If you’re a car enthusiast, then you have likely daydreamed about owning an exotic car at one point in your life. Maybe you picture yourself driving down the street in a Lamborghini Aventador, waving to every onlooker like a celebrity. Or perhaps, you’ve dreamt of having a 10-car garage filled with every exotic car that your heart desires. But what if you could have access to some of the latest exotic cars without even having to own them?

A supercar subscription is a ticket to your exotic car dreams

Car subscriptions are nothing new, in fact, Volvo has offered a car subscription service for the past year. However, why drive to work in a Volvo when you can do the commute in a Ferrari? Or course, the Volvo might be more comfortable, but I digress.

With a supercar subscription – like those offered by Freedom Supercars and ecurie25 Supercar Club – you can select from a collection of exotic cars and drive one at a time for a designated amount of time. You have to become a member and pay a monthly fee, but it’s better than having to shell out money to buy an exotic car and insure it yourself. Essentially, it’s like a timeshare program, but for high-dollar sports cars.

What kind of exotic cars can you drive?

The two supercar subscription companies that we found both have an array of exotic cars to choose from. If you go with Freedom Supercars, then you’ll get to choose from cars like C8 Corvette, Jaguar F-Type, and Mercedes AMG GT if you opt for the lower tiers. But if you have deeper pockets and want to test out some of the higher-end machinery, then the top tiers unlock cars like Ferrari California, Ferrari 488, Lamborghini Huracan, and even a Rolls Royce Wraith.

Ecurie25 has a tiered system as well. In the lower tiers, you’ll have access to cars like the BMW M2 Performance, Porsche GT4, and the Viper SRT. Unlock the higher tiers, and you’ll be able to drive an Acura NSX, Audi R8 V10, and a Ferrari F12, to name a few. Both companies have an impressive array of cars to suit almost anyone’s taste.

Joining a supercar subscription costs less than half the cost of owning a supercar

After drooling over the list of supercars that can be made available, you’re probably wondering how much it will all cost. Both subscription companies charge a $2,500 application fee upfront, which includes a high-performance driving course so you know how to handle these cars.

For the bottom tiers, both companies charge $1,400 a month, but that can increase to $3,800 a month for those wanting the higher tiers. It sounds pricey, but considering the average lease payment for most supercars is around $1,500 to $2,000 per month (for one car), we would say that it’s a pretty good deal. Keep in mind that insurance is included as well.

As far as locations, both companies reside and offer service in the Houston and Austin, TX, areas. However, they are slated to open more locations in the U.S.

Supercar dreams on an affordable budget

If you can afford the cost of the entry and the monthly payments, a supercar subscription is one of the best ways to make your dreams a reality. Best of all, you don’t need to maintain the cars or even have a 10-car garage to house them all.

If you want a small truck, how tiny do you really want to go? Will the 2022 Ford Maverick satisfy your needs, or will the larger 2021 Ford Ranger be a better fit? Let’s see which truck is the better deal.

The 2022 Ford Maverick vs. the 2021 Ford Ranger

2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid XLT | Ford Motor Company

First, let’s look at prices. You can get started in the 2022 Ford Maverick for $19,995. The 2021 Ford Ranger begins at about $24,820. You can save almost $5,000 with the Maverick, but the Ranger may come with more standard features.

But let’s talk about space. The Ranger is about 11 inches longer than the Maverick and about three inches taller. However, the Maverick provides more space in the backseat. The Maverick has 110.3 cubic feet of passenger volume compared to 97.6 cubes with the Ranger SuperCrew.

The Ford Ranger has a bed that’s 61 inches long with a height of 20.8 inches. The Maverick’s bed is 54 inches long and 16.5 inches tall. But with the optional tubular bed extender, the Maverick’s bed can reach six feet.

Does the Maverick or Ranger have more power?

The 2022 Ford Maverick comes with a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor that generates 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. This hybrid powertrain should get an estimated range of 40 mpg.

