Koenigsegg is more than just a super hard word to spell. It just so happens also to be one of the most coveted hypercar companies in the world. Koenigsegg is in the unicorn class of car that is so rare they might as well not exist. That being said, the ultimate hypercar is getting even more hyper with the announcement that it plans to use volcanoes as a fuel source for its car.

Can Koenigsegg really power a car with a volcano? 

You don’t become the King of the hypercar realm without pushing and often going past the boundaries of technology. Like Rimac or Pagani, Koenigsegg is constantly going for the most extreme version of itself. 

In 2017, the Koenigsegg Agera RS broke a new production car speed record, and it also produced the first camless engine called the Freevalve. Koenigsegg also developed the Direct-drive, which completely gets rid of the transmission. Koenigsegg is always up to something, and now it seems its engineers are playing around with the idea of including volcano fuel to the list of sci-fi tech.

What is biofuel 

According to CarBuzz, Koenigsegg’s founder, Christian von Koenigsegg, said in an interview with Bloomberg that the company experimented with ultra-high-voltage battery packs and biofuel from semi-active volcanoes to create carbon-neutral hypercars. See! Koenigsegg is trying to make volcano cars. 

“So there is this technology from Iceland, it was invented there, where they cap the CO2 emittance from semi-active volcanoes and convert that into methanol,” Christian von Koenigsegg explained.

Koenigsegg went on to say, “And, if you take that methanol and you power the plants that do the conversion of other fuels and then power the ship that transports those fuels to Europe or the U.S. or Asia, wherever it goes, you put the fuel completely CO2-neutral into the vehicle.”

Mr. Hypercar even went so fast as to say that cars running on this “volcanol” fuel can “correct after treatment systems” and even “clean up the particles in the atmosphere while you’re using the engine.” 

Why not just build electric cars? 

Volcano cars are definitely the coolest thing I have ever heard of, but it seems like the hardest way to make an alternative fuel possible. Koenigsegg isn’t completely against electric cars or anything like that. The Koenigsegg Regera hypercar comes in a hybrid version as does the Gemera. The Gemera is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-three engine and three electric motors producing a combined 1,700 hp.

Although the hypercar builder clearly sees the value of battery power, it is still hesitant to go full EV because the weight of the batteries is unacceptable when building these hypercars. These are meant to be blindingly fast, first and foremost. 

Basically, they love combustion but are obviously willing to go to great lengths to secure combustion technology that isn’t harmful to the planet. I, for one, wish Koenigsegg all the luck in the world for making volcano cars a real thing. The eight-year-old me needs it.

We love yellow vehicles. Even though Taxis and school busses come this way we feel that yellow is an unsung hero for vehicle color. But the Mansory Gronos Mercedes G-Wagen makes us wish that silence was yellow instead of golden.

Unless you’re into circus wagons you might want to pass on this latest model from the folks at Mansory. The German custom tuner is never shy about loading up its limited-edition models with eye-searing paint, parts, and pageantry. But looking at the Gronos G 63 you already knew that. 

The good news is that Mansory will only make 10 of these things. But the downside is that Mansory won’t tone any of its modifications down. We could live with the yellow if it wasn’t blaring on the exterior and inside, too. 

What do you get with a Mansory G-Wagen?

Mansory’s body kit includes a completely redesigned front fascia tying into the exclusive bumper. The grille, wheel opening arches, and elaborate carbon-fiber hood are all Mansory-made pieces. Then Mansory mixes it up with off-road components to give the look some teeth.

So the snowflake wheels are augmented with the roof-mounted driving lights, reworked rear end with a Mansory-designed bumper, wing, and carbon fiber spare wheel cover. The yellow loudness continues to the inside.

Once there you’re met with more yellow. Much more. And also some chocolate brown leather seat inserts, plus more yellow. Did we mention there is lots of yellow inside? And there are yellow flakes or drops found on the steering wheel, center console, and door inserts. 

Thankfully, the Mansory G-Wagen isn’t all show and no-go

Thankfully, there is more to this limited run of 10 G-wagens than cosmetics. The 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 now cranked up to 850 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. Zero to 60 times are estimated to be 3.5 seconds. 

The top speed is listed as 155 mph, which is held by a limiter to that number. We wonder what the top speed would be without the speed blocker? Regardless, this G-Wagen hauls and should perform well whether off-roading or cruising down Electric Avenue.

Everyone knows a Ford GT is a scarce and valuable car. Seeing them hit $1 million isn’t all that uncommon, but it is wild to see someone buy anything for $612,659 in 2019 and then turn around and sell it for $1,010,000 in less than two years. Of course, it always helps for a Hypercar to be super limited and only have 506 miles – and be a 2019 Ford GT.

How much is a Ford GT worth? 

The Ford GT is one of the most iconic cars ever made, full stop. The Ford GT has a long and dramatic history that has been told, retold, and told again over the years. It represents a classic underdog story as American’s sweetheart in the Le Mans racing series. It is also one of the few full-blown race cars that have made a prominent entrance as a road-legal car that anyone (who’s very rich) can buy and drive to work if they so please. 

