The EV is slowly becoming the dominant car of modern times, but some car manufacturers are still making electric vehicles like Tesla was 10 years ago. Back then, Elon Musk’s automaker was building high-performance sports cars to show off how powerful EVs could be. And Rimac is doing that today. Here’s a look at the Rimac Nevera, which looks to be the world’s fastest production car, at least when it comes to acceleration.

Rimac’s powerful claims about the Nevera

Car salesmen are notorious for deceiving shoppers to get a sale, but that’s probably not the case with the Nevera. Rimac claims the Nevera can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in an unbelievable 1.85 seconds, Forbes reports. This would make the Nevera faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid, touted to rocket from 0 to 60 mph in under 2 seconds.

On top of that, Rimac claims the Nevera can do a standing quarter-mile in 8.6 seconds — 0.8 seconds faster than the Bugatti Chiron. So because the Nevera is a production car with a limited run of 150 examples, it would be the fastest production car in the world if its acceleration times were verified.

It’s true, and this video proves it

It was only a matter of time until the Nevera went to the track. And, as it turns out, Rimac’s claims are pretty accurate. The YouTube channel DragTimes got its hands on a Nevera. After rigorous testing, the numbers were in, and they were remarkably close to Rimac’s claims. DragTime’s best 0-60 time for the Nevera was 1.9 seconds, close enough to Rimac’s 1.85-second claim.

Surprisingly, DragTime’s quarter-mile test went even better for the Nevera. DragTime’s best time for the quarter-mile was 8.58 seconds — slightly faster than what Rimac alleged. When the car clocked that time, the crowd and the crew erupted into cheers, as it was proof the Nevera was indeed the fastest production car in the world.

To be clear, the Nevera is the fastest production car in terms of acceleration. In terms of top speed, the Nevera is still a step behind the current recordholder, the Koenigsegg Agera RS. The Nevera boasts a top speed of about 258 mph, but the Agera RS tops out at 277 mph. Plus, there are a handful of controversial cars that may be faster than the Agera RS. This shows that the Nevera has a long road ahead of it in terms of top speed.

An overview of the Rimac Nevera

Rimac is a Croatian company formed to build electric sports cars. That’s exactly why the Nevera accelerates as fast as it can. It has four electric motors, one for each wheel. Combined, they harness about 1,914 hp and 1,740 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, like many hypercars, the Nevera was designed with speed in mind. As such, it uses carbon fiber, seats two, and boasts a super-aerodynamic design.

But despite those weight cuts, the Nevera still weighs a ton — or, more specifically, two tons. Due to its 120-kWh battery, the Nevera weighs just over 4,000 pounds. That’s about as heavy as a pickup truck. Still, the Nevera’s battery allows it to get over 340 miles of range. In theory, it can also recharge from 0% to 80% in 22 minutes.

And all of this can be yours for $2.4 million.

The idea of carpool karaoke, carpool vocal coaching, and even just carpooling are some of the ways people pass the time in the car. One aspiring singer named Rynia Kando decided to get in the mix by doing some Olivia Rodrigo vocal coaching in Cheryl Porter’s famous vehicle. But don’t try this at home, kids. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) doesn’t want people driving around in cars doing vocal coaching.

What’s not to love about Olivia Rodrigo songs and carpool vocal coaching?

If you haven’t heard of Olivia Rodrigo before, you might just not know it yet. This year, Rodrigo has been all over the place with her hit single “drivers license”(she spells it this way). The song drivers license is, you guessed it, about getting your driver’s license as a bright and shiny 16-year-old. However, this one is a breakup song that everyone seems to relate to. The drivers license lyrics are good; there’s no denying that.

It makes sense Rodrigo would be into carpool vocal coaching given the theme of the song. Cheryl Porter picks Kando up, and off the vocally-inspired pair goes. Porter seems to have a two or three-row SUV filled with coats, baby toys, and other personal items. Based on the release date of February, it looks pretty snowy outside of the car. But Porter is a professional. Besides looking lost at one point, she continues to drive around while Kando practices the Olivia Rodrigo song.

Can anyone out there multi-task like Porter? Not only is she driving, navigating, and coaching, but she has many cameras in her face at the same time. The NHTSA would like a word now.

James Corden sort of made car activities popular with his own Carpool Karaoke YouTube series. However, he’s got nothing on Porter. While the setup on Corden’s show is made-for-TV and glamorous (as much as carpool karaoke can be), something about just being in Porter’s personal SUV is better.

Rodrigo sings a lot about cars and car-related activities in her song because getting your license is one of those coming-of-age things that’s a big deal. Perhaps that’s why her album has shot to the top of the pop charts and stayed there.

‘Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street

While Olivia Rodrigo is singing through the speakers and Kando is in the passenger seat, Porter is paying close attention to the road. It looks like she is actually driving, but there’s always a chance her car is being towed for safety purposes. No distracted driving here. But the NHTSA has a lot to say about distracted driving. In 2019 alone, distracted driving led to the deaths of 3,142 lives. How exactly is that defined?

“Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system.”

