But a recent unauthorized drifting stunt in Kyiv, Ukraine took things a little too far, which put pedestrians in danger and resulted in damages to a UNESCO world heritage site.

Red Bull’s drift stunt was turned down, but they did it anyway

Drifting demonstrations are always a lot of fun to watch. The sideways antics and tire smoke are almost always crowd-pleasers, which is why Red Bull wanted to film a drifting stunt with two cars drifting around a statue in front of the Saint Sofia Cathedral in Kyiv. Unfortunately, the Deputy Mayor, Konstiantyn Usov, turned the energy drink manufacturer down, reports Car Scoops.

But they did it anyway. BYKVU reported that Red Bull proceeded with the stunt without making any effort to secure the area from pedestrian traffic. Additionally, Jalopnik notes that the video was supposed to be for a commercial advertisement that featured Alyona Ayona, a local rap star, in the passenger seat of one of the cars.

“Red Bull did this early this morning endangering dozens of lives. People of the morning were going to work through a large area and were forced to dodge vehicles. The consequences could have been without exaggeration tragic,” wrote Usav, in a Facebook post. “Imagine the drift Red Bull on St. Peter’s square in the Vatican. Or motocross near La Sagrada Familia. How much would the police arrest the villains?”

The stunt resulted in 2,000 square meters of damage

Images from the drift stunt were posted on the Red Bull Ukraine Instagram, which tagged pro drivers Conor Shanahan and Oleksandr Grynchuk, who were the alleged drivers of the drift cars. Sadly, the stunt resulted in 2,000 square meters of damage to the brick pavement during the run. BYKVU also reported that the Red Bull crew tried to clean up the tire marks later that day, but to no avail.

“It will be better than it was,” the crew reportedly stated. However, it’s not looking too good. There are still dark tire marks on the brick pavement and it will take a lot more than elbow grease to get those off. There is reportedly a police investigation underway and Red Bull could be facing charges for disorderly conduct.  The rapper will also be questioned about the incident.

Is this Red Bull’s craziest stunt?

Red Bull has always been known for pulling off some of the craziest stunts to promote their brand, but this unauthorized stunt in Kyiv wasn’t the craziest. Among other stunts like having Robbie Madison jump his motorcycle to the top of the Arc de Triomphe in Las Vegas and back down again, Red Bull also broke records with other stunts. For example, who can forget Felix Baumgartner’s epic skydive from the edge of space?

We can’t. And unfortunately, the residents of Ukraine, Kyiv may not forget this recent Red Bull stunt for a while either. But hopefully, it will all come to a peaceful resolution.

Recall alert: certain Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain compact SUVs have been recalled due to faulty Hankook tires. If left unchecked, the tire tread could separate from the rubber. The affected vehicles could lose control and risk a crash if the tires fail while in motion. Though, fortunately, this recall is rather small.

Only 7,000 Equinoxes and Terrains are impacted, but bring your car in anyways.

According to Kelley Blue Book, only 7,082 Equinoxes and Terrains made from 2021 to 2022 need to go back to the dealer for inspection. From there, mechanics will look at the tire number and, if they’re one of the failure-prone tires, will replace them at no cost. Signs that your Hankook tire is failing include bulges in the tire or harsh vibrations while in motion. However, just because your Terrain or Equinox is riding on Hankook tires doesn’t mean your car is automatically impacted.

Again, only 7,082 GMC Terrains and Chevy Equinoxes have been recalled, and only a handful of those will need to be fixed. While GM hasn’t issued any letters to customers yet, it’s said that they’ll do so starting September 20th. That said, if you’re worried your car is riding on faulty tires, take it into a dealership anyways and they’ll check it out for you.

Are there any other problems with the 2021 to 2022 Chevy Equinox or GMC Terrain?

The only other recall listed on Cars.com is for the 2021 Chevy Equinox, which has a faulty seatbelt. The assembly itself may not have been properly installed. So, in the event of an accident, the occupant may not actually be restrained. In other words, it’d be like driving without a seatbelt on.

This recall began February 6th, 2021, so by now, you’ve likely taken care of it. However, if this is news to you, or you’re buying a used 2021 Chevy Equinox, then you may want to have that looked at. As always, the recall will be of no cost to you, just bring it in.

