The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe was supposed to bring an affordable, fuel-efficient SUV to an already saturated market. In many ways, it succeeded, boasting stellar reviews from several top automotive publications. However, a recent glitch in its airbag system may have put a damper on an otherwise smooth rollout.

The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe at a glance

The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe is one of the most eclectic models on the market. Trying to appease more budget-conscious buyers who can’t afford luxury while allowing the deep-pocketed a breadth of better features, Hyundai made its premier SUV the perfect car to reach its broadest audience. It’s hard to find much fault with the design.

According to Car and Driver, the $27,000-plus Santa Fe packs a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with optional front-wheel and all-wheel drive and an optional hybrid powertrain. In doing so, however, it succeeds where many other models fail. Many people can’t afford a hybrid in a market where it’s quickly becoming the norm, and with the Santa Fe appeasing both sides, it automatically has a way to appease all sides of this debacle.

With a striking exterior and a small but spacious interior, this size-conscious midsize SUV delivers where it counts. It boasts 277 hp at 5,800 rpm and 311 lb-ft torque at 1,700 rpm. And with a 19-gallon gas tank and better-than-average fuel economy, this car has excited gearheads and casual buyers alike.

However, despite the Hyundai Santa Fe’s accolades, a recall has briefly cooled an otherwise hot release. Luckily, the automaker appears to have caught the bug early and acted before it got too serious.

The Hyundai Santa Fe’s recent recall

Earlier this year, Hyundai received reports that its lauded airbag system came with a significant flaw. According to a press release published by USA Today, the recall concerns what occurs when a child car seat is placed on the passenger side.

“Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021 Santa Fe vehicles. The Occupant Detection System (ODS) module may not deactivate the air bag upon detection of a child restraint system in the front passenger seat. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, ‘Occupant Crash Protection.'”

Hyundai press release

According to CarComplaints.com, the recall affects only 10 models. Santa Fe owners can call 855-371-9460 to see if their SUV is affected.

Playing it safe

Airbags are meant to save lives, but they can also endanger smaller riders, including children. That’s why airbags shouldn’t deploy near seats where the vehicle’s system detects anything under a certain weight. Though Hyundai conducted thorough testing, this glitch went undetected before the new model debuted.

The recall officially began on May 14. Hyundai urges owners to take their affected Santa Fe SUVs to an authorized dealer to fix the potentially deadly problem. Still, early on in its lifespan, the 2021 Santa Fe’s long-term problems may be unknown. But by catching this issue early, the automaker has potentially saved lives.

Recalls can vary in severity, from annoying hiccups to dangerous problems. Although the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe airbag recall is serious, the problem appears to be isolated to only a handful of vehicles. Still, if you ever doubt your car’s safety, always contact the dealer or manufacturer to ensure you won’t regret your purchase later.

Lebanon has never had an electric vehicle manufacturer until now. This is the EV Electra Quds Rise EV sports car. No matter where it shows up we bet it gets plenty of stares. Every country has different touch points-it’s why there are different ones made in Europe and Asia than here.

The Electra Quds Rise EV will definitely stand out

We’re thinking it looks vaguely like a cross between a Porsche 911, a Bugatti, and an Alfa Romeo 4C. The grille is like a mangled Bugatti Chiron with the overall design like a puffed-up 911 with touches of 4C. Whatever you see in the design it definitely stands out.

The Quds Rise EV comes from Electra which was started by Jihad Mohammed in 2017. It produces other EVs but the Quds Rise is its first sports car. Its fiberglass body is attached to a “superlight aluminum chassis” skateboard platform incorporating steel reinforcements.

The Quds Rise EV grill was inspired by the Dome of the Rock shrine

The grille has the look of a Chiron but is actually patterned after the Dome of the Rock Islamic shrine in Jerusalem. Centered in the grille is a gold Phoenix bird. That grille comes in either black or gold. Overall it looks a bit like it is running on a lift kit or somebody pumped up the air ride a little too much.

The car weighs only 2,425 lbs. That light amount of weight aids the single front electric motor that can launch the Quds Rise from 0-60 mph in just under five seconds. The top speed is just over 100 mph. A 50 kWh lithium-ion battery pack gives the Quds Rise 280 miles of range.

Butterfly doors are featured, though we see no images that show this dramatic function. Featured inside is an almost 16-inch touchscreen infotainment center. Leather abounds in the Quds Rise.

Electra also makes the eCab EV

Other models like the eCab are part of Electra’s product portfolio. This looks like a 1950s Austin A40-if you don’t know what these are Google it. Drag racers would make Gassers out of those in the 1960s because they were lightweight and cheap. The retro-styled sedan is used as a Taxicab.

Electra’s luxury sedan is the Quds Capital ES sedan. It comfortably seats five adults and uses a 320 hp dual-motor system that is all-wheel-drive. It claims to have almost 500 miles of range.

Back to the Quds Rise. It begins production at the end of this year for release to showrooms in 2022. It will sell for $30,000. Electra expects to produce about 10,000 next year.

If you live in a rural area, you have probably seen tractors and other farm maintenance vehicles on the road. You may have even been stuck behind one. In fact, evidence shows slow drivers cause more accidents than fast ones, and tractors are decidedly not fast.

But unlike cars that drive frustratingly slow in the left lane, tractors won’t get ticketed for not driving fast enough. That is as long as they aren’t on a freeway.

