Why Is the Mini Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss Banned in America?
As tiny trucks become more popular, we get to see the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz enter the spotlight. But where is the compact Chevrolet option? We found a single cab Chevy Silverado Trail Boss, but we can’t have it.
We need the single cab Chevy Silverado Trail Boss
If you’ve ever wanted an off-roading truck in a tinier package, then you can go for mid-size options like the Toyota Tacoma. Perhaps off-roading trims for the Hyundai Santa Cruz and ford Maverick will be available soon as well.
However, General Motors makes a tiny Chevy Silverado Trail Boss that we can’t have. The little off-roading truck is even manufactured in America! But then they are shipped off to other countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The demand for smaller trucks is increasing, but maybe this little Chevrolet fails to meet emission standards in the United States. Vehicles are required to meet fuel-economy regulations based on size.
What is the mini Trail Boss like?
A shop known as JC Wheels in Mexico created an unofficial tiny Chevy Silverado Trail Boss. They took a T1 Silverado regular cab short box and provided upgrades to enhance its off-roading capabilities.
They used a bare-bones Silverado 1500 and placed a front clip from a Trail Boss to the nose, added a 3-inch suspension lift, added step bars, and 22-inch accessory wrapped 35-inch Toyo M/T tires. They also added Trail Boss badging to help this truck look the part. In the Middle East, the Silverado Trail Boss has a few extra goodies such as skid plates, monotube shocks, and a 2.0-inch lift.
People often want a smaller truck for off-roading because a shorter wheelbase can be better for climbing over obstacles. Plus, larger trucks like the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX can be too wide for narrow trails and too heavy for soft sediment.
But don’t lose hope. Bob Krapes, Director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing, shared with GM Authority that they will work on and certainly care about the demand for a short-bed Silverado in the United States.
What about the big Trail Boss?
While a smaller Chevy Silverado Trail Boss or another compact option known as the Chevy Montana might be on the way, we’re waiting to learn more. We do know that a massive Trail Boss is coming out for 2022. So you can go big before you go small.
The 2022 Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss is gaining a diesel option. This truck will be available with a 3.0-liter Duramax I-6 engine with 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. You may want to jump on a diesel option now before General Motors gets rid of them all by 2035.
With the 2022 Trail Boss, you get a 2-inch suspension lift, off-roading tuned shocks, a G80 locking differential, skid plates, red tow hooks, and Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires. Plus, you get Trail Boss badges and unique styling elements.
The larger Trail Boss model is expected to arrive in dealerships this fall. But it could face Coronasvirus (COVID-19) or semiconductor chip-related delays. Also, we’re still waiting to learn more about Chevrolet’s compact option in America.
