As of late, the cryptocurrency market has become a place where you can either go completely broke or become wealthier than you could’ve ever imagined. A 28-year-old Australian man won a substantial amount of money recently, mainly trading Bitcoin. To reward himself, he went out and bought a 2019 Lamborghini Huracan Performante. However, this supercar owner wasn’t exactly respectful of traffic laws.

According to CarBuzz, this resulted in the Queensland police department taking possession of the Italian supercar. To make matters worse for the owner, the department has chosen to auction the car off. As you might imagine, this story takes a couple of shady turns before getting there.

A Bitcoin millionaire bought this Lamborghini Huracan Performante after winning $620,000

As mentioned in the intro, this Lamborghini Huracan Performante starts with the Australian 28-year old making a sizable fortune off Bitcoin and purchasing the car. However, this crypto trader was generous enough to utilize a portion of his winnings to buy his girlfriend an Audi A5.

However, the problems surrounding this Lamborghini Huracan Performante appeared quickly and frequently. That’s because this supercar owner managed to rack up at least 20 serious traffic infractions. According to CarBuzz, these charges include dangerous driving, evading police, and driving under the influence of drugs.

When the police caught up with the car and arrested its owner, it had 662 miles on its odometer. Meaning that all of this illegal activity happened before the car’s first oil change. However, everything culminated one night as the Lamborghini was caught doing 125 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Why is the police auctioning off this supercar?

Once police officers caught up with the speeding Lamborghini Huracan Performante, the car didn’t stop. Instead, it took off as officers chased after it. According to CarBuzz, the owner’s girlfriend reported the car stolen six days after it had evaded police. Shortly after, officers found the car after the owner reportedly crashed it. From there, officers caught up with the owner that had fled the scene.

As you might imagine, the Queensland police department is charging the owner with some fairly serious crimes. In fact, a court sentenced this supercar’s owner to four years in prison a few months ago. Following the owner’s conviction, the police department confiscated the car.

How much will this Lamborghini Huracan Performante sell for?

After taking possession of this Lamborghini Huracan Performante, the Queensland police department has decided to auction it off. According to CarBuzz, all of the proceeds will go back to the local government. Aside from collecting a massive amount of funds, the main purpose of the public auction is to make an example of the owner and hopefully deter others from committing the same crimes.

All in all, CarBuzz estimates that a Performante in this condition should easily sell for over $300,000. Hopefully, this car will get a more responsible second owner.

Few compact cars are as good as the Mazda3. Not only is that true for the 2021 Mazda3, but it’s also true for the older model years. So here’s a look at why it may be a good idea to choose a used 2016 Mazda3 because it can take you almost anywhere you want to go.

What makes a good car great

There are many factors to consider when it comes to what makes a car great for everyday driving, Consumer Reports explains. For many folks, the most important thing is the price, and to that end, brand-new cars won’t cut it. That’s where used cars come in, which are almost always a good idea because they mean big savings on the purchase price.

Other than price, though, there are also factors that’ll affect a car’s practicality. For example, fuel economy is important because, one way or another, that car will rack up some miles, and it’s in the driver’s best interest not to spend that much money on gas. Another important factor to consider is comfort.

Many people spend a lot of time in their car, whether for commuting or road trips. So it’s a good idea to find a vehicle that will provide, at the very least, a smooth and comfortable ride. Unsurprisingly, the Mazda3 meets those criteria and more. In fact, it appears on Consumer Reports’ list “Best Used Cars and SUVs for City Driving.”

Why a used Mazda3 is excellent for driving

Off the bat, unlike its small-car competitors, the Mazda3 focuses on the driving experience. To be clear, because a used 2016 Mazda3 can cost between $13,000 and $17,000, it won’t be a Mustang. But it’ll be a reliable, practical choice for all sorts of driving.

That’s because the Mazda3’s 155-hp engine gives it 23 mpg in the city and an astounding 45 mpg on the highway, for 33 mpg combined. That’s great highway fuel economy, and though its city gas mileage isn’t spectacular, its small size means parking is a breeze. Plus, with its punchy engine and agile handling, the Mazda3 is fun to drive, Consumer Reports says.

The 2016 Mazda3 at a glance

As far as the other factors go, the Mazda3 performs well, too. Although it offers an average ride for its class, it does come in a hatchback configuration. The five-door hatchback is as fun to drive as the Mazda3 sedan but has less space for groceries or luggage.

That said, the Mazda3 is still a compact car, so it isn’t as spacious as an SUV. As a result, its rear seats can be a bit cramped for passengers, Consumer Reports says. But cramped or not, the Mazda3, like most Mazda models, is reliable. As such, owners who properly maintain this car probably won’t have to deal with it breaking down in the middle of a road trip.

It’s also relatively safe, with advanced features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and collision mitigation.

However, a 2016 Mazda3 isn’t as well-equipment with technology and infotainment features as later models. But that’s expected because many smart features became standard only recently, Consumer Reports points out. Regardless, the 2016 Mazda3 still has an infotainment system with a large touchscreen, but expect “frustrating controls,” CR says.

