The manual transmission is dying. That’s especially true in the luxury sports cars segment. Unfortunately, it’s just a fact of life for sports coupes and other cars. You see, modern dual-clutch and automatic transmissions can move gears far faster than your hands and feet. However, if you like rowing your own, no matter how slowly, there’s still a few special vehicles out there with a stick if you have the coin.

What sports cars are still manual?

The BMW M2 CS still gets you a manual transmission | BMW

For starters, you can in fact get a BMW with a manual transmission. Hell, you can get a few BMW models with a good ol’ six-speed gearbox. However, the pinnacle of that is the BMW M2 and its sportier variant, the M2 CS. While this doesn’t necessarily fit into the “luxury sports cars” niche, the M2 is simply too good a car to leave off the list.

For starters, it’s the spiritual successor to the E46 M3, a personal favorite of mine. By that I mean it’s small, makes strong power for its size, and comes with a manual transmission. Journalists the world over have heralded it for its razor-sharp handling and fantastic driving engagement; both things that scream “stick-shift sports car.” Oh, also 444 hp.

There will be no manual Genesis G70 in 2022

Now, this is truly one of the unsung heroes of the luxury sports cars segment. The Genesis G70 is one of the last of the rear-wheel-drive manual transmission-equipped sports sedans. Of course, the BMW M3 does offer a manual transmission, but not for this kind of price. You can get a G70 on the road for under $50,000.

You’ll also be getting Brembo brakes and a limited-slip differential. Moreover, you get to be cooler than all the other kids by having a stick luxury car. Now that’s an idea that hasn’t been commonplace since the ’90s. However, I should note that MotorTrend found the G70 in stick flavor to be somewhat lacking, even with a somewhat healthy 252 hp.

The 2021 Porsche 911 still has a manual transmission

I have a feeling Porsche will always sell you a stick | Porsche

To the surprise of no one, Porsche is happy to sell you a manual. In fact, were I a betting man, I’d be willing to stick my neck out and say the company will find a way to make a stick EV if it means #savingthemanuals. You can get just about every flavor of 911 with a manual, from a base Carrera (for an eye-watering $100K), all the way up to the 500 hp GT3.

No matter what, consumers are still spoiled for choice when it comes to luxury sports cars with a manual transmission. Unfortunately, the “luxury” part of that statement (and price tag) means that the rest of us filthy commoners will have to wait for depreciation to do its dirty work to get our hands on a new stick car. Go buy a WRX I guess.

The 2021 McLaren GT is one of the latest and greatest supercars to hit the market, offering modern styling, feature, technology, and performance that is almost too good to believe. It’s a comfortable option enough for those to chose it as its daily driver, and it does well to improve on previous McLaren cars, adding fine tunings and changes that make the car worth buying at its six-figure sales price. Only a decade has passed since the McLaren MP4-12C was brought into production, and if the new McLaren GT has done anything right, it’s refining on the formulaic design and engineering of their vehicles rather than making dramatic changes.

While McLaren has been on the map in the automotive scene for decades, partially because of its extensive history and racing prestige, it didn’t develop its first full-scale production car until the early 2000s. Before the McLaren MP4-12C, McLaren’s first official supercar, there was the hyper exclusive, incredibly rare, and valuable McLaren F1 hypercar. The McLaren F1 is a $20 million hypercar that showed off the brand’s prowess and ability to bring their racing heritage to the streets — and it’s even featured in the latest season of CarTrek on YouTube. While the F1 was a fantastic car, it was the McLaren MP4-12C that put the brand on the map for consumers who couldn’t quite spend hypercar money but still wanted to invest in a supercar that offered a balanced driving experience with luxury and performance.

The 2021 McLaren GT

The 2021 McLaren GT is one of the newest supercars from the brand, and as a GT car is certainly doesn’t disappoint. Its comfortable, sophisticated interior is laden with tech and somehow manages to balance a futuristically modern look with high-quality materials and obvious indulgences in tech. Power and performance-wise, it compares directly to the McLaren MP4-12C — both handling like high horsepower Lotus. The 2021 McLaren GT takes all of the great aspects from the McLaren MP4-12C and improves upon them, as well as addresses any issues or downfalls of the car — like how the MP4-12C doesn’t have BlueTooth music standard. Overall, the 2021 McLaren GT is like a more refined version of the MP4-12C.

What the stats show about the McLaren GT and MP4-12C

Besides personal preference and experience, the easiest way to compare the car is by the numbers — and luckily for us, there is plenty to compare between the 2021 McLaren GT and the MP4-12C. The biggest difference between the vehicles is the original MSRP, but, as an older, used supercar, the price of the McLaren MP4-12C is significantly lower — and, if you’re determined, you can even buy a wrecked McLaren and rebuild it. Otherwise, these supercars go toe-to-toe in terms of performance, and they have the stats to prove it.

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the many celebrities who leave us in awe with their stunning car collections. His fleet includes models from Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, and Rolls-Royce. He’s also the sole owner of the Bugatti La Voiture Noire, a purchase that set the footballer back nearly $19 million.

And the latest addition to his collection is a matte-black Mercedes-Benz G-Class. As if this SUV weren’t already stellar, Ronaldo’s has modifications from Brabus. How much did he pay for this G-Wagen, and what makes it unique?

There are a few Brabus G-Wagens out there, so we’re unsure which one Ronaldo acquired for himself. Autoevolution thinks it might be a rare version from the “One of Ten” production run. Only 10 models were produced and cost around $668,000 each. Additionally, the Brabus G-Wagen was available only for European drivers.

