You’ve probably heard of the TSA’s no-fly list, but what about Ferrari‘s no-buy list? Buying a car should be as simple as going to a dealership and signing on the dotted line, as long as you have the money to make the payments, of course. But Ferrari disagrees, and Deadmau5 got in trouble with the Italian automaker after the DJ/producer made a hilarious modification to his 458 Italia.

Ferrari has high standards

If you’re interested in buying a new car from Ferrari, prepare for a background check. According to Autoevolution, the automaker doesn’t allow anyone to buy one of its legendary vehicles until they’ve passed a thorough background check.

If you’re considered worthy of owning a Ferrari, forget about reselling it within the first year. If you decide to resell it soon after you’ve got the title in hand, you’d better read the fine print. You might be required to alert Ferrari to your plans.

Reportedly, you can also forget about buying a new Ferrari if you own even one Lamborghini. The Prancing Horse might let you buy one of its mainstream models, but you won’t be able to purchase a limited edition.

Finally, you must never, ever, under any circumstances make any big modifications to your Ferrari. If you think you’ve got enough celebrity status to get away with it, you’d be wrong. Deadmau5 learned the hard way.

Joel Zimmerman, a Canadian electronic music producer better known as Deadmau5, did the unspeakable. He added a Nyan Cat vinyl wrap — complete rainbow trail and stars — to his sky-blue 458 Italia. If that wasn’t bad enough, Deadmau5 also swapped the car’s Prancing Horse badge for a leaping cat emblem.

It was his tribute to a 2011 YouTube video featuring an animated cat with a pink Pop-Tart body flying through space. The feline, which became known as Nyan Cat, left a rainbow trail behind it.

To say that Ferrari execs were not pleased was an understatement. Part of the agreement of buying one of the automaker’s cars is that owners will not cover up the badges, much less change them out for a cat. To add insult to injury, Zimmerman added a custom tag that read, “Purrari.”

Ferrari swiftly sent a cease-and-desist letter ordering him to remove the wrap and custom badges. He complied, but his chances of buying another car from the Italian automaker are slim to none, HotCars reported.

A lucky few can own the rarest Ferrari models

Though buying a new Ferrari might be hard, it’s not impossible. Well, it is for most people. But for famous car enthusiasts like Gordon Ramsey, it’s a reality.

The celebrity chef is the proud owner of two rare models — an F12tdf painted a pearlescent white called Bianco Fuji and a LaFerrari example in Grigio Silverstone — along with other exotic cars.

Another celebrity worthy of owning a Ferrari is Kylie Jenner. Though rumors abound that the automaker gives men over 40 preferential treatment, Jenner proves that theory is at least partially wrong. She owns a customized 458 and a 488 Spider. Plus, boyfriend Travis Scott gifted her a $1.4 million LaFerrari.

Another woman who gets the VIP treatment is Cornelia Hagmann, HotCars reported. The Austrian artist is well known for her stunning landscape paintings. She’s also a huge Ferrari fan. Her husband gave her a LaFerrari painted in classic Rosso Corsa red, and it’s one of her most prized cars.

We were astonished to see the refreshed Jeep Compass emerge. It looks a lot better than before. But it got our hopes up, only to disappoint us a little. The 2022 Jeep Compass didn’t fix one of its most significant issues.

The 2022 Jeep Compass didn’t get a new engine

2022 Jeep Compass | Jeep

There are tons of great things to say about the 2022 Jeep Compass. It looks incredibly confident with a plush interior. However, it didn’t get a new powertrain option to match its new aggressive style.

The new Jeep Compass comes with the same old 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. In the words of Edmunds, this engine has a weak power delivery. It took 10.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph, which is underwhelming.

They also mentioned that the emergency braking system took 140 feet to stop from 60 mpg, which is attributed to the low-grip all-terrain trees. The handling is underwhelming, and the transmission can be slow to downshift.

What about the Jeep Compass 4xe?

In other countries such as Italy, the Jeep Compass 4xe is doing well as a best-selling option. Plus, with Jeep’s electric vehicle push, we expected the Compass 4xe to join the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe this year.

The Compass 4xe is powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine, two electric motors, and an 11.1-kWh battery pack. This generates 190 hp in the Longitude and Latitude trims. If you upgrade to the Trailhawk trim, then you get 240 hp. That’s an incredible increase.

With the 4xe, you get an electric range of 26 miles. It can reach 81 mph in electric mode and 124 mph in hybrid mode. By using a standard home outlet with 2.3-kilowatts, you can recharge the battery in five hours. With the home-charging station, it takes under two hours to fully charge.

But you will have to take the 2022 Jeep Compass to the gas station in America. It gets an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and up to 31 mpg on the highway. These numbers are decent, but those across the pond make us jealous.

What’s new for the 2022 Compass?

Alright, despite not having a new engine or hybrid powertrain yet, the 2022 Jeep Compass is still an excellent SUV option to consider. It features smaller LED headlights, a more prominent grille with thinner slats, and new taillights.

The interior includes a new premium look with less plastic material. The dashboard is now stitched and upholstered with contrasting colors. It looks a lot more luxurious and comfortable than before.

If you opt for the new Jeep Compass Latitude Lux trim, you get heated leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster, 18-inch wheels, and a 10.1-inch screen. The standard screen is 8.4-inches.

New standard features include Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection, forward collision warning, active lane management, lane-keeping assistance, and lane departure warning.

