Artificial intelligence is advancing in ways we previously couldn’t even imagine. Now it’s everywhere, including in our automobiles. How does artificial intelligence in cars work? What are the different ways we can use it, and what does the future of AI hold?

Artificial intelligence is used in autonomous vehicles

You’re probably familiar with autonomous and semi-autonomous driving systems like Tesla’s Autopilot feature and Full Self-Driving (FSD). Even if you don’t know a lot about it, you’ve certainly heard of it before. One of the driving forces behind autonomous and semi-autonomous driving systems like Autopilot and FSD is artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence uses machine learning and neural networks to both study data and algorithms to make semi-autonomous vehicles better, as well as to ‘teach’ the vehicle. AI teaches vehicle through neural networks. For example, every Tesla’s camera-based sensors send information they capture to one larger network. Then, the Tesla network as a whole learns from this information, and in turn the semi-autonomous driving systems Autopilot and Full Self-Driving become more accurate.

Waymo uses artificial intelligence in autonomous taxis

Waymo’s autonomous driving system began as a Google project. Waymo doesn’t make its own cars. Instead, it collaborates with car companies to put its driving system into vehicles.

Currently variations of Waymo semi-autonomous and autonomous driving systems are in Toyota Priuses, Lexus SUVs, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans, and Jaguar I-PACEs. In Phoenix, Arizona, Waymo has also instituted driverless taxis in the form of the Chrysler Pacifica. These fully automated minivans can be accessed via Google Maps.

Waymo uses a 360-degree perception technology which work with lidar, radar, and camera sensors to monitor all directions around the vehicle. Waymo says that by developing autonomous driving systems, they’ll be helping to save lives. Driverless cars don’t make the same mistakes that humans do. However, the technology and capabilities to put mass amounts of driverless cars on the roads is still years away.

Tesla is perhaps the most famous company to use artificial intelligence in cars

Tesla’s artificial intelligence monitoring system is entirely camera-based. Cameras monitor surroundings and also allow the vehicle to respond appropriately. Teslas use Tesla Vision, which operates on a neural network.

Tesla’s website states that, “Our per-camera networks analyze raw images to perform semantic segmentation, object detection and monocular depth estimation. Our birds-eye-view networks take video from all cameras to output the road layout, static infrastructure and 3D objects directly in the top-down view.”

While Tesla is working to improve their Autopilot and Full Self-Driving features, they are being continuously tweaked. However, they are currently far from perfect, and misuse of these features is responsible for a multitude of accidents.

As technology advances, it’s especially likely that we’ll see more and more artificial intelligence in cars. Car manufacturers and technology companies are constantly looking for ways to innovate. Nonetheless, what that means for society remains to be seen. Some of the advancements are exciting, while others make people cautious. It’s important for car manufacturers to be responsible when rolling out new technology. It’s also vital for early adopters and semi-autonomous vehicle drivers to exercise caution and safety when operating these vehicles. We’re still far from living in a world with fully autonomous vehicles everywhere, and if we rush it, people will be hurt.

You may have seen the Omaze ads on various websites saying that they’re giving away a free car to a lucky winner. But did you ever think that anyone actually won those sweepstakes giveaways? Apparently, they do. In fact, a lucky winner named Zander L. recently won an Omaze sweepstakes contest and took delivery of the first 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition.

Over 41,000 Civic Type R fans entered the contest

Honda uncovered the Civic Type R LE for Zander | Honda

Winning the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition is one thing, but beating out over 41,000 other entries is another. Those entries helped raise over $500,000 in support of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The money raised will go towards grants from CAF America, which will benefit programs that support Historically Black Colleges and Universities. American Honda Motor Co. and Omaze teamed up to make the contest happen.

“We’re grateful to everyone who helped us raise over a half-million dollars in grants to support the Thurgood Marshall College Fund through the Honda Civic Type R Omaze sweepstakes,” Yvette Hunsicker, vice president of the Corporate Social Responsibility and Inclusion & Diversity Divisions, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. said in a press release.

“This is truly a win-win result, with a loyal Honda fan winning our pinnacle Civic Type R and HBCUs receiving much-needed assistance at a time when the students and schools need extra support due to the community impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Civic Type R wasn’t the only prize that Zander won

In addition to winning one of the most exclusive and most expensive Honda Civics to ever roam the streets, Zander also won a track experience on Honda’s Proving Ground with none other than Honda Indy Car driver Colton Herta for a “once-in-a-lifetime” track-driving experience.

As a diehard Honda fan and past Civic owner, winning the very first Civic Type R Limited Edition in the U.S. is beyond my wildest dreams, and having Colton Herta personally guide me around the track was one of the greatest experiences of my life,” said Zander. “I’m so grateful that I took a chance and entered – this is truly once-in-a-lifetime.”

The Honda Civic Type R LE is quite the street-worthy track monster

The 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition that Zander won is the first of only 600 exclusive copies that were brought to the U.S. The Civic Type R Limited Edition adds to the Civic Type R’s race-ready formula with a set of lightweight BBS wheels wrapped in Michelin Cup 2 tires. The Limited Edition also has more sound deadening removed to save weight and it also removes the cargo cover, rear heated ducts, and rear window wiper reports Car Scoops.

Considering the MSRP on the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition is set at around $44,000, Zander’s win is extremely fortunate. But we can also take into consideration that most of the dealerships that have one of these select Civic Type Rs in stock are marking them up by $10,000 to $20,000. In that case, Zander’s entry was even more fortunate. And we thought that no one really won those Omaze sweepstakes.