However, according to the specs listed on the duPont Registry, it’s a closer match to the 800 version released last year. This one uses a souped-up version of the turbocharged V8 you can find on today’s Mercedes-AMG G65.

There used to be a V12 offering capable of over 600 hp, but that’s available only on a used G-Wagen now. The “One of Ten” models sport an improved version of this motor capable of 900 hp. It can reach 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and boasts a maximum speed of 174 mph. On Ronaldo’s example, the V8 makes around 800 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque. For comparison, the 2021 model makes only a maximum of 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.

Brabus also outfitted this new engine with larger turbochargers, forged pistons, an improved crankshaft, and billet connecting rods. All of these new enhancements allow the Brabus G-Wagen to reach 60 mph in only 4.1 seconds.

We’ve yet to see Ronaldo drive his new toy, but we’re sure it handles as well as a standard G-Wagen. In fact, it’s probably better on civilized roads now thanks to its upgraded engine.

The duPont Registry says Ronaldo’s G-Wagen is a custom order with black paint contrasted by shiny silver wheel accents. The grille replaces the traditional Benz emblem with a capital “B” for “Brabus.” We’d be willing to guess the interior sports sumptuous black leather complemented by genuine wood and chrome trim.

What is Brabus?

Brabus actually already works closely with Mercedes-Benz, providing restoration services for classic Benz models, Brabus says. The company also offers after-market tuning for existing models, as seen on Ronaldo’s new G-Wagen. Although based in Germany, Brabus operates in 100 other countries.

In addition to making power upgrades, Brabus also modifies interiors with upgraded materials and custom accommodations. Its engineers also add new safety features, eco-friendly engine technology, and upgraded wheels.

Brabus also offers certain models already retuned or restored, though they aren’t cheap. If you want only an upgraded engine, you can purchase a kit from VividRacing for around $10,000. Of course, you’ll have to provide your own G-Wagen.

What is Cristiano Ronaldo’s net worth?

According to Forbes, Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. His current net worth is $120 million, and he reportedly makes an average of $64 million per year playing soccer. Additionally, he receives revenue from his Nike sponsorship and multiple branded products.

He’s the first athlete to acquire over $1 billion in lifetime earnings, which explains how he can afford so many exotic cars. However, Ronaldo didn’t have to spend a dime on his new Brabus G-Wagen: It was a gift from his girlfriend.

Another day, another brand new electric vehicle concept from a popular automaker. At the 2021 Munich Auto Show, Volkswagen revealed a concept for its new EV model that launches in Europe by 2025. Unfortunately for American fans of the VW brand, there are no current plans to bring the production version of the ID.Life to the United States. This is one EV that will remain exclusive to Europe and Asia. Although before getting disappointed, Volkswagen has a lineup of EVs coming that will feature similar technology to the ID.Life concept.

What we know about the Volkswagen ID.Life concept

Volkswagen ID.Life Concept | Volkswagen

The Volkswagen ID.Life concept is a compact SUV, or mini-SUV which will debut in VW’s lineup starting in 2025. Its front wheels are powered by a 231-hp electric motor; its 57.0-kWh battery pack has an estimated 249 miles per charge. Volkswagen chose not to include interior or exterior mirrors, but instead opt for cameras and small display screens throughout. The customizable interior features a mode that maximizes cargo space, as well as a setting to turn the front and second-row bench seats into a bed. VW says the ID.Life can be transformed into a comfortable place to watch a movie or play video games, when parked.

Like a Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco, the roof of the Volkswagen ID.Life concept can be completely removed. You can find recycled mateirals used throughout the entire vehicle. Materials such as wood chips, natural rubber, and rice husks. The roof and other parts of the ID.Life contain these materials. The steering wheel is hexagonal and contains a large display screen.

Volkswagen’s electric future

Volkswagen’s goal is for half of all new VWs sold in China and the US to be electric by 2030. In that same timeframe, it also hopes to increase its share of EV sales in Europe to 70 percent. A more affordable electric concept car of the future, the ID.Life may start at an equivalent price of about $24,000. This price point should help increase traction for VW’s electric vehicle goals.

Volkswagen EV alternatives

As mentioned earlier, Volkswagen does not plan to release the ID.Life production version in the United States. So what vehicles can Americans look forward to from VWs electric lineup? In 2024 comes an old classic revived to be eco-friendly.

The ID.Buzz Microbus is the Volkswagen bus you remember, but completely electric. With such an iconic design, it seems like a no-brainer to bring it back as an EV. The Microbus will use the same underpinnings as the Audi e-tron crossover and have 300-hp.

Lets say the ID.Life doesn’t have enough room for your family, and the Microbus isn’t your style. Volkswagen is also releasing a three-row SUV with its electric-vehicle architecture. The ID.8 (and its smaller siblings ID.6 and ID.4) is expected to come soon, though the smallest of the three SUVs, the ID.4 is set to release as a 2023 model. The ID.8 will seat seven and have an optional dual-motor all-wheel drive upgrade.

Volkswagen, like many other automakers, is taking big strides to enter the electric market. This new concept vehicle is a big step toward creating a versatile EV lineup for the future. Volkswagen’s ID.Life concept is a stylish and convenient mini-SUV that brings a futuristic look to the VW lineup. Who could say no to a bench seat that transforms into a bed?
