The 2021 Acura RDX Makes This List Despite Its Lack of Standard Features
The 2021 Acura RDX is a compact luxury SUV that impresses consumers with its stylish interior and affordable price tag. Generating 272 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, the superb performance of its four-cylinder turbocharged engine stands out in a crowded segment.
The model’s upscale cabin interior is comfortable for drivers and passengers alike, but the lack of standard features is surprising for a luxury SUV of this caliber. Regardless, the 2021 Acura RDX still found a spot on this highly-respected industry list.
The 2021 Acura RDX is a luxurious SUV
US News named the Acura RDX as one of the “Most Luxurious SUVs for 2021.” The 2021 Acura RDX received an interior score of 8.2 out of 10, with an overall score of 8.1 out of 10.
The use of high-quality materials and first-class styling in the cabin bears a resemblance to the sportier Acura NSX supercar. This focus on its interior design keeps this top-selling Acura at the top of the list for consumers looking for a reliable luxury SUV.
The vehicle interior is an integral part of how US News ranks models and assigns luxury ratings. The trusted auto reviewer evaluates passenger space, design, comfort, quality, cargo capacity, and available features when giving an interior score. They are quick to point out that “just because a certain SUV is bigger and more expensive doesn’t necessarily mean it’s more extravagant.”
What the Acura RDX is missing
The 2021 Acura RDX luxury SUV has a standard features list that holds it back a bit from the competition. The five-passenger RDX has adequate safety technology, but features such as blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic alert are optional. Most vehicles in this class include them as standard features.
The Acura RDX also misses the mark with its split-screen infotainment system. While the 10.2-inch display and connectivity apps are impressive, the True Touchpad controller is awkward to operate. Ultimately, the Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility pick up the slack.
Pricing and available configurations
Currently, in its third generation, Kelley Blue Book calls the RDX premium-compact SUV an “attractive combination of practicality, dependability, and athleticism with a comfortable ride and unmistakable value.”
The 2021 Acura RDX has an MSRP base price of $38,400 with the option of either a four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive powertrain. The luxury SUV is also available in four configurations. The entry-level base model comes with faux leather upholstery, heated front seats, satellite radio, and the AcuraWatch safety system.
The Technology Package features pewter gray alloy wheels, a 12-speaker premium audio system, blind-spot monitoring with advanced safety features, and a leather-trimmed interior. The MSRP for the Technology Package model is $41,300.
The Acura RDX A-Spec Package has an MSRP of $44,300 for FWD and $46,300 for AWD. In addition to the Technology Package, the A-Spec also includes 20-inch split-spoke wheels, exclusive design styling for the front and rear bumpers, and LED fog lights. Additionally, a black grille with A-spec badging gives this RDX a high-end feel. Elsewhere, the ventilated and heated seating adds premium comfort for the driver and passengers.
The 2021 Acura RDX Advance Package ranges between $46,200 and $48,200. It includes all the above-listed features, along with an adaptive damper system, premium windshield wipers, and a hands-free power-operated tailgate. The head-up display features an impressive 10.5-inch screen, and wood interior trim throughout accentuates the upscale interior. A surround-view camera and 16-speaker audio system nicely round out the Advanced Package.
Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) is available for an additional $2,000 surcharge and is available on all trim levels.
Only 360 of the limited PMC edition Acura RDX models were made, with a starting price of $51,000. MotorTrend called the orange SUV “as bright as cheesy Cheetos and fun to drive.”
