It shouldn’t be this easy to accidentally sign up for $14,186.25 of Tesla upgrades. But that is what Dominic Preuss was charged after someone borrowed his Tesla. But not intentionally. Preuss is Google’s Director of Product Management.

Owner says he was accidentally charged over $14,000 when his father-in-law double-clicked the shifter

He tweeted, “If you double click the shift panel twice and accidentally engage the Autopilot in the Model 3, you are automatically charged $14,100 if you didn’t previously purchase Autopilot.” He was also tagged for both Autopilot and Full Self-Driving Capability. These aren’t autonomous driving systems. These extra aids add distance control to cruise control and increased steering assistance.

Preuss tweeted that after informing the company he received an email confirmation, the purchase was canceled. But this was the first actual confirmation he received from Tesla. There had been no password prompts, credit card alerts, or notices from them that the purchase had been made.

He was able to cancel the purchase with his Model 3 infotainment center. If this happens to you, going into “manage upgrades” in the menu will get the ball rolling. So there are some issues that Tesla needs to improve upon.

This isn’t the first time a Tesla customer was accidentally charged for an upgrade

There have been other reports of accidentally being charged large fees for upgrades. Another Model 3 owner accidentally bought Autopilot by merely taking his phone out of his pocket to charge it. He was tapped for $4,280. The other downside was that this owner found it harder to get a refund. So the good news is that Tesla is making it easier to get a refund.

There are some that dispute this could happen. They say it is impossible to be charged by double-clicking the shifter is the conventional way of engaging Autopilot. There have also been questions raised about getting a refund through the Model 3’s infotainment center.

Some argue that the only way to order it is by using the phone app or through its website. Hey, we can only report on what we read in forums and tweets. Since the company has no public relations department there is no way to get their side. But while some may dispute how this could happen, there is much evidence Tesla has had issues with charging customers.

Some Tesla buyers were double charged for their cars

In March it was reported that a number of new car buyers found they were double charged for their new Tesla. This happened with the company’s “contactless” delivery system. At a minimum, that’s over $70,000 for at least a $38,000 base Model 3. Some have complained they received overdraft fees and finance charges as a result.

But according to crime prevention expert Dave Excell, duplicate charges are a rather common problem with e-commerce. He told CNBC, “The best thing is to go back to the merchant and let them know an error occurred. Ask them to reverse or refund the money. That should be the easiest way.”

These days, shopping for a new all-wheel drive (AWD) SUV can make for an overwhelming task. With so many new AWD SUVs to choose from, how do you pick the best new AWD SUV for satisfying all of your daily driving needs? The good news is that we have the inside track on the most reliable 2021 AWD SUVs recommended by Consumer Reports. Read on to find out which AWD SUVs are not only reliable but also recommended by the organization.

2021 Hyundai Kona | Hyundai

Say you’re shopping for a new subcompact SUV. If that’s the case, the 2021 Hyundai Kona is the most reliable subcompact SUV recommended by Consumer Reports. In fact, the organization gave this year’s model a five out of five reliability rating, which is nothing short of impressive. Not to mention, the 2021 Hyundai Kona is also available with all-wheel drive. As for how much Hyundai Kona AWD will cost you? You can expect to spend at least $22,450 on a Hyundai Kona AWD.

The 2021 Honda HR-V is also recommended by Consumer Reports. It earned a five out of five predicted reliability rating too. And when it comes to all-wheel drive? This year’s model is available with it. However, all-wheel drive does require an upgrade. Fortunately, that upgrade isn’t all that expensive and will only cost you roughly $1,500.

These compact SUVs have AWD and earned a Consumer Reports recommendation

There are plenty of reliable compact SUVs with all-wheel drive on the market too. Take, for example, the 2021 Kia Sportage. Not only is it recommended by Consumer Reports but the organization also gave it a five out of five predicted reliability rating. Upgrading to all-wheel drive costs approximately $1,500.

And if the 2021 Kia Sportage isn’t quite your style? The 2021 Mazda CX-5 is also recommended by Consumer Reports and earned a five out of five predicted reliability rating. Consumer Reports also gave this year’s model a higher overall score. In fact, while it gave the Sportage an 80 overall score, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 earned an 83 overall score.

