Over 500,000 Ram trucks are being recalled (again) over what can literally cause the wheels to fall off. It covers a wide range of over 10 years. The recall affects 2012 to current Ram 3500 heavy-duty pickups, and Ram 4500 and 5500 chassis-cab trucks.

All of the Ram trucks in the recall have dual rear wheels

All of the affected trucks had dual rear wheels more commonly called “duallys.” They also have flanged lug nuts and are predominately in North America. A flanged nut has a flange or ridge that nests into a recess around the lug nut hole of the wheel.

Ram parent company Stellantis says that the problem is with the torque specifications of the lug nuts. Service and owner’s manuals had incorrect torque specs for the lug nuts holding the wheels to the hubs. Some get over-tightened. This causes damage to the wheel studs and potentially resulting in “wheel separation.” That is more commonly known as the wheels falling off of the hub to you and I.

“Only trucks subject to wheel-removal as part of a service or upfit procedure” are being recalled

“There is no component defect, and torque applied during vehicle assembly is within specification. So the recall condition may only be present in vehicles that have been subject to wheel-removal as part of a service or upfit procedure,” says the release. “Dealers are currently in possession of correct service instructions. Production vehicles are now being delivered with updated owner’s manuals. The campaign is limited to vehicles equipped with dual rear wheels and flanged lug nuts.”

The good news is that Stellantis says there have been no injuries or accidents to its knowledge. It says that the trucks left the factory with the lug nuts properly tightened. So this only affects those trucks that have received service where the wheels are removed.

Dealerships will repair damaged wheel studs and provide new owners manuals with the proper specs

We see a lot of duallys with aftermarket wheels. So we can assume that if they use flanged lug nuts they are part of this recall. But if they use mag wheel-type lug nuts then there may not be a problem. In any case, owners will be notified by the end of July. They will be advised to take their trucks to a dealership to correct the owner’s manual and replace any damaged studs.

If you have questions or concerns you can call 800-853-1403, or you can use the VIN number of your truck to see any recalls affecting it here.

When the best-selling pickup manufacturer sets out to dominate yet another truck category, you know it’s going to be good. And the F-150 is welcoming a new family member with the introduction of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. This all-electric pickup is already showing off its impressive roster of extras, capabilities, and revolutionary tech.

But with all of those options, cab configuration isn’t one of them. The new Ford F-150 Lightning is available only in one cab style. And considering everything else this ultra-cool truck offers, you probably won’t mind.

What cab style does the 1 Ford F-150 Lightning have?

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning certainly won’t replace the traditional F-150. Instead, this introduction launches the automaker’s electric contribution. MotorTrend reports that the Lightning will offer four trims from which to choose: the base model, the popular XLT, the Lariat, and the Platinum.

And though you’ll have a host of other options and available equipment to consider, one decision has been made for you. The Ford F-150 Lightning will be available only in a four-door SuperCrew cab configuration with a 5.5-foot truck bed, The Verge notes.

Other F-150 configurations

Anyone familiar with the Ford F-150 lineup knows it offers varying cab styles and bed lengths from which to choose. This wildly popular truck’s gas-powered versions usually offer a regular cab, the SuperCab, and the SuperCrew. The traditional F-150 also offers 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8.0-foot bed lengths.

You also get a choice among six trims: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. So, while the Ford F-150 Lightning follows suit in some of these offerings, it offers fewer trims and determines cab style and bed length for you.

The Ford F-150 Lightning’s unique design elements

Ford didn’t set out to design something crazy-looking, like a boxy Cybertruck. Instead, the Ford F-150 Lightning offers a unique look that’s slightly Mustang Mach-E and very much a recognizable F-150. And the sleek body style isn’t the only innovative design element.

Ford suggests its new electric pickup will harness 563 horses and jump from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 4.4 seconds. That’s even faster than the last Raptor model MotorTrend clocked at 5.2 seconds. And there’s even more impressiveness inside the Ford F-150 Lightning.

Over-the-air updates are a reality with the F-150 Lightning, including updated information on charging, better mapping, and enhancements to BlueCruise. Expect a 15.5-inch touchscreen with user-friendly access to all the apps and tech, too.

What we know today that we didn’t know before

Most automotive critics have offered estimates and predictions over the past few months about what consumers can expect from the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. What we know now is that this pickup will be affordable, with a $41,669 starting MSRP.

It will comfortably seat five and come ready to work with a max payload of 2,000 pounds. It will also tow up to 10,000 pounds and deliver a driving range of about 300 miles on the extended battery. However, the standard battery will offer 230 miles on a single charge. Also, expect a full spare tire, standard all-wheel drive, and off-road skid plates.

Ford is clearly taking the EV trend seriously with the Ford F-150 Lightning’s launch. You, like most critics, will likely be impressed with the sleek styling, robust capability, and hefty roster of options. And even though you can’t choose a cab configuration, you probably won’t mind considering everything else this pickup offers.

Last week the Quantum Group, an investment firm in Zurich, made Lamborghini owner Volkswagen a $9.2 billion offer for the storied company. VW refused the offer, stating the brand was not for sale. Now Quantum has upped its offer to $11.5 billion. VW must be thinking, “What does Quantum know about Lamborghini that we don’t?”

