There is nothing more frustrating than getting into your vehicle just to discover that your car battery has died. Many things can drain the life from your battery, including extreme temperatures, leaving electronics on, and even severe corrosion. While some of these issues can’t be avoided, battery corrosion can be, and it doesn’t have to cost you a ton of money. In fact, some very basic car battery maintenance can cost only a few dollars, and it can save you from having to replace your battery sooner rather than later.

The corrosion you see on the battery terminals is caused by the metal of the terminal and the metal of the cables touching — though this process is obviously necessary to ensure the battery can power the vehicle. One way to mitigate the negative effects of the battery’s operation and minimize corrosion is to use lubricating grease. Some authorities, such as Firestone, suggest that you can use a simple product that many people already have around their home: petroleum jelly. But, you can also get a small package of dielectric grease specifically designed for this application for around $0.99 to a few dollars at most automotive part stores.

Replace worn and corroded battery cable connectors

If you’ve started to notice the signs of heavy corrosion on the car battery terminals, you may have also noticed it on the cable connectors coming from the vehicle. In some circumstances, you can safely remove this corrosion without causing any further damage to the surface, but heavily corroded cable connectors that are damaged beyond repair sometimes require a complete replacement. This doesn’t mean having to replace the entire wire, either, as you can remove the old connectors and replace just this piece on both the positive and negative cables — another quick fix that you can find at most automotive part stores for only a few dollars.

Those little felt corrosion prevention washers you see in the battery section of the store

If you’ve decided to stop by your local automotive store to pick up dielectric grease, replace your battery altogether, or any other reason, a quick stop by the battery section may have you wondering about the small package of felt washers you can find here. A set of these costs a few dollars and can be combined with dielectric grease or petroleum jelly to help minimize the risk of corrosion. These felt washers are often treated with a corrosion preventative, and for the low price, it doesn’t hurt to add them to your cart.

If you’ve followed these inexpensive and basic steps but you are still noticing a quick and severe buildup of corrosion on your car battery terminals, there could be an underlying problem that is worth checking out. In extreme circumstances, battery corrosion can reduce the life of your battery, leading you to spend money to replace them sooner rather than at the end of their full life expectancy.

Did someone mess around with witchcraft? We’re looking at you, Ram, because the Ram Dakota is officially being resurrected. But unfortunately, Ram is taking their sweet time because this mid-size model isn’t expected until 2024.

The 2024 Ram Dakota is on the way

2024 RAM Dakota Rendering | Pickup Truck News

If you recall, the 1987 Dodge Dakota busted into the scene to fill the gap between the full-sized Dodge Ram and compact Dodge Ram 50. It was styled like the full-size Ram. It had two Chrysler-built engines.

The 2.2-liter four-cylinder option was already being used, and a specially created 3.9-liter V6 was developed for the Dakota. Later the Dakota received a V8 and a convertible version. As a fun-to-drive truck with good fuel efficiency, over 104,865 models were sold during its first year.

With significant engine and interior upgrades, the Dakota remained a popular option into the 2000s. But the Dodge Ram Dakota was discontinued in 20211 due to the decreasing demand for compact trucks. The platform was used for the more popular Dodge Durango.

What to expect with the new Dakota

Now the 2024 Ram Dakota will make a triumphant return to battle rivals such as the Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, and Toyota Tacoma. But it’s a little challenging to determine what Stellnatis is planning so far.

The new Dakota could ride on a body-on-frame platform like the Honda Ridgeline. The Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz are two compact trucks that decided to go this route to favor sportier handling.

But it could also share the same chassis as the Jeep Gladiator for enhanced off-roading capabilities. But those who want an off-roader may go with the Jeep Gladiator, and Ram already sells a mid-size option that’s similar to the Santa Cruz in other countries.

In Brazil, the truck is called the Fiat Toro, but in other countries, it’s known as the Ram 1000. It has a 1.3-liter engine with 185 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can also choose the 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine with 170 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

This is a little weak for the market in America. For example, the Ford Ranger has a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. But the Dakota could get the 3.6-liter V6 engine with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel generates 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque.

What we do know about the Dakota

The 2024 Ram Dakota will be a smaller version of the Ram 1500. It will be like the baby Ram 1500 with similar LED headlights, a matching grille, and the same body lines to easily be recognized.

We expect the interior to be similar as well, with a large vertically oriented infotainment screen. But the Ram 1500 may have a few modern updates by the time 2024 arrives. Perhaps the Dakota will feature Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as other advanced amenities.

The classic Dodge Ram Dakota was a convertible at one point. So, the new model could have removable roof panels. So far, pricing is rumored to begin at about $26,000 to match competitors. We will keep you updated as we learn more.

Two thieves in Detroit, Michigan, decided it would be a great idea to steal a 2021 C8 Corvette off of a dealer’s lot. It was not a good idea. This clown show ended up with both arrested and the Corvette totaled. If you’re going to steal a Corvette, don’t do it like this.

