Which Chevrolet Silverado 1500 engine is the most reliable? In this video, Publisher Tim Esterdahl compares the problems associated with the 2.7-liter TurboMax, 5.3-liter V8, 6.2-liter V8 and 3.0-liter Duramax diesel.

We look at recalls, technical service bulletins, owner complaints and known repair concerns affecting fourth-generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trucks. That includes lifter failures, crankshaft and connecting rod defects, thrust-bearing problems, the Duramax oil pump belt and reported TurboMax issues.

The answer may surprise Silverado shoppers. Based on the problems documented so far, the four-cylinder TurboMax may have the fewest serious reliability concerns of the four available engines.

2027 Ram 2500 Power Wagon Cummins: First Real-World Towing Test

The 2027 Ram 2500 Power Wagon is finally available with the high-output 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel. But how well does this off-road-focused heavy-duty truck tow a real camper?

I hooked the new Cummins Power Wagon to my approximately 7,000-pound, 30-foot Coleman travel trailer and took it through the hills of western Nebraska and Wyoming. The 430-horsepower Cummins produces 1,075 pound-feet of torque and is paired with Ram’s TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic transmission.

In this video, I show how the truck handles grades, downhill speed control and everyday highway towing. I also examine the Power Wagon’s off-road hardware, towing technology, passenger-side footwell, onboard power system, cabin technology and approximately $103,000 sticker price.

The entire 239.8-mile camping trip returned an indicated 9.9 mpg.

Is the Cummins engine the option the Ram Power Wagon has always needed, or has this heavy-duty off-roader simply become too expensive?

Five Wild Ram Trucks From Hennessey, Roush and Fox Factory

Hennessey, Roush Performance and Fox Factory brought five very different custom Ram trucks to Michigan, ranging from a 1,000-horsepower street truck to a lifted Ram 2500 riding on 37-inch tires.

The Hennessey Maximus Rumble Bee uses a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 producing more than 1,000 horsepower. Hennessey says its goal is to push this Ram street truck beyond 200 mph.

Roush Performance shows us its 2027 Ram 1500 Direct Connection package. Built on a Big Horn with the returning 5.7-liter HEMI V8, it is designed to fill the space between the Ram Rebel and Ram 1500 RHO.

Finally, Fox Factory walks us through three builds: a Ram 2500 Direct Connection HD with 37-inch tires, its interpretation of the Ram 1500 TRX and a lowered DC650 street truck producing approximately 650 horsepower.