That said, in terms of reliability, the Chevy Equinox is miles ahead of the GMC Terrain. In recent years, the Terrain’s general durability has seen an upswing, but it hasn’t always been perfect. According to U.S. News, the GMC Terrain got a reliability score of 82 out of 100, while the Chevy Equinox got a 91 out of 100.

Should you buy a Chevy Equinox or a GMC Terrain?

That all depends on luxury. There’s no denying that the two cars are basically twins. They both fall under the same company umbrella, and they both cater to the compact SUV market. But while the Chevy Equinox is an all-around SUV, the Terrain is comfier on the inside.

On top of that, the Terrain is mated to a nine-speed automatic, whereas the Equinox is stuck with just six gears. Their engine options, however, are identical. They start with a 170 horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and can be bumped up to a 2.0L turbocharged engine that knocks the horsepower up to 252. With these two compact SUVs, the devil is in the details. But just be sure to get those recalled Hankook tires looked at if you drive a 2021 to 2022 Chevy Equinox or GMC Terrain.

Just because a car is expensive doesn’t necessarily mean it is safe. Some of the supercars on this list went through rigorous crash testing and did OK in the testing, but companies didn’t release specifics. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) usually test cars for safety, but not these supercars. What are some of the most expensive supercar crash tests? Well, you’d have to crash one to find out.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar crash test

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has one of the most expensive supercar crash tests | Thansis1997 YouTube

Besides the NHTSA and IIHS, the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) is another popular safety test. While these tests undergo rigorous safety testing, that information is usually not released to the public. The $221,580 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG did reasonably well in this supercar crash test shown on YouTube, but no official rating is available.

The elongated hood of the vehicle did well during front impacts, even though the car is relatively small. The fancy gullwing doors protested the crash test dummies and even popped open during the rollover test to allow passengers to escape.

Does the Lamborghini Murciélago recieve a supercar crash test?

The Lamborghini Murciélago costs around $350,000, depending on the age and mileage of the supercar. The NHTSA, IIHS, and Euro NCAP did not release any ratings for the Murciélago. However, that doesn’t mean it was cheap to test.

While the doors on the Lamborghini Murciélago SV are made from steel, the rest of the body is made from carbon fiber. During a front-end impact, the frame and the doors withstood the impact. The crumple area at the front of the Lamborghini crumpled as expected, but the cabin area remained intact. This is even more impressive when you consider that there is no engine in the front, just space for the frunk (front trunk).

No supercar crash testing done on the Bugatti Veyron

A Bugatti Veyron will cost you around $2 million to take home brand-new. Any of the three major companies did not test this Bugatti supercar. What’s the reason for this? Crashing a supercar that many times to get a rating is just too expensive. Bugatti used one vehicle to test the supercar in multiple scenarios.

The company then repairs the vehicle and crash tests it again. Bugatti also has its own crash simulation software that generates data from crashes. This offers the company a more affordable way to test the safety of supercars like the Veyron without breaking the bank. Oh, the irony.

Don’t even think about testing the Koenigsegg Regera

The Koenigsegg Regera is around the $2 million price range like the Veyron. To generate enough data from the crash test simulations, brands need around a dozen or so vehicles for the various scenarios. With Koenigsegg, The supercar maker will make only about 80 of the Regera supercar total.

As you can imagine, Koenigsegg isn’t rounding up a year’s worth of production for crash testing. Like Bugatti, Koenigsegg uses one car for all crash tests and repairs the vehicle each time. No safety ratings have been released for this supercar.

Or the Pagani Huayra, for that matter

Some people might never come across a Pagani supercar on the streets. The Pagani Huayra is one of the rarest vehicles globally, costing around $2.4 million if you can even get your hands on one. The V12 supercar has 791 hp and has not been crash-tested by any of the primary testers. Pagani accidentally crashed a Huayra on a drive one day, and it did fine in the crash. So was some intentional supercar crash testing done? In private, but Pagani didn’t release any specifics.

In the one test found online, Pagani Huayra did OK in the frontal impact crash test. Does that make potential buyers feel better about the safety of the supercar? Probably not.

In conclusion, it seems that the more expensive a car is, the less crash testing it receives. That sounds incredibly counter-intuitive, give the power these supercars have. While the supercar crash test ratings might not be released to the public, it seems the most expensive supercars have private ratings. Hopefully.