But you can only tow up to 2,000 lbs with the hybrid powertrain, and it’s only available in front-wheel drive. For all-wheel drive, upgrade to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 lbs and 277 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, you can tow up to 4,000 lbs.

The 2021 Ford Ranger has a single 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine option. It gets an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway. The 2.0-liter engine in the Maverick may get 26 mpg combined.

With the Ranger, you can tow up to 7,500 lbs and carry a payload of up to 2,128 lbs. The Maverick can carry a payload of up to 1,500 lbs. So, the Ranger is the more robust option for towing and hauling.

The Ford Ranger has a more traditional body-on-frame platform. This allows it to be more capable of off-roading. The Maverick is available with AWD, which can still tackle slippery conditions. As a result, the Maverick may have a smoother and sportier ride.

Does the Ranger or Maverick have better features?

2021 Ford Ranger | Ford

The 2022 Ford Maverick features a plush, modern interior that’s brand new. The 2021 Ford Ranger is starting to show its age with an older interior design. Both trucks offer dual-zone automatic climate control and power front seats.

Both trucks come with a 10-inch touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. They both have a standard Wi-Fi hotspot too.  You can opt for wireless phone charging in the Maverick.

Standard forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking comes with both trucks. You can add blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. The Maverick hasn’t been tested for safety ratings yet.

If you want a comfortable truck, the Maverick will do. It may serve as the nicer daily driver. But for towing and hauling or off-roading, the Ranger takes the cake. We can’t wait to see how the Maverick performs on the road for a better comparison.

The dog days of summer are here with sweltering temperatures that require cars‘ air conditioners on full blast. Unfortunately, some people are all too familiar with a broken AC, making driving in extreme heat miserable. Maybe your car is too old to justify spending the money to fix your AC, or maybe you don’t have the cash to get the work done. Whatever the reason, driving with a broken AC is no fun.

Though nothing replaces cold air blowing on a hot summer day, several car air conditioning alternatives can help when your legs are sticking to your seat.

How to determine if your car’s air conditioning is broken

Broken car AC can be an easy and relatively inexpensive fix, but sometimes it can end up costing thousands to repair. Many drivers choose to ignore the problems or look for car air conditioner alternatives to stay cool.

According to CarGurus, “A properly functioning AC system should be able to cool the air in your car at least 40 degrees.” If your car isn’t cooling down and you feel warm air coming through the vents, the air conditioning system might be on its last leg.

Other signs of broken car AC include squealing or knocking from under the hood when you turn the air conditioner on or off. Even if cold air is still blowing, this could indicate the compressor is not functioning properly.

When you start noticing problems with your car’s air conditioning system, seek the help of a certified service technician, and resist the temptation to use a DIY kit found on the shelves of auto parts stores. For around $100, the mechanic can check for leaks and recharge the refrigerant. If leaks are discovered, you might need a new compressor, with repairs costing upward of $1,000.

Car air conditioning alternatives

When money is tight and paying for costly repairs is not an option, sometimes driving without AC cannot be avoided. Keep in mind that AC systems can deteriorate over time without the proper refrigerant levels, so try to get the repairs done as soon as possible.

Until then, consider car air conditioner alternatives to make driving a bit more tolerable. An inexpensive window shade and seat covers can reduce the temperature inside your car. Portable air conditioners or 12-volt fans can also move the air around and lower the interior temp. Window tinting is another alternative that can reduce the sun’s blazing glare by up to 78 percent.

The Zebra recommends sitting on a towel if you have leather seats and keeping a cooler of ice water with you at all times. It also says, “The best offense is a good defense: Park in the shade, and drive during the day whenever possible.”

Precautions to take when driving in high temperatures

You can take several precautions to ensure your car functions properly in hot weather. Make sure your car’s battery is in good working order and prepped for high temperatures. Check your tire pressure frequently because hot asphalt takes a toll on your vehicle’s tires. Regularly monitor fluid levels and ensure the engine has coolant to prevent overheating. Also, make sure the cabin air filter is clean to eliminate unnecessary exposure to pollutants.

