Driving without registration or tags sounds like a one-way ticket to the slammer. After all, what is a car without its license plates? But there is one case where you could, in fact, drive without any plates on your car without even getting a ticket.

There’s only one time you can “technically” drive a car without registration or license plates

If you just purchased a car from a private seller, say on Craigslist, they can’t give you the car with the plates. In order for them to legally sell the vehicle, they have to turn in those plates, leaving you plateless. Only then is it “technically” okay to drive the car without plates, but you will be pulled over, and there are a few contingencies.

For starters, you’ll need the car’s title. If the seller doesn’t have that, I’d suggest looking at a different car, as it’s very complicated to get one of those when you aren’t the original owner. Have your license ready as well, as a form of ID. Those two are obvious, but the next two things are crucial.

In order to prove you just bought the car, you’ll need what’s called a bill of sale. The form varies from state to state, but it’s fairly simple. You and the seller will agree upon price, note the mileage on the odometer, and put in some basic contact information. From there, you sign, and presto! The sale is in writing.

Before you even pick up the car, however, you’ll need to make sure it’s insured. If it’s a hunk of junk that’d be more expensive to insure than to scrap, you just need liability insurance. Otherwise, load up on whatever coverages you have, and have proof of insurance ready to go. Typically, an insurance policy doesn’t take effect until the next day (or next business day). So make sure your coverage is in place before you drive away in your new ride.

All this varies by state, and you should check First Quarter Finance to see what your laws are. However, showing these things to the authorities when they, inevitably, pull you over can save you some trouble.

What can happen if you drive without plates, or without insurance?

Other than the one outlined exception, driving without plates is illegal. And no matter what you’re driving, driving without insurance is illegal.

In terms of license plates, there are some states where it’s okay to operate without a front license plate. However, no matter where you live, you must have a rear license plate. Otherwise, you’re looking at steep fines and possibly losing your license. And if the car gets impounded, that’s $40 a day for 30 days, adding onto the list of expenses.

Driving without insurance is an even more punishable offense depending on the state you like. In Delaware, the fine is $1,500, and your license is immediately suspended for six months. In Connecticut, the fine may only be $100, but you could face up to five years in jail. A full list of state laws can be found on Marketwatch.com, but I wouldn’t chance it.

All that said, there’s a very simple way to prove you’ve just purchased the car and are in the process of getting it registered. Go to your local DMV and grab some temporary tags.

Getting temporary tags is either very easy, or very hard depending on what state your in

Like all good bureaucracy, it makes no sense. There’s no coherency and no logic to it, just paperwork and signatures. But, at your local DMV, you can purchase temporary tags (or trip tags) that let the authorities know your car is in the process of getting registered.

You’ll need the vehicle identification number, or VIN, which is plastered on the car in a few different locations. After that, you’ll get a piece of paper that you can tape to the back window or plate holder and drive to your destination. These tags are temporary, lasting anywhere from 10 to 60 days, and you’re expected to have the car registered by the time the period ends. Otherwise, it’s an unregistered car, and you’re bound to get busted.

You can also call your state police department and ask if there is a one-way trip pass available for purchase. Some states don’t have any available, but the ones that do allow you to drive to your nearest police station, get the temporary trip tag, and then drive the car from wherever you bought it to wherever it needs to be.

The best practice is to make sure you’re following all the complex laws. Though, if you did just buy a vehicle from a private seller, then driving without plates is an option. It’s a dicey option, but it is an option. Just obey every traffic law, and don’t give cops a reason to fine you.

The 2022 Rivian R1T is one of the most hyped-up vehicles soon to be released. The electric pickup truck on the verge of beginning deliveries, and it’s all anyone can talk about. Rivian reviews are overwhelmingly positive and the general consensus is that it will revolutionize the electric vehicle industry. So what is Rivian doing that has the automotive industry on the edge of their seats?

2022 Rivian R1T | Rivian

Rivian reviews are fantastic

MotorTrend calls the 2022 Rivian R1T “the most remarkable pickup we’ve ever driven.” They’re not alone. Rivian reviews are largely good. People can’t get enough of the Rivian’s speed, efficiency, and handling. The Rivian R1T is described as quick and nimble. It can go from 0 to 60 in just 3 seconds. Not bad for a pickup truck, and an electric one at that.

The Rivian R1T handles well and its engine is efficient, without the halting and hesitating that many other vehicles have. Its estimated range is 314 miles on a single charge. On top of that, MotorTrend says that the R1T “can tackle obstacles that might give the Jeep Wrangler pause.”

It also has a four-motor 4WD system and a skateboard platform. This means that the chassis has a base structure which holds the battery and motor. Not only does this cut down on manufacturing costs, it also keeps the center of gravity in the R1T lower.

The Rivian interior is “plush” and “supportive”

If you buy a 2022 Rivian R1T, you’re not just getting a high-performance electric vehicle, you’re also getting a pretty nice pickup truck as well. MotorTrend says that at first glance the Rivian interior is unassuming. It has a a 15.6” infotainment screen and a 12.3” digital instrument cluster, though its graphics are excellent.

It comes standard with a moonroof. The Rivian interior is also “plush” and the rear occupants even have their own screen. At the same time, the third row isn’t as spacious as it could be, and taller passengers may not enjoy sitting back there for an extended period of time.

Want to customize the vegan leather seats? You can do that, with three color combinations to choose from. The front seats are immensely comfortable, and also heated. You may not want to leave your truck, especially on a cold winter day.

