One of the most iconic Volkswagen cars is set to be completely redesigned for the 2022 model year. The Volkswagen GTI is surprisingly affordable despite its racecar-like handling, capable engine, and luxury interior. For 2022, it will reportedly have updated technology and even better performance specs.

One thing that probably won’t return is the two-door option for the VW GTI. According to Car and Driver, the automaker wanted to shift its focus to four-door models, which were more popular amongst consumers. While some people might miss the two-door GTI, the 2021 model still has a lot to offer.

The two-door 2016 Volkswagen GTI

For this model year, the Volkswagen GTI has a 210-hp turbo-four paired with a six-speed manual transmission. You could also opt for an automatic six-speed gearbox, and a performance package to add 10 additional ponies to the engine. Every 2016 GTI has an adjustable suspension that can be tuned for maximum enjoyment on the track or daily driving.

The GTI coupe is lighter than its four-door counterpart, giving it slightly better handling. The engine provides consistent acceleration and tackling sharp corners is easy inside the GTI. Gas mileage isn’t particularly remarkable, rated for 25/34 mpg city/highway at best.

While all 2016 GTI models are now cheaper on the used market, the two-door model was less expensive upon its release. Car and Driver reports that this version was $600 cheaper than the four-door GTI. However, it was more difficult to locate in showrooms because it had to be ordered through VW’s website.

These models received some impressive new tech for this year, like standard smartphone integration, Bluetooth, and a touchscreen infotainment interface. However, the 2016 Volkswagen GTI is considered to be less reliable compared to other years.

The 2017 model’s popularity

2017 may have been the Volkswagen Golf GTI coupe’s final year, but a GTI Sport was introduced. This model featured the performance package as standard equipment, adding extra horsepower and upgraded brakes. A limited-slip differential was also included, and fans were relieved to find that the manual transmission wasn’t phased out.

The 2017 Sport model has some flashier exterior elements, like LED running lights and Nogaro wheels with blacked-out caps. Disappointingly, you couldn’t have the performance package on the 2017 Volkswagen GTI coupe. The two-door model was only available as a standard S trim.

The latest Volkswagen GTI has a slightly peppier engine, capable of 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The six-speed manual is still there, but drivers can now opt for a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Both are good matches for the engine, but the manual undoubtedly gives thrill-seekers the best experience.

GTIs with the manual transmission get the worst gas mileage, down to 23/30 mpg city/highway. Even though it’s a sportier model, its ride is quite comfortable. Riders can sit on either cloth or leather seats, both of which come with heating for the cabin occupants. Both rows are accommodating enough for taller passengers.

The 2021 Volkswagen GTI is still slightly outdated in terms of technology, evident from its 6.5-inch touchscreen. You can upgrade to an 8-inch screen, but the graphics are still grainy and don’t always react in time to inputs. The base trim still has a decent selection of both convenience and safety tech.

While VW apparently doesn’t see the merit of offering two-door models, coupes are far from out of style. The popular Toyota Supra is available exclusively as a coupe, while Mustangs and Porsche models offer two-seaters as well. With enough interest, Volkswagen might reconsider its perspective on a future Volkswagen GTI coupe.

Pickup trucks are some of the most exciting EVs on the market. They’re already racking up sales with huge preorder events. Rugged vehicles built for off-roading have exploded in popularity at the same time. Camping, off-roading, and overlanding have created a demand for adventure vehicles, and the Alpha Wolf+ Cloudbreak answers that call.

Meet the cheapest electric pickup truck on the market today

Alpha Wolf+ Cloudbreak | Alpha Motors

Alpha Motors has developed a capable and affordable electric pickup truck. The Wolf+ is expected to have a range of about 275 miles. Dual-motor all-wheel-drive gives the Wolf+ the grit to go off-road. With a maximum towing capacity of 6724 lbs means the Wolf is suitable for light-duty work.

This light-weight electric truck packs some power and quick acceleration, going from zero to 60 in a neat 5.6 seconds. Built-in battery heating and cooling mean consistent performance in all climates. Alpha lists rapid charging as a feature of the Wolf+, but a specific charging time has not been estimated.

The Wolf+ seats 4 adventurers. The truck has 40 cubic feet of gear storage. The wide center display and digital instrument readouts give this truck’s cab a modern feel. The Wolf+ will be a comfortable and capable electric truck.

A Heimplanet collaboration creates an overlanding experience

The Alpha Wolf+ is a solid adventure machine on its own. Add a lightweight, roomy and practical tent, and it’s an instant campsite. Setting up camp in a truck bed means there’s secure storage and plenty of power close at hand.

German outdoor equipment Heimplanet makes some of the most exciting camping gear on the planet. In collaboration with the California-based automaker Alpha Motor Company, they’ve designed a striking truck bed tent. The geodesic structure turns the electric pickup into the ultimate camping setup.

