Snow tires are a great way to keep you and your vehicle safe in the winter on icy roads. But can you use them year-round? Should they be taken off your vehicle during the summer? The short answer is yes, but let’s take a look at why it’s a good idea to change out snow tires in the summer.

Driving on snow tires year-round will shorten their lifespan

There are many factors that can affect the performance and lifespan of snow tires. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), around 11,000 accidents occur annually because of bad tires. So it pays to keep the rubber on your car in good working order to avoid accidents.

What are the different types of snow tires to keep you safe on the road? There are two styles, studless and studded. Both accomplish the same task, keeping your tires in contact with the road. Snow tires are made of very flexible rubber. This allows the tire to conform easily to different cold-weather road conditions.

However, that feature also makes them a bad idea to use in the summer. In the summer, the heat from the roads will cause the tires to wear down faster due to their flexible nature.

Using snow tires in the summer can be hazardous

The same feature that will allow tires to grip the roads in the winter can create hazardous conditions in hot weather. Winter tires don’t perform well in hot temperatures. While their flexibility in the winter is an asset, that flexibility can decrease handling in the summer, and your car won’t perform as well.

Winter tires are made from special compounds that make them pliable and flexible in winter. The tread depth and pattern matter as well. An appropriate tread will help in the winter. However, the tread need not be as deep in the summer or may require a different pattern for better handling.

How long do snow tires last?

Snow tires should last four seasons when used properly. However, if they are used all year long and are not rated all season, this will shorten the lifespan considerably. This can also vary by what climate you are in. For example, a Michigan snow tire will see considerably more use than a Virginia snow tire.

Another factor that can affect how long the tires will last is the brand. Some brands are just engineered to last longer than others. The lifespan can also be affected by how much driving individual drivers actually do.

In addition, how and where the tires are stored can affect how long they last as well. If the tire is left in the elements, the tires may become dangerous. Sun, moisture, and heat can have detrimental effects on rubber. So it’s a good idea to store them somewhere protected from the elements, such as a garage.

Tires on a car are like the shoes you put on your feet. You will want to choose a shoe that is suitable for the terrain you will be in. You wouldn’t wear hiking boots to the beach; you would wear sandals. And you wouldn’t want to wear high heels to go for a run.

The same is true for your car. For your car to perform optimally, it just needs to wear the right pair of shoes. Cinderella said it best, the right pair of shoes can change your life. Or in this case, the right set of wheels can help your car live its best life.

Beam me up Scotty, to the Bruce Enterprise. For a little context, Bruce is my dog and loves the 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid so far. It feels like a spaceship, and that’s a good thing. My first impressions of the Toyota Sienna are out of this world.

You need to consider the 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid

2021 Toyota Sienna | Sienna

If you’re reading this, play the Star Wars theme in your head. That might be the last nerdy space reference I’ll make regarding the 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid AWD XSE model that I get to review this week. It’s the middle trim option.

The XLE has an MSRP of $42,760 and includes tons of convenience and luxury upgrades. For example, it has black roof rails, the rear-seat entertainment system, automatic high beams, an electronic on-demand all-wheel drive, a 1500 Watt power inverter, a wireless phone charger, and six USB ports.

The 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors that generate 245 hp and 263 lb-ft of torque. This van feels like it can blast off. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds

It felt faster than that while driving from Rock Hill, South Carolina, to Asheville, North Carolina. The Sienna was able to merge into traffic and pass others with ease. Also, the sport-tuned suspension is incredibly smooth. It glides over rough patches of back-country roads with ease.

It handles like a sports car with responsive steering and agility. I’ve parked it about three times so far and only had to correct the position once. It feels easy to maneuver in heavy traffic and tight city areas. Plus, the brakes feel smooth and confident.

Command is placed at your fingertips

While driving the 2021 Toyota Sienna, I feel in control. The eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat allowed me to find the perfect driving position. I’m 5’1” and could reach the controls and pedals with ease. The wide windshield also provides a commanding review of the road.

A tall center console spans from the dashboard to the center armrest, providing a shelf to place smaller items. It includes a deep center console bin, plus a storage space is provided beneath it. It was an awesome place to store my bag.

The 9-inch touchscreen display emerges upright from the dashboard about the climate controls. You can adjust settings with the touchscreen or physical knobs. Apple CarPlay was quick and easy to connect, plus it has a wireless phone charger.

You can customize the 10-inch head-up display to provide crucial information such as your speed, navigation instructions, lane centering assistance, and more. It also displays your music and adaptive cruise control settings.

The Sienna is comfortable and convenient

On the roof above the center console, you have buttons to open and close the sliding doors on both sides of the van and to operate the liftgate. All of these commands are included on the keyfob too. The 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid XSE comes with remote start and keyless entry as well.

The interior is incredibly quiet, providing a peaceful ride. The seats are large and supportive for all body types. I almost felt like I was driving in a recliner. Bruce found it easy to nap with his doggy seat belt and cover in the third row. There is a mirror on the roof that folds down, allowing you to see the second and third rows. This allows you to keep an eye on everyone.

I haven’t tested the Wi-Fi, rear-seat entertainment system, and AWD yet. But I have six more days to experiment. I do wish the Sienna had a taller ground clearance and experienced some glare from the dashboard. I’ll list more pros and cons as my review continues.

