Many car enthusiasts often dream about being able to drive their favorite sports car every day. However, the allure of it diminishes when they realize that a sports car might not fit their everyday life. After all, if kids need to be picked up and groceries need to be purchased, then a two-door coupe definitely wouldn’t be up to the task, right?

Not exactly. With a little outside-of-the-box thinking, there’s a possibility for any sportscar enthusiast to have their cake and eat it too. Here are some prime examples of practical sports cars in the market that can be driven daily in relative comfort.

2021 Toyota Supra

Much to the dismay of many car enthusiasts, the all-new Toyota Supra is basically a BMW in Toyota’s clothing, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun to drive. We recently had a chance to test out the 2021 Supra 2.0 turbo and came away impressed with its agile handling characteristics and a potent 255-hp engine.

Additionally, the visibility in the Supra is better than you would expect and its ride is firm but surprisingly comfortable. The only downside is that it only has two seats, but it does have a decent-sized trunk that can fit your luggage and possibly even a set of golf clubs.

2021 BMW M2 Competition

With a powerful twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine that produces over 400 hp, the BMW M2 Competition has all of the power that you would need for the daily drive. It’s based on the automaker’s entry-level 2 Series coupe, so it’s small enough to fit in tight spaces when needed.

To top off all of that performance, the M2 Competition also has an adequate amount of seating for up to four adults as well as a large trunk area. Life is too short to drive a boring sedan, buy an M2 Competition instead so you smile every time you drive it.

2021 Mazda MX-5

It’s hard to have a list like this and not include the Mazda MX-5 Miata. After all, there’s a reason that the automaker has sold over a million of them since the early 90s and the nameplate is still running strong. And while you might not think that it’s practical, take into consideration that it has a trunk that’s large enough to fit a carry-on bag and one extra seat for a lucky passenger.

If that doesn’t win you over, then you’ll fall in love with the car’s rear-drive configuration and responsive 181-hp, naturally aspirated engine. Let’s not forget about the slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission, although an automatic transmission is available as well.

2021 Toyota 86

The Toyota 86 and the Subaru BR-Z are two sports cars that are easy to live with every day. They both have four seats and a good amount of usable trunk space. But what’s even better is that they’re both very easy to drive as well.

Both cars are basically identical, so they come with a high-revving, 2.0-liter engine under the hood that pushes out 204 hp and 156 lb-ft of torque. That power is transmitted through the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, which makes power sliding around corners a breeze.

Practical sports cars don’t always have to come from Japanese manufacturers. The Ford Mustang is one of the longest-running American nameplates and it’s definitely not going away anytime soon. Under the hood of the current Mustang, you can find a potently efficient turbocharged 2.3-liter, four-cylinder engine or a 460-hp, 5.0-liter V8.

Whichever one you choose, you’ll enjoy seating for up to four passengers and a large trunk to hold everyone’s stuff. According to Hot Cars, there are plenty of people that drive a Ford Mustang daily without any issues, so it could probably fit your lifestyle as well.

2021 Nissan GT-R

While the Nissan GT-R isn’t the cheapest exotic car in the market, it’s still one of the most powerful. With over 560 hp and a 0-60 mph time under four seconds, you’ll be able to get the kids to school in no time.

The kids probably won’t complain either, considering the GT-R has enough room for up to four passengers and a usable trunk. That also makes it one of the most practical supercars that money can buy, even if does cost over $100,000.

The Porsche Cayman is one of the most refined and practical sportscars on the market. You can choose between a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine or a 3.8-liter flat-six engine that produces up to 420 hp.

Either way, you’ll have a lot of fun driving it every day despite the fact that it only has two seats. Also, if you would rather drive with the top down, then you can choose the nearly identical 718 Boxster.

It’s easy to focus on a vehicle’s purchase price, but maintenance and repair costs can create unexpected expenses down the road. When you’re shopping for pickup trucks, considering maintenance costs can save a significant amount of money.

According to Consumer Reports, the 2011 Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier are two pickup trucks under $10,000 with the least expensive maintenance costs. Here’s what you should know about these vehicles.

