Road trips with friends can create some of the greatest memories of a lifetime. Hitting the open road with a trunk full of stuff, camping at parks, staying at hotels, or visiting people along the way. But all that fun can be ruined if someone steals your stuff, or worse, your car. And with all that constant driving comes the constant reminder that accidents do happen. The solution? Purchase a dash cam.

In the event of an accident, dash cams are the first line of defense

We’ve all seen our share of crazy dash cam videos, but that’s exactly what they’ve been built for. And while I don’t mean to scare you, the longer you drive, the more likely you’re going to crash. According to GreyLaw, the average person gets into four accidents in their lifetime (assuming they live through them all). If you don’t have that camera, you can’t prove innocence or guilt.

That is the kicker, however, as dash cams are typically seen as cold hard proof. If you get into an accident and it’s your fault, refusing to release the dash cam footage may prove you guilty. It’s great if the accident is someone else’s fault, but if it’s not, there’s no way out.

So there’s that added security on the road, no matter where it takes you. But road trips often have overnight stops. And if you have a car full of belongings, you want to make sure they’re safe if you leave your vehicle unattended.

Dash cams can be like a second pair of eyes, watching your car when you’re not around, or if you’re asleep inside of it. This isn’t true of all dash cams, but some can record video even while the vehicle is off. Some things in your car are constantly powered, such as anti-theft systems, which use very little energy.

That said, plugging a dash cam in constantly can drain the life of your battery. It’d be a slow burn, but if you don’t recharge that battery by driving, you may wake up and find it dead. My philosophy on the matter is that, if someone steals the car, there’s no way to get the footage off the camera unless it’s saved to the cloud. But cloud-based dash cams get expensive fast, so which is the best option that won’t break the bank?

Which dash cam should you get?

There’s one particular dash cam that achieves both these goals, continuous recording and parking lot operation, without breaking the bank. It’s the Thinkware F70, and I know this because I just bought one and used it on a 1,000-mile road trip.

It can detect impacts and store the clip in a separate folder, meaning you don’t have to sift through hours of continuous video to find the accident. And, if you choose to have it constantly powered, the F70 will only record when it detects motion, saving some overall battery life. So if you’re in a parking lot, this is great for catching thieves and vandals.

Dash cams aren’t just good for road trips, they keep your car from getting stolen altogether. Thieves can be deterred because of a dash cam’s presence, especially one like the F70, which doesn’t look all that fancy or expensive. And, if hard wired to the car, would be too much of a hassle to steal anyways. Keep all those points in mind when looking for a dash cam, whether it’s the Thinkware F70 or something else, in order to keep your vehicle safe.

There’s no denying it. These days, minivans are making their comeback. In fact, according to CNBC, new car shoppers are finally catching on to just how satisfying new minivans really are. They’re often just as capable as SUVs but tend to offer more cargo and passenger space alike. And when it comes to amenities? Minivans these days are stock full of them. But when it comes to the most satisfying new minivans on the market today? These three models won’t leave you disappointed.

The 2021 Toyota Sienna is a satisfying new minivan

There’s a lot to like about the 2021 Toyota Sienna. In fact, according to Consumer Reports’ data, it’s one of the most satisfying new minivans. The organization even gave it a four out of five predicted owner satisfaction rating. According to Consumer Reports, owners will likely be most satisfied with the new minivans comfort, driving experience, and styling.

Of course, an impressive owner satisfaction rating isn’t all that the Sienna has going for it. When it comes to family-friendly amenities, this new minivan knows just how to please. In fact, this year’s new Toyota Sienna can be had with features like hands-free power sliding doors, four-zone climate control, heated and ventilated seats, a rearseat entertainment system, WiFi connectivity, and Driver Easy Speak.

The 2021 Toyota Sienna is among the safest new minivans too. This year’s model comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which includes driver-assist safety features such as a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, dynamic radar cruise control, and road sign assist. The 2021 Toyota Sienna is also an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica knows just how to please

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Limited AWD S updates the popular S Appearance, introduced in 2017, with new exterior Anodized Ink finishes on the grille surrounds and badging, and a new “Foreshadow” finish on the wheels.