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

So don’t hop on the road and start trying to coach your friends and family while driving. Paying attention to the road and your surroundings is more important than hitting high notes. That doesn’t mean you can’t sing your heart out, but try not to start a full-fledged YouTube channel from the driver’s seat right away. Driving alone down someone’s street is probably better until you get the hang of it.

With the wildfires still spreading across California and new ones arising in areas of Colorado, the stress and evacuations are just one concern for many people. Homes and vehicles, businesses, and belongings are being engulfed in the tragic fires, and even at a distance, you are at risk. In the wind, ash and soot can travel for many miles, causing respiratory problems irritating asthma and allergies, and it can also damage your vehicle. While it is just one minor concern among the many, keeping your vehicle safe is one thing we can somewhat control, and basic maintenance can ensure that your car is ready to go when you need it, especially in an emergency.

Soot and ash can travel in the wind for miles, meaning that even if you aren’t within the dangerous evacuation zones of the fire, you aren’t out of the woods just yet. These compounds, when mixed with water from sprinklers or rain, become acidic and can etch into your vehicle’s clear coat causing permanent and irreversible damage. It isn’t any different than how bonfire ash and residue from 4th of July fireworks can cause damage to your paint. While this isn’t always avoidable, it’s best to keep your vehicle in a garage or covered area or invest in a tarp or vehicle cover. If you notice soot or ash on your vehicle, the best course of action is to wash it off completely and immediately to minimize damage.

If you are currently living even at several mile distances from the wildfires and are concerned about ash and soot, chances are you’ve realized that these airborne particulates can enter your vehicle, compromise your cabin air quality. Because of the additional pollution in the air around your car, it is important to spend the time to check your cabin air filter and air intake for your engine to ensure that it isn’t clogged with this soot and ash. If you’re concerned about allergies or asthma, there also isn’t a reason not to put an air purifier in your car.

Keep your vehicle in good condition and ready to go

In case of emergency, keeping your paint in good condition really isn’t all that important, but ensuring you keep your vehicle in overall good running condition is critical. If you’ve never experienced a wildfire, it is difficult to explain just how quickly it spreads, endangering anything and everything around it. Making sure your vehicle has enough gas, a charged battery and can get you out of your area in case of an emergency evacuation is critical, less important to your vehicle, and more importantly, for your personal safety and the safety of your family and pets.

If you or a loved one is in the Colorado area currently at risk for the spreading wildfire, please use the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for information and updates, and stay vigilant regarding news updates.

Imagine you’re out running errands and, while perusing the aisles at your local grocery store, your car’s battery dies. Much to your dismay, you’ve left your jumper cables at home. The parking lot is unusually quiet, too. What do you do? Well, if you’ve got a jump starter on hand, you can use it to bring your car’s battery back to life. And if you don’t have a jump starter? It might be time you consider buying one. The good news is that when it comes to shopping for the best jump starters, MotorBiscuit has got you covered.

Are jump starters worth it?

Yes, jump starters are worth it. But don’t just take our word for it. First, let’s talk about how jump starters work. If your car’s battery has died, you can count on a jump starter to give it a jolt of power so that you can turn it on again, Lifewire reports.

To use a jump starter to start your car, connect the positive jumper cable to the positive terminal on the battery. Next, connect the negative cable to the jump starter’s engine block. Once the cables are connected, place the jump starter in a secure location. Then, it’s time to try and start your car.

As you can see, jump starters are pretty easy to use. They aren’t costly, either. In fact, Lifewire reports that you can find many jump starters for less than $100. However, if you find yourself hunting for the best jump starter for your car, be prepared to pay about $150 or more, Lifewire reports.

Consumer Reports offers an endless amount of information. That’s especially true when it comes to the best jump starters. In fact, earlier this year, the organization purchased a selection of jump starters and tested both their reserve capacity and how well they jump-start a warm and cold vehicle.

During its tests, Consumer Reports determined that the Antigravity Batteries XP-10 is the best jump starter of 2021. In fact, according to Consumer Reports, “Excellent jump starting at warmer temperatures and the best reserve capacity by far put the Antigravities XP-10 at the top of the Ratings.” As for how much this jump starter will cost you? You can expect to pay approximately $179.00 for this portable jump starter.

These portable jump starters are also among your best options

Now, as it turns out, Consumer Reports isn’t the only organization testing jump starters. Roadshow by CNET has done its due diligence, too. In fact, the Roadshow team also determined that the Antigravity XP-10 is among the best jump starters. The organization revealed a few more of its top picks, too.

Take, for example, the Black & Decker Portable Power Station Jump Starter PPRH5B. Roadshow calls it the “Swiss Army knife of portable car batteries and chargers.” It features multiple recharge options. It also comes equipped with a work light, a 120-psi air compressor, and a 500-watt AC inverter with two plugs geared toward running small appliances. Overall, it boasts 17 amp hours of stored power, Roadshow added.

Is it time you bought a jump starter for your car?

It just might be. After all, jump starters are a great way to ensure you don’t wind up stranded. Fortunately, the best jump starters are designed to prevent precisely that.