To determine the cars and trucks with the lowest long-term maintenance costs, Consumer Reports looked at 2011 models to determine how much it cost owners to maintain them 10 years later. CR’s research found that the Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier cost only $200 each in yearly maintenance at the 10-year mark.

Consumer Reports notes it’s important to consider the average maintenance cost both five and 10 years after purchase. That’s because certain factors can cause a vehicle’s maintenance costs to be lower in the first five years but spike several years later.

For example, new-car warranties can significantly reduce maintenance costs in the first few years after purchase. Some automakers, such as BMW, also offer free maintenance during the first several years. Once this type of coverage ends, expenses often rise significantly.

What Consumer Reports has to say about the 2011 Ford Ranger

Ford has redesigned the Ranger since the 2011 model year, but Consumer Reports looked specifically at 2011 models when determining maintenance costs. This Ford Ranger model year received mixed ratings. Its biggest strength is its predicted reliability, with a 4/5 rating. However, its predicted owner satisfaction rating is an abysmal 1/5.

The 2011 Ranger has a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 143 hp, but a 4.0-liter V6 making 207 hp is also available. Unfortunately, CR’s testers found the V6 to be lacking. It gets only 16 mpg combined, which was unimpressive even in 2011. Consumer Reports also describes this engine as “low on power, thirsty, and coarse.”

The 2011 Ranger can tow up to 5,600 pounds. While towing a 5,000-pound trailer, CR’s test drivers reached 60 mph in a decent 25.5 seconds.

Inside, hard plastics fill the cabin. Testers described the seats as firm and noted the decent legroom and headroom but minimal space for shoulders and elbows. The controls are simple to use, and the bed can support loads up to 7.5 feet long with the tailgate down.

How does the 2011 Nissan Frontier compare?

Like the Ford Ranger, the 2011 Nissan Frontier received mixed ratings from Consumer Reports. It, too, earned an excellent 4/5 predicted reliability rating and an unimpressive 1/5 predicted owner satisfaction rating.

Test drivers praised the performance of this truck’s 4.0-liter V6, which produces 261 hp and gets 15 mpg combined. Though it offers strong performance, it becomes noisy at higher speeds.

Also, this truck performed significantly better than the 2011 Ford Ranger during the tow test. When pulling a 5,000-pound trailer, the Frontier reached 60 mph in just 17.5 seconds. Additionally, it boasts good traction and handles corners well, something with which the Ranger struggles. 

Test drivers also found the cabin to be more comfortable in the Frontier. It features textured plastics, supportive seats, and a high driving position.

Regardless of these two pickup trucks’ mixed Consumer Reports reviews, there’s no denying their low price points and impressively low maintenance costs even 10 years after purchase. Taking factors like these into consideration helps save money and reduces the risk of encountering unexpected costs down the road.

The Prius has ample room for up to passengers and a lot of cargo volume thanks to its hatchback shape. On top of that, if you live in a snow state, you’ll like that the 2021 Prius is available with all-wheel drive.

 You can buy a 2021 model in the mid to high $20,000 range, but if you want to save money then you can find used examples for anywhere from $8,000 to $20,000 depending on the car’s age and condition.

If you would rather have something a little more unique than a Toyota Prius, then the 2021 Hyundai Ioniq could work for you. Your rideshare passengers will get a kick out of a large amount of legroom in addition to the large cargo area. You won’t need to worry too much about stopping at the gas station either, as the EPA estimates that the Ioniq Hybrid can achieve up to 54 mpg in the city and 56 mpg on the highway.

Would you believe that the Honda Fit has more rear-seat legroom than a Civic? Sure, it’s only by about two inches, but that could mean a world of difference to any rideshare passenger. Speaking of the Fit’s rear seat, it’s also a “Magic Seat,” which means that it can flip and fold to create an adaptable storage space for taller cargo items.

What’s even better is that the Honda Fit can achieve an EPA-estimated 33 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway when equipped with an automatic transmission. That’s not exactly hybrid-like fuel economy, but it will keep you away from the gas stations so that you can conduct more rides.

