Not long ago Chevrolet released a configurator to accompany the new Camaro. It’s an easy way to see all the specs and features for the many available trim levels, and there are a lot. Between many LT and a couple of SS options, as well as the 1LS and ZL1 closing off opposite ends of the spectrum, there’s a price point for everyone, no matter what kind of Camaro they’re after.

The engines range from turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinders to the supercharged 6.2-liter V8. The turbo starts at $26,195, which is reasonable, but the supercharged V8, deservedly so, takes a dramatic leap to $64,1945, or $65,790 with an automatic transmission. Fortunately, there is a middle ground, and it takes the shape of the LT1. Here’s why it’s the best choice.

The cost per horsepower is impossible to beat

First of all, its $35,195 price is well within range for someone looking at new muscle cars. The Ford Mustang GT starts at $36,285 while the Dodge Challenger arrives at $35,760. This means the Camaro LT1 with a manual transmission is the cheapest muscle car among its competitors. Hopefully, that will help its dismal sales.

Even though the Camaro LT1 has the lowest price, it’s far from being the least powerful. The Mustang sits comfortably at 460 horsepower from the smallest engine of the three, while the Challenger trails it at 370 with a 5.7-liter Hemi. The Camaro nips at the Mustang’s heels with 455 horsepower, from its massive 6.2-liter V8. For its price, the Camaro barely isn’t the most powerful among its competition.

Standard LT1 equipment already has a leg up

Consumers can get a Camaro LT1 without any extra packages and still come out on top. The LT1 comes standard with Brembo performance brakes in the front, an engine oil cooler, limited-slip differential, performance suspension, and a 3.73 ratio for the rear axle. It’s also one of the last cars to have a manual transmission. If all of that isn’t satisfactory there are plenty of options for customers to choose from.

LT1 lacks newer safety features

If safety is a concern, the LT1 yet again comes with a plethora of safety features as standard, including Chevy’s own Teen Driver feature. OnStar is also included, and various types of traction control. If the LT1 has a weak point, it’s in the lack of state-of-the-art safety features that are becoming more common on other, less expensive cars. Forward collision alert, lane change alert, and rear cross-traffic alert aren’t available to the LT1. However, cars are now much safer than they used to be, so just paying a little more attention to the road and surroundings make up for not having those features.

LT1 interior starts out basic but has plenty to offer

In terms of interior, the LT1 is fairly basic, but it has plenty of options to choose from. From the factory, it has all the usual refinements, including Bluetooth, a touchscreen, theft prevention, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, various leather-wrapped bits, and cupholders. Chevrolet offers many interior packages for the LT1 at modest pricing, giving the customer plenty of room to customize the car however they like.

Plain exterior with lots of options

Exterior-wise the Camaro LT1 doesn’t have a lot as standard. It’s a simple-looking car, but once again there are a lot of packages available for it. The car comes with run-flat tires, and we recommend replacing those immediately. Run-flats offer poor grip and are very expensive, and most insurance companies offer roadside assistance, so getting a flat tire isn’t as big of a problem as it used to be.

If shopping for a Chevrolet Camaro, and want the best bang-for-the-buck, the LT1 is the best option. It’s only $10,000 more than the 1LS but offers a massive difference in performance. It gets a better engine, better brakes, and better suspension, and it’s almost at Mustang power territory for less money.

The electric pickup truck revolution is coming, and we all better prepare for it. Although the Ford Lightning has made a big boom, and the Tesla Cybertruck is, well, technically a thing, the 2022 Rivian R1T has been the golden boy anyone who has been paying attention is waiting to see. Rivian has systematically been working toward making not only the best electric pickup truck on the market but the best pickup truck, period – and they may have done it.

Rivian R1T | Rivian

The 2022 Rivian R1T might be the best pickup truck on the market

Aside from the Rivian R1T being the first major production electric truck to hit the U.S. market, it very well may be the best truck, period. The Folks at MotorTrend have been lucky enough to actually drive the very truck that may catalyze the electric truck movement.

Like everything else in these wacky modern times, the idea of an electric truck has been subject to the politics of the day. Some automakers are worried that although the pickup truck is beyond popular (it’s more of a belief system), most truck drivers are too politically conservative to go for it. Aside from that sentence (and the politics it references) being absurd, the Rivian R1T might be so good that it bludgeons through any political barriers.

Could it be? After years of some of the most politically dissonant times in recent history, that the Rivian R1T could mend our country. It would be the most American thing ever to have our nation’s biggest issue solved by a pickup truck.

