Over the years, many Chevy Corvette aftermarket options have claimed to improve the iconic sports car’s performance or appearance. And Chevrolet’s introduction of the eighth-generation C8 for the 2020 model year brought all-new body kits. Though the mid-engine Corvette C8 already resembles a supercar, some of these options could make your Vette even better, or they could be among the worst modifications you can make.

Creating a widebody Chevy Corvette C8

The Sigala Designs Widebody RR Kit is a 32-piece kit designed to add GT racing style to the Chevy Corvette. CarBuzz says it might “not be the most tasteful way to modify the mid-engined sports car.” We agree.

This is also an expensive modification, costing $14,995 for the fiberglass kit and $24,995 for the carbon-fiber kit. The parts are also available separately.

Adding OEM 5VM-style ground effects to your Corvette C8

The Atomic 6 Carbon 5VM-Style Ground Effects Package creates a ground-hugging look by adding carbon fiber side skirts and a front splitter, CarBuzz reports. Though the idea is to increase downforce, the company doesn’t say how the kit affects the car’s aerodynamics.

This pricey package comes in at $5,999. You’ll have to pay extra for pinstriping and local installation in Florida.

Adding scissor doors to your C8

Adding Eikon Motorsports Scissor Doors changes the hinge so that the doors rotate up rather than swing open. CarBuzz jokes this mod will give your Corvette “the doors of a billionaire.” Based in Arizona, Eikon Motorsports sells the kit for $2,899. Get it with installation for $4,300.

It’s possible to undo this modification because it uses the original factory bolt pattern to install the doors. The doors have their own lifetime warranty, but installing scissor doors on your Chevy Corvette C8 is a questionable mod at best. Though it looks cool, a change this drastic could void your Vette’s warranty if the dealer isn’t mod-friendly.

Do all modifications void your car’s warranty?

It’s great to have your vehicle’s warranty cover any necessary repairs whenever possible. But if you don’t follow the requirements, your dealer could void the warranty. Modifications or aftermarket parts don’t necessarily invalidate the warranty, though it’s a “gray area,” Edmunds reports.

Some dealerships might say they’ll void the whole warranty anytime the owner adds an aftermarket part. But that isn’t correct. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act says that to void a warranty, the dealership must prove the aftermarket part caused the problem that needs to be repaired.

If it’s hard to tell the cause of the problem, the dealership will generally work to diagnose the cause of the issue and charge the owner’s cost. If the aftermarket part or modification caused the problem, the warranty may be voided for that part. The owner would then need to pay for the repairs. If the aftermarket part or modification didn’t cause the trouble, the warranty stays, and the dealer should refund the cost of the diagnosis.

Having aftermarket parts and modifications can also make dealerships suspicious about misuses like racing or hard-driving, allowing them to void a warranty. Before modifying your Corvette, take some time to read the details of your car’s warranty. It’s also worth looking for a more mod-friendly dealer before you buy.

Overall, modifications are fun ways to customize your Chevy Corvette C8, but do your research before altering your car. Some aftermarket mods, including scissor doors, could void your car’s warranty.

We have a plot twist for y’all today! We thought the new Ford Bronco Warthog was on the way to provide an even beefier off-roading model. But now it looks like the Warthog name will be going to a different vehicle once the 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor arrives instead.

The 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor is coming

The Electric Ford Bronco teaser | Ford

According to FORD AUTHORITY, sources suggest that the Ford Bronco Warthog is out, and the Ford Bronco Raptor is in. Last fall, they reported about a hardcore Ford Bronco model that seemed to be on the way.

After spotting the first prototype, Ford trademarked the Warthog name. This suggested that the Bronco Warthog was on the way, then a prototype was spotted with Warthog written inside of the wheel well to confirm this idea.

Now, sources familiar with Ford’s upcoming product plans suggest that the Warthog moniker was used to misdirect fans. Ford could be leaning toward creating the 2021 Ford Bronco Raptor instead.

This makes sense as Ford desires to utilize well-known, established names for vehicles. The Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford F-150 Lightning serve as two examples of brand new vehicles with fully loaded history and name recognition.

