The 2022 Toyota Tacoma Provides Increased Off-Roading Power

by Gabrielle DeSantis

We are with you Toyota Tacoma fans. We love this mid-size off-roading truck for its dependability and off-roading capabilities. Let’s keep this party going by checking out what’s new for the 2022 Toyota Tacoma

What’s new for the 2022 Toyota Tacoma?

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma is even more capable than before with off-roading upgrades. The lifted Tacoma models, including the Trail Edition and TRD Pro, both sit a half-inch taller in the back.

The Trail Edition sits 1.1 inches taller in the front, while the Tacoma TRD Pro sits 1.5 inches taller in the front. Both models benefit from an increased approach, breakover, and departure angles with the extra height advantage.

With the new Tacoma Trail edition, the approach angle is 34 degrees, the departure angle increases to 23.6 degrees, and the breakover angle is 26.4 degrees. With the TRD Pro, the approach angle is improved to 36.4 degrees with a 24.7-degree departure angle and 26.6-degree breakover angle.

What do the Trail Edition and TRD Pro include?

The new 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition is based on the SR5 model. Only it includes standard four-wheel drive, a suspension lift, a heritage-style grille, and bronze exterior accents. It also has a locking rear differential.

Plus, you get installed cargo bed storage, and the Trail Edition sits on 16-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear all-terrain tires. The Trail Edition is available in several colors, including Lunar Rock, Army Green, Super White, and Midnight Black.

Opting for the TRD Pro trim provides a few extra goodies, such as new TRD-tuned Fox internal bypass shocks. You also get new forged aluminum upper control arms to leverage the extra rebound stroke that accompanies the extra modifications.

Visual upgrades feature 16-inch black aluminum wheels wrapped in Goodyear Territory All-Terrain tires, refreshed exterior graphics and badges, and TRD PRO stampings on both sides of the cargo bed.

Plus, as you may have noticed, the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro shines bright in a new shade of Electric Lime! This truck will be hard to miss. Other TRD Pro colors include Magnetic Grey, Midnight Black, and Super White.

What else is happening for the 2022 Tacoma?

Toyota hasn’t announced any other changes for the 2022 Tacoma yet. We were hopeful that the Toyota Tacoma turbo-diesel rumor would come true, but so far, the same engines are being carried over. The 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque.

You can upgrade to the 3.5-liter V6 engine for 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, the Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,685 lbs. This is a little behind rivals, but it’s plenty of power for hauling mid-size campers and boats.

The base model features a 7.0-inch display, but all other trims come with an 8.0-inch screen. Apple Carplay and Android Auto come standard, while multiple USB ports and wireless charging are optional.

Pricing for the 2022 Toyota Tacoma hasn’t been released. The 2021 model has an MSRP of $26,400. We wouldn’t be surprised if the price increases by a few hundred dollars and can’t wait to see what the improved off-roading trims can do.
