The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye is one of the most powerful muscle cars on the market. It also happens to be one of the fastest muscle cars of all time. The Dodge Challenger debuted in 1970 as a muscle car that could compete with the likes of the popular 1964 Ford Mustang.

Over the years, the rivalry between Ford and Dodge only grew stronger as the American automakers competed for best muscle car. Ford Mustangs are iconic, but Dodge Challengers and Dodge Chargers have earned their place in history as well. A custom 1968 Hellcat-powered Dodge Charger is featured in the newest Fast and Furious film. This proves that Dodge’s handiwork is universally acknowledged, and its famous nameplates aren’t going anywhere.

We know Dodge produces some great muscle cars, but the real question is, which is its fastest muscle car? The short answer is, it’s difficult to say. The 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat can make up to 807 horsepower at its highest trim level. The 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat makes 797 horsepower at its highest trim level. The muscle cars both use a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine.

The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat takes 3.5 seconds to go from 0-60 miles per hour. The Dodge Challenger SRT does 0-60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds. 0.2 of a second may not mean much to most consumers, but many would argue this means the Charger SRT Hellcat is the faster muscle car. Many police departments use Dodge Chargers as their patrol vehicles. Unfortunately for them, SRT Hellcats aren’t exactly in the budget.

While Dodge Charger SRT Hellcats may be able to compete with Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcats, regular old Dodge Chargers are completely outclassed. The difference in horsepower is at least 400 horses, but according to Motor1, some folks had to experience the difference in speed for themselves. A police Charger drag raced a Challenger SRT Hellcat and SRT Hellcat Redeye.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye completed the quarter-mile over four seconds faster than the Dodge Charger and its non-Hellcat engine. The Challenger SRT Hellcat completed the quarter-mile slightly over two seconds faster than the charger. Dodge makes great muscle cars all around, but this drag race proved that Hellcats are just entirely different animals than the rest of Dodge’s lineup.

The Hellcat engine is one of the most exciting engines in modern times. Try as they may, other engines usually can’t come anywhere close to it. A Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye rarely meets a challenge it can’t overcome.

The battle of the compact pickup truck is in full swing. The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz pricing is finally out, but how does it compare to the 2022 Ford Maverick? That depends on which trim level you choose and what features are most important. Buyers can get a lot of truck for under $40,000.

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz pricing was released this week ahead of the summer 2021 deliveries. For the Santa Cruz, this truck has four available trims to start. The SE trim starts at $23,990 and has a 3,500-pound towing capacity. The payload is 1,748 pounds. Moving up to the SEL trim, the estimated starting MSRP is $27,190 with the same capacities.

The Santa Cruz SEL Premium trim goes up quite a bit to $35,680. This offers an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and optional all-wheel drive. It also has the Hyundai digital key. The Limited trim starts at $39,720. It has ventilated and heated leather seats and a leather steering wheel.

The Ford Maverick pickup truck is starting at $19,995. The Maverick has a max payload of 1,500 pounds. It can tow 2,000 pounds across the board. The all-wheel drive option increases the towing capacity to 4,000 pounds – with the optional towing package. The XLT trim starts at $22,280, while the Lariat starts at $25,490.

Is the Hyundai Santa Cruz worth the extra cash over the Ford Maverick?

The Santa Cruz has a lot of standard features to start. It comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Lane Following Assist. Allow wheels and lane-keeping assist are restricted to the higher trims on the Maverick. It also lacks wireless phone integration, which seems like an oversight for a 2022 model.

The base-level Santa Cruz is about $4,000 more than the base-level Maverick. It compares more to the XLT trim of the Maverick, which starts at $22,280. If drivers want AWD on the Santa Cruz, the price is an extra $1,500. It does come standard on the SEL Premium and Limited trims. And for that, the truck comes with a turbo 2.5L engine.

However, you can get every available feature Ford offers on the Maverick, plus the top Lariat trim, and it won’t go over $37,000. Every possible addition included came out to an extra $9,045. The destination charge to deliver your new truck is $1,495. Which makes the total for the Ford Maverick is $36,030. That’s a monthly payment of $473 a month, which could be much higher.

Price aside, these compact trucks are loaded

Even though this pickup truck is capable of a lot, the better truck choice might depend on what buyers want to do with it. Both trucks offer room for five passengers in the unibody design, and both offer a variety of trims. Due to the compact nature of the vehicles, both the Hyundai Santa Cruz and the Ford Maverick should be fairly easy to maneuver.

The Santa Cruz has two gasoline options for the engine, but it comes in front-wheel-drive or all-wheel drive. This truck gets an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city, 26-27 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined. The all-wheel drive option comes with a turbocharged engine getting 19 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. Ford has a given the Maverick a targeted EPA-estimated 40 mpg city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 37 mpg combined. This might vary as the Maverick rolls out.

These days, buyers don’t have to compromise on choosing pickup truck functionality with sedan driveability. These trucks can do it all. The safety features and technology on both the Hyundai Santa Cruz and the Ford Maverick have somehow made the idea of a pickup truck truly exciting.

Each time you slide behind the wheel, you’re supposed to do everything in your power to ensure you follow car safety rules so that your actions don’t endanger others. It doesn’t matter if you’re on the highway or off-roading — you must follow the rules and remain alert for both human and animal life to avoid accidents. A single bad choice behind the wheel can trigger devastating consequences.

A perfect example of this recently took place in a National Park. A driver decided to ignore the fact that a beach that’s part of the National Park system was off-limits to off-roading. Their actions cost an endangered sea turtle her life.