What to expect with the Bronco Raptor

All we can do is speculate for now. However, the 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor is expected to be powered by the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 365 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. This engine is currently found in the Ford Explorer ST and Lincoln Aviator. It’s expected to produce 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque in the Raptor.

It could also be joined by a new hybrid variant. It could be powered by the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 and electric motor combination that’s currently found in the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring. It pumps out 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. Both powertrain options will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Plus, the Bronco Raptor could receive a few mechanical upgrades that are found with existing Raptor models. It could gain the Fox Live Valve shock technology, 17-inch wheels, and LT315/70R17 BFGoodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A tires.

It may have an upgraded look that includes a wider stance, higher ground clearance, unique front, rear fascias, bumper treatments, and ‘Ford’ lettering across the front grille. Also, it’s safe to expect tons of Raptor badging. For example, little Broncos are found all over the Ford Bronco Sport.

But what about the Warthog name?

Let’s take a break from the 2021 Ford Bronco Raptor for a moment. Is another off-roading vehicle on the horizon? Could we see the Ford Maverick Warthog instead? We already have the Ford Explorer Timberline, so this is pretty puzzling.

The history of the Warthog name comes from a few different things, including a military plane known as the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II. It provided close air support for friendly ground troops for the United States Air Force.

The U.K. Armed Forces once used a unique amphibious vehicle, the All-Terrain Tracking Carrier, and it was known as both the Warthog and Bronco! That puts the two monikers together. Also, in the popular video game series Halo, the Warthog is an ATV-like vehicle that can go anywhere. It’s a pretty beastly name.

Is it possible that the Warthog moniker will go to the Electric Ford Bronco or Electric Ford Explorer? The Ford Warthog name has to land somewhere. We’re going to get to the bottom of this. Maybe Autoblog can help us with the clues.

The automotive industry is constantly changing and adapting, and with the production abilities made capable by assembly lines and new tech, we see new cars year after year. So, it’s is to forget that not that long ago in history, vehicles like the Ford Model T, which would be considered borderline ancient by modern-day standards, were still in production. But, 94 years ago today, the last Ford Model T rolled off of the production line, marking the end of an era.

Production of the Ford Model T

The Ford Model T was one of the company’s most popular selling cars of the time and was designed by Henry Ford himself. It was in production for several years, starting in 1908 and making its way through to 1927 before being pulled from the production line. It was noted for its affordable price and even received an award for being the Car of the Century.

The final production day for the Model T

The final production model of the Model T was no small end to the era. According to History.com, the last vehicle’s final production was a moment in time that was marked by Henry Ford himself, alongside his son Edsel. Together, they drove the 15 millionth Model T made from the factory, marking the occasion in a car that would be later sought after as a collector’s item.

Production wasn’t technically over until the next day when the factory was set to close, and while that may have been a momentous occasion for the automotive industry, it was less than fortunate for the some 60,000 workers who were laid off.

A dramatic drop in popularity before an inevitable demise

It was never Mr. Ford’s intention to lay off workers, but with a dramatic drop in demand for the Model T, it was no longer reasonable to continue production. Instead, the factory closed to make way for the next generation Model A, which would require retooling of equipment and slight changes for the factory. Regardless of the sudden drop-off in interest due to the increasing popularity of other affordable vehicles, the Ford Model T quite literally paved the way for less local travel, encouraging new roadways as more families could afford vehicles for the first time.

While it hasn’t quite hit the 100-year mark since the Ford Model T was pulled from production, it sure feels as though it has been as long. As one of the most influential cars in the automotive world in the US, the Model T will always be a special piece of history.

From the Trident 660 to the Rocket 3, Triumph has a whole host of three-cylinder motorcycles. One bike, in particular, the Speed Triple, has become an icon for the naked bike segment. However, in recent years it’s arguably been overshadowed by some of its rivals. This is why, for 2021, it’s been redesigned and re-sharpened as the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS.

