Your home garage requires maintenance to address messes that arise as you work on various projects. For instance, sawdust, dirt, and liquids can be hard to clean with a regular vacuum cleaner. For bigger messes, you’ll need a shop vac, also known as a wet/dry vac.

Shop vacs are also more versatile than regular vacuums because the can reverse suction to let you use them as blowers too. In addition, you can use these machines as a dust collection system by attaching the hose to the dust port of your miter saw, sander, circular saw, or other compatible tool.

So if your budget will allow it, consider one of the three models below.

How to choose the best shop vac for your garage and car

Size is an important factor when searching for shop vacs. Massive machines are ideal if you expect to clean up huge messes, but they also occupy considerable space and are heavy and bulky. Smaller, lightweight models are more useful for assorted tasks because they’re easier to work with, especially when your garage is crowded. If you want more mobility, consider a cordless model that can share batteries with your existing power tools, Popular Mechanics reports.

Roadshow by CNET recommends that you also consider the following factors before choosing a shop vac:

  • Dry/wet cleanups. If you’ll be cleaning water or other wet messes, you should buy a shop vac made to handle liquids.
  • Tank size. If you need a machine for cleaning your vehicle or a small garage, it’s better to buy one with a smaller tank. However, if you need to clean a large garage, find a model with a larger tank.
  • How to use it. Consider whether you have used a similar type of appliance before, and take time to study the manufacturer’s instructions. This will ensure your safety and the vacuum cleaner’s continued efficiency.
  • Maintenance. You should know how to maintain the shop vac you purchase. This includes knowing how to clean it, empty the vacuum, and change filters properly.

Whatever you need to clean up in your garage or car, here are three of the best shop vacs money can buy. (By the way, we do not receive compensation for our recommendations.)

DeWalt 1/2-gallon cordless shop vac with starter kit

Despite its small stature, the DeWalt 1/2-gallon cordless shop vac  packs plenty of power thanks to its 3.0Ah battery and 20V motor. You can easily tote it around the house or to a remote job site thanks to its handheld design. It’s also light enough for you to lift and clean shelves, cupboards, and even under your workbench. Additionally, you can disengage the hose to run it along cracks or crevices to reach debris, or use it as a Dustbuster-style tool because it is very flexible. You can this model with a cordless starter kit on Amazon for about $230.

Makita 2-gallon cordless shop vac with dust extractor

Designed with organization in mind, the Makita two-gallon cordless shop vac has hose indentations and other accessories molded onto it. This ensures the unit takes up minimal space during transport and storage. It weighs only 10 pounds and, with a top-mounted handle, is highly mobile compared to most other options. It’s also practical, with two 5.0Ah batteries that can last as long as 60 minutes. This model with a dust extractor and vacuum kit through Amazon costs $399 as of this writing.

Bosch 9-gallon dust extractor with auto-filter clean and HEPA filter

Bosch designed this shop vac to clean as much dust as possible. So this model is ideal when you need a workspace free of dust or have to remove fine dust indoors, such as drywall dust. It works well with a particulate air filter and even cleans the filter itself, doing so every 15 seconds to maintain maximum suction. This shop vac can also suck up any liquid spills without damaging the motor because its shuts off automatically after reaching a certain limit. It costs about $600 on Amazon.

Overall, if you’re not concerned about the price of shop vacs, it’s best to purchase one with numerous practical features and uses. Ensure that you also reseach these machines to determine which one works best for your needs and garage space.

From buyers shopping for a brand new Taco to the ones that are on the lookout for a used Toyota Tacoma, everyone needs insurance for their truck. That Toyota Tacoma for sale that you’ve been eyeing is going to cost some hard-earned money. But is Tacoma insurance expensive too?

2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro | Mecum

The average cost to insure a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck isn’t outrageous. However, it’s a little more complicated than saying that every Taco is going to cost relatively the same amount per year to insure. According to Bankrate, Toyota Tacoma insurance is actually a bit cheaper on average than yearly car insurance in general.

How much is insurance for a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck?

2018 Toyota Tacoma | Toyota

Bankrate reports that, on average, it costs drivers $1,539 per year to insure a Tacoma. So, Toyota Tacoma insurance isn’t wildly expensive. However, it can vary quite a bit.

Depending on what Bankrate calls “nuances,” the cost of insurance for trucks is different from person to person. The differences that affect Toyota Tacoma insurance prices are the same things that affect average insurance pricing for other models too. These include variables like the age of a driver and where they live.