The precautions and security today makes stealing a C8 Corvette folly

The list of why you don’t want to steal any car from a dealership is a long one. Dealerships have many, many cameras for just this reason; security. And all dealerships have a dedicated staff that man the lookouts almost 24/7. The list continues with “don’t do it” and ends with “don’t do it.”

But there is another reason not to attempt this. All GM products have OnStar systems that can easily and instantly track vehicles. So, no matter where the vehicle goes or ends up, OnStar knows exactly where it is and has a direct line to numerous law enforcement agencies.

The thieves swiped the Corvette around 10 in the morning according to Click On Detroit. Novi Police Department was immediately contacted. Tracking where it was with the help of OnStar was easy.

When the Corvette thieves took off you knew this would end badly

A police chase ensued once the Corvette was spotted. You have to figure that if you’re driving a stolen Corvette and you see those two big cherries flashing in your rearview mirror, your best bet is to immediately pull over. Instead, the thieves took off.

As bad as the thieves were at car theft, they were much worse at driving. The police eventually found the black Corvette with the thieves inside. When the thieves spotted the approaching police they took off.

The thieves whipped the Corvette onto a service road for I-75. They didn’t get too far once they smacked into a parked van spinning out into several other parked cars. Police found scattered pieces of Corvette and a smoking hulk at the scene. The thieves had taken off on foot.

Once the Corvette thieves crashed a foot pursuit began

Next, the police drove through an apartment complex hunting for the thieves. Police were also on foot so between the patrol car and officers canvassing on foot it wasn’t long before the thieves were spotted and gave up. Before the identity of the thieves is revealed the video ends.

Stolen car reports from local car dealers matched this Corvette theft. . The Novi Police are currently putting their case together against the Corvette thieves. Between security cameras and location monitoring like OnStar and Lokar, stealing cars might just go the way of marathon dancing and black and white TV.

It is no surprise that the price of used cars is very high right now, but things might get worse before getting better. But when it comes to buying a used 2019 Tesla Model 3, you may as well purchase a new Model 3 from the factory.

Buying a used 2019 Tesla Model 3 is expensive right now

One user on Twitter (The Kilowatts) priced out the trade-in value for his 2019 Tesla Model 3 Long Range all-wheel drive model. With the deep blue metallic paint and Full Self-Driving Capability, Tesla offered a trade-in value of $67,500. This Model 3 has 15,000 miles on it currently. Tesla no longer offers the Long Range model.

Using the Tesla custom order feature, buyers can price out a brand new 2021 Model 3 with the same specs. The 2021 Tesla Model 3 Performance version in deep blue metallic paint and FSD comes to $67,990. No matter how you slice it, that’s insane. A car with 15,000 miles is the same price right now as a brand-new Tesla with zero miles?

Some buyers don’t want to wait for production or don’t want to risk not getting a Tesla due to various constraints on the industry. If someone wants to pay extra for a used Tesla Model 3, now is probably a good time to do it.

How much does a used Tesla car cost?

Tesla avoided the semiconductor chip shortage for a while, but the drought eventually impacted production. 2021 Tesla Model 3 vehicles ordered today have a scheduled delivery date of seven to 11 weeks. Right now, you can view used Tesla inventory on the website.

But the 2019 Tesla Model 3 isn’t alone in this phenomenon. There is a 2020 Model S Performance AWD option with 11,178 miles on it for sale for $105,000, plus a $2,5000 transportation fee. That’s a measly $1,478 a month! A 2018 Model S 100D Ludicrous Performance AWD with 48,281 miles is listed at $90,500. That’s only $1,274 a month. If you were to purchase a Model S new, the Long Range option is $79,490. The Plaid model starts at $124,490.

So essentially, the price of a used Tesla is right up there with the price of a new Tesla. The prices vary based on the model, mileage, and other features like FSD, but that’s still quite an anomaly.

The Toyota 4Runner and Kia Telluride would like a word

Right now, the 2021 Toyota 4Runner is one of the more popular vehicles on the market with low inventory. According to Jalopnik, one user on the Toyota 4Runner subreddit found a New York dealership marking up the popular SUV. Millennium Toyota in Long Island marked up a 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro, which had an initial cost of $52,753. Due to “limited availability,” the dealership added $23,000 to the price, bringing the total to $75,753.

Another 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro in the Lunar Rock color had an MSRP of $52,569. The note on the window sticker has “+$30,000” due to limited availability bringing the price up to $82,569. The Kia Telluride saw similar markups. A 2021 Kia Telluride SX SUV was listed on a dealership’s website for a final price of $78,995. The retail price is $53,505, with a markup of over $25,490.

So it seems Tesla is playing the supply and demand game and might be winning. If you want a 2019 Tesla Model 3 right now, you are going to pay for it. If you desire a 2021 Tesla Model 3, place the order now before delivery dates get pushed to 2022. There’s always a chance that happens anyway, given the tumultuous market conditions.
