The Honda Ridgeline is the compact pickup sibling of the popular Pilot SUV. Both vehicles are notably similar, with good reason. Little more than a truck bed and a few bells and whistles differentiate the two. Which of these siblings should drivers choose? In the end, it may come down to seating capacity.

How is the Honda Ridgeline different than the Pilot?

The Honda Ridgeline is an upscale compact pickup truck that’s surprisingly family-friendly. This truck comfortably seats five in its high-quality interior. USB charging ports make it easy to power devices on the go, and WiFi keeps kids connected and entertained. Clever storage solutions help keep kids’ gear organized.

This truck isn’t just comfortable for the whole family. It’s also safe. It earned an NHTSA top safety pick with favorable crash test ratings across the board. Surprisingly, the Ridgeline outperforms the Pilot in safety ratings, but by a narrow margin.

The Ridgeline is more than a family truck. It’s also built to work, as long as towing isn’t a requirement. At just 5,000 pounds, the Ridgeline isn’t winning any awards for its towing capacity. This is the only truck in its class that can accommodate 4×8 sheets of plywood, sheetrock, or other building materials.

How do the Honda Pilot and the Ridgeline compare?

In short, these two vehicles have more in common than they have differences. Both are built on the same platform and share the same 3.5-L V6 engine. The Ridgeline’s engine is paired with an eight-speed manual transmission, while the Pilot has a nine-speed automatic. The Ridgeline gets 2 gallons less per mile city than its SUV sibling.

Their shared towing capacity fares differently for each body style. 5,000 pounds is a decent maximum for an SUV, but it fails to impress for a compact truck. Neither of these Hondas are particularly well suited to off-roading, but the Ridgeline performs slightly better on the trail.

Both the Ridgeline and Pilot offer nearly identical cabin styles. This means passengers are equally comfortable in either as each provides the same smooth ride. The Pilot can accommodate eight passengers, three more than the Ridgeline.

Which one should you buy?

Buyers choosing between these two Hondas have a difficult job ahead of them. Both are relatively safe, but the Ridgeline scores slightly higher with the NHTSA. Each can seat the typical family, with the Pilot accommodating larger groups.

The Ridgeline could serve as a family vehicle and a work truck. Its towing capacity isn’t appropriate for heavy-duty jobs, but its bed can accommodate building materials better than other trucks its size. These two vehicles seem to have one significant difference, and that’s who they are marked to.

The Honda Pilot has a few more family-centered features, such as its seating capacity and infotainment system. The Ridgeline is just as comfortable for the five passengers it seats but has features geared toward the job site. When choosing between these two, buyers need to ask themselves if a truck bed and seating for three fewer people are worth a nearly $5,000 price hike for the Ridgeline.

The Forza Horizon franchise changed driving games with its open-world platform and less serious attitude. The joking narrator of Forza Horizon 4, along with its extensive world and car lineup that would make Jay Leno jealous, makes for an undeniably pleasant driving game. Forza Horizon 5 seems to have that same spirit of fun and friendliness.

Mercedes-AMG One | Forza Horizon 5

Even though many of us fancy ourselves racing drivers, the Forza Horizon games help to tamp down the pretension of the car world and pile good times and muddy hypercars on top.

Forza Horizon 5 moves to Mexico

As noted by The Drive, Playground Games, the studio responsible for Forza Horizon 5, released the trailer for the new driving game this past Sunday at the gaming convention, E3. The last installment of what might be the best car game ever, Forza Horizon 4, has been out since 2018. However, even though the game is getting pretty old at this point, players have hardly ceased to roam its vast environment.

For Horizon 4 players, the excitement of having a new landscape as their automotive playground is enough to make them do a backflip. However, that is not the coolest part of this new game. Sure, Mexico will be an extremely fun backdrop for the open-world driving game; the detail and graphics of the Xbox Series X are going to take the spotlight.

The detail is what brings Forza into the best car game territory

Along with the trailer for Forza Horizon 5, Playground Games also released a 5-minute video of real gameplay, and it was stunning. From the Mercedes AMG One Hero car to the Ford Bronco, we see that Playground Games has yet again gone all-in on detail.

Even more than the cars, the creators seem particularly proud of their work on the vibrant rendering of the landscape of Mexico. The driveable landscape covers desert, rainforest, Maya Highlands, and even an active volcano.

