There are a lot of fun cars in Mazda’s lineup, but the CX-5 is one of the best. It has an affordable price point for its class and is also considered one of the most reliable SUVs available. The base Mazda CX-5 sport retails for $25,370, while the fully-loaded Signature comes out to $37,505.

The great selection of both available and optional equipment contributes to the CX-5’s high score on U.S. News. Still, you don’t have to get the highest trim level to get access to great features. The thrifty Touring trim can have the optional SV Preferred package, but is it really necessary?

What does a Mazda CX-5 Sport offer?

The standard trim comes with a capable four-cylinder that makes 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission and AWD can be added for just $1,400. AWD also comes with Off-Road Traction Assist, which makes it easier to get the wheels free from deep snow or mud.

Most critics on U.S. News prefer the optional turbocharged engine, but the standard one still has plenty of pep. Adding AWD also improved the Mazda CX-5’s already exceptional handling. You might experience a stiff ride, but the CX-5 still manages to stay comfortable and quiet.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 Sport can seat up to five riders on comfortable and spacious cloth seats. The cabin materials are so upscale that you might mistake the CX-5 for a luxury car. The 10.25-inch touchscreen display is bigger than most of its rivals and features a user-friendly layout.

Tech features include smartphone integration, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and app pairing so that you can unlock your vehicle with your phone. Many of the CX-5’s safety features are included on the base trim, building even more on its value. These include forward-collision warning with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitors, and automatic emergency braking.

The Mazda CX-5 Touring’s SV Preferred Package

The Mazda CX-5 Touring is just a small upcharge from the Sport, up to $27,110. The seats are a little nicer inside this trim, made from synthetic leather with suede inserts. They also have standard heating for the front passengers, who also can enjoy dual-zone automatic climate control.

There are more seat adjustment levels for the front seats, while backseat riders gain a large center armrest. Tech features are mostly unchanged, but the Touring has two extra speakers and USB ports for rear seats.

The SV Preferred package is exclusively available for the Mazda CX-5 Touring, priced at $1,445. Every rider gets leather seats, but the front row has power-adjustability and two different memory settings. You also get an upgraded Bose 10-speaker audio system, which automatically tunes itself to filter out background noise.

A power moonroof and auto-dimming mirrors are also included, plus a universal garage door opener. Combined with the power liftgate, unloading things from the cargo bay is much easier with this package.

Is the SV Preferred Package worth the price?

Adding the SV Preferred Package onto the Mazda CX-5 Touring brings the total cost to $29,575. That’s a little more expensive than the Carbon Edition, which already comes with all the contents of the SV Preferred Package. However, this model is also only available in one color.

Overall, we think the SV Preferred Package is worth it if you don’t want to spring the higher trims. The Grand Touring trim has the 250-hp turbo-four engine but starts at $35,385. Besides a few safety features, you also won’t miss out on skipping the Grand Touring trim.

German automaker Porsche has always tailored its vehicles to suit consumers. Whether it’s leather adaptive sports seats or a sleek and modern cabin, the company aims to please. The German automaker never forgoes comfort for performance. Yet, it still manages to create powerful vehicles with a heavy focus on consumer satisfaction.

The Porsche 911 is an iconic sports car. The Porsche Cayenne is one of the most extravagant luxury crossovers available. Both vehicles have made their way into song lyrics. Now the company has decided that they will provide the music for consumers. The music has little to do with the automaker, it’s all about the driver.

The idea to create music to accompany a consumer’s driving experience came from the company’s Digital Product Owner Norman Friedenberger. He felt immersed in roads, landscapes, and scenery that he encountered on American road trips. Like anything else, he figured the experience would be better coupled with music to suit the mood.

Decades later, after the initial idea, technology has finally caught up enough to make it a reality. Drivers will now be able to listen to their own custom soundtracks based on their driving experience. But how would that even work, and what does an adaptable custom soundtrack sound like?

The new soundtrack to your life

The Soundtrack My Life project aims to create a unique driving experience curated by professionals that incorporates music into your road trip, commute, or trip to the grocery store. The company has actually invested in original compositions for every one of its custom songs. German film composer Boris Salchow is the genius behind the audio experience.

Norman Friedenberger has paid special attention to this project over the last two years. He has ensured that every audio experience is unique and makes the driver the star of their very own movie scene coupled with a quality music score. According to The Drive, this adaptive sound technology automatically adjusts to speed, acceleration, and several other factors, making the driver the conductor of their own symphony.

A new soundtrack is said to be available for every scenario and location. The Soundtrack My Life project is available via a mobile app and has been tested extensively. If consumers can afford the German automaker’s vehicles, their life is already pretty exciting.

The PCM 6.0 infotainment system’s Soundtrack My Life feature will turn normal drives into moving motion picture scenes thanks to an idea, new technology, and some of the most talented minds in the automotive industry. The reviews for this new infotainment system’s special feature will be music to Porsche’s ears.

There are plenty of RVs out there to choose from. They come in all different styles and sizes. There are motorhomes, camper vans, and trailer RV models. But this entry-level retro camper with a boat for a roof is the American Dream trailer.

The American Dream Camper Trailer | American Dream Trailer Company

If you are looking for a lightweight trailer camper with a style that accompanies your eclectic identity, the retro-inspired American Dream trailer is one to check out. For example, it’s not crazy expensive and it can be towed by a wide range of vehicles––plus the roof is a rowboat.