KIRO 7 recently reported the sad news that one of the sea turtles that use the beach that makes up part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore was recently found lying, deceased, on the sand. Evidence strongly suggests that the turtle was struck and run over by a vehicle that was off-roading on the beach.

It’s always heartbreaking when a turtle is hit and killed. They’re a peaceful animal that lacks the speed and agility needed to avoid motorists. Making this story even sadder is that this was a loggerhead sea turtle, an endangered species that had crawled out of the sea to lay eggs. Because this is the time of year that the loggerhead sea turtles always lay their eggs, that section of the beach had been closed off to traffic in an attempt to provide the turtles with some much-needed privacy and protection. Clearly, someone ignored the signs and decided to go off-roading on the beach

What is so special about loggerhead sea turtles?

Loggerhead turtles take their name from the fact that they have powerful jaws and heads that appear massive compared to their shelled body. While loggerhead turtles are the most commonly found sea turtles in the Atlantic Ocean waters that border the Eastern United States, the population has been in a state of rapid decline. Ocean pollution, destruction of nesting habitats, and fishing habits have decimated the loggerhead turtle population. 

What’s really alarming about the decline in loggerhead numbers is that they are considered a keystone species that plays a pivotal role in the Atlantic Ocean’s ecosystem.

The Loggerhead is considered a “keystone species,” meaning that other animals in its ecosystem depend on it for survival,” Joel Sartore wrote in a National Geographic article. “These turtles feed on invertebrates, whose shells pass through their digestive systems and, upon excretion, fall back to the bottom of the ocean for other animals to eat as a calcium source. Predators also rely on loggerhead hatchlings for food, while more than a hundred species of animals — including barnacles, crabs, and algae — live on their shells.

According to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the loggerhead turtle was originally put on the Endangered and Threatened Species List on July 28, 1978.

The truth about off-roading on federal land

While off-roading isn’t exactly prohibited on Federal land, there are strict rules drivers are expected to follow. If you want to go off-roading in one of the national parks, you must understand that while some areas allow you to off-road, the National Park Service (NPS) also has several areas where off-roading is banned.

If you want to go off-roading in a national park, the first thing you have to do is purchase a permit from the NPS. The second order of business is directly contacting the park’s management team that you’re visiting. Don’t be surprised if you’re told that the park staff doesn’t allow you to take your vehicle off-road in any part of the park. Most national parks aren’t equipped to deal with the damage off-roading does to the wildlife and flora. The few national parks that allow you to go off-roading have particular areas where you’re allowed to drive and usually limit the number of drivers who can enjoy the experience.

Failing to follow the rules the NPS has regarding off-roading in parks will result in severe consequences. The driver who chose to ignore the signs about not driving on the beach where the turtles were nesting faces a $5,000 fine and a possible six-month jail sentence for driving in a restricted area. An additional $5,000 fine and six months of jail time could be added if they’re also found guilty of violations to wildlife/plants/natural features. Since their actions directly resulted in the death of an endangered species, they could be convicted of violating the Endangered Species Act, which includes a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a $50,000 fine. Additional civil penalties that add up to $25,000 could be attached.

When you look at how much a guilty conviction could cost the drivers, the few minutes of fun they may have experienced while driving on the beach doesn’t seem worthwhile.

It won’t be (too) long before people in Japan can travel nearly four hundred miles in an hour. A company in Japan has been working on making the maglev train even faster, as well as expanding access. In just seven years, Japan’s levitating train will be a thing – and it will be able to travel at unbelievable speeds. The best part? It’s electric – and it may eventually come to the United States.

What is Japan’s new levitating train all about?

Japan’s train is known as a shinkansen train. It’s a maglev train, which means that it uses magnetic levitation to move. Magnetic levitation is just what it sounds like: the train uses magnets and coils to levitate over the tracks. This allows the train to move at even faster speeds than a typical train. However, the train will travel on rubber wheels when going at low speeds. 

The type of technology used in maglev trains allows them to use less energy than an airplane. This means large numbers of people could travel faster and with less of a negative environmental impact. The shinkansen train will always use electricity, even when driving on wheels. 

Car and Driver reports that Japan’s levitating train will be made by Japan Railway Group’s Series L0. It isn’t Japan Railway Group’s only project. There’s also a Linear Project, which the shinkansen train will be added to. 

Where will Japan’s new maglev train travel?

The new train will connect Tokyo and Nagoya, a distance of 178 miles. This route will only take 40 minutes for the new train to traverse. Car and Driver notes that this route will largely be underground, through tunnels, due to seismic activity in the area. Japan’s Railway Group has plans to add the 100-mile route to Osaka in 2037. It will take approximately 67 minutes to travel this route. 

How fast will the shinkansen train be?

Although the shinkansen train will be capable of 375 mph, it won’t generally travel that fast. Its expected top speed is about 311 mph, which is still amazingly fast. It’s worth mentioning that 375 mph is the current world record in railway speed.

JR Central’s website, which has information about their current and upcoming projects, says that it’s technically possible for a train to travel faster than 375 mph. Especially with the maglev technology, it is feasible. However, it’s not practical, considering the extra equipment it would take to keep this operating safely.

It’s possible that the U.S. will eventually get something like the shinkansen train. Among these projects is the idea of a “SCHMAGLEV” train, which could potentially come to the United States at some point. JR Central says they’re hoping to put a train in the northeast United States. Cities mentioned on their website include New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia. It also mentions that it could reduce travel between New York and Washington D.C. in just an hour. This would be huge for business as well as politics. 

If maglev trains become more widespread and connect cities that previously took longer amounts of time, it could mean big things for business and politics. Additionally, it could be a great move for the environment.