When Taylor Swift said she “comes back stronger than a ’90s trend,” she foreshadowed the new 2022 Porsche Taycan colors. The Porsche Taycan was already getting many upgrades, but Porsche is adding cool new paint options to the lineup. If you are looking for the 2022 Taycan price, that is starting at $81,250.

What’s new with the 2022 Porsche Taycan

The 2022 Porsche Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo are gearing up for release later this year. Porsche has introduced significant upgrades to the 2022 Taycan, including adding Android Auto in the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system. In addition to that, the Taycan will offer Remote Park Assist. The parking process can be controlled remotely via phone and does not require a driver at the wheel. This can park in both parallel and perpendicular spaces.

Porsche is also offering the Turbo Charging Planner. The high-voltage battery can reach a higher temperature than before, which means faster charging. Plus, the excess heat from other components is used for battery temperature regulation.

The Taycan has a few different trim levels. The base model 2022 Taycan gets 402 hp with the smaller battery and 469 hp with the larger battery. The base trim is only offered in rear-wheel drive. The Taycan 4S gets 522 hp with the smaller battery and 562 hp with the larger battery. The Turbo trim level gets the larger battery standard and offers 670 hp. As far as the Turbo S goes, that delivers 750 hp. Plus, the new Cross Turismo option starts at $92,250 and gets 562 hp.

The 2022 Taycan and the Paint to Sample Plus program

Back in the ’90s, Porsche had some cult favorite colors. These colors have proved to be especially popular among fanatics, such as the 964-generation Porsche 911. With that said, the Porsche Paint to Sample program is expanding! The program will now offer Paint to Sample Plus plus options with even more custom color options. Currently, the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur program offers 65 colors, plus 17 standard colors.

The 2022 Taycan can now be painted in some seriously ’90s colors like Rubystar or Acid Green. The Paint to Sample program has become increasingly popular in the past few years, making each car personalized to the owner. Some of the other options include Moonlight Blue Metallic, Riviera Blue, and Viola Metallic. These can also be made in a variety of finishes, like metallic or matte.

Sales are strong for the EV so far this year

According to the press release, the Taycan sales have been strong this year. In the first half of 2021, Porsche delivered 5,367 vehicles. In 2020, Porsche sold only 4,414 units the entire year. “Sales of the latest member of the Porsche model range are therefore on a par with those of the sports car icon, the 911.” That’s good news for fans of the newest Porsche model.

As far as the range goes, the 2022 Taycan will stay on par with the 2021 specs of 300 miles. That’s a pretty solid range already. It sounds like with the new battery power and new software updates, Porsche is making an already solid vehicle even more solid. The battery-electric vehicle has gained a lot of fans in its short time on the market and is still gaining momentum.

We have good news for GMC Yukon fans! You can now get the 2022 GMC Yukon AT4 with more power. It’s gaining the 6.2-liter V8 engine that used to only be available with the Yukon Denali trim.

The 2022 GMC Yukon AT4 gains V8 power

2021 GMC Yukon AT4 | GMC

The 2022 GMC Yukon AT4 is now available with more power for off-roading. You can have it equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 engine that provides 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. This is quite the upgrade over the standard 5.3-liter V8 engine with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.

It will cost about $2,195 to upgrade from the 5.3-liter engine to the 6.2-liter option. On an interesting note, you can’t equip the 3.0-liter V6 Duramax turbodiesel engine with 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque with the AT4 trim. The rig’s front fascia would obstruct the engine’s intercooler. However, it’s still thirsty.

The diesel engine gets an EPA estimated 21 mpg in the city and up to 27 mpg on the highway. The gasoline engines get an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 20 mpg on the highway.

What comes with the Yukon AT4?

Aside from extra power, the 2022 GMC Yukon AT4 is expected to be a carryover model. It was recently revised in 2021 to become more prominent, offer enhanced luxury, and provide more off-roading capability.

The Yukon AT4 rides on a two-inch lift and a raised heavy-duty suspension with an independent rear suspension. This provides a smooth ride, sportier handling, and a quieter cabin. You also get magnetic ride control and can opt for an optional air ride suspension.

You’ll find an electronic locking differential in the rear along with skid plates, red tow hooks, and larger all-terrain tires. Take advantage of the Automatic mode with the four-wheel-drive system. As soon as the vehicle detects slippage or the need for more traction, the front wheels are automatically engaged.

The Yukon primarily functions as a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, but you can leave it in Automatic mode all the time. It also includes a full dual-range 4×4, and that’s available at the push of a button.

What is the Yukon AT4’s interior like?

The 2022 GMC Yukon AT4 offers plenty of luxury refinement. It just doesn’t take things to the Denali level. You still get leather seats, a heated steering wheel, and the front seats are heated and ventilated.

Modern tech features include a full-color head-up display, a 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with built-in navigation, and a dual rear-seat entertainment system with 12.6-inch screens for the kids. Plus, you get a dual-pane sunroof and power retracting running boards.

The GMC Yukon AT4 includes the GMC ProGrande trailing system too. It comes with trailer-side blind-spot monitoring, hitch guidance, a trailer brake controller, in-trailer cameras, and a camera is mounted on the rear of the trailer for obstructed vision. It can tow up to 8,400 lbs.

The 2021 Yukon AT4 starts about $65,100. Pricing for the 2022 model lineup hasn’t been released, but it’s not expected to increase. It could go up by a few hundred bucks. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