Moto2 lessons made the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS even faster

Since 2019, Triumph has been the exclusive engine supplier for Moto2, the bike racing series immediately below MotoGP. The company supplies 765cc inline-three engines based on the one found in the Street Triple 765. And the lessons learned in Moto2 were instrumental during the development of the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS’s powerplant, Motorcyclist reports.

Instead of a 765cc engine, the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS has a new 1160cc inline-three engine linked to a six-speed transmission. More displacement means more power and torque; so, instead of 148 hp and 68 lb-ft, the new engine makes 177 hp and 92 lb-ft. That makes the Speed Triple 1200 RS the most powerful Speed Triple yet. Plus, the 1160cc engine is 15 pounds lighter than the outgoing 765cc one, RevZilla reports.

The new engine, though, is just the beginning. For 2021, the Triumph Speed Triple RS has a new slipper-assist clutch and standard quickshifter, Roadshow reports. The aluminum chassis has also been revised, and the exhaust moved out from under the seat. And the 2021 model has wider handlebars, a narrower gas tank, and a longer seat. Plus, at 437 pounds, the 2021 Speed Triple 1200 RS is the lightest Speed Triple yet, RevZilla notes.

Some of the outgoing model’s features carry over to the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple RS, Cycle World reports. Like the 2020 bike, the 2021 model has fully adjustable Ohlins suspension, multiple riding modes, keyless ignition, cornering ABS, and traction control. The latter two are adjustable, as are the brake and clutch levers. But the new bike has an updated 5” TFT dash, full LED lighting, a lighter lithium-ion battery, Brembo Stylema brakes, wheelie control, and cruise control.

“This is the best Speed Triple to date,” Motorcyclist says

Although the outgoing Speed Triple 1050 RS “still is a great bike,” Motorcyclist explains, its rivals had moved on in terms of technology and performance. The 2021 model neatly rectifies that.

RevZilla calls the 2021 Speed Triple 1200 RS “the Speed Triple, reinvented.” The benefit of a triple is that it’s narrower than an inline-four while still delivering similar levels of horsepower. And indeed, the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple RS’s narrow proportions make it nimbler than most liter-bikes, RevZilla reports. Plus, it makes the naked bike feel lighter, Motorcyclist points out.

The new engine isn’t just more powerful and lighter, it also revs higher and faster. As a result, the 2021 Speed Triple 1200 RS has superbike-like acceleration, MCN reports. And the new transmission, clutch, and quickshifter make changing gears “effortless,” Motorcyclist says.

One downside of the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS is that it rides more harshly on the road than the outgoing bike. Adjusting the suspension settings, which is simple on Ohlins units, mitigates this somewhat. But the upshot is a motorcycle that handles better the harder you push, Motorcyclist reports. And the new Brembos deserve every cliché about powerful brakes, Bennetts notes, including “like hitting a brick wall” and “stops on a dime.”

How does it compare to its naked bike competition?

Besides the new tech, the other big change for the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS is the lineup. Although Triumph offered lower trims of the naked bike before, for 2021 it’s the RS or nothing. The first bikes should be hitting dealers now, with prices starting at $18,300.

While that price may seem expensive, it’s $1695 cheaper than the Ducati Streetfighter V4. True, the Streetfighter V4 has 31 more hp, a slightly larger TFT dash, launch control, slide control, and engine-braking control. But it’s also slightly heavier than the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS. And while the base Streetfighter V4 has adjustable Showa suspension, only the $24,395 V4 S has Ohlins units.

The 2021 Speed Triple 1200 RS also slightly undercuts the $18,699 KTM 1290 Super Duke R. Its 1301cc V-twin makes as much power as the Triumph’s triple, but the KTM is slightly heavier. The 1290 Super Duke R has similar electronics and features to the Speed Triple RS, but it also comes standard with heated grips and adjustable handlebars. However, the KTM naked bike’s more-adjustable Performance and Track modes, which include launch control, are optional, Motorcyclist reports.

As with any motorcycle, ride before you buy. But in terms of features and, well, speed, the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS no longer trails the competition.