Are tractors allowed on roads?

It might be frustrating to get stuck behind tractors, and you might wonder if it is even legal for them to be on the road. But the answer is, yes, it is perfectly legal to drive tractors on roads. According to AGDAILY, laws vary from state to state, but it is still legal to drive a tractor on a road.

What rules do you have to follow if you drive a tractor on the road?

Though rules and regulations differ among states, some are common. Almost every state requires a slow-moving vehicle sign — an orange triangle that becomes a hollow red triangle at night to alert other motorists. Even in states where this sign is not required, such as North Carolina, it is still highly recommended. Additionally, several states do not allow farm equipment on public roads at night. That’s because no matter how many flashing lights you have, judging the speed of an oncoming vehicle at night is difficult.

For motorists, it is important to know that if you are in a no-passing zone, regardless of how slow another vehicle or tractor is going, it is illegal to pass them. It is also dangerous. Additionally, if you see a tractor turning, you should never try to go around it because it can be hard to determine which way it is going. And if it’s towing a trailer, it could swing out wide in the opposite direction.

Remember these safety tips

In addition to following the rules, you should also practice safe driving. Tractors are slower, larger, and can carry or tow additional equipment, so only skilled operators should drive tractors on public roads, the National AG Safety Database (NASD) reports. Before driving, you should make sure your tires are properly inflated, the wheels are bolted tightly, and the vehicle is balanced properly.

Drive on the shoulder if it is wide enough. Listen for approaching cars, and constantly be aware of your surroundings. This includes pedestrians, animals, road obstacles, and potholes. Slow down around sharp curves and when going downhill. You should also not have extra people or pets riding on the tractor with you. They could fall off and sustain serious injuries, and you could accidentally run them over.

Rural areas usually have fewer road hazards than cities. You might see slow-moving farm equipment such as tractors. Or a deer might run into the road and freeze in front of you, which is actually a thing, not just an urban myth. Tractors — along with deer — have a right to be on the road, regardless of speed. So try to be patient and honk only at animals, not tractors.

With SUVs’ ever-growing popularity comes a heightened demand for luxury options. The GV80 is the first luxury SUV from Genesis, and this midsize crossover offers a dizzying array of trims and packages. Here’s everything you need to know to decide which GV80 trim is right for you.

The Genesis GV80’s base model and options

The 2021 Genesis GV80 offers three powertrain options: a 2.5-liter inline-four rear-wheel drive, a 2.5-liter inline-four all-wheel drive, and a 3.5-liter V6 all-wheel drive. For each of its powertrain options, the GV80 is then available in three levels: Base, Advanced, or Prestige.

MotorTrend praises the base trims, particularly with the standard rear-wheel drive option. This trim starts at $48,900 and offers an expansive list of standard features. They include automatic high beams, heated front seats, leatherette upholstery, and a 14.5-inch infotainment display.

Upgrading the base trim to the 2.5-liter all-wheel-drive powertrain will bump the MSRP to $54,650. This level includes every feature found in the rear-wheel-drive option, plus several other goodies. Expect ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof.

Finally, the GV80’s base level for the 3.5-liter V6 comes in at about $59,650. This option comes with the same features as the 2.5-liter all-wheel-drive powertrain. The only difference here is power: The V6 makes 375 hp, while the two other powertrains make 300 hp each.

Upgrading with the Genesis GV80 Advanced package

Each of the Genesis GV80’s powertrain options is also available with the Advanced package. This option for the 2.5-liter rear-wheel drive starts at approximately $52,800. It adds several luxury features, including a panoramic sunroof, rear window sunshades, ventilated front seats, and digital key capabilities.

In the next level, all-wheel-drive powertrain, the Advanced adds larger 20-inch wheels. Leather seating comes standard, as do a range of extra safety features, such as remote smart parking assist and rear collision-avoidance braking. This option adds about $4,350 to the $54,650 base price.

The V6 powertrain offers an Advanced package for an additional $5,200, as well as an Advanced+ package if you opt for the twin-turbo engine. Added features include heated second-row seats and a head-up display.

The most luxurious package: Prestige

Finally, the Genesis GV80 offers three Prestige packages for maximum luxury. The Prestige adds $8,150 to the base price of the 2.5-liter rear-wheel-drive powertrain. Leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, and remote parking assist come standard.

Next, the Prestige package adds $8,750 to the 2.5-liter all-wheel-drive option. This package comes with all the features of the lower-level Prestige package, plus 22-inch wheels and a flat-tire mobility kit.

Finally, we have the priciest trim level available, the V6 all-wheel drive with the Prestige package. It comes out to $71,450. This trim includes all the features of the other trim levels, plus Nappa leather upholstery, power-closing doors, and power-adjustable second-row seats.

Which trim level is best?

Ultimately, the best trim level for you depends on how much luxury you’re willing to pay for. With a starting price under $50,000, the base model offers abundant features that will likely be more than enough for most buyers.

But if you’re looking for a slightly more luxurious experience, MotorTrend recommends the V6 with the Advanced package. This is less expensive than the Prestige but still offers extra features like a head-up display and comfortable seats.

The number of options available for the Genesis GV80 can feel somewhat overwhelming. However, with a base model as excellent as this, it’s hard to go wrong no matter how you choose to upgrade.
