Additionally, the vehicle must have an advanced or superior in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian tests. Car sales can be a daunting task even in the best of times. However, thanks to the pandemic and shut-downs worldwide, that task has become even trickier to negotiate. New car lots are alarmingly empty across the U.S., and there is no guarantee an end will be in sight any time soon. The shortage has created a new problem because new car buyers find it even more difficult to negotiate lower prices.

What is MSRP and how it works

MSRP stands for the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. This is the price that the vehicle manufacturer has suggested that the dealer charges for that particular vehicle. MSRP and sticker price are often used interchangeably because the MSRP is listed on the sticker attached to the vehicle.

Just because the sticker says a certain price doesn’t mean that is what a customer will pay. In the car-buying world, negotiations between the dealer and the customer will determine the final price the vehicle is sold for. The MSRP serves as the starting point for negotiations.

Recent events have changed the way car sales haggling happen

The pandemic of 2020 has continued to affect all areas of the economy. Supply chain disruption has affected virtually every market. Currently, there is a semiconductor shortage that affects not only car production but also other markets. For example, the highly coveted PS5 is impossible to find, thanks to the chip shortage. When it is made available, units are scooped up in seconds thanks to bots and resold at three times the purchase price in some cases.

This presents an interesting situation for the car-buying industry. Traditionally, a customer could walk away from negotiations with a good deal, sometimes paying thousands less than the MSRP. Because dealers don’t have as many cars to sell, they find themselves in a unique situation where demand is outpacing supply. According to Marketplace, dealers are now only discounting an average of $515 below MSRP, which is the lowest since 2016.

If you don’t buy it, someone else will

Dealerships have historically used lots of tactics to negotiate more money out of customers’ pockets. Now, they have added one more tool to their game. If you don’t buy it, someone else will. This tactic is called the impending event, and the psychology of this is that people will be more interested in a vehicle that someone else wants or already has.

This tactic is being used more than ever now due to the low inventories in car lots everywhere. This makes negotiating more difficult because there is more demand for vehicles right now than there is supply. This gives dealerships the upper hand when negotiating because they can sometimes have two or three customers interested in the same vehicle. Suddenly, negotiations can turn into a bidding war, which is not ideal when trying to haggle on price.

Used car demand has increased in recent months because of new car shortages, and they are fetching prices beyond the KBB value in most cases. This has made the negotiation process even more difficult for customers because dealers can effectively name their price and realize higher profits for the same vehicle than they could a year ago.

The way that consumers buy new and used vehicles are sure to change drastically in the years to come. Dealerships will need to pivot with the changing tides and operate in a way that will not only be profitable for them but also fair to the consumers.

Your vehicle may be connected to the internet, devices, and even other cars; especially if it’s an autonomous vehicle. Each of these ways to connect brings with it a host of automotive cybersecurity challenges. Is your car safe or can it be hacked? Are you in danger of someone taking control of your vehicle while you’re behind the wheel? Cybersecurity experts say there are five ways that your car may be connected, and address the risks associated with each of them.

Connected cars impact automotive cybersecurity

Upstream Security published the 2021 Global Automotive Cybersecurity Report analyzing automotive cybersecurity risks. They say 86% of the global car market will be connected by 2025. What does a connected car mean? Data is shared between servers, apps, phones, among other things. As you might imagine, this leaves a lot of opportunities for vehicles to be hacked.

As more vehicles are connected in new ways, hackers have more vulnerabilities than ever to exploit. The amount of data that vehicles use and store make them a particularly attractive target for hackers and other types of criminals.

There are five ways that your car may be connected

There are five main ways that vehicles are connected. Each of these presents unique challenges in terms of automotive cybersecurity. Upstream details each of these ways in their report.

The first way is vehicle to infrastructure. This means that your vehicle is communicating with road infrastructure to get information about things like traffic and accidents. This uses hardware, software, and firmware to communicate. It is essential that self-driving vehicles be able to do this so that cars can drive safely.

Vehicle to vehicle is the second form of connectedness. As the name suggests, this is when vehicles communicate with one another. Vehicles share things like accident information, traffic information, and even details about their own car, like the speed they’re traveling.

Your vehicle can also communicate with the cloud and pedestrians

The third way that a vehicle may be connected is to the cloud. This allows your vehicle to exchange information and data about the applications that your vehicle uses. There’s also the possibility of a vehicle storing information about driver preferences in the cloud to adjust preferences.

Vehicle to pedestrian connectedness is when a vehicle communicates with other vehicles, mobile devices, and infrastructure to share information about pedestrians. An example of this is the radar, lidar, and camera-based systems for pedestrian detection.