All of that to be said, this rare and iconic car is still being made and sold today, and even still, a two-year-old model can nearly double in price. This 2019 Ford GT is in a particularly cool spec, but even if it weren’t so cool and such low miles, $1 million is not an uncommon price for one of these low-slung road sharks. 

This current generation of the Ford GT was released in 2015. Even though it’s been out for a while now, people still trip over themselves to buy one. But this particular example is a stand-out. 

This 2019 Ford GT is a killer

This unique (and badass) paint job cost the original buyer a cool $40k alone. It is finished in Matte Black with alloy overtop stripes. This paint choice and stripe combo match the carbon fiber trim and 20-inch carbon fiber wheels, an additional $15k option. Hiding behind the pricey wheels are carbon-ceramic brakes with custom orange calipers. According to CarScoops, this Ford GT has $117,445 in optional extras on top of the base $491,500 price tag. 

Once you get past the stunning exterior, the interior is a whole other level. The butterfly doors slide open to reveal a matching black and orange scheme from the Launch Control Package. It also has a fully exposed carbon fiber tub. No big deal. 

Given the 2019 Ford GT’s racing pedigree, the dash is fairly simple but far from boring. This is the definition of a purpose-built cabin. It is beautiful quality but a simple and non-distracting design, except for the blaze orange glove box to match the brake calipers. 

Like any good race car, the Ford GT has a fixed seat, but the pedal box and steering column are adjustable. The steering wheel is covered in Alcantara, and the Getrag’s dual-clutch gearbox is controlled by paddle shifters. 

How fast is the Ford GT?

So, this 2019 Ford GT is clearly very cool, but when the rubber hits the road, will it boogie? Uh, yeah. It boogies. 

The Ford GT comes with a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 making a massive 647 hp. Unlike many modern hypercars, the Ford GT still wants to kill you, just like the good old days. All 647 horses are sent to only the back two wheels, meaning it’s happy to break loose if you put your foot in it. 

To keep all this power usable, the 2019 Ford GT also has hydraulically adjustable pushrod suspension, active rear wing, titanium exhaust, launch control, and selectable drive modes fitted as standard. The Ford GT can make a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 216 mph. 

$1 million seems about right

The specs are one thing, but the condition is truly impeccable. Getting a new Ford GT from the factory is nearly impossible. Ford makes very few of these, and the waiting list is long. Along with everything else, this makes these cars very desirable and worthy of a nearly 100% price increase when spec’d right and kept clean.

The automotive industry is going through a bit of a crisis right now. While most potential buyers held off buying a new car in 2020, there has been a mad rush to the dealerships in 2021 for cars and SUVs like the Hyundai Palisade. Coupled with the fact that there is a shortage of new vehicles available, we have ourselves a bit of a crisis. Is the Hyundai Palisade worth paying extra for? Not really.

Consumer Reports thought the 2021 Hyundai Palisade was a solid choice. The critics gave it a score of 84 out of 100 overall and gave it the recommended stamp of approval. The Palisade came in only after the 2021 Kia Telluride on the list of midsized SUVs with three rows.

Hyundai lists the starting MSRP as $32,675 with a destination charge of $1,185 for the SE trim. That’s pretty fair for an SUV of that size. Depending on the trim level, you can expect to pay above that. The next step up is the SEL for $35,353, and the Limited is $45,275. The Calligraphy trim is the top-level, starting at $26,200.

It seems that the prices for both used and new cars have peaked at the start of the summer. With that said, is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade worth paying over MSRP for? Probably not. With 4th of July sales coming up and the 2022 models being released, wait it out.

Is Hyundai Palisade a luxury SUV?

Hyundai has been working hard on making luxury cars and SUVs more affordable for everyone. The Hyundai Palisade is a good example of that. Consumer Reports asked owners if the Palisade was worth purchasing again. 80% of owners said it was.

“The three-row Palisade is an extremely functional family vehicle, distinguished by a no-nonsense powertrain and thoughtfully designed interior. It joins the mechanically related Kia Telluride in disrupting the rankings within this popular vehicle class.”

With room for seven or eight passengers and roomy seats, the Palisade certainly feels like a luxury SUV. It also comes equipped with a bunch of safety features. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot warning are also included.

The Kia Telluride is suffering the same fate

The Kia Telluride is going through a similar situation. Since the SUV has gained popularity, the price has gone up. Dealerships that have been able to get hands on the new SUV have been able to make the vehicles up to take advantage of the situation.

One Kia was listed on a dealership website for $78,995, while the retail price was listed at $53,505. That’s a markup of over $25,490! But that isn’t the case for all Tellurides on the market—some of the vehicles sold for a normal price, depending on demand in the location.

While the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride are reliable SUVs, neither is worth paying too much extra for. Prices should start to come down as 2022 vehicles start to roll in. It might not solve the problem completely, but it will help alleviate the pressure on dealerships.
