The 2021 Ford Bronco has been one of the most anticipated cars in recent history. Although its launch has been littered with pandemics, production delays, and supply chain issues, customers are still frantically searching for their chance at actually getting one in the driveway. All that being said, the relaunched Bronco didn’t come in any exciting colors. Thankfully, the 2022 Ford Bronco is getting a new color, Eruption Green Metallic, and it is glorious.

As MotorTrend points out, true car nuts have always had a weird obsession with green cars. From British Racing Green to Lizard Green, green has always gotten out goats. Wisely, Ford has taken its standard reds, oranges, and various blue/silvers and added a warm splash of cool green. 

Somehow, green shades are equally perfect for SUVs and sports cars. In SUVs, the dark green hue conjures images of matte Willys Jeeps bouncing through Europe in the mid-’40s. These forestry shades equate to tough and wild motoring for many of us. Ford has branded the Bronco this way from day one, and now it has a paint color to match.

Maybe Broncos in green isn’t quite as iconic as a red Ferrari or a silver Aston Martin, but shades of green have been a part of Bronco history since day one. 

Eruption Green Metallic is a throwback of sorts to the first-generation Bronco color Mallard Green. If we fast forward a few decades, Ford originally had green in the line for the 2021 Bronco and inexplicably pulled it. Now it seems Ford is trying to right that wrong with this brilliant shade. 

Green isn’t the only new Bronco shade 

Although the addition of Eruption Green makes all the delays all the more appealing for those who have waited to pull the trigger, there is also another new color coming to the 2022 Ford Bronco. Ford will also allow customers to dress the next Broncos in Hot Pepper Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat is a new option.

How many colors does the 2022 Ford Bronco come in?

Ford isn’t just adding new colors to the Bronco line; it’s also taking a few shades away. Antimatter Blue, Lightning Blue Metallic, and Rapid Red Metallic will not be available after the 2021 order books close. Cyber Orange will now be offered on lower-trim Broncos (previously reserved for Black Diamond-trimmed cars and above). 

After the additions and subtractions, the 2022 Ford Bronco colors total 10. The new green and new red will be available on every Bronco in the range, a treat for the base and Big Bend Bronco customers who don’t have access to the entire palette for 2021 models. The new colors join Area 51, Cactus Gray, Carbonized Gray, Cyber Orange, Iconic Silver, Oxford White, Race Red, Shadow Black, and Velocity Blue.

This should hit all prospective Bronco buyers as good news, whether you like the new colors or not. This, along with moving the bull bar to not cover the Bronco logo shows that Ford is genuinely trying to give its customers what they want with this one. The Bronco will likely continue to morph and shift over time to make a cooler off-roader.

Toyota produces some of the most reliable vehicles on the market. The Toyota Camry TRD is Toyota’s way of bringing style and performance to the Camry nameplate. The mid-size sedan is most known for its cozy interior and great fuel economy. The TRD takes things up a notch and turns the Camry into an affordable sport sedan that is fun to drive. Here are some fun facts that are often overlooked regarding the underrated Toyota Camry TRD.

The 2021 Toyota Camry TRD makes 301 horsepower with its 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine. The Camry TRD is faster than competitors like the Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata. It is swift for a mid-size car.

The Toyota Camry TRD exemplifies the edge that Toyota Racing Development (TRD) models have over standard models. NASCAR has even used the 2021 Camry TRD. The 2021 Toyota Camry TRD is underrated because Toyota models aren’t normally considered when consumers think of speedy cars.

Toyota sedan base engines are rarely exciting. The TRD trim has successfully reinvigorated the Camry and made it a force of nature by boosting its horsepower by a whopping 93 horses. Another reason that the Toyota Camry TRD is underrated because the uninformed consumer would never expect so much power from a Camry.

How much does the Camry TRD cost?

The 2021 Toyota Camry TRD starts at $32,260. The Camry TRD costs $7,215 more than the base model. This extra $7,215 gets owners an upgrade from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to the TRD’s 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine. The TRD package also includes TRD track-tuned front and rear coil springs, stabilizer bars and shock absorbers. It also features a TRD Gloss Black pedestal rear spoiler.

The Camry TRD package features dual exhaust with polished stainless steel tips. The sport front seats include red stitching and fabric inserts. A JBL audio system is optional with nine speakers for $1,585. The Camry TRD also features a two-inch larger touchscreen at nine inches.

The 2021 Toyota Camry TRD comes in three different extreiror colors. All interiors are black with red fabric. In comparison, the 2021 Honda Accord’s highest level trim, the Touring trim’s supercharged engine only makes 252 horsepower. The Camry TRD is faster and frankly more sporty-looking than the Accord. The real kicker is that the Camry is more affordable by at least $4000+ (more than enough to throw that JBL audio system into your new Camry TRD).

The Toyota Camry was never known for having the most impressive powertain in its vehicle class. In fact, Toyota Camry owners have often had to trade speed for affordability and comfort. The 2021 Toyota Camry TRD does it all.

According to Roadshow by CNET, it combines the Camry’s existing comfort, affordability and smooth ride with almost 100 extra horses and the superior styling of the Toyota Racing Development division. The beauty of the 2021 Toyota Camry TRD is no one expected such a speedy, fun Camry. Underrated and definitely not overpriced, Toyota’s Camry TRD model is worth checking out for driving enthusiasts looking for a little oomph in their mide-size sedan.