The American Dream trailer is a unique camper that’s perfect for almost everyone

Inspired by a throwback 1961 trailer, a fun retro style lends to the uniqueness of the American Dream camper trailer. It’s designed to offer a simple yet awesome camper experience to its owners. The American Dream trailer is small.

With just a 4’x8’ footprint, this camper trailer weighs in at just 650 pounds. It’s a fiberglass trailer and boat combo that offers a great place to camp plus a nice day of adventure on the lake. It removes the logistics hassle that bringing a camper and a boat along on the trip can often be because the boat is the roof of your camper until you actually need it.

It only sleeps two people, which is probably this camper’s biggest downside. But for family camping, there’s no reason that parents can’t sleep in the camper while the children get the real camping experience of sleeping on the ground in a tent just outside.

In addition to a sleeping area, there’s also a cooking and storage galley in the back of the camper. This is pretty typical of a teardrop camper. But on this particular camper, five latches secure the rooftop rowboat over the top of the camper which makes for easy on and easy off.

According to Campanda Magazine, buyers can fully customize the design of their American Dream trailer. In fact, there are several fun “vintage-inspired” colors to choose from. Plus, the boat can hold up to 500 lbs. There’s also a motor mount that’s prepared to take on up to 2 hp.

Who created the American Dream?

The American Dream trailer came about when a husband and wife team decided to replicate the 1961 fiberglass “Trailerboat.” While the American Dream camper trailer might seem like a totally novel idea, it’s actually inspired by a truly retro camper that also had an “integrated rowboat roof.”

“The company partnered with a local metalsmith and fiberglass company to manufacture the mid-century-styled chassis, molds and windows.”

Campanda Magazine

They are Portland-based and it takes about six weeks to build one of these camper trailers from start to finish. To some, this may seem like a long time. However, the build time is due to the quality assurance and authenticity standards to which these trailers are held.

Overall, this camper trailer is totally ready to party and prepared for lake days all summer. Even better, the American Dream starts at just $12,180. This is a camper that’s also a boat. In addition, it offers a unique retro style to enhance your camping adventures. In fact, the American Dream retro camper trailers are one of the coolest camper options out there.

The only downside to this trailer is that I had a difficult time tracking down recent information about the company. So if you want one of these, you may actually have to peruse the net until you find one used.

Range anxiety is a very real problem for electric vehicle (EV) owners. While it’s not a problem that affects all EV owners, it’s one that many do experience. But what is range anxiety actually? And how can EV owners overcome range anxiety altogether? Let’s find out.

What is EV range anxiety?

If you’re unfamiliar with the term, range anxiety is the feeling an EV owner experiences when their EV is low on power, and there isn’t a charging station readily available. According to J.D. Power, range anxiety often leaves EV owners worrying over whether or not they’re on the verge of being stranded.

As for why EV owners experience range anxiety from time to time? J.D. Power reports that a lack of charging stations is to blame. However, a change in routine can result in EV range anxiety too. For example, say an EV owner doesn’t fully charge their EV. Depending on what they plan on doing that day, they may need to charge their EV. And if there isn’t a readily available charging station? They may find themselves experiencing a bout of range anxiety.

Buying a plug-in hybrid can cure range anxiety

The good news is that there are a few practical ways to overcome range anxiety as an EV owner. One of them is to skip buying an EV and, instead, buy a new plug-in hybrid. According to Charged Future, most plug-in hybrids deliver about 20-40 miles of electric range and approximately 300+ miles of gas range. “Combined, a PHEV is the perfect blend for those looking to use electric range for commuting or around town trips and gas for long trips,” Charged Future added.

There are plenty of new plug-in hybrids on the market today too. In fact, TrueCar recently highlighted its picks for the best plug-in hybrid cars of 2021. Among them were vehicles such as the 2021 Hyundai Ioniq and the 2021 Toyota Prius Prime.

While the 2021 Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid delivers up to 52 mpg combined city/highway and up to 119 MPGe combined city/highway, the 2021 Toyota Prius Prime delivers an EPA-estimated 54 mpg combined city/highway and 133 MPGe combined city/highway.

Cure range anxiety by joining a national charging network

For those who already own an EV, trading it in for a plug-in hybrid might not be an option. The good news is that’s not the only way to cure EV range anxiety. Rather than making a trade, EV owners should also consider joining a national charging network, J.D. Power reports.

“Charging station networks offer smartphone apps that you can use to find an open station. Set up the smartphone app to automatically pay for charging, and you’ll pull in, connect, charge, and go without swiping a credit card or handing over cash to a clerk.”

J.D. Power

EV owners can also find EV charging stations near them by using Google Maps. First, enter an address into Google Maps. Next, select ‘Nearby’ below the address that you entered. Then, search ‘EV charging stations.’ Google Maps will then show nearby EV charging stations.

The benefits of good EV charging habits

Good charging habits can also help EV owners overcome range anxiety. In fact, according to data gathered by J.D. Power, The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy estimates more than 80% of EV charging happens overnight at home. Therefore, EV owners should get into the routine of charging their EV every night before bed to overcome range anxiety further, says J.D. Power.
