SUVs with third-row seating can be a necessity for some families, but they can also be quite expensive. This is largely because SUVs that can seat eight people also tend to be big SUVs, and that size drives up the price. However, the 2021 Subaru Ascent isn’t that big of an SUV, and as such, it can seat eight people comfortably without breaking the bank.

The 2021 Subaru Ascent seats 8 people affordably

Like U.S. News wrote, with the Subaru Ascent’s starting price tag of just over $32,000, the Ascent is easily one of the most affordable options when it comes to SUVs that can seat eight people. This largely has to do with the fact that, unlike some SUVs, third-row seating isn’t an option, it’s standard for the Ascent. On top of that, while full-size SUVs typically come with third-row seating as standard, the Ascent isn’t a full-size SUV.

Rather, the Ascent is a midsize SUV, and that size difference accounts for a lot of the price difference.

For example, the Chevy Suburban, which is a full-size SUV that can also seat eight people as standard, starts at about $52,000. That’s a nearly $20,000 price difference despite the fact that both SUVs can seat eight people as standard.

With that being said, the size difference between the Subaru Ascent and other full-size SUVs will lead to some differences in the interior. However, like U.S. News wrote, even though the Ascent is a midsize SUV, its seats are still roomy and comfortable.

Full-size SUVs may provide even more room, but for many customers, as long as the seats aren’t cramped, then they’re good enough. That’s exactly the case with the Ascent.

Not only are the Ascent’s seats spacious enough for most folks, but its interior is pretty good too. For example, when it comes to cargo capacity, the Ascent’s pretty spacious. With its seats folded down, it gets 86.5 cu. ft. of cargo space, which is one of the best cargo capacities in its class. The Ascent also has a 6.5-inch touchscreen display as standard, and it commands Subaru’s Starlink infotainment system.

On top of that, creature comforts like a tri-zone automatic climate control system and keyless entry are standard as well, among other features. Furthermore, the Ascent, like other Subarus, also has a lot of standard smart safety features.

According to U.S. News, smart safety features such as forward automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure and sway warning are standard, just to name a few.

An overview of the Subaru Ascent’s trims and pricing

While the standard Subaru Ascent and its $32,000 price tag may be a steal for some folks, others may want to spend a little bit more to get extra features on their new Subaru. For those folks, Subaru has three trims available on the Ascent. There’s the $35,000 Premium trim, the $40,000 Limited trim, and the $45,000 Touring trim.

For each of those trims, shoppers can opt to replace the second row of their Ascent with two captain chairs instead of a bench. This will reduce the max seating capacity of the Ascent to seven, but it’ll definitely increase the comfort for those sitting in the second row. That said, the Touring trim is only available with this seven-seat configuration.

In any case, these trims will all upgrade the interior of the Ascent, while the engine will remain the same. Depending on the trim, the Ascent’s seats can be leather instead of cloth, some seats can be heated, and some seats can be ventilated as well. Other premium upgrades include an 8-inch touchscreen as well as a navigation system.

The 2021 Subaru Ascent certainly isn’t a bad choice for a midsize SUV with the eight-passenger seating you might need.

When it comes to large SUVs, few can stack up to the 2021 Chevy Suburban. Not only is it a popular and well-known SUV, but it’s also an SUV that Americans want. This is because the 2021 Chevy Suburban has some great standard features, and it can also seat quite a few people extremely comfortably.

The 2021 Chevy Suburban can seat up to 9 passengers

Like U.S. News wrote, when it comes to the full-size SUVs on the market, most automakers limit the number of seats available to just eight. There are two seats in the front, and then two rows of bench seats, for a total of eight seats available. For the Suburban, eight seats is standard, but that may not be enough for some families.

That’s why, according to U.S. News, Chevy actually offers an option that’ll replace the front-row seats with another bench. With three rows of bench seats, the Suburban can seat up to nine people in relative comfort. The Suburban is one of a few SUVs that have that option, and it’s no surprise that the GMC Yukon, which is nearly identical to the Suburban, also has that option.