Finally, your car may be connected to everything. While this sounds very generalized, it encompasses all the ways your vehicle can connect to other things. Some of these ways may include things like traffic lights or road signs.

As vehicle technology advances, automotive cybersecurity will become even more important. Know how your car is connected to the outside world. Be aware of the dangers associated with those connections, and know how to protect yourself. Keep software updated and be careful with third-party devices. These are two ways that people can keep themselves safer when utilizing some of the newer automotive technology. It’s also up to the car industry to prioritize automotive cybersecurity in every stage of vehicle production and afterward.

The Kardashian-Jenner family is known for their lavish lifestyle, and their car collections are no exception. From Rolls-Royce to vintage Mustangs, these celebrity sisters seem to have it all. While Kim, Kylie, Kendall, Kourtney, and Khloe’s car collections are a little different, each collection is still a car lover’s dream. Read on to learn how each sister’s car collection stacks up and discover who has the most expensive car collection of the bunch.

Kim Kardashian West’s car collection

There’s no denying that Kim Kardashian West is a powerful and wealthy woman. According to Forbes, the business mogul and American socialite have an estimated net worth of $1.2 billion. These types of funds provide Kim with the luxury of buying as many cars as she wants. Since coming to fame in the early 2000s, Kim Kardashian West has amassed quite the car collection. Kim’s most notable cars are the over $220,000 Ferrari 458 Spider, the more than $270,000 Bentley Continental GT Convertible, and the $750,000 Lamborghini Aventador.

Of all the Kardashian-Jenner sisters, Kim likely has the most expensive collection. According to Hot Cars, her car collection is likely worth upwards of $7 million. However, some of the cars in her collection she owns with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Kanye West. The West’s divorce might end up lowering the overall value of Kim’s collection and open up an opportunity for one of her sisters to take over the number one spot when it comes to having the most lavish car collection in upcoming years.

Kylie Jenner’s car collection

If any of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters are likely to best Kim Kardashian West in car collections, it will surely be the youngest of the bunch, Kylie Jenner. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Jenner’s current net worth is around $700 million. While Kylie’s net worth is less than her older sister’s, it still gives her tons of spending room when it comes to acquiring luxury vehicles. Screenrant reports that the 24-year-old’s car collection currently sits around $5 million. Some of Kylie Jenner’s most notable cars are her Lamborghini Aventador, LaFerrari, and Bugatti Chiron.

Kylie acquired her orange Lamborghini Aventador in 2018. At the time, the car set her back about $400,000. At this price tag, the Lamborghini Aventador is only in the mid-range when it comes to Kylie’s luxury collection. Two of Jenner’s more expensive vehicles are her LaFerrari and Bugatti Chiron. The rare LaFerrari’s are hard to come by as only 499 were made. Jenner was gifted this car by her boyfriend, rapper Travis Scott, after the birth of their daughter in 2018. This extravagant gift left Scott’s wallet $1.4 million thinner. However, Jenner’s most expensive car, the Bugatti Chiron, is worth around $3 million. She reportedly gifted herself this multi-million dollar car after splitting from Travis Scott in 2019.

Kendall Jenner’s car collection

Coming in third place for the most expensive car collection in the Kardashian-Jenner family is Kendall Jenner. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Jenner’s net worth currently sits around $45 million. The 25-year-old model has acquired a car collection filled with rare vintage vehicles with all her excess cash. Kendall’s most notable vintage cars are her 1957 Corvette Stingray Convertible, 1960 Cadillac Eldorado, 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible, and 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible.

Kourtney Kardashian’s car collection

Compared to her younger sisters, Kourtney Kardashian has a modest 25 cars in her collection. Autobizz estimates that with a net worth of around $35 million, the oldest Kardashian-Jenner sister has acquired a car collection of well over $1 million. The most notable cars in the oldest Kardashian-Jenner sister’s collection are the $360,000 Rolls-Royce Dawn, the $200,000 Aston Martin DB11, and the $200,000 Range Rover Vogue.

Khloe Kardashian’s car collection

Khloé Kardashian’s car collection is the most mysterious of the five sisters. Khloe’s collection seems to be somewhat under wraps, making it hard to estimate its overall value. According to Autobizz, some of Khloe’s most notable vehicles are her $350,000 Rolls-Royce Wraith, $450,000 Rolls-Royce Cullinan, and $450,000 Lamborghini Aventador LP 740 Roadster.

It looks like Kim Kardashian-West wins this round of being the Kardashian-Jenner sister with the most expensive car collection. Of course, with Kylie Jenner coming in closely behind Kim, it may take only a few years before the younger sister’s collection takes top honors. However, regardless of their rank, with the millions of dollars invested, the car collections of all the Kardashian-Jenner sisters are certainly impressive.