The Jeep Compass begins at around $24,995. This is about a $500 increase from the previous model. This is a bargain considering all the extra bells and whistles that are included. But we hope a powerful upgrade and the 4xe model are on the way.

It is no secret that prices for new cars and used cars is through the roof right now. While the market recovers from the semiconductor chip shortage, certain vehicles are subject to intense price hikes. It seems the 2021 Toyota 4Runner is coming to steal the most-marked up new vehicle top spot from the Kia Telluride.

Why are Toyota 4Runners so expensive?

The Toyota 4Runner is coming for the Kia Telluride | Toyota

Right now, the 2021 Toyota 4Runner is one of the more popular vehicles on the market. Inventory is fairly low, and dealerships are taking advantage of that. According to Jalopnik, one user on the Toyota 4Runner subreddit found a New York dealership marking up the SUV by quite a bit.

Millennium Toyota in Long Island has about five 2021 4Runners available. While three of the 4Runners have normal prices, some of the TRD Pro options are marked up quite a bit. One user posted photos of an updated sticker price on two 2021 Toyota 4Runners. One of the vehicles, a 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro, had an initial cost of $52,753. Due to “limited availability,” the dealership added $23,000 to the price, bringing the total to $75,753.

Another 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro in the Lunar Rock color had an MSRP of $52,569. The note on the window sticker has “+$30,000” due to limited availability bringing the price up to $82,569. On the paper, it notes that these prices are the “dealer’s asking price (not the manufacturer’s suggested retail price).” The Lunar Rock color is fairly popular, but is it $30,000 extra popular?

The Kia Telluride price trajectory

Back in May, one dealership made waves for a similar reason. A dealership in Montana left a hand-written noted on the window of a 2021 Kia Telluride telling buyers not to try and haggle over the SUV. The note on the 2021 Kia Telluride SX SUV, noted that it was the “most sought after vehicle in the world.” It went on to say “We cannot order you one, nor can we dealer trade for one.” And the worst part? It sold.

The Kia was listed on the dealership website for a final price of $78,995. The retail price is listed at $53,505. That’s a markup of over $25,490 without any of the tax or other fees included. But the Kia Telluride is expensive both new and used right now. It topped the list of used SUVs that cost more than new SUVs right now. Buyers are lucky to find one at MSRP right now, if one can be located at all.

While inventory is still struggling to keep up, it is likely the market will see more of these markups before prices level out again.

Prices are up all over, but certain areas are seeing higher spikes

However, this isn’t the case for all dealerships. When looking at local offerings, most of the 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro models are still in the normal price range of $50,000 to $55,000. Certain cities with higher populations are also seeing higher price spikes.

According to iSeeCars data, places like Atlanta, Georgia, Boston, Massachusets, and Chicago, Illinois are at the top of the list for higher prices. In Atlanta, the GMC Sierra costs almost $5,000 more for a used truck, or 9% over the MSRP. The GMC Sierra actually shows up on the list four times. Prices for a used Sierra are up in Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, and Philadelphia. In Boston, used Toyota Tacoma trucks are up 6%, more than $2,000 over the cost of a new truck.

While the prices of used and new vehicles should level out as the year goes on, that hasn’t happened yet. If you are in the market for a used or new Toyota 4Runner or Kia Telluride, don’t get taken for a ride by greedy dealerships. You can research prices online ahead of time to avoid getting a bad deal.

Child car seats are an essential part of vehicle safety for many parents, but you would be surprised by how confusing these seemingly simple tools can be. Anyone who has installed a car seat can attest to the small nuances that are essential to ensuring the safety of your child, from belt placement to the way the car seat is attached to the vehicle. For parents who are traveling with more than one child, there is the potential for needing to move the car seat around the back seats, but is it safe to place a child car seat in the center of the back seats?

Some vehicles are designed for this

While almost every vehicle with a backseat is designed to secure a child car seat with the use of anchors, the number of seats that have this safety equipment can vary based on several factors. Some vehicles, for example, have a rear seat with a center seat designed with its own car seat anchors, but, according to Consumer Reports, this is not a requirement for vehicles designed to be sold in the US market, so not every vehicle is equipped with dedicated car seat anchors in the rear center seat.

In some vehicles that are not equipped with dedicated car seat anchors in the center rear seat, manufacturers have designed a way in which you can essentially ‘borrow’ the car seat anchors from the seats on either side without compromising safety. Standard spacing between the car seat anchors provided by the side seats is 11 inches, but that isn’t necessarily the distance between the anchors on either side of the center seat if you are looking to borrow the anchors and install the car seat there. Overall, some vehicles are just considered more car-seat friendly than others altogether, and that may be something to keep in mind when purchasing your next vehicle.

Things to keep in mind with car seat installation

On the other hand, not every vehicle is designed to provide drivers with the option to safely ‘borrow’ car seat anchors to install a car seat in the center rear row, making it an unsafe option. The first step is to check your vehicle’s owner’s manual for instructions and guidance on whether or not your vehicle is suited for installing a car seat here. The second step is to ensure that the car seat itself is capable of safely using anchors that are spaced apart a standard distance, as some are not. When borrowing car seat anchors, the distance between the anchors are considered non-standard and is only possible for some car seats.

When it comes to car seat installation, the first and foremost important thing to keep in mind is safety, and cutting corners on install can prevent the car seat from working properly. Because of this, it is crucial to take the time to ensure that, when necessary or desired, the installation of a car seat in the center rear row is a safe option for both your vehicle and car seat.
