The Hyundai Palisade debuted for the 2019 model year, competing with its beloved cousin, the Kia Telluride. The Palisade even shares a platform with the wildly popular “Selluride” and has quickly gained its own notoriety. This stylish midsize SUV boasts a punchy engine, luxurious details, and a spacious, comfortable interior.

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade looks much the same as the 2021 version. However, some interior features make this crossover an even better value for the new model year.

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade at a glance

Powertrain and fuel economy

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade uses the same powertrain as the previous year, a 291-hp V8 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drivers can program it with four drive modes (or five for all-wheel-drive models) and enjoy using the paddle shifters. TrueCar says the Palisade’s fuel economy is only average, rated for 19/26 mpg city/highway at best.

Although the Palisade is quiet on the highway, the engine doesn’t feel overly powerful when passing other vehicles. Likewise, the drive isn’t as engaging compared to rivals like the Ford Explorer. However, the Palisade is a great cruiser that keeps its composure even around tight corners. The ride is also seldom bothered, especially with the available auto-leveling suspension.

Interior features

As for the interior, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade takes styling cues from its luxury brand sibling, Genesis. Nappa leather seating comes standard on the Limited and Calligraphy trims, as does ventilation in the cabin seats. The interior also boasts leather door inserts and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. These two top trim levels also get 20-inch wheels instead of the standard 18-inch variety on the lower trims.

Even the base-model Palisade SE trim still feels luxurious by class standards, with adequately supportive cloth seats.

Like previous models, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade provides room for up to eight riders, though the third row could be too tight for some adults. However, it’s as supportive as the other two rows and is easy to access.

It also comes with a flat-folding third row and 60/40 split-folding second-row seatbacks. In total, the Hyundai Palisade boasts over 86 cubic feet of cargo space.

TrueCar says the second-tier Palisade SEL offers the most value, starting at $36,725. This trim allows buyers to access premium leather seating through an optional package. Another bundle provides even more safety features, convenience tech, and heated second-row seats.

The biggest changes to the 2022 Hyundai Palisade

This 2022 Hyundai Palisade is arguably the safest model yet, thanks to its added driver assists. Every Palisade trim now comes with rear-cross traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring. The standard safety suite also includes forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, driver attention monitoring, pedestrian detection, and rear parking sensors.

The Palisade Limited adds front parking sensors, a head-up display, and a 360-degree parking camera.

And although not technically a safety feature, the two top trims also come with a driver intercom. Drivers can project their voice over the radio to the backseat passengers without getting distracted from the road.

Is the 2022 model safer than the 2021?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, the highest honor from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Even the base model received the highest rating on all of its crash tests. The headlights are among the best in the segment. In fact, the competing Kia Telluride got only a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS due to its poor headlights on some trims.

The only area where the 2021 Palisade scored less than perfect was child seat installation ease. Regardless, the better-equipped 2022 Hyundai Palisade will likely also win Top Safety Pick+ when the IIHS has completed testing.

Supercars are meant to withstand many things: hard lateral g-forces, high tire temperatures, high RPMs, hard braking, and more. Ironically, the one weakness that they all seem to have is water. Water gives and sustains life. Yet, just a small amount of it in the wrong place can mean instant death for a supercar or many other types of cars as well.

The fix is relatively straightforward: keep cars away from water. Though, as simple as that seems, it is not always possible. Rob Ferretti of Gotham Dream Cars, unfortunately, found that out the hard way. Hurricane Ida was not kind to him, his business, or the valuable supercars housed at his facility.

Rob Ferretti’s business is all about supercars

If the name Rob Ferretti sounds familiar to you, that might be because you have come across his very popular YouTube channel, “superspeedersRob.” Rob started his YouTube channel about 14 years ago, and in the beginning, he uploaded street racing videos that featured run-ins with local law enforcement.

Over time, Rob’s channel evolved to featuring supercars that he owns or are owned by close friends of his. Eventually, Rob began to let his viewers get an inside look at his business, Gotham Dream Cars, an exotic car rental service based in New York. His car rental service became the main focus of his channel as he created videos detailing the ins and outs of running such an uncommon business.

Some of his videos would focus on supercar maintenance; others featured horror stories of customers damaging his cars and employing some scam to get away with it. That type of content has earned Ferretti nearly 800,000 subscribers.

Hurricane Ida strikes Gotham Dream Cars warehouse

Anyone following the news in the last few weeks is probably well aware of Hurricane Ida and its damage to the east coast. The hurricane had grown to a category four before it hit land on the east coast of the United States. The hurricane caused incalculable damage to homes, buildings, and businesses.

Unfortunately for Rob, Gotham Dream Cars was one of those victims. In a recent video, Rob describes the situation as sudden and completely unexpected. We are speculating that perhaps local weather forecasts in his area could not entirely predict the enormity of the storm. As such, Rob did not have the chance to prepare as thoroughly as he might have if he had more of a warning.

Surveying the damaged supercars

As a result, one of his warehouses which was home to several of his supercars and other business-related property, and documents became flooded. He watched it all unfold on the live feed of his security cameras installed in the building. “You just have to sit and watch,” Rob said as he cut to a clip of the water rushing into his warehouse.

Ferretti estimated that at its worse, there was 11 inches of standing water in the warehouse. Since supercars are generally low to the ground, that meant several saw their cabins filled with water. An Alfa Romeo 4C was among the damaged cars shown in the video. After opening the door, there seemed to be a few inches of water in the footwell of the Alfa.

An Acura NSX, Toyota Supra, Ferrari 360 Modena Spider, and Porsche 911 GT3 RS were also damaged. All of the cars suffered flooded floors. In some of the vehicles, the water caused electrical damage. For example, the Ferrari would not start as the water damaged the security system’s immobilizer mechanism.