When driving in extreme heat with no AC, remember to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks at air-conditioned stores or rest stops for a reprieve from the high temperatures.

Also, avoid touching metal parts, like seat belt buckles, because they can get scalding-hot in high temps. And, most important, never leave children, pets, or the elderly unattended in a hot car. Dangerous conditions can escalate quickly during the heat of summer. Stay cool out there.

When the 2013 Toyota Tundra first hit dealerships, U.S. News & World Report called it the 2013 Best Full-Size Pickup Truck for the Money. While several new Tundra models have been introduced since 2013, this used Tundra still has plenty to offer pickup shoppers. As a matter of fact, Kelley Blue Book recently tapped the 2013 Tundra as the best used full-size truck under $20,000. Let’s find out why.

2013 Toyota Tundra engine specs

First things first, let’s talk about Toyota Tundra engine specs. After all, a lineup of potent engines is one of the many reasons KBB tapped the 2013 Tundra as the best used full-size truck under $20,000. As for what those engine options include? While a 270-hp 4.0-liter V6 engine is standard, this used Toyota Tundra can also be had with a 310-hp 4.6-liter V8 or a 381-hp 5.7-liter V8.

And when it comes to transmission options? The Tundra’s standard V6 engine comes mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with uphill/downhill shift logic. Meanwhile, both V8 engines feature a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The 2013 Toyota Tundra aims to please when it comes to max towing capacities too. In fact, when properly equipped, this used full-size truck can tow up to 10,400 pounds. While that’s slightly less than a used Chevy Silverado, a max towing capacity of 10,400 pounds is nothing to scoff at.

This used Toyota Tundra boasts “first-class interior accommodations”

A full lineup of engines and an impressive max towing capacity aren’t the only reasons KBB tapped the 2013 Tundra as the best used full-size truck under $20,000. As it turns out, this used Toyota Tundra also boasts “first-class interior accommodations.”

CrewMax models offer up comfortable seating for up to six adults, while the CrewMax is better suited for up to four passengers, KBB reports. This used Tundra also provides ample amounts of cargo space for toolboxes, jumper cables, and other daily essentials. It’s available with plenty of interior features too.

While Double Cab and CrewMax SR5 trims come outfitted with features like an 8-way power driver’s seat, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, and a rearview camera, Limited models benefit from interior amenities such as a JBL premium audio system. And if you’re after a used full-size truck with heated front seats and leather seating? Consider seeking out a used Tundra Platinum.

Is the 2013 Tundra a reliable truck?

Now, let’s talk reliability. There’s really no beating around the bush here. When it comes to the 2013 Toyota Tundra, you can count on it to be a reliable truck. In fact, Consumer Reports gave the 2013 model a five out of five reliability rating. That isn’t the first time Consumer Reports has given the Tundra such a high rating, either.

J.D. Power gave the 2013 Toyota Tundra an impressive reliability rating too. According to the organization, this used Toyota Tundra earned itself a Great quality and reliability rating. Much like Consumer Reports, that’s not the first time J.D. Power has given the Tundra such high marks.

Safety is paramount for this used Toyota Tundra

And when it comes to reliability? You can count on the Tundra to be a reliable used truck. But what about safety? Is the 2013 Toyota Tundra a safe pickup truck?

As it turns out, the 2013 Toyota Tundra is one of the safest used pickup trucks on the road today. In fact, KBB reports that this used Tundra was the first full-size pickup to be given the coveted Top Safety Pick award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Pretty impressive, right?

Is the 2013 Toyota Tundra the best used full-size truck for you?

If you’re shopping for the best used full-size truck under $20,000, there’s no denying that the 2013 Toyota Tundra has a lot going for it. Not necessarily. To find out, we recommend getting behind the wheel for a test drive.