In addition, there are other factors that come into play like an individual’s credit history and driving record. Then there are other, more vehicle-related elements such as the crash ratings or which safety features a model has. The average cost of parts and repairs also influences the final quote for yearly truck insurance costs

Even down to the specific zip code, insurance companies look at almost every detail in order to calculate truck insurance costs. Depending on how far away people live from plants, dealerships, and repair mechanics, rates can increase or decrease. Overall, more goes into the cost of insuring that new Toyota Tacoma than one might think.

Is truck insurance expensive?

According to The Zebra, insurance for trucks is the second cheapest on average compared with other vehicle classes. The Zebra reports that the average insurance cost for a pickup truck in the U.S. for a full coverage yearly premium is $1,731. The cheapest pickup truck to insure is the Chevy Colorado.

The 2020 Chevy Colorado shows an average full coverage yearly cost of $1,113. A 2020 Toyota Tacoma costs an average of about $1,163, or $50 more per year than the Chevy Colorado. On average, the Taco is less costly to insure than a number of other pickup trucks.

Is full coverage worth it?

Usually, if you finance a vehicle, full coverage insurance is part of the deal. But what if you pay cash, or finance through other more unconventional means? While full coverage Toyota Tacoma insurance does cost significantly more, it’s probably worth it to protect the investment.

Bankrate shows that the average minimum coverage cost for a Taco pickup truck is $486. The average for full coverage is $1,539. That’s a pretty large difference, but, in my experience, the way that full coverage ponies up when you actually have an accident is well worth the yearly premium.

Buying Toyota Tacoma insurance

One thing is certain. Buying a new or used Toyota Tacoma model means you’ll have to buy insurance for it too. Toyota Tacoma insurance isn’t the most expensive cost to insure a truck out there.

However, it does vary depending upon several important factors. Both driver and vehicle related considerations come into play. When it comes to buying Toyota Tacoma insurance, it’s important to do plenty of research and compare quotes from several insurance companies.

Used car prices might be on the rise, but so is the reliability of used vehicles overall. The Subaru brand is known for its dependability, fuel efficiency, and off-road capability, as is the Forester SUV. What more could drivers ask for? Safety is a big issue that the Subaru brand tackles flawlessly, no matter the vehicle.

Is the Subaru Forester worth buying?

2016 Subaru Forester | Subaru

The 2016 Subaru Forester has relatively good ratings across the board. Consumer Reports gave the Forester a reliability and owner satisfaction of score of four out of five. One thing that Subaru is known for is its safety features. The 2016 Forester has a rear-view camera, anti-lock brakes, traction control, and stability control.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also had positive things to say about the Forester. For the most part, the SUV received a score of “good” during most of the crash tests. One area of improvement was the headlights, but the crash ratings were positive. It received the Top Safety Pick+ for that model year.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2016 Subaru Forester four and five-star ratings for the crash tests performed. While safety features have come a long way since 2016, the Forester is still well-equipped for adventure.

What else does the 2016 Subaru Forester get right?

The 2016 Subaru Forester topped the list of fuel-efficient five-year-old vehicles, which doesn’t come as a surprise. It uses a 2.5L four-cylinder engine coupled with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The Forester fuel numbers came in at 26 mpg overall, 18 mpg in the city, and 35 mpg on the highway. Consumer Reports estimated the annual fuel cost to be around $1,115.

“The Forester aces the fundamentals with a space-efficient design, large windows, and big square doors. That recipe has resulted in the easiest access and the best view out of almost any vehicle, and one of the roomiest rear seats in the class, with copious head and leg room.”

Consumer Reports

The Subaru Forester excelled in many areas, including the overall practicality of the vehicle. Consumer Reports raved about the visibility, easy access to the back seat and cargo area, and the capable all-wheel drive system.

What are some other fuel efficient options?

When it comes down to it, fuel efficiency and reliability are some of the most important factors when choosing a car. Another option that checks both of these boxes is the Mazda CX-5. The CX-5 has a history of reliability while also offering buyers a reasonably priced SUV. The 2016 version almost matched the Forester with 25 mpg combined.

The Honda CR-V is another driver favorite. Known for being a reliable SUV that can run for over 100,000 miles, drivers can be sure this vehicle will last a long time. The Honda warranty isn’t bad either, plus it gets 24 mpg combined. Other fuel-efficient five-year-old vehicles of note are the 2016 Lexus NX, Nissan Rogue, and Toyota RAV4. All of these options get 24 mpg combined.

While the used car and SUV market is a bit upside down right now, the 2016 Subaru Forester won’t let you down. Subaru knows what it is doing, making a safe and reliable car that won’t break the bank, no matter what adventures you throw at it.