Back to the Future was the highest-grossing movie of 1985, and it’s still a popular movie today. One of the most memorable features of the film is the time-machine DeLorean, which transports Marty McFly and Doc Brown back (and forth) in time. Now that the popular science fiction movie has been made into a musical, the Back to the Future DeLoran has been brought to the stage. With the help of a DeLorean superfan, the DeLorean in Back to the Future: the Musical is as accurately portrayed as ever.

It’s no surprise that Back to the Future: the Musical incorporates a DeLorean

The movie is now a musical at the Adelphi Theatre in London. The New York Times says that the Back to the Future DeLorean is the “star of the show.” According to the Times, it’s twenty minutes into the musical before the DeLorean appears. Once it did, it was met with the loudest applause of the show.

The 1981 Back to the Future DeLorean is so iconic that it’s been included in the National Historic Vehicle Register. The National Historic Vehicle Register is designed to keep track of the most memorable and important cars. This shows just how beloved and significant the Back to the Future DeLorean is. In fact, it’s only the 29th car ever to be added.

It wasn’t easy to get the Back to the Future DeLorean right in the musical

Clearly making a movie with a car and making a musical with one are two different things altogether. Putting a car on a stage faces different challenges than putting one in a film. Space is a major constraint, and the musical’s production manager, Simon Marlow, said that making it seem as though the car was moving – and fast – was incredibly difficult. To make matters even more complex, Marlow said that “‘The ‘Back to the Future’ fan base is massive, and they’re very pedantic,” according to The New York Times article.

To make sure that the Back to the Future DeLorean was as perfect as it could be, the musical reached out to Steven Wickenden. Wickenden has a replica of the Back to the Future DeLorean that he showcases at events. When he got the call that his expertise – and replica – were desired to make sure the musical version of the DeLorean was top-notch, Wickenden was happy to comply.

Souvenir Studios in London made the theatre-version of the DeLorean. They used Wickenden’s DeLorean as a model, and consulted with him to get the smaller details right. Then the show took that replica and added technology to make it appear to be moving and flying on stage.

The history of the DeLorean is colorful

The DeLorean was founded by John Z. DeLorean in Northern Ireland. Although it may be hard to believe, considering how iconic the DeLorean is, only 9,000 were made. When DeLorean started facing financial difficulties, he did everything he could to save the company. Eventually, he was charged with – and later acquitted of – attempting to save the DeLorean car company by selling cocaine.

It was the DeLorean’s notoriety that in part fueled the writers’ decision to use a DeLorean in the Back to the Future film. Originally, Marty McFly was supposed to climb into a refrigerator and be transported through space-time. While the movie was being made, it was changed to the DeLorean. (CBS News reports that another reason for the change were the movie’s director and producer’s fear that kids may climb into refrigerators.)

Trucks are not always the best option when looking for fuel-efficient vehicles. However, there are modern trucks that are capable of better fuel economy than many users expect, but the GMC Canyon is not one. There are a variety of options for midsize truck users who want smaller, lighter midsize pickup trucks with low-consumption diesel engines. What is the most suitable GMC truck that may not have the best mileage, but is still worth the look?

Alternative GMC trucks with effective gas mileage

The 2021 GMC Sierra offers an impressive full-size pickup truck. It has a powerful engine and a maximum towing capacity of 12,000 pounds. With a compact size, the truck is one of the most effective fuel-efficient in the market from GMC.

The 2021 GMC Acadia features a base engine with impressive gas mileage as well. The front-wheel-drive models have 22 mpg in the city, and 29 mpg for the highway, whereas the all-wheel drive model slightly drops to 22 mpg in the city and 27 mpg highway.

The 2021 GMC Canyon mostly appeals to car owners who prefer an easy-to-drive truck. The model is one of the top five midsize trucks with decent gas mileage. It packs a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. It also features a rear-wheel-drive with 19 mpg around the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

Making the right choice for a perfect truck depends on your needs. For the best GMC truck with good gas mileage, this 2021 GMC Canyon is a top pick.

2021 GMC Canyon cost and reliability

The Canyon has a base price of about $26,400 plus a destination charge of $1,195. The prices differ depending on the customization you want for the truck. For example, having leather in the new 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 raises the price to around $40,000.

The GMC pickup is comfortable and stable on the road. It is more composed than most traditional trucks and has secure handling. The truck guarantees a smooth ride on rough pavements and tarmac roads as well.

The GMC is also a practical off-road truck. The easy-to-use tech features make it one of the top trucks for safety and an excellent driving experience.

Canyon’s towing performance

The GMC truck is impressive, with towing and hauling capacities that rival most of its competitors with proper equipment. With its comfortable handling and comfortable ride, you can tow up to 7700 pounds, an ideal amount for any compact pickup.

The truck hauls up to 1,605 pounds, offering one of the best payload capacities. Other essential features for towing and hauling include trailer brake control with hitch guidance. You feel energetic when cruising down the highway with these sturdy sets of performances.

How spacious is the Canyon?

The Canyon has ample space to seat four people. The seats are spacious and generally comfortable. The second row also allows for decent comfort but is also suited for kids. The interior features have excellent functionality and aesthetic appeal compared to the truck’s competitors.

These ratings fall in line with most competitors in the category. The diesel powertrain of the Canyon offers 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg highway for the decent gas mileage. However, it is definitely worth the look as your next truck due to everything else it offers.