Rivian stock valuation suggests some serious confidence in the company

In August 2021, Rivian filed to go public. What does this mean? Rivian could be a publicly traded company by the end of 2021.

Perhaps the biggest question is what will Rivian stock be worth? Rumors swirling around the internet suggest that the company will be valued at about $80 billion. A valuation that high means that Rivian will have to have very high production and few to no delays in order to be successful. And with the kinds of investors that have put their confidence (and money) into the company, like Ford and BlackRock, it’s just possible that Rivian might be able to do it.

The 2022 Rivian R1T will start at $67,500. Rivian is set to start delivering R1T trucks, followed by the seven-seater R1S . Of course, they’ll have to navigate the production delays that have been hitting major competitors like Tesla. Yet if they can do it, we may see the greatest electric pickup ever before we know it.

In recent years, the loss of manufacturing jobs is a significant problem in the U.S., including the automotive industry. One may not think of a Japanese automaker like Toyota as part of the solution to this problem. However, many Toyota models are built in America, including the Tundra and Tacoma pickup trucks.

The Toyota Tundra and Tacoma pickup trucks are built at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas plant in San Antonio, Texas. The manufacturing plant broke ground in 2003 and started operations in 2006. It houses state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. More than 3,200 Toyota employees work at the plant, as well as an additional 4,000 people from over 20 on-site suppliers.

With the hard work of the employees, a completed Tundra or Tacoma truck rolls off the assembly at a rate of one unit every 60 seconds. In 2020, the plant produced 170,105 trucks.

Before breaking ground on the manufacturing plant in Texas, Toyota purchased 2,678 acres of ranchland, which has historical roots dating back to 1794. Toyota donated 678 acres of this land to the City of San Antonio. The land donation created green space along the Medina River and Leon Creek, which borders the manufacturing plant.

In addition to the creation of green space, Toyota made a positive environmental impact in the area in other ways. To help lower its carbon emissions, the plant uses many solar panels. The solar panels create around 4.5 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year. Also, the plant is a zero-waste facility. It works with suppliers at the plant to recycle various materials, such as metal, cardboard, and wood pallets.

The manufacturing plant furthers its positive environmental impact by improving biodiversity. It has a vibrant pollinator garden with beautiful plants, which attract butterflies, birds, and bats. Also, the plant has a partnership with the San Antonio Zoo. For this partnership, Toyota is working with the zoo to reintroduce Texas horned lizards to the green space around the plant, which is the lizard’s native habitat.

How does the Toyota plant benefit the San Antonio community?

The biggest benefit of the Toyota plant for the San Antonio community is the thousands of jobs that it supports. This has a very positive impact on the local economy. This is accomplished by directly providing livable incomes for the local population and indirectly with the many local businesses that the employees utilize.

Toyota also invests in STEM education and workforce development, with the aim of developing employees for the future. This includes a collaboration with the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The goal of this collaboration is to educate middle school children from impoverished neighborhoods about STEM careers.

Also, Toyota collaborates with the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce for the annual Alamo City Electrathon, also known as the “Ace Race.” Using a kit car donated by Toyota, children design and race their very own tiny passenger car.

What’s the difference between Land Rover and Range Rover? To many people, they’re the same SUV. Even people who recognize that Land Rover and Range Rover are different may not entirely understand why. Are they made by the same car manufacturer? Do they have any similarities? Let’s take a look at what the differences and similarities are between these two luxury SUVs, and whether one is right for you.

2021 Range Rover | Land Rover

Land Rover is the SUV brand

Land Rover is the brand that makes both SUVs. There are a total of seven SUVs in the Land Rover lineup. U.S. News says that “To oversimplify things, Land Rover focuses on more mainstream (for the brand) vehicles. Range Rovers tend to be larger, more luxurious, and more expensive than the other SUVs in Land Rover’s lineup.”

U.S. News also says that while both Land Rovers and Range Rovers may be expensive, different models prioritize different things. This is where you’ll see more of the differences between Land Rovers and Range Rovers.

There are 4 Range Rovers in the Range Rover Family

Okay, so we already know that a Range Rover is just one kind of Land Rover, but it’s not quite that simple. Additionally, it’s also a subcategory of Land Rovers. There are four SUVs in the Range Rover family. These include the Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport, the Range Rover Velar, and the Range Rover Evoque. The Range Rover is the good old classic SUV that you probably think of when you think ‘Range Rover.’

Then there’s the Sport, which is more performance-focused. The Velar is a bit more luxurious, and the Evoque is a bit smaller, as well as affordable.

Land Rovers are thought to be more ‘adventurous’

If you don’t want to spend the extra money on the high-end Range Rover, you may prefer one of the Land Rover models instead. The Land Rover Discovery is a three-row, full-size SUV that’s geared toward both cities and off-road.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport is a smaller version of the Land Rover Discovery, which is supposed to make it even easier to take your really expensive SUV on an adventure.

If you want to be green, there’s a Land Rover for that as well. The Land Rover Plug-In Hybrid is half-green with full power.

As you can see, it’s easy to confuse the two SUVs. Since they’re both Land Rovers, and there are so many Range Rovers in the Range Rover family which is part of the Land Rover family, it’s no surprise that so many people wonder what the difference is between the two. If you’re thinking of buying one of these luxury SUVs, you’ll quickly learn to decipher which is a Land Rover and which is a Land Rover Range Rover. (Hint: the cost may be a give-away.)