What is the Rivian R1T and why is it the best pickup truck?

Rivian has given this pickup truck so many features it’s hard even to know where to begin. From built-in electric kitchens to Star Wars-themed maneuvering abilities, the 2022 Rivian R1T truly should be the best pickup truck ever made.

The Rivian is closer in size to a Honda Ridgeline or Ford Maverick than an F-150 or GMC Sierra. However, it has all the power of the big trucks and then some. The two motors at each axle deliver 415 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels and 420 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque, and Rivian claims a 0-60 time of 3.0 seconds.

Can electric trucks go off-road?

Rivian R1T | Rivian

The Rivian R1T is no tarmac-only city truck. Although the interior is finished more like a Caddilac than a Ford, the Rivian R1T was made to crush the trails and boulders. Part of what makes the Rivian so dominant off-road is that it has a motor at each wheel that directly controls the amount of power for each wheel to gain maxim hook up, otherwise known as torque vectoring.

Also, because of these four motors, Rivian has made multiple driving modes that utilize this feature for several different applications. For on-road driving, MotorTrend testers verify that the “All-Purpose” mode is super snappy and tons of fun, even from stoplight to stoplight.

The torque-vectoring isn’t just an off-road feature. MotorTrend mentions using it to throw the best pickup truck on the market through some tarmac corners, too.

“We activated Sport mode, pushed hard enough into a sharp bend to provoke a little understeer, and then nailed the throttle. We felt the R1T’s torque-vectoring superpowers at work: The outside-rear motor powered up and brought the R1T’s nose around, and we blasted out of the turn like the Millennium Falcon—and this with four occupants in the cab, several hundred pounds of gear in the bed, and all-terrain tires.”

The Rivian R1T is going to change the game

There is still plenty of work to be done in the push for a more electrified future. Infrastructure is still the largest hurdle in this campaign, but customer buy-in is also a major piece of the puzzle. If Rivian production can deliver on all the lofty promises of the testers and PR stunts, the Rivian should make a serious dent on that part.

With more features that one journalist can explain, this writer humbly suggests that drivers interested in the future of electric trucks seriously look at what Rivian is doing. This truly may be the best pickup truck ever made.

Can I drive when my car needs an oil change? Unless you’re extremely diligent about car maintenance, it’s likely that at one time or another you’ve realized that you’re overdue for an oil change. How long is too long to go in between oil changes? Recommendations have changed over the years, and you may be surprised to learn just how far you can go once your car is due for an oil change

How often should I change my oil?

The answer to this question varies depending on the type of vehicle you drive. The best way to determine exactly just how frequently you should be changing the oil in your vehicle is to look in your owner’s manual.

In the past oil changes were supposed to be done at 3,000 mile intervals. Now that number may vary, even going as high as every 10,000 miles. Some vehicles have systems that try to gauge when you’re due, taking into account the number of miles you’ve driven, along with how hard you drive your car.

How often you change your oil may also depend on a time frame. Even drivers who don’t put tons of miles on their cars need to change their oil at regular intervals. This keeps the oil from becoming old, less effective, and ultimately killing your engine

Can I drive if my car says to change the oil?

Some vehicles will relay a message telling you when it’s time to change your oil. This message is sent after your engine has experienced enough wear and tear since your last oil change, so it’s important to make sure that the oil tracking system is reset every time you get an oil change. Your engine computer system keeps track of things like temperature and revolutions, and this is how it determines how often you need to get your oil changed.

Once the change engine oil light comes on, it’s best to get your car serviced within the next two weeks or 500 miles. If you can do it sooner than that, it’s better. You definitely don’t want to wait too long before getting your oil changed.

What happens if I don’t change my oil in time?

You’ve undoubtedly heard stories about engines dying without oil. Not changing your oil when it’s due can also cause problems. Waiting too long to change oil causes your engine to burn the oil that’s in there. If you haven’t changed your oil in a long time, your engine isn’t burning clean oil, it’s burning oil that is full of gunk. This is terrible for your engine, and can cause problems or even kill your engine.

To sum up, the most important way to determine when your vehicle is due for an oil change is to check your owner’s manual. Don’t rely on some random oil change business to tell you it’s every 3,000 miles if it’s not. (However, if you have a trusted mechanic and a vehicle with problems, it may be best to listen to them.) And once your change oil light comes on, do so as soon as possible. Definitely don’t wait more than two weeks or 500 miles, or you may have a very expensive problem on your hands.