There’s a reason the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is one of the most satisfying new minivans. A few reasons. It’s enjoyable to drive, offers up a comfortable interior, and just looks good. In fact, according to Consumer Reports, the new Chrysler Pacifica is so satisfying that 76% of current Chrysler Pacifica owners would consider rebuying the minivan if given a chance. Not bad, right?

Though, when you think about it, why wouldn’t you want to buy the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica? It’s not only enjoyable to drive, but it’s also one of the quickest minivans on the market today. Opt for the plug-in hybrid version, and Consumer Reports says that the Pacifica is also one of the most fuel-efficient minivans you can buy. And when it comes to cargo space? This minivan features Chrysler’s exclusive Stow ‘n Go second-row seating, making loading and unloading cargo a pretty easy feat.

Not to mention, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica comes stock full of features. It’s not only standard with active noise cancellation technology, but it’s also available with wireless device charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Additionally, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is also available with FamCam interior camera and a rear-seat entertainment system.

Last but certainly not least is the 2022 Kia Carnival, the most satisfying new minivan, according to Consumer Reports. The Kia Carnival is new to the minivan scene, introduced just a few short weeks ago. The new Kia Carnival isn’t like other minivans, however. Instead, this new minivan has positioned itself as an “SUV-minivan mashup.”

As for how satisfying the 2022 Kia Carnival really is? Well, Consumer Reports awarded it a four out of five predicted owner satisfaction rating. Such high marks shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, though. After all, the 2022 Kia Carnival is a new minivan under $35,000 that boasts best-in-class power and cargo space. It can be had with features like a smart power tailgate, wireless phone charger, and more too.

It also comes stock full of safety features so that you and your brood can take on the road ahead with absolute confidence. In fact, standard on this year’s model are sought-after safety features such as auto emergency braking technology, rear occupant alert with ultrasonic sensors, blind-spot detection technology, rear cross-traffic alert and avoidance, lane-keeping & lane following technology, and safe exit assist.

Well, that was fast. It seems like the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz just made its debut, but it’s already rolling into dealerships. The 2022 Ford Maverick is expected to begin making deliveries this fall.

That’s not too bad. The fall is almost here. But the Maverick could be built to order, which can slow the process down. This system allows drivers to see a specific vehicle and trim level at the dealership but prevents them from driving with their new truck the same day.

Instead, buyers will order their trucks and wait for them to be delivered. But Ford is hoping to keep inventories at a 50 to 60 day supply. Also, the hybrid model will only be available online. But in the meantime, you can take the Hyundai Santa Cruz right off the lot.

Which Santa Cruz trim is best?

There are four 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz trims available. The standard engine is a 2.5-liter 1-4 option with 1919 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 2.5-liter turbocharged I-4 engine for 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.

The Santa Cruz SE starts at about $23,990. It includes the base engine and can tow up to 3,500 lbs. An 8-inch color touchscreen infotainment system, Wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto come standard. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a 4.3-foot composite molded bed is included.

The Santa Cruz SEL trim starts at about $27,190 and comes with the standard engine. It comes with standard blind-spot collision avoidance assistance and a proximity key with a push-button start. Plus, an 8-way heated power seat with adjustable lumbar support is included. You also get heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals and the Bluelink Connected Car System.

Upgrade to the Hyundai Santa Cruz SEL Premium for around $35,680. It comes with the more powerful engine and an 8-speed Wet Dual Clutch Transmission with SHIFTRONIC. It includes optional all-wheel drive too. Plus, you get dual automatic temperature control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and shifter. An auto-dimming review mirror with Homelink is also included.

Last but not least, the Hyundai Santa Cruz Limited trim costs about $38,70. The 10,25-inch touchscreen includes navigation, and you get AWD. Feel comfortable in leather seats that are heated and ventilated with a heated steering wheel. It’s available with 20-inch alloy wheels, a blind-spot view monitor, and Bose premium audio.

