Now that the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid has been out for a while, critics can see how well it performs after accruing significant amounts of miles on the road. This will help us determine if the Ford F-150 PowerBoost is a good option for long trips and family vacations.

Is the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid good for families?

Yes, the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid is a great family option. It has enough space for everyone, including the dog, and it has a great fuel economy. The Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

But after spending a significant amount of time behind the wheel, there are a few pros and cons to consider. The team at Cars.com has spent seven months behind the wheel of an F-150 Hybrid, and they’ve racked up 7,000 miles across the country so far to provide an accurate review of what living with this truck is like.

Potential F-150 Hybrid drawbacks

According to the Cars.com team, the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid has a bit of a bumpy ride. On family road trips with the F-150 Limited and 22-inch wheels turned out to be rough. While riding over bumps, jolts were felt in the cabin, ruining any chance for kids and toddlers to nap. But the F-150 PowerBoost received midyear updates, including an adaptive suspension that most likely improves its ride quality.

They’re keeping an eye out for potential transmission issues while shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and idling roughness. The power-folding shifty seems to be unsteady, but the dealership inspected the truck and noted that everything is fine.

The hands-on lane-centering steering seemed to have trouble recognizing when drivers had their hands on the wheel. This spurred warnings to keep their hands on the wheel when they already were. It was a potential cause for frustration during long trips.

What families like about the Ford F-150 PowerBoost

The 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid proves itself as an excellent option for towing. While towing a 25-foot Airstream, it never lacked power or felt unsteady. Plus, the tech features such as Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Blind Spot System with Trailer Coverage make things much easier.

With the F-150 Hybrid, you get a 3.5-liter V6 engine that’s paired with a 47-hp electric motor and 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery to crank out 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. It can tow up to 12,700 lbs and carry a payload capacity of 2,120 lbs.

Also, the F-150 Hybrid is pretty comfortable. It has massive seats in the front and rear. The Max Recline seats can almost provide a flat surface for napping, plus the climate control system is powerful and effective.

Use the Pro Power Onboard Generator to power your campsite. I used it to power a medium-sized camper. The lights, oven, AC, and more all had plenty of juice. The power outlets in the bed are very convenient.

An 8.0-inch infotainment system comes standard, but you can upgrade to the 12.0-inch unit. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. You can opt for the wireless charger, Wi-Fi hotspot, and navigation. Plenty of USB ports are available too.

Key standard safety features include automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection. You can add lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.

The Ford F-150 Hybrid is proving to be a pretty good option for families and daily driving. It may be a little bumpier than rivals, but it makes towing and adventuring much more manageable with plenty of space to keep all passengers happy.

When it comes to fun and adventuresome SUVs, few can match the 4Runner. Not only is it as safe and reliable as any other Toyota, but it’s also capable. Here’s a look at why the 2021 Toyota 4Runner is an excellent choice for your next beach adventure.

What makes a car great for the beach?

When it comes to summer vacations, many people are probably looking to the beach. Not only are beaches a great way to cool off from the summer heat, but they’re also a good place to socialize, relax, and enjoy nature. And one way to maximize that enjoyment is by driving a vehicle that’s well-suited to various terrains.

To that end, Carfax compiled a list of the nine best cars for the beach. To find them, Carfax evaluated vehicles’ prices, utility, and off-roading ability. Of those nine models, a few aren’t surprising, such as the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco. Another unsurprising pick was the 2021 Toyota 4Runner.

Why the 2021 Toyota 4Runner is among the best beach vehicles

At a starting price of about $36,300, the 4Runner is one of the more expensive options on Carfax’s list, but it’s arguably worth the money. After all, like other Toyota vehicles, the 4Runner lives up to the automaker’s reputation for making safe and reliable cars. As such, 4Runner drivers probably won’t have to worry about breaking down or getting into a serious accident while on their beach trip.