With that being said, there are actually a few pros and cons to getting the nine-seat option on the Suburban.

Only available on the base trim

According to The Drive, the Chevy Suburban’s front bench option is only available on the base trim of the car. This means that if folks want access to some of the fancier and more extravagant trims, then they’re out of luck if they also want to seat nine people. However, the plus side is that it’s actually a pretty cheap option. The Drive wrote that it will cost just $250 to equip the Suburban with the front bench instead of the standard two seats.

While that’s a very affordable price to pay, the Suburban’s trims are worth considering too. For example, if the total amount of seats isn’t a big deal, then the Suburban can actually come with just seven seats and second-row captain’s chairs. While this configuration of the Suburban has fewer seats than usual, the seats themselves are more luxurious and more comfortable than before.

The Suburban’s top-tier trims, such as the Premier trim or the High Country trim, will cost between $65,000 to $75,000, and they’ll do more than just make the Suburban more comfortable.

For example, the High Country trim comes with a bigger and more powerful V8 engine, and that may be appealing for some folks. However, for many, that engine upgrade and the comfort upgrades aren’t really necessary.

The standard 2021 Chevy Suburban is pretty great

Like The Drive wrote, the standard Chevy Suburban is no slouch. After all, U.S. News gave the Suburban a great overall ranking in its segment. This is largely because the base Suburban comes with quite a few standard features while being at a generally affordable price tag. U.S. News said that the Suburban starts at about $52,000, which means that the nine-seat option will barely make a dent in its total price tag.

For example, a great aspect about all full-size SUVs is how much cargo capacity they have, and the Suburban is no different. With its seats folded down, it has a max cargo capacity of 144.7 cu. ft. In fact, U.S. News said that this was more cargo room than almost every other large SUV.

That’s not the only thing that’s big about the Suburban. U.S. News also said that it comes standard with a 10.2-inch touchscreen display. That touchscreen is also paired up with a lot of smart standard safety features, such as forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and rear parking sensors, just to name a few things.

If you’re looking for a combination of size and comfort, it’s hard to go wrong with the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban.

The all-new Ford F-150 Lightning has been out for less than a month at the time of writing. Despite this, a new study found that it is already the most impressive truck amongst American truck buyers. With a sub-$40,000 base price, the F-150 is certainly one of the cheapest new electric trucks money can buy. However, how does the rest of the competition stack up?

According to PIPLSAY, 57 percent of the folks surveyed answered that they were, in fact, excited for the arrival of the Lightning next year. Furthermore, a surprising amount of Americans answered that they have plans to purchase an electric truck in the near future.

How impressive is the Ford F-150 Lightning?

Since the Ford F-150 Lighting is based on America’s best-selling vehicle, it’s no surprise that buyers are interested. However, this PIPLSAY study went above and beyond to ask Americans which new electric pickup truck is most impressive. This includes competitors such as the Tesla Cybertruck, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Hummer, Rivian R1T, Atlis Motors Vehicles XT, Lordstown Endurance, and the Bollinger Motors B2.

According to the study, 32 percent of Americans said the Ford F-150 Lightning was the most impressive brand-new truck. 24 percent said they were most impressed by the Tesla Cybertruck, and 23 percent said the same as the Chevy Silverado. This last contender is particularly odd since Chevy hasn’t officially revealed an all-electric Silverado yet.

From there, 12 percent said the GMC Hummer was most impressive. The Rivian R1T, Atlis XT, and Lordstown Endurance shared the same three percent score. The Bollinger B2 landed in last place by impressing only two percent of Americans. This is particularly problematic for the B2 since it is by far the most expensive truck on offer.

A surprising 25 percent of Americans answered that they are looking to purchase an electric pickup truck in the near future. As a result, the Ford F-150 Lightning will have to deal with some stiff competition. Despite this, 25 percent of Americans answered that they would look at the Lightning as their first electric pickup truck. Following in its heels is the Tesla Cybertruck with 24 percent.

