What Are the Most Underrated Supercars?
Much like a list of overrated supercars, the most underrated supercars is pretty subjective. Some of the cars on this list might be considered underrated due to the scarcity alone. How often do you see a Lexus supercar on the road? Not very often, right? Ferrari made about 350 of the Ferarri F50, which makes it even rarer.
A criminally underrated supercar, the Lexus LFA
The Lexus LFA is quite elusive. Lexus made the LFA from 2010 through 2012. It had a V10 engine that was very different from a Lexus you could find on a car lot. According to Wikipedia, only about 500 cars were produced, with the Nürburgring Package model being the final version. Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) made up 65% of the body. This helped make the Lexus LFA one of the most expensive Japanese cars ever built. Alain Uyttenhoven of Lexus Europe noted there would be no follow-up to the LFA. “The LFA is an icon now and possibly always will be – we don’t need to replace it to keep that status. It is a car we can reference for another 25 years if we choose.”
Is the Acura NSX a supercar?
What’s not to love about the Acura NSX? The classic version ran from 1990 through 2005, and the second generation launched in 2016. The NSX name meant “New,” “Sportscar,” “Unknown (X) World,” according to the Wikipedia page. Gordon Murray, who designed the McLaren F1, claimed he used the NSX as inspiration when designing the F1. Acura called North American models the Acura NSX.
The first generation came with a 2.3L V6. The first generation was discontinued in 2005. The second generation came with a 2.5L twin-turbo V6 engine and got close to 600 horsepower combined with three electric motors. Honda called the second generation the Honda NSX. Only 1,386 were sold in the U.S. through 2020. In Europe, Honda sold only 215 in the same time frame.
Is the Ferarri F50 better than the F40?

The Ferrari F50 obviously came after the F40, which some people find an overrated supercar. Whatever your preference, the F50 was pretty sweet. From 1995 through 1997, Ferrari made the F50. It came with a 4.7L naturally aspirated V12 engine. Ferrari originally used this engine in the Formula 1 car, the Ferrari 641. Wikipedia says Ferrari created only 349 of these cars, and the last one left the factory in July of 1997.
How many of the BMW 850CSi were made?
The BMW 850CSi was part of BMW’s 8 Series, built from 1992 through 1996, says Wikipedia. It came with a 5.6L V12, and the 850CSi was only available with the six-speed manual transmission. Road & Track recorded a 0-60 mile per hour time as 5.9 seconds, which was insane for that year. Only 1,510 BMW 850CSi were made as it was considered a top-of-the-line trim.
The underrated supercars on this list might be ones that you never get to see in person. However, now that you know what to look for, perhaps one will pop up. The most likely suspect is a new NSX. While these vehicles don’t have the same history as the first generation, Acura did a fairly good job reviving the sportscar.
