In the world of muscle cars, consumers are fierce loyalists to a few of their iconic favorites. Many of those top-pick performance cars bear Dodge badges. Often leading the charge in launching performance muscle models, Dodge also recognizes that times are changing. The automaker plans to meet those industry shifts by introducing the world’s first electric muscle car in 2024.

If any manufacturer could marry EV technology to old-school muscle, it’s Dodge. However, can this new car really be comparable to the robust power of yesterday’s models? What can consumers expect to see when this electrified Dodge rolls off the line?

The Dodge roster of impressive muscle cars

The Dodge brand has a long, rich history of building powerful muscle cars. It may be most known for its Charger and Challenger contenders, but it’s what’s under the hood that commands respect. Available engines include the Supercharged 6.2L High-Output HEMI SRT Hellcat Redeye V8 and the Supercharged 6.2L HEMI SRT Hellcat V8 engine. However, as Dodge points out, the 392 HEMI V8 engine, the 5.7L HEMI V8 engine, and the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine mean the brand “pulls no punches” in terms of power.

Dodge muscle cars are typically known for two things, performance and speed. Kelley Blue Book named Dodge the Best Car Styling Brand for the third year in a row, though, meaning these beefy performers also have impressive looks. The Challenger Hellcat is often listed as the fastest muscle car of all, according to HotCars.com, with a top speed of 199 mph and a zero-to-60 run in only 3.5 seconds.

Can an EV still have muscle?

Dodge knows a thing or two about building muscle. However, can an EV introduction really compete? According to Car and Driver, we’ll see soon enough as the automaker announced it would launch an electric muscle car in 2024 called the eMuscle. Officials said the new muscle car EV would feature one of Stellantis’s EV platforms and provide up to 500 miles of continuous driving range on a charge. The Drive shared Dodge’s statement about this new EV’s mission to “tear up the streets, not the environment.”

It’s not certain if this new Dodge EV muscle car will look like the two-door Challenger, the four-door Charger, or something completely different. However, the manufacturer says it will use the Fratzog logo from the 60s and 70s on the new car’s grille. The statement from the company clarified that it would be the symbol ushering in “another great automotive era,” referring to an age of electrified muscle.

When will this electric Dodge muscle car come out?

There is a teaser car design being shared by Autoblog, giving consumers a sneak peek into what a new Dodge EV might resemble. There are some retro-inspired styles, including a fastback-looking roofline, hearkening to the 1969 Dodge Charger. The wheels look wide, and the lighting profile appears unique.

According to Stellantis, the parent company of Dodge, there will be unibody construction for the eMuscle. Additionally, there are four officially dedicated EV platforms used to deliver that promised 500 miles of range. Others speculate it will be the STLA large platform at the heart of the production, and there could be other hybrid models coming to the Dodge lineup sooner rather than later.

For now, there’s no official launch date other than Dodge’s commitment to release this electric muscle car for the 2024 model year. It may be a tough EV pill to swallow and a difficult transition for some consumers who have grown accustomed to the loud and proud gas-powered engines. However, if there ever were to be an EV with muscle car chops, it would likely be a Dodge.

Three-row SUVs are family-friendly. They have loads of passenger and cargo space. As an added bonus, their size makes them safer in a crash with a smaller vehicle. You don’t have to sacrifice style for safety and comfort, either. Consumer Reports ranked the luxury three-row SUVs out there. The 2021 BMW X7 is the best luxury large three-row SUV.

2021 BMW X7 | BMW

What criteria does Consumer Reports use to rate cars?

Consumer Reports focused on three-row SUVs with a good, usable third row. Many three-row SUV shoppers really want a usable third row.

All of the top choices have a Consumer Reports recommended badge. This means that they scored well in the road test, and also have a good reliability rating. Consumer Reports prioritizes safety features, so the best luxury three-row SUV has to have the most important safety features. The best luxury three-row SUV must also have good crash test ratings.

The 2021 BMW X7 is the best large three-row SUV because of its ratings and safety

The 2021 BMW X7 gets a four out of five for its acceleration. It can go 0 to 60 in an impressive 6.5 seconds. Its transmission is excellent, at a four out of five.

Both the routine and emergency handling in the 2021 BMW X7 are pretty good, at a four out of five. Routine handling is measured by how agile Consumer Reports finds the SUV to be. Emergency handling is rated by several factors, including its max avoidance speed.

Braking is also great, at a four out of five. The 2021 BMW X7 can stop from 60 mph on dry pavement in 136 feet and on wet pavement in 141 feet.

One of the reasons the 2021 BMX X7 is the best luxury large three-row SUV is the number of advanced safety systems it comes with. The X7 comes with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking at city speeds, and pedestrian detection.

The 2021 X7 also comes with lane departure warning, as well as blind-spot warning. It also comes with rear cross-traffic warning, rearview camera, anti-lock breaks, and traction and stability control. The X7 comes with daytime running lights, but you’ll have to pay extra for lane keeping assist and automatic emergency braking at highway speeds.

There aren’t any crash test ratings by the IIHS or NHTSA. This makes it hard to gauge how safe it would be in a crash.

The reliability and owner satisfaction contribute to the 2021 BMW X7 being one of the best luxury large three-row SUVs

Consumer Reports sends reliability and owner satisfaction surveys to people who have bought previous versions of the BMW X7. Then they combine this data with what they know about the current model. This helps them predict how reliable a vehicle will be.

The reliability score for the 2021 BMW X7 is a three out of five. There isn’t currently more information about this score.

The overall owner satisfaction score for the 2021 BMW X7 is a five out of five. Consumer Reports collects data from owners to determine how happy they are with the vehicle. X7 owners are especially satisfied with the driving experience, giving it a 91 out of 100. Comfort gets a shockingly high 100 out of 100, and styling gets an 87. However, the value is only a 35 out of 100. Still, more people would buy the 2021 BMW X7 again than any other large luxury three-row SUV.