From there, we’ve got the Chevrolet Silverado with 23 percent and GMC Hummer with 12 percent. This stat is particularly interesting since the Silverado technically doesn’t exist. However, the Hummers near-$80,000 base price most likely puts off most average potential buyers.

Rounding up the list is the Rivian R1T with five percent, the Atlis XT with four percent, the Lordswotn Endurance with four percent, and the Bollinger B2 with three percent. Above all else, we’re likely seeing the positive effects of brand loyalty, seeing as all of the competitors in this list bring unique elements to the table.

While this study covering the Ford F-150 Lightning is certainly interesting, it highlights a unique problem. That’s the 31 percent of Americans that stated they wouldn’t consider an electric vehicle at all. While this stat will likely change in the near future, it shows that most of the population still isn’t on board with an electric future. However, to change that, these trucks will have to offer greater performance capabilities than their internal combustion counterparts.

If you’re eyeing the midsize sedans for 2021, you more than likely also have an eye on the 2021 Nissan Altima. This popular sedan got a facelift in 2019 and continues to impress in many circles. But selecting your trim and equipment means first knowing what all is available in 2021. We did the heavy lifting for you. You’ll be thrilled to learn just how easy picking your 2021 Nissan Altima trim really is. If you know what you want, and maybe even what you don’t want, the choice of trim is a walk in the park.

What are the 2021 Nissan Altima trims?

The 2021 Nissan Altima’s standard engine configuration is the 2.5-liter four-cylinder, capable of harnessing 188 hp, and it’s a front-wheel-drive sedan. But there’s more. Edmunds lays out all five available trims, and with a few of them, a powertrain upgrade is available. Choose from the S, the SV, the SR, the SL, or the Platinum.

Should you land on the SV, the SR, or the SL, you can select the all-wheel-drive model. Platinum level trims come with the AWD standard. And if you want more engine power, you can experience the 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 236 hp in the SR trim.

Why picking a Nissan Altima trim is easy

The Edmunds team says the base level trim is very basic. And they like the turbocharged engine, unfortunately only available on the SR trim. But in the end, the trim choice is easy for most consumers who will appreciate the extensive roster of standard features that come with the SV level trim.

Making the SV trim even more attractive is the Safety Shield 360 platform of driver aids. It’s not available on the very entry-level S trim. It does, however, come standard with every other version of the Altima.

The base-level S trim also gets the smaller, 5-inch infotainment display. All other trims enjoy a much larger, 8-inch touchscreen, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Selecting the SV trim also allows an additional package of premium extras. The SV Premium Package includes a sunroof, heated seats, and the ProPilot Assist tech.

Other amenities you’ll love about the 2021 Nissan Altima

MotorTrend weighs in with reviews of the 2021 Nissan Altima and points to great fuel economy. The optional ProPilot Assist feature is also earning big points among consumers. This semi-autonomous tech comes standard with the SL and Platinum and optional for the SV.

Making the Nissan Altima an even better option for consumers is its robust list of standard driver assistance features and focus on safety. Performing well in crash tests, the Altima is a Top Safety Pick+ this year with the IIHS and also earned a five-star safety endorsement from the NHTSA.

The overall verdict to help you make your decision

Choosing a trim for your 2021 Nissan Altima is easy if you want the turbocharged engine since it’s only available on the SV. If having AWD on your sedan is a priority, you’ve narrowed your selection to the top four trims. In the end, critics like Car and Driver say trim compatibility restrictions for some of these features is a setback. But for the average consumer, keeping things simple makes picking the trim a little easier.

Ultimately, the Nissan Altima performs well and offers a spacious interior experience and efficient powertrains. And in your quest for a new midsize sedan this year, picking your trim should be relatively easy. The SV trim is a slam-dunk decision for some, and it may be for you too.