The most reliable AWD midsize SUVs of 2021 shouldn’t surprise you

The 2021 Toyota Venza is another AWD SUV recommended by Consumer Reports. The organization also gave it a four out of five predicted reliability rating, which is just short of perfect. The AWD SUV also earned a four out of five predicted owner satisfaction rating. And, while that score isn’t exactly perfect, Consumer Reports’ data shows that 78% of current Venza owners would buy the AWD SUV again.

The 2021 Ford Edge, on the other hand, was given a three out of five predicted owner satisfaction rating. The good news is that Consumer Reports also gave it a four out of five predicted reliability rating, along with an 84 overall score in road tests. As for how much all-wheel drive costs? You can anticipate spending an additional $2,000 for an AWD Ford Edge.

The 2021 Kia Telluride is the most reliable three-row AWD SUV

There’s no beating around the bush here. If you’re in the market for a three-row SUV with all-wheel drive, the 2021 Kia Telluride is the most reliable three-row AWD SUV that’s also recommended by Consumer Reports.

As a matter of fact, the 2021 Kia Telluride earned significantly higher overall scores than many vehicles in its segment, including the 2021 Hyundai Palisade and the 2021 Toyota Highlander. While Consumer Reports gave both SUVs an 84 overall score, the Kia Telluride snagged a 96 overall score. There’s no denying that’s an impressive feat.

Which reliable AWD SUV is right for you?

You’ve got no shortage of options to choose from when it comes to shopping for a reliable AWD SUV that’s also recommended by Consumer Reports. To narrow down your choices, we recommend taking your daily driving needs into consideration. And once you’ve narrowed down your picks? It’s time to get behind the wheel for a test drive.

If you’re a fan of trucks, racing or both, and you haven’t seen Stadium Super Trucks yet, you’re missing out. With Chevrolet V8-powered beasts hitting jumps and ripping around a road course mere inches apart, each race is a high-flying thrill ride. In a few days, the series will run back to back with Indycar at the Music City Grand Prix, from August 6-8, 2021.

What are Stadium Super Trucks?

Veteran off-road racer Robby Gordon started the Stadium Super Trucks (SST) series in 2013. While they resemble Baja Trophy Trucks, they weigh half as much and run a Chevy LS3-based V8 engine with 650 hp. With that much power and a chassis barely longer than a Mazda Miata, things are bound to get rowdy.

Add in 26 inches of suspension travel, and you get what Ice Cube called “three-wheel motion” in the corners. So these trucks basically tripod while sliding sideways around a road course filled with jumps. It’s a formula for intense battles between drivers and ample entertainment for fans.

Where can I watch SSTs in action?

You can experience them in person this weekend at the Music City Grand Prix, if you live near Nashville, Tenn. On each day of the event, Stadium Super Trucks will share the Indycar street circuit downtown. Practice and qualifying starts on Friday, August 6, and there are races Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. CBS Sports Network provides TV coverage, so check your local listings for scheduled airings.

“We’re very excited to add an additional race to our 2021 schedule,” said Stadium SUPER Trucks President Robby Gordon. “The Big Machine Music City Grand Prix is going to be a huge event, as Nashville is known for music and entertainment, and we’re looking forward to bringing the thunder to the streets. In addition to the great racing, our garage area will be open for all fans to stop by and get up close and personal with the trucks.”

Competing on two continents

Headquartered at Gordon’s shop in North Carolina, the SST series travels between Australia and the United States throughout the year. Gordon designed the Stadium Super Trucks himself and owns all of them, according to Road & Track. Drivers rent the vehicles per race or per season, and the series attracts talent from across the motorsports spectrum.

Following the Nashville race, the SSTs will move to Australia for two consecutive events. Races will take place in Sydney August 20-22, and in Perth September 11-12. Afterward, the trucks return stateside for the Grand Prix of Long Beach September 24-26.

The popular Indycar event near Los Angeles served as a testbed for the first Stadium Super Trucks race back in 2013. Since then, Gordon’s creation has injected some much-needed variety and fun back into the motorsports world, and that’s never a bad thing.