Overall, the 2021 BMW X7 is a fantastic choice for a large family that wants safety, comfort and style. With its good ratings, safety equipment, and crash test ratings, it’s a solid three-row SUV. It’s not a surprise that the 2021 BMW X7 is the number one large three-row SUV out there.

We are with you Toyota Tacoma fans. We love this mid-size off-roading truck for its dependability and off-roading capabilities. Let’s keep this party going by checking out what’s new for the 2022 Toyota Tacoma

What’s new for the 2022 Toyota Tacoma?

2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition | Toyota

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma is even more capable than before with off-roading upgrades. The lifted Tacoma models, including the Trail Edition and TRD Pro, both sit a half-inch taller in the back.

The Trail Edition sits 1.1 inches taller in the front, while the Tacoma TRD Pro sits 1.5 inches taller in the front. Both models benefit from an increased approach, breakover, and departure angles with the extra height advantage.

With the new Tacoma Trail edition, the approach angle is 34 degrees, the departure angle increases to 23.6 degrees, and the breakover angle is 26.4 degrees. With the TRD Pro, the approach angle is improved to 36.4 degrees with a 24.7-degree departure angle and 26.6-degree breakover angle.

What do the Trail Edition and TRD Pro include?

The new 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition is based on the SR5 model. Only it includes standard four-wheel drive, a suspension lift, a heritage-style grille, and bronze exterior accents. It also has a locking rear differential.

Plus, you get installed cargo bed storage, and the Trail Edition sits on 16-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear all-terrain tires. The Trail Edition is available in several colors, including Lunar Rock, Army Green, Super White, and Midnight Black.

Opting for the TRD Pro trim provides a few extra goodies, such as new TRD-tuned Fox internal bypass shocks. You also get new forged aluminum upper control arms to leverage the extra rebound stroke that accompanies the extra modifications.

Visual upgrades feature 16-inch black aluminum wheels wrapped in Goodyear Territory All-Terrain tires, refreshed exterior graphics and badges, and TRD PRO stampings on both sides of the cargo bed.

Plus, as you may have noticed, the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro shines bright in a new shade of Electric Lime! This truck will be hard to miss. Other TRD Pro colors include Magnetic Grey, Midnight Black, and Super White.

What else is happening for the 2022 Tacoma?

Toyota hasn’t announced any other changes for the 2022 Tacoma yet. We were hopeful that the Toyota Tacoma turbo-diesel rumor would come true, but so far, the same engines are being carried over. The 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque.

You can upgrade to the 3.5-liter V6 engine for 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, the Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,685 lbs. This is a little behind rivals, but it’s plenty of power for hauling mid-size campers and boats.

The base model features a 7.0-inch display, but all other trims come with an 8.0-inch screen. Apple Carplay and Android Auto come standard, while multiple USB ports and wireless charging are optional.

Pricing for the 2022 Toyota Tacoma hasn’t been released. The 2021 model has an MSRP of $26,400. We wouldn’t be surprised if the price increases by a few hundred dollars and can’t wait to see what the improved off-roading trims can do.

Not to scare you or anything, but your Chevy Bolt might catch on fire – oh, and set your house on fire. I know, I know; how do you not worry about something like that? Maybe you should. After all, there have been a handful of fires due to a defect in the Chevy Bolt batteries, and a recent recall hasn’t fixed it yet.

Chevy Bolt | Chevrolet

What is the Chevy Bolt spontaneous combustion warning about?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recalled all 2017 to 2019 Chevy Bolts. Although this comes after a recent Vermont Bolt fire, it isn’t the first incident.

The most recent Chevy Bolt fire happened to a Vermont state representative, Timothy Briglin. Jalopnik Notes that Briglin is the chair of the State House Committee on Energy and Technology, and has cosponsored electric vehicle legislation. Basically, he’s a big supporter of electric vehicles (though no one would blame him if he turned to the Ford Mach-e or Tesla Model Y while Chevrolet sorts these things out).

The fire that affected Briglin’s 2019 Chevy Bolt seems to be an “undetermined electrical system failure,” according to the Vermont state police. That’s been a thing with the Chevy Bolt, and it isn’t the kind of thing you want happening to something you and your family spend a whole lot of time in.

Why is the NHTSA recalling Chevy Bolts?

The NHTSA is recalling certain Chevy Bolts between the years 2017 to 2019. In addition to the recall, GM has told Bolt owners to park their vehicles outside and away from buildings out of “an abundance of caution.” They have also advised Bolt owners to not charge their electric vehicles overnight. This is a pretty scary warning, especially for those who typically park their cars in a garage, and would prefer to not have their house blow up at night. Or, really, at all.

This isn’t the first Chevy Bolt recall

In November 2020, there was another Chevy Bolt recall. This was due to a fire hazard in the high voltage battery pack “underneath the backseat’s bottom cushion. The affected vehicles’ cell packs have the potential to smoke and ignite internally, which could spread to the rest of the vehicle and cause a structure fire if parked inside a garage or near a house.”

Perhaps the most concerning aspect of all of this is that two recent Chevy Bolt buyers occurred in vehicles that had already been recalled and repaired. The NHTSA and GM are telling Bolt owners that even if their car has already been repaired, to still not park inside or charge overnight. This makes sense, considering they aren’t really sure what the problem is (or how to fix it).

If you own a Chevy Bolt, this news is undoubtedly unwelcome. It may even be problematic if you typically charge your car while you sleep. Until Chevrolet and the NHTSA figure out what is going on though, it is definitely best to follow their advice. Otherwise, your Chevy Bolt might spontaneously combust and set your house on fire. No big deal.