But overall, a used 2016 Mazda3 is a smart choice for city driving, thanks to its size. And its excellent handling and fuel economy make it a great pick highway driving, too.

Whether you’re servicing a sedan or a supercar, you want to trust that your dealership’s mechanic will take good care of your car. Aside from performing the correct service you asked for, it’s generally expected that a tech should treat your car kindly and with consideration. However, one Chevrolet Corvette C8 owner got the exact opposite treatment when a mechanic took their sports car for a joyride.

According to GM Authority, the entire incident was caught on the car’s onboard cameras and telemetry system. The owner first got suspicious when he received his car back with an unusual amount of extra miles on the clock.

Watch this tech go on a joyride in a Chevrolet Corvette C8

This Chevrolet Corvette C8 joyride starts as the car’s owner discovered an unusual amount of miles on the clock. This came after receiving the car after a week-long service. After growing suspicious, the owner checked the car’s onboard camera. This is where he found the video showing two mechanics taking the sports car on a joyride. Throughout the ride, the pair hit a top speed of 104 mph on the road with a 65-mph speed limit.

The video embedded above shows the complete joyride, which spans over 20 minutes. Aside from taking the Chevrolet Corvette C8 above 100 mph, the technicians have a lengthy conversation about how much they dislike GM’s modules and quality control. Even going as far as complaining about their bosses at the local dealership.

As you might imagine, the owner was fairly upset upon discovering that the technicians treated his prized possession this way. The ironic part is that the technicians completely forgot that the C8 features an onboard camera that records everything.

This sports car has 1 crucial feature the techs seemingly forgot about

As mentioned in the intro, the Chevrolet Corvette C8’s camera filmed this entire joyride. That’s because the sports car features an onboard Performance Data Recorder. In short, this data recorder has a camera embedded right behind the car’s rear-view mirror, which gets a clear view of the road ahead. Additionally, the Corvette features an onboard telemetry system that measures speed, revs, and even lateral G forces.

As a result, once this Chevrolet Corvette C8 owner became suspicious, he was able to find out exactly what happened. To make matters worse, his car was at the dealership for over a week without a loaner car for him to drive around.

Is it better to take your Chevrolet Corvette C8 to an independent mechanic?

Unfortunately, taking your Chevrolet Corvette C8 to an independent mechanic won’t necessarily protect you from something like this. That’s because it all falls on what kind of mechanic ends up working on your car. As a result, if you want extra peace of mind, you’ll want to work with a trusted mechanic with a good track record of respecting customer cars. If all else fails, at least you’ll have a video of exactly what happened to your car.

Car thieves occasionally work up the courage (or stupidity) to steal easily recognizable supercars. It is rare to see car thieves go for something so easily recognizable and owned by a famous person. Well, two thieves not only stole Thomas Davis’ highlighter-yellow McLaren 720S, but they also crashed the hell out of it. Stealing and wrecking an NFL player’s car seems like a terrible idea.

Thomas Davis wrecked McLaren 720S | Thomas Davis

You got to be pretty bold to steal an NFL player’s car

According to CarScoops, the theft happened early Tuesday morning. The local police believe that the two suspects caught on camera rifled through other cars parked in the driveway before getting into the garage with the McLaren.

Davis and his wife called the police later that morning when a neighbor called and told them they saw their McLaren wrecked on the side of the road. After leaving the house to find their stolen supercar, the couple noticed their other cars with doors ajar and gone through.

How did Thomas Davis McLaren 720S get wrecked?

Once the thieves got into the McLaren, they drove off but didn’t get too far. It is unclear exactly what happened here, but shortly after stealing the supercar, something happened, and the McLaren took a good pop to the rear left wheel. The crash left the McLaren immobilized, so the two geniuses left in the road.

The authorities believe that Thomas Davis’ McLaren 720 must have collided with the getaway car because no one reported a wreck or hit and run involving a fairly recognizable McLaren. If that is the case, then these car thieves managed to get their hands on a $300,000 car and wreck it into their own car before they could so much as plan what to do with the money.

The former Carolina Panther posted to Instagram photos of his wrecked supercar. The car it hit must have been something taller with big tires like a truck or SUV, by the looks of it. The spot that has the most damage appears to be covered in tire marks across the neon green/yellow wrap.

The hit also knocked one of the four custom Forgiato wheels clean off. The driver’s side door and rear quarter panel got smacked pretty well. The worst of the damage is the detached wheel and whatever else is going on with the suspension and brakes in that area. McLaren’s, like most supercars, aren’t the simplest of machines. There is no doubt there is probably close to six figures of damage here.

Now, the former NFL linebacker is looking for the thieves

What’s worse than stealing a car and wrecking it? Stealing a former NFL linebacker’s McLaren and wrecking it, and now you got a pro linebacker looking for you. Davis posted photos of the thieves on Instagram, letting everyone know that he is offering a cash reward to anyone with information on the two thieves.

“If any of you recognize either one of these idiots that decided it was a good idea to come into my home and go through all of my cars and even steal and wreck my McLaren,” he wrote on Instagram. “I’m offering a cash reward for anyone that can help identify who these guys are!”