The truck bed becomes fully enclosed and can be used as a sleeping platform. Dual entry through wide doorways makes the domed structure easy to enter and exit. Its rainfly is mad with Rip-Stop polyester. A maximum height of 91 inches means even the tallest campers will be comfortable in this roomy space.

Alpha Motor Company offers more than trucks

The two-door coupe Ace is one of the most visually striking modern cars. Some have compared it to a cartoon or a famous game piece. The Ace has a respectable range of 250 miles. It accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 6 seconds. Alpha’s Ace has a modern and stylish interior.

The 250-mile range Jax is a rugged 4×4 SUV. This off-road-ready vehicle is outfitted with a roof rack for outdoor gear. This SUV is slightly slower than its siblings, going from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. Dual motor all-wheel-drive makes this 4×4 as of-road ready as the Wolf+.

Off-road electric vehicles are set to take over a fair share of the market. They capitalize on two current trends, EVs and outdoor-based traveling. Alpha’s collaboration with Heimplanet in the Cloudbreak brings together the two worlds beautifully in a truck that can easily serve as a daily driver or light work vehicle.

The Ford E-Series van, also known as the Econoline, was Ford’s cargo and passenger van until the Ford Transit replaced it in 2015. These large vans are often used for camper conversions and commercial use. The Ford E-Series was discontinued, but it remains popular on the used market. How many miles will a Ford E-Series van last?

When buyers begin researching used vehicles, the amount of miles on the odometer is one of the most important details. Due to the fact that these vans are often used for things like camper van conversions, carpooling, road-tripping, and commercial mobility, they often enter the used market with quite a few miles on them. It’s paramount to learn how many miles a used vehicle has left to give.

“The Econoline began its development as design sketches from 1957 and was introduced as a cargo van, passenger van, and a pickup truck.”

Ford produced the E-Series van in many different sizes and configurations for the duration of its production. In fact, according to Car and Driver, the Ford E-Series was in production for 60 years. Throughout its four generations, the Ford E-Series van gained a reputation for durability.

But how many miles can an E-Series model really go? Motor and Wheels reports that “It’s not unusual to get 500,000 miles on these models when properly taken care of.” With a good regular maintenance program and some TLC, the Econoline vans can last far into high mileage territory.

Motor and Wheels shares that these vans can last about 15-18 years. That’s a pretty long time. However, there are also instances in which the Ford E-Series will not last so long. Things like towing large trailers, or neglecting the proper care schedule typically results in a reduced life span for Ford’s Econoline van.

In fact, vans that are not well maintained have difficulty reaching 300,000 miles. In addition, sometimes the Ford E-Series can develop costly issues and some owners decide it’s better to just buy a new van than pay the high repair fees. But, in general, major issues are largely caused by poor maintenance or overworking the system due to towing loads that are heavier than intended for your particular van.

What is the Ford E-Series?

“The E-series vans were the top-selling models in the United States between 1980 and 2015 with the model line’s discontinuation.”

Car and Driver

The Ford E-Series is a lineup of Ford vans designed for commercial use. They are configured as passenger vans, cargo vans, and chassis are used for small buses and ambulances. They are specifically designed to carry either people or tools.

However, they have also become very popular for camper van conversions. This is partly because they are easy to find on the used market for good prices. In addition, because of the longevity of the average Ford E-Series van, the Econoline makes a great camper van because it’s built to last for hundreds of thousands of miles.

If you close your eyes and imagine what kind of car a royal family member would drive, chances are you picture something exclusive and expensive. However, back in the early 1980s, Princess Diana drove a modest Ford Escort around. In fact, this sensible Ford was an engagement gift from Prince Charles. However, this car went missing for about 20 years before resurfacing.

According to the BBC, this infamous machine now heads to auction at the end of this month. As you might imagine, everyone involved expects this car to attract big money.

Princess Diana received this Ford Escort as a gift at the beginning of the 1980s. In fact, there are several photos of her happily driving her sensible Ford around. According to Motor1, she used this car as her daily driver until 1982. If you’re looking for a clue as to how this car stands out, look closely, and you’ll spot a silver frog on its hood. According to Motor1, this ornament served as a copy of a gift the Princess received from her sister.

While this Ford Escort is certainly a sensible ride, Princess Diana had better taste in cars. In fact, she also drove an Audi 80 Cabriolet finished in dark green. Aside from being a stylish Audi, Car and Driver report that it was one of the most photographed cars of the 1990s. However, her Audi had a well-documented history, whereas this Escort went missing.

According to the BBC, Princess Diana’s Ford Escort vanished for well over 20 years before popping up for sale now. In fact, the current owner went to great lengths to keep the car’s location a secret, not even letting her close friends know about the car’s true history. Thanks to this secrecy, no one knew where this car was hiding or what condition it’s in.

Thankfully, this Ford Escort is in fairly original condition. In fact, the BBC reports that the car still features its original paintwork and upholstery. In total, this sensible hatchback has covered over 83,000 miles during its time on the road. Judging from the auction photos published by Reman Dansie, the car looks quite sharp, especially when we consider that it’s 40 years old.