When it comes to driving, you’ll enjoy the Camry’s quiet ride and reserved driving dynamics in addition to its EPA-estimated fuel economy figures of 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. If you would rather have hybrid economy figures in the 50-mpg range, then there’s a Camry Hybrid as well.

2021 Honda Odyssey

Driving a Honda Odyssey for your rideshare duties can possibly lead to more money earned. With seating for up to eight passengers and all of their stuff, the Odyssey could be considered one of the ultimate rideshare platforms.

The top-trim Touring option will give you all of the safety and tech-savvy features you would need including a Honda Vac to clean up after everyone after the day is done. The only downside is that the Odyssey can cost over $30,000, but used ones are plentiful at a lower price point.

Has anyone informed the 2021 Mustang Mach-E that it has a new rival? Because the 2022 Kia EV6 just made its debut. Now that we know some of the specifics for the new Kia EV6, we see that it’s adding to the competition among electric vehicles. 

The 2022 Kia EV6 is ready to roll

According to Roadshow, the 2022 Kia EV6 was finally revealed, and the first models known as the First Edition will be available early next year. Preorders for the Kia EV6 First Edition will open on June 3, with only 1,500 models available. 

Also, you may have to wait until the end of the year for the Kia EV6 GT. The EV6 rides on Hyundai-Kia’s E-GMP platform. A total of 23 new battery-electric models from the Hyundai Motor Group will utilize this platform over the next five years. 

How does the Kia EV6 compare to the Mustang Mach-E?

The 2021 Kia EV6 is expected to have an estimated 300-mile range with up to 576 hp. The EV6 will most likely be offered with a 77.4 kWh battery and a smaller 58 kWh battery. The EPA-estimated range for each model hasn’t been released. 

There will be two rear-wheel-drive versions. The Kia EV6 with the 58 kWh battery will provide up to 167 hp, and the option with the 77.4 kWh battery will pump out 218 hp. These variants will have a single electric motor. 

The 58 kWh battery isn’t offered with the all-wheel-drive models. Also, the EV6 GT will have dual electric motors to provide 576 hp. This model is expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. 

According to Car and Driver, the 2021 Mustang Mach-E is available with two battery options with an EPA-estimated range of 211 to 305 miles. There is the 75.7 kWh battery and the 98.8 kWh battery pack with either a single or electric motor or two. They generate between 266 to 346 hp. 

Models are equipped with two electric motors to provide all-wheel-drive. Also, the Mustang Mach-E GT and GT performance models are expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.5 seconds. 

What are the KV6 and Mustang Mach-E features like?

Charging the 2022 Kia EV6 should be fast and straightforward. It utilizes Kia’s multi-charging system for 400 and 800-Volt DC fast charging. If you use a 350-kilowatt fast charger, about 70 miles of range can be added in as little as five minutes.

Kia suggests that you can gain 80 percent of power in under 18 minutes. With the at-home onboard 11 kW charger for Level 2 charging, you can fully charge your KV6 in about seven hours. 

Also, the Kia EV6 offers vehicle-to-vehicle charging, so you can help other electric vehicle owners in need. The Integrated Charging Control unit acts as a generator to charge other EV’s like it’s plugged into a 110-volt outlet, and it can power other devices for up to 36 hours. 

With the Ford mobile charger, you can add about 30 miles of range to the Mach-E with a 120-volt outlet. About 80-percent of the battery life will be returned overnight with a 240-volt outlet. If you order a Ford charging station, you can replenish about 32 miles of range per hour and fully recharge the battery overnight. 

The Ford Mustang Mach-E provides 29 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats with up to 60 cubic feet total. The EV6 offers 27.7 cubic feet of cargo space with up to 53.5 cubic feet total. So, the Mach-E provides a little more room. 

With the Mach-E, you get a 15.5-inch touchscreen, and the KV6 comes with a dual 12-inch display. Both vehicles come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with a Wi-fi hotspot. Deciding between the two may come down to price, availability, and test drives.
