Which 2021 Lucid Air Trim Is the Best Option?

by Gabrielle DeSantis

The 2021 Lucid Air is a luxury electric car designed to rival competitors like Tesla. The 2021 Lucid Air is available in four spectacular trims ranging from $69,900 to $161,500. It boasts an incredible range and massive power, but which trim should consumers look into?

There’s a new EV brand in town

Lucid Motors first announced their EV, the Air, back in 2016. The company experienced setback after setback trying to bring a quality, luxury vehicle to market. It seems consumers are finally able to own a Lucid Air after years of waiting.

Every iteration of the EV surpasses previous expectations because of the estimated EPA range. The Lucid Air has made history, and the company fully intends on capitalizing on the EV’s unique features by offering trims to suit every consumer. So it’s more than a battle for the better electric car. It’s a battle for the better electric brand. Lucid’s Air Pure leads the charge.

The Lucid Air Pure: pure bliss

The Lucid Air Pure is the first of four unique trims. The Air Pure has a projected range of 406 miles. This number may seem arbitrary, but that range is further than the Tesla Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y! It makes 480 hp and is described as a balance of comfort, performance, and long range.

The Lucid Air Pure starts at $69,900, comparable to the $69,420 2021 Tesla Model S. The Air Pure is very much the entry point into the company’s extensive line of luxury electric vehicles. But is it enough to compete for the throne of the most common daily EV?

Lucid Air Touring: real horses

The Lucid Air Touring is where the automaker really starts to show off their power. While the 480 hp Air Pure is impressive, it cannot touch the Air Touring. The Air Touring has the same estimated EPA range of 406 miles as the Air Pure. When it comes to power, however, it’s in a whole other league.

The Air Touring makes a whopping 620 hp. To put that number into perspective, the BMW 2021 BMW M5 Competition makes 617 horsepower. The Air Touring is also much cheaper than the BMW M5 Competition. It starts at $87,500. This is a $17,600 leap from the Air Pure, but it is also a 140 hp difference.

Lucid Air Grand Touring: a legend is born

The Lucid Air Grand Touring is big money, but it does big things that could be worth the spend depending on the driver. It makes 800 hp and can do 0-60mph in 3.0 seconds. Not only is it fast, but the range also improves from the Air Pure and Air Touring. The Air Grand Touring can go as far as 517 miles.

With top speeds of 168 mph, according to MotorTrend, there isn’t much more a driver could want from an EV. It’s fast, it goes unbelievably far, and it was designed with luxury and comfort in mind. But, unfortunately, it is also $131,500. The Air Grand Touring is second only to the most expensive of the Lucid Motors Models: the Lucid Air Dream Edition.

The Dream Edition: what dreams are made of

The Dream Edition is Lucid Motors’ kitchen sink model. It’s performance-ready and comfortable. It makes a ridiculous 1,080 hp. This model is the supercar that people save as their phone lock screens to envision their dream cars.

The range is slightly lower than the Grand Touring’s 517-mile range at 503 miles, but 1,080 hp? Really? The Lucid Air Dream Edition is aptly named because at a starting price of $161,500, most consumers will only be driving this EV in their dreams.

Which is the best trim?

The price ranges are extreme, and the differences in horsepower are just as large. The Air Dream Edition is easily the most powerful in terms of performance, with its 1,080 hp. Unfortunately, it is also the least attainable for the average consumer.

The Air Grand Touring is where the difference in range comes into play, moving from 406 miles all the way to 517 miles. If consumers are in a place where they can overlook the $130,000+ price tag, the Air Grand Touring is the best option because it has incredible range and horsepower. It may be expensive, but it delivers as a luxury EV with great performance specs.

The Air Pure is the most accessible to the average consumer and is still a great option. The only factor stopping it from being the best option Lucid Motors offers is its range and hp compared to the insane specs of Lucid’s higher trims. Still, as far as EVs, the Air pure is a great vehicle. It just isn’t the Grand Touring.