Every one of these striking landscapes is rendered at what feels like impossible detail. Well, if it weren’t for the Xbox series X processing power, the true 4K resolution wouldn’t be possible. This true 4K resolution is capable of running at a stunning 60 frames per second.

Forza Horizon 5’s Creative Director, Mike Brown, claims players can pick out individual needles from the desert’s many cactuses. That level of rendering ability has never been seen in a console game. Unlike many games, the majority of the landscape is filler that is a repeating pattern. Forza 5 will have unique aspects to every biome that players will ravage with their stable of cars.

The best car game ever can’t just look good

Playground Games insists that Forza Horizon 5 isn’t just pretty; it is also a bucket of fun to play. Forza Horizon 4 had a bunch of mini-games that helped to break up the monotony of just racing. However, Forza Horizon 5 added piles of new game modes and mini-games.

There is a new system at work called Forza Link that learns a player’s preferred gameplay and suggests more mini-games and racing styles that it thinks that player will enjoy.

As all technology gets more advanced, the gaming world becomes more exciting, dynamic, and open to new types of gamers. For example, Forza Horizon 5 is likely to be one of the best car games ever, not because the cars are cooler, the graphics are better, or driving mechanics are more sensitive, but because games are getting more inclusive and welcoming a wider scope of players.

It also has the ultra-helpful Transparent Mode, which uses multi-view cameras to allow drivers to almost see through their trailer. Trailer-length Indicator helps drivers change lanes while towing. More advanced safety features like blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors keep drivers informed but not distracted.

Diesel Trucks are some of the toughest vehicles on the road. Their power is unrivaled when it comes to pulling heavyweight. Not all are built equal, and some have features that stand out from the crowd. The newest diesel models have some exciting and ground-breaking features that mean towing is safer and easier than ever.

There are certainly a number of Hollywood celebrities with decadent car collections. Ellen Degeneres, for example, has an affinity for Porsche models. On the other end of the spectrum, Christian Bale drives a throwback Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

While it’s typically difficult to know all the details of each celebrity’s car collection, Christian Bale is frequently seen driving the same under-the-radar Tacoma model. There are countless paparazzi photos of Christian Bale with his 2003 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road PreRunner V6. In the Taco world, this thing is basically a collector’s item.

This Taco model is a prime example of how durable these compact pickup trucks are. At nearly 20 years old, Bale’s Toyota Tacoma is still getting he and wife Sibi Blažić, along with son Joseph and Daughter Emmeline, around in LA. The Dark Knight Trilogy star may have driven some gnarly vehicles during his time as the batman/Bruce Wayne duality. But in real life, it looks like he’s cool to keep things simple.

Bale is also known to drive a BMW 3 Series. Sure he was behind the wheel of some greats in Ford vs. Ferrari. But in real life, his taste isn’t all that extravagant when it comes to cars.

The Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road PreRunner V6

The Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road PreRunner V6 model from 2003 employed a 3.4 liter V6 engine that creates up to 190 hp. Not a huge departure from the Taco’s modern fuel economy, this truck gets 17 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. The 2021 V6 Tacoma gets 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

Equipped with four-wheel drive, the 2021 Tacoma with a V6 engine gets 18 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. These numbers drop down by 1 mpg each when the truck features a manual transmission. However, it’s hard to imagine someone like Christian Bale concerning themselves with the fuel economy of their personal vehicle.

Then again, it’s hard to imagine someone like Christian Bale driving an old pickup truck that’s nearly 20 years old. But the photos don’t lie. Bale drives a 2003 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road PreRunner V6.

Why does Christian Bale still drive a 2003 Tacoma?

There’s no way to know for sure why someone with pockets that are Hollywood Blockbuster deep drives a 20 year old truck. However, it’s pretty reasonable to assume that he probably likes how under the radar he is in the pickup truck. Plus, it’s likely that there is some kind of sentimental attachment to the truck.

According to Driving, Bale’s friend Matt Damon says he still drives the old Taco because he has dreams of putting a motorcycle in the bed. If he parts with the truck, Bale will be “giving up on his dreams.”

The Things writes that bale “doesn’t seem like he’s ready to upgrade anytime soon.” And this truck could still have many more miles and years of life ahead. These first-gen Tacoma models are historically reliable and noted for their longevity. Bale might be driving his motorcycle-moving dream truck for a long while yet.