The Volkswagen Jetta has earned a cult following that is comparable to the iconic Beetle. The simple, economical sedan has struck a chord with enthusiasts and consumers looking for a commuter car that is nicer than something they may find from Honda or Ford. The Jetta has proven to be a winning formula. Volkswagen needs to take care not to mess up what makes the Jetta special, but at the same time, they need to keep things fresh. That seems to be what the brand has in mind as it was announced that a refresh is coming for the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta.

“As the best-selling VW for more than 30 years, Jetta has proven to be a compelling value,” said Hein Schafer, Senior Vice President for Product Marketing and Strategy. “This refresh takes the strengths of the current generation—a spacious interior, excellent fuel economy, and low maintenance costs—and builds on them with a fresh design, better technology, and more access to the driver assistance features buyers are looking for. With the introduction of a new Sport trim, it is easier than ever for customers to get their hands on a vehicle with a sporty appearance at a value oriented price point.”

2022 Volkswagen Jetta gets a new engine

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta will get the 1.5 liter turbocharged “EA211” engine found in the Volkswagen Taos SUV. With 158 horsepower and 184 ft-lbs of torque, the engine features Volkswagen’s modified version of the “Miller cycle,” where the intake valves are closed early in the induction stage of the engine. This early closing technique is meant to improve fuel economy. Volkswagen claims that a side-effect of their Miller cycle is more low-speed torque. Customers will have a choice of an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual.

The Jetta GLI will come with the more powerful 2.0 liter EA888 engine, which produces 228 horsepower and 258 ft-lbs of torque. The Jetta GLI will come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but a dual-clutch automatic transmission is an option. These are not shocking engine changes, but they appear to be subtle upgrades that Volkswagen predicts new and old customers will appreciate.

The Jetta and GLI get exterior updates in the form of new front and rear bumpers, new colors, and new wheels. The reworked front bumper has a new grille with chrome pieces on either side of the VW logo. The Jetta GLI has a red strip between the chrome pieces to hint at the high-performance nature, and the lower area of the GLI’s fascia has the obligatory honeycomb pattern. 

Chrome window trim is standard on the new base car. However, the sport trim of the Jetta and GLI comes with black window trim. The Jetta GLI will have a honeycomb pattern rear diffuser meant to add to the sporty vibe. The GLI also comes with a re-tuned exhaust for a more aggressive sound.

A new Jetta is a big enough event for Volkswagen to have live-streamed the reveal. The entire event is only about 8 minutes long, and it is a great way to learn more about some of the details that we could not get to here. 

While we find the new 2022 Volkswagen Jetta interesting, we cannot help but wonder how long it will be before VW transitions to a 100% electric Jetta. Considering Volkswagen’s history with emissions vehicles, we would think they want to get to an all-electric future sooner rather than later.

Did you know that tire manufacturers rate every tire type with a load index? Did you know they stamp the load index on the side of each tire? The load index (sometimes called the weight index) represents the maximum amount of weight each tire is rated to carry, and it is a critical aspect of your tires: If you are replacing your tires and buy ones with a lower load index, you risk a blowout. Knowing your tire load index is important for proper vehicle maintenance. Learn how to find your tire load index and decode it with our handy tire load index chart explained below.

What Is A Tire Load Index?

If you know how to read the letters and numbers on tires, you already know that the first number in your tire size is your tire width in millimeters. You already know the second number (after the first slash) is the aspect ratio between your tire’s width and sidewall height. And you know the third number (usually after the letter R) is your rim diameter in inches.

You may not have known that the number after the rim diameter (and the second slash) is not a measurement at all: it is a code. This two-digit or three-digit code represents your tire’s load index. The higher this number, the higher the weight each tire is rated to carry.

For example:

  • A tire with a size of “275/55R20/113T” has a load index of 113
  • A tire with a size of “225/65R17/102H” has a load index of 102
  •  A tire with a size of “205/65R15/94V” has a load index of 94

Most passenger cars and light trucks come from the factory on tires with load indexes between 70 and 126. These tires are rated to carry anywhere from 739 pounds to 3,748 pounds–each. These numbers do not represent weight or tons, they are a code and require a tire load index chart to decode.

Remember, the total load index of your set of tires is not necessarily the same as your vehicle’s maximum load. There are many aspects of your car that can fail before your tires. The load index on your tire is simply the max tire weight that one tire is rated for.

It is not a great idea to replace your tires with aftermarket tires that have a lower load index. If the total weight of your vehicle and load exceeds the max tire weight for your set of tires, you risk a blowout. Likewise, if you put more weight on the front or rear tires and exceed their individual weight ratings, you also risk a blowout. And note that if you exceed your tires’ speed rating, you may suffer a blowout without even exceeding your max tire weight.

You can always upgrade your tires to aftermarket tires with a higher load index. Your new tires will be suited to carry more weight. But certain tires with a high load index are louder than stock tires or make for a stiffer ride than stock tires. Be sure to do your research before upgrading your load index.

Do you often carry heavy loads or trailer heavy loads with your vehicle? Do you worry you are approaching your tire load index? You can add together the weight each of your tires is rated for to calculate your overall max tire weight. Subtract your vehicle weight and you will have some idea how much load your tires can carry. Remember, unless the load is balanced between all your tires equally, this weight may be much lower.

Make certain to care for your tires: First, correctly rotate your tires, regularly. Second, store your seasonal tires properly. Don’t push the limit on used tires with worn rubber. And double-check that your tires are not involved in the Continental tire recall, or the Bridgestone and Firestone tire recalls.