At this point, Rob will have to discuss everything with his insurance company, and they may or may not decide to total some of the damaged vehicles. In the end, it appears that it will all result in a very stressful situation for Ferretti. Fortunately, Ferretti nor any of his employees or family were harmed. Cars can be replaced, but people can’t. If nothing else, this serves as a reminder to everyone of how important insurance can be.

We wish Rob the best, and we hope that he gets this situation sorted out as smoothly as possible.

The BMW iX3 is the brand’s latest EV, “SAV” (Sports Activity Vehicle), and it is eager to get the word out to as many potential customers as possible. One tried, and true method of marketing a vehicle is to partner with a blockbuster film that can serve prime product placement to an audience of millions. It is a tactic that Aston Martin and Land Rover are currently utilizing, and it appears to be working for them.

Nothing is bigger than Marvel Studios and their Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) when it comes to blockbuster films. For over 10 years, Marvel Studios has released hit movie after hit movie. Their most recent film, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is already breaking box office records, and thanks to a cross-promotional partnership, BMW is getting prime brand awareness from that success.

The BMW iX3 is the brand’s Tesla Model Y competitor

BMW iX3 | BMW

BMW is making a deliberate shift to offering more electric vehicles. They are a bit behind when it comes to other German brands like Audi. On the other hand, BMW has the brand cache to take their time and ensure they get their execution right. If they hope to have a realistic shot against the juggernaut that is Tesla, BMW needs to make sure they come correct with their EV offerings.

The BMW iX3 is their shot across the bow at the Tesla Model Y, and it appears that both vehicles will be in approximately the same class. It should be noted that the BMW iX3 will have a range of “up to” 285 miles while the Tesla Model Y Long Range has an EPA estimated range of 326 miles. The BMW iX3 currently does not have a listed MSRP, but we speculate it will fall somewhere between $50,000 and $60,000 given the Model Y’s starting MSRP of $53,990 (before incentives).

Where the BMW iX3 could take the advantage over its competitors is its features and options. If there is anything BMW knows how to do, it’s option a vehicle. The “Inspiring” trim (yes, it is really called that) is said to include metallic paintwork, adaptive suspension, automatic tailgate operation, a panoramic glass roof, electrically adjustable seats, a sport leather steering wheel, a storage package, and a three-zone automatic climate control system with pre-heating and pre-conditioning function.

That is just some of the options that customers will choose from once the BMW iX3 launches.

The iX3 makes a cameo in ‘Shang-Chi’

All the options, tech, and EV range in the world will not mean anything if people do not know about the BMW iX3 in the first place. As previously mentioned, to help get people interested in their upcoming EV crossover, BMW teamed up with Marvel Studios to get product placement in Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings.

The product placement goes well beyond just the BMW iX3. The BMW M8 and the i8 also make appearances in the film. However, it is easily the iX3 that gets the most screen time. We won’t divulge any spoilers here, but there is an action-packed chase scene with the BMW iX3 front and center.

Considering that Shang-Chi has a global box office take of well over 100 million dollars, we have to assume at least some of that audience will express interest in the iX3.

Feast your eyes on the Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport Lo-Floor truck. It could be a preview of what to expect with the Toyota Tacoma. Perhaps if the racing Toyota Hilux does well, we will get a version of it in the United States.

The Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport is ready to race

Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport | Toyota

Alright, so the Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport Lo-Floor truck is a mouthful. It could floor it off into the distance before we even finish saying its name. Also, turning the Hilux into a racer seems like the opposite of its purpose.

For a bit of background information, the Hilux is like the Toyota Tacoma’s cousin. The Hilux was the truck we had before the Tacoma. However, it was discontinued here in America due to rising emission standards.

Toyota decided that it would be easier to release a brand new truck instead of redesigning the Hilux to be more efficient. So, other countries get the midsized off-roading Hilux, while we get the legendary Tacoma.

Sometimes updates to vehicles are experimented with in other markets before the changes are made to American models. If the street racing Hilux gains popularity, we might see the Tacoma follow in its tracks.

How does the Hilux Rever GR Sport perform?

The Toyota Thai division is launching the Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport in an attempt to drum up interest in the street truck racing trend. Remember racers like the Ford Lighting and Chevy S10?

So far, the Revo Sport GR Lo-Floor has 17-inch wheels wrapped in tiny tires. The ride height was lowered by about an inch to provide a more stable ride, primarily at higher speeds. It should also improve comfort for passengers.

A 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine with 201 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque powers this racing truck. Power is sent to the rear axle via a six-speed automatic transmission. Strangely, it doesn’t have a manual option.

The Hilux Revo Hi-Floor has 18-inch alloy wheels and beefier tires. It also has monotube shock absorbers and a few suspension modifications. It won the Dakar Rally in 2019. We don’t have the updated specifications for the new model.

What’s new for the Tacoma?

The Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport models on the moon
The Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport models | Toyota

We might not see the Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport’s racing upgrades on the 2022 Toyota Tacoma yet. But when the Tacoma is redesigned for 2024, we could see a few enhancements for street racing.

For 2022, the Trail Edition and TRD Pro both sit half an inch taller in the rear and 1.1 and 1.5 inches taller in the front. This improves approach, break-over, and departure angles. Plus, the Tacoma TRD Pro has a new shade of Electric Lime paint.

The Trail Edition includes 16-inch bronze rims and bronze lettering on the grille. The TRD Pro also has new logos on the rear and new hood graphics. Pricing for the 2021 model starts at about $26,400. It may receive a slight increase for 2022.

While the Toyota Hilux gets wild in Thailand, the Tacoma is primarily a carryover model. But we will keep you updated as we learn more. Perhaps a hybrid model isn’t too far off in the future.