On top of that, the 4Runner is a capable off-roader, so it can easily handle the beach and surrounding areas. Not only that, but this SUV is also spacious and powerful enough to haul quite a bit of gear. For example, its standard 4.0-liter V6 engine makes about 270 hp, allowing it to tow up to 5,000 pounds, Carfax reports.

Furthermore, the 4Runner’s 88.8 cubic feet of cargo capacity is more than enough to bring all of your beach gear. That said, though Toyota built this SUV to go off-road, it’s still a decent vehicle for everyday driving.

An overview of the 2021 Toyota 4Runner

The 4Runner is a rugged SUV that’s also safe in the event of an accident. But to prevent crashes, this SUV comes with the Toyota Safety Sense P suite of driver assists, Carfax reports. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance, lane departure warning, and more.

Plus, despite being the elder statesman of SUVs, the 4Runner boasts an interior that’s spacious and relatively advanced. The cabin is large enough to seat passengers comfortably, and it also has a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.

However, the 4Runner isn’t without issues. For example, because Toyota designed this SUV for offroading, it’s not the most comfortable vehicle to sit around in when not off-roading. Furthermore, the 4Runner’s engine, though powerful and reliable, isn’t fuel-efficient, getting only 16 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.

But overall, if you’re looking for a solid SUV for hauling people and gear, the 2021 Toyota 4Runner is an excellent choice. It’ll take you to the beach and beyond.

There’s nothing better than enjoying a summer day out on a boat with friends and family. And following proper boating safety guidelines can make the difference between a fun afternoon and an unnecessary trip to the emergency room. Unfortunately, the day can turn deadly when boat operators don’t follow proper safety precautions.

Everyone has heard of horrendous accidents involving parties on boats, careless operators, or unexpected bad weather. Most people don’t realize there’s an often overlooked danger that can be catastrophic, but it’s easily preventable.

How to avoid the hidden danger in boating

What seems like common sense is something many recreational boaters overlook. Simply turning off the boat propeller can prevent a host of accidents that sometimes result in unforeseen tragedy.

According to Ace Boater, a boat engine propeller strike is a “very serious hidden danger in boating.” The boating certification site claims that 4 percent of boating fatalities result from propeller-related accidents.

The site explains that “because of the speed and torque, this hidden danger has the potential to kill, mangle, or permanently disfigure an unsuspecting person in the water.”

Ensure the propeller is off before anyone goes swimming

Boat propellers operate below the waterline, making them hard to see by those in the boat or the water. That’s why boating safety protocol requires the engine is turned off whenever passengers are boarding or exiting the watercraft.

It’s essential never to leave a propeller on when people are swimming nearby, especially when they’re close to the back of the boat, where the propeller is located.

Also, passengers should never sit on the seatbacks or bows when the boat is moving. Falling into the water could end in catastrophic harm from the spinning propeller.

Safety devices such as propeller guards, interlocks, and sensors are recommended and can prevent serious harm.

How to prevent death or serious injury when boating

Gary and Lora Polson designed the website Propeller Safety to promote boating safety. Passionate about educating boaters about the dangers of propeller strikes, they have witnessed the horrific results of preventable tragedies.

On their website, the Polsons describe common accident scenarios that include “boat ejections, Circle of Death accidents, outboard motors striking submerged objects breaking off and flipping into boats, kill switch lanyard preventable accidents, and boat propeller accident at the swim ladder.”

Most propeller accidents occur when tubers or water skiers get hit by their own boat as it circles back to retrieve them. Other occurrences include being hit by another boat that didn’t see the person in the water.

Passengers can also be seriously harmed by dangling their feet into the water while the boat is moving. “Man overboard” often results in injury when a large wave causes someone to fall out of the boat and gets entangled in the propeller.

A moving propeller can cause significant harm and possible death to those who unexpectedly get too close to the spinning blades. Boat operators must understand the dangers and follow boating safety guidelines.

Turning off the propeller whenever someone is in the water near the boat is always a good idea and can prevent death or serious injury. Don’t let careless boating ruin a fun day.