It sure sounds like Quantum wants to deal, but what about VW?

“Of course our offer is still valid. After all, we have carefully weighed and thought through our decision for Lamborghini and the attached offer and concept,” Rea Stark, who is Quantum’s representative, told Reuters, as Automotive News reports. “And if there is a willingness to negotiate – whether that’s investments, guarantees, or the purchase price – then, of course, we are still prepared.”

Will this $2.4 billion increase budge VW? It is somewhat of a bad time to be offering to buy Lamborghini. That’s because the brand just announced its plans to electrify its line of cars. Later in this decade, the company plans on having its entire line electrified. And in the next few years, all of its products will be at least hybrids.

Even though VW plans on investing over $1.5 billion to make its plans happen, we think it sees the added profit potential in an all-electric lineup. So in some ways, every manufacturer is worth more because electrification cuts manufacturing costs.

The timing to buy Lamborghini may not be so good right now

But until then Lamborghini can milk its final gas-powered V12 Aventador replacement. For enthusiasts that should add some interest and maybe a buying frenzy to have the last of the gas-powered cars. So it is all looking up for Lambo’s future right now.

Quantum says that the added amount of its latest offer is to cover VW’s investments and guaranteed jobs. The investment firm said as part of its original offer it would offer job assurances to all current employees. So no one would lose their job from the potential sale.

An additional innovation center would add 850 more jobs

It also said it would invest in a separate innovation center that would employ an additional 850 people. This would be where Lambo would develop EV solutions and technology. This facility would be located in Germany.

Automobili Lamborghini is still housed in Sant’Agata, Italy. The offer asks for this facility, all of Lambo’s motorsports operations, and a five-year supplier deal with Audi. Audi is the division within the VW empire that oversees not only Lamborghini but also Bentley.

Quantum would acquire Lamborghini in conjunction with Centricus Asset Management in the UK. In its original offer, the two partnering companies said they wanted to make Lambo a “technology and lifestyle investment platform.” Lamborghini was founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini. VW purchased it in 1998.

The 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser finds itself in good company in U.S. News’ “The 14 Best Boxy Cars for 2021” roundup. This true body-on-frame SUV, a rarity in today’s crossover-heavy market, doesn’t waste an inch when giving occupants space. Hauling everything and everyone from luggage and families to music equipment and bands, the Toyota Land Cruiser offers something for everyone.

The case for space in the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser

The Toyota Land Cruiser has been on the market for decades. But it may not have had a better run than its current incarnation, U.S. News notes. Seating eight passengers across three rows, this SUV doesn’t force riders to elbow each other for space. Toyota designed the 2021 model to give the drivers and passengers every bit of space they desire and then some.

The SUV’s cargo area holds only 16 cubic feet of space behind the third row. But for solo drivers more concerned with belongings than passengers, cargo capacity expands five times to 82.6 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded down.

Add to that a roster of excellent features under the hood and at the driver’s fingertips, and the Land Cruiser stands out among Toyota SUVs and rivals as well. However, that doesn’t mean this model is for everyone.

Overview of the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser

Car and Driver has some excellent things to say about the $87,030-plus 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser. But it’s far from a perfect driving experience. C/D’s reviewers lauds the SUV for its power, off-road capability that many luxury vehicles ignore, and breadth of features. Such a powerful vehicle can be intimidating at such a steep price, but Toyota has given competitors a run for their money.

The Land Cruiser has enough to keep drivers and the passengers equally happy. With a 9.0-inch touchscreen and wireless charging, drivers never have to sacrifice safety for phone calls, music, or temperature adjustment. Furthermore, the heated seats, leather upholstery, and camera system provide as much comfort as they do safety for all occupants.

But with a 381-hp V8 engine, the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser earns low marks for fuel economy. With hybrid vehicles boasting similar price tags to go with similar features, this could be a turnoff to potential buyers. The Land Cruiser gets only 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway. This is a far cry from the gas mileage of the Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, and other luxury competitors.

However, despite these setbacks, shoppers willing to spend the extra money on fuel can rest easy knowing the Land Cruiser can conquer the harshest conditions while towing over 8,000 pounds. Indeed, there’s plenty to love about this SUV, but it won’t tickle everyone’s fancy. In a world where automakers strive to lower tailpipe emissions, the Land Cruiser’s dated engine could turn consumers away.

Still, for those who want a powerful luxury vehicle that can drive as well off-road as on it, the Toyota Land Cruiser might be the perfect vehicle.

Who should get this full-size SUV?

The SUV market may be the hardest to guide. With small cars powered like big cars and big cars feeling like small cars, the classic Toyota Land Cruiser is arguably a relic of the past. Those who embrace the changes may want to look elsewhere. However, consumers looking for a rugged, classic car with no concern for the cost of running it have plenty of reason to look at the Land Cruiser if the price tag isn’t too hefty.

Still, despite its setbacks, the Land Cruiser offers space, power, and reliability, making it one of the best boxy SUVs on the market. With its future in limbo, fans of the famous model should have a blast with its latest incarnation.