Can the Hyundai Santa Cruz do truck stuff?

Yes, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz is a tiny buy mighty truck. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 5,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,906 lbs. It can carry more than the Honda Ridgeline, which has a payload capacity of up to 1,583 lbs.

The bed is 19.2-inches deep, and it’s 54 inches wide. It’s just over 4-feet long when the tailgate is closed and over 6-feet long when it’s lowered. The tailgate can also be positioned in the middle to provide support while carrying 4-by-8 sheets of plywood.

An integrated retractable tonneau cover is included, and there is a lockable underfloor storage compartment with drainage plugs. It can be used as a cooler. Plus, there are lockable side compartments on both sides of the bed with a 115-volt outlet.

Toyota cars have been manufactured in America for more than 35 years despite being a Japanese brand. There are currently 10 factories dispersed throughout the country, employing more than 470,000 workers. If “Made in America” is a consideration for you when purchasing a new vehicle, don’t shy away from these popular Toyota brands.

Production of the ever-popular Toyota Corolla began at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi, Inc. (TMMMS) plant in 2011. The $1.2 billion factory sits on 1,700 acres with 2 million square feet of production space. Directly employing close to 2,000 team members. The Blue Springs facility produces approximately 170,000 vehicles annually.

In 2014, the Mississippi plant started exporting Toyota Corolla vehicles to the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. According to Toyota Newsroom, in 2015, the 500,000th Corolla rolled off the Mississippi production line. Two short years later, the “one millionth Mississippi-built Toyota” was made.

Toyota invested $170 million into the production of the 12th generation Corolla in 2018. Included in the expansion plans were a $10 million visitor and interactive training center. Due to the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19), in-person tours of the plant are currently not available. A virtual tour of the Toyota Mississippi Experience Center is available online at the company website.

Toyota’s largest vehicle manufacturing plant

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) is home to “Toyota’s largest vehicle manufacturing plant in the world, annually capable of producing 550,000 vehicles and more than 600,000 engines.”

The sprawling facility, located in Georgetown, Kentucky, opened in 1988 and has produced more than 11 million vehicles. TMMK manufacturers four-cylinder and V6 engines at the plant. The best-selling Toyota Camry and Toyota Avalon are also manufactured here, along with their hybrid counterparts. The Lexus ES350 is also a product of this plant.

In addition to vehicles, TMMK manufactures steering components, cylinder heads, machined blocks, camshafts, crankshafts, rods, axle assemblies, and dies. Operations include stamping, body weld, paint, die manufacturing, plastics, engine and axle machining, and vehicle assembly.

Due to supply chain shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the enormous facility was forced to shut down temporarily. According to Spectrum News 1, “Shutdowns and parts shortages have impacted operations at the plant since the beginning of the pandemic last year.”

The TMMK facility represents a $7 billion investment, with 1,300 plus acres and 8.1 million square feet of manufacturing space. It is the equivalent of 169 football fields under one roof. Virtual tours are currently available.

Production of Toyota pickup trucks, SUVs, and minivans

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas, Inc. (TMMTX) is the production facility for the full-size Tundra and compact Tacoma pickup trucks. Located in San Antonio, the state-of-the-art complex is the “first plant to integrate production facilities for many of our suppliers on the same grounds.” Almost $4 billion has been invested in the Texas plant that employs 2,660 workers. The millionth Toyota pickup truck rolled off the assembly line in 2013.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana, Inc. (TMMI) employs more than 7,000 workers. The Princeton, Indiana production facility produces the Toyota Sienna minivan, Sequoia, Highlander SUVs, and Highlander Hybrid models. More than 400,000 vehicles are assembled annually. TMMI recently completed the 30 millionths U.S.-produced vehicle, the 2021 Sienna Hybrid minivan. Online virtual tours of the facilities are currently available.

There are also Toyota production plants located in Alabama, Virginia, Missouri, and Tennessee. Novato Toyota reported, “In 2018, the automaker built nearly 2 million vehicles at its North American vehicle assembly plants.”
